- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ3Chemical Profiling and Biological Activities of Methanol Extracts and Essential Oils From Ferulago Platycarpa Boiss. & Balansa (Endemic): Enzyme Inhibition, Antioxidant, and Antimicrobial Properties
Aygül, İmdat; Öz, Mehmet; Fidan, Muhammed Said; Baltacı, Cemalettin; Akmeşe, Osman; Sefalı, Abdurrahman
This study aimed to evaluate the phytochemical composition and biological activities of Ferulago platycarpa methanol extract (ME) and essential oil (EO). The EO was obtained via hydrodistillation and analyzed by GC-MS, revealing sesquiterpene hydrocarbons as the dominant class, with caryophyllene (65.8%) and α-pinene (9.65%) as the major constituents. The methanol extract was subjected to LC-MS/MS analysis, which identified eleven phenolic compounds, with chlorogenic acid as the most abundant. The extract showed significantly higher total phenolic (1196.22±11.64 mg GAE/100g) and antioxidant (1870.00±17.69 mg QEE/100g) contents compared to the ME. In vitro enzyme inhibition assays demonstrated that the methanol extract exhibited potent inhibitory activity against carbonic anhydrase II (CA-II, ICSO= 0.023 pg/mL), acetylcholinesterase (AChE, ICSO= 110 pg/mL), and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE, IC50= 390 pg/mL). In contrast, the EO showed higher inhibition against α-amylase (IC50= 5920±10.45 pg/mL) and BChE (IC50= 1.32±0.65 pg/mL), while its α-glucosidase showed no inhibition. Antioxidant assays indicated superior activity for the methanol extract compared to the EO. Furthermore, antimicrobial testing revealed that the EO demonstrated broader and more effective antimicrobial action, exhibiting lower MIC and MBC values against several bacterial and fungal strains. Collectively, these results highlight F. platycarpa as a valuable source of bioactive compounds with promising applications in antidiabetic, neuroprotective, antioxidant, and antimicrobial therapies.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ2Experimental and Modeling Study of Fluidity in Ductile Iron (GGG40)
Coşar, Mehmet; Şüküroğlu, Ebru Emine; Güngör, Kadir; Çolak, Murat
Ductile irons (spheroidal graphite cast irons, SGI) are widely used in automotive and energy systems due to their high strength, ductility, and excellent machinability. The casting quality of these alloys largely depends on the flow and filling behavior of the molten metal, namely its fluidity. In this study, the effects of pouring temperature, filling time, and metallurgical quality on the fluidity of GGG40 ductile iron were investigated through both experimental and numerical approaches. Experimental trials were conducted at pouring temperatures of 1350 °C, 1400 °C, and 1450 °C; metallurgical quality levels of 10%, 50%, and 90%; and filling times of 5 s and 10 s. The fluidity lengths were measured and statistically evaluated. The results revealed that increasing the pouring temperature and metallurgical quality significantly improved fluidity, while shorter filling times allowed the molten metal to travel longer distances before solidification. Modeling studies performed using a commercial casting simulation software showed strong correlation with the experimental data. Microstructural examinations indicated that higher pouring temperatures and improved metallurgical quality led to a more homogeneous distribution of graphite nodules and an increased ferrite fraction in the matrix. The findings provide valuable insights into the influence of process parameters on the fluidity behavior of ductile iron and offer critical design data for enhancing casting quality and productivity in industrial foundry applications.

Dombak, Kübra; Yayla, İbrahim Erdoğan; Makas, Samet; Çelik, Eyüp; Sahranç, Ümit; Kaya, Mehmet
Background: The purpose of this study is to examine the mediating roles of cognitive flexibility and sensation seeking in the relationship between basic psychological needs and problematic social media use. Furthermore, the moderating effect of gender on indirect effects has been examined. Method: The sample of the study consisted of 838 Turkish adolescents aged between 14 and 18 (46.2% female; Mean = 15.6, SD = 1.71). Participants completed the Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale, the Basic Psychological Needs Scale, the Cognitive Flexibility Scale, and the Brief Sensation Seeking Scale. Data were analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM) with the AMOS 26.0 program. Results: A significant relationship was found between basic psychological needs and problematic social media use (r = 0.43, p < 0.001). Both cognitive flexibility and sensation seeking partially mediated this relationship in girls (β = −0.23, p < 0.001), while fully mediating it in boys (β = 0.03, p = 0.675). Conclusions: The findings suggest that problematic social media use in adolescents may be associated with cognitive flexibility and increased sensation-seeking tendencies stemming from unmet psychological needs, and that gender plays an important role in this relationship.

- MakaleYalnız künye2026Scopus SJRQ3An exergoeconomic analysis of a wastewater treatment plant: investigation and optimization of sludge drying—a case study
Dagci, O.; Tozlu, A.; Berber, A.
The primary parameters in wastewater treatment plant applications are pollutant removal in compliance with standards and energy costs. This study conducts exergy, exergoeconomic, and optimization analyses on the Konya Wastewater Treatment Plant to enhance its energy efficiency. All assessments of the plant were based on actual operational data. Numerical calculations were executed using Engineering Equation Solver software. Exergoeconomic analyses were performed using the Specific Cost Method, while optimization calculations employed the Net Present Value approach. Thermodynamic calculations revealed that the exergy efficiency of the biogas engine was 30.8%, which increased to 39.8% when integrated into a cogeneration system. The overall exergy efficiency of the plant was calculated to be 35.3%, which rose to 58.6% when stabilized sludge was utilized as fuel. During the optimization phase, various drying systems were evaluated, and a hybrid greenhouse-solar-panel drying system was identified as the optimal model. The analyses indicated that the total cost was minimized at the maximum dryness value (70%), suggesting that the greenhouse-type drying system could achieve regional conditions. Compared to thermal and solar energy systems, hybrid systems have been observed to offer significant advantages in first-year costs. Optimization studies reveal that hybrid systems provide 41% greater cost savings in initial investment and operational expenses compared to thermal systems, and 29% greater savings compared to solar energy systems. Meeting the system's energy demand with fossil fuels results in annual emissions of 76,850 tons of CO₂ and 1500 tons of harmful pollutants, equivalent to removing 19,000 cars from traffic or preserving 7300 hectares of forest. Significant soil and ecosystem degradation also occurs. The use of solar energy substantially reduces these environmental impacts, improving air quality and conserving natural resources.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Corn Oil Oleogel With γ-Oryzanol/β-Sitosterol: Structural, Thermal, Textural, and Oxidative Characterization
Elbir Abca, Tuğba; Gençcelep, Hüseyin
In this study, a corn oil oleogel was prepared using γ-oryzanol and β-sitosterol to create a “healthier solid fat-like” structure aimed at reducing saturated and trans fat consumption. To prepare six different oleogels, a γ-oryzanol:β-sitosterol mixture (60:40) was added to corn oil at concentrations ranging from 6% to 15%. The samples were comprehensively evaluated in terms of oil-binding capacity and color; thermal behavior (including melting/crystallization properties); crystal structure; texture properties (hardness, stickiness, cohesion, and spreadability); molecular interactions and oxidative stability. The findings showed that all formulations had high oil binding capacity and that increasing the oleogelator concentration had a limited effect on oil binding. It has been determined that concentration plays an important role in the product's thermal resistance. Results show that as the oleogelator ratio increases, the structure becomes stronger and more durable; the melting behavior in thermal measurements shifts to higher temperatures. Crystal structure analyses support the formation of an oleogel network, while FTIR results indicate that the structure is formed predominantly through physical interactions. Consequently, it has been demonstrated that corn oil can acquire solid fat-like functional properties through this approach and offers a viable option for developing healthier fat formulations, particularly in spreadable products, margarine, and bakery fats.

This study systematically investigates the influence of scandium (Sc) additions at 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3 wt.% on the melt quality, microstructural characteristics, fluidity, and mechanical performance of A356 aluminum alloy under recycling-oriented casting conditions. The alloy charge consisted of 20% primary aluminum and 80% recycled scrap, while the Fe content was maintained at 0.2 wt.%. Melt treatment was performed by rotary degassing using a commercial flux. Melt quality was assessed using the Reduced Pressure Test (RPT) and bifilm index analysis, whereas casting performance was evaluated through an eight-channel fluidity test. Mechanical behavior was characterized by tensile and Brinell hardness testing, and microstructural and phase analyses were conducted using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). To complement the experimental investigation and provide a thermodynamic basis for interpretation, phase stability, solidification behavior, and phase-fraction evolution were examined using Thermo-Calc within the CALPHAD framework. By combining experimental characterization with computational thermodynamic analysis, this study elucidates the effect of Sc content on the processing–microstructure–property relationships of recycled A356 alloys and provides a systematic basis for evaluating Sc modification in high-recycled-content aluminum castings.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Scopus SJRQ2Economic complexity and energy vulnerability: Does ESG performance matter?
Ongan, Serdar; Kuziboev, Bekhzod; Makhmudov, Samariddin; Matyakubova, Aziza; Imamoglu, Ilyas Kays; Aydin, Rahman; Isik, Cem
Energy vulnerability is a critical concern for achieving energy security and meeting the SDGs. However, the role of economic complexity, which represents a country's production and export diversification, in energy vulnerability has been largely neglected in the literature. This study fills this gap by examining the impact of economic complexity on energy vulnerability for 69 developing countries over the period 2000-2019. For this purpose, MMQR and various instrumental variable (IV) estimation techniques (IV-Quantile, 2SLS, Lewbel, and Kiviet) were used. In addition, ESG indicators were included in the model as instrumental variables to address potential endogeneity issues between economic complexity and energy vulnerability. In doing so, the ESG indicators are also included in the model as instrumental variables to control for the endogeneity of economic complexity. Empirical findings show that economic complexity is associated with lower energy vulnerability across all quantiles. These results reveal that countries with diversified economic structures (higher economic complexity) may be more resilient to energy shocks. Therefore, developing countries should focus on structural reforms and improve their ESG performances to reduce energy vulnerability. In terms of control variables, financial development, digitalization, and human capital are associated with lower energy vulnerability, whereas increases in natural resource revenues are sometimes associated with lower vulnerability levels. This finding suggests that, in the context of energy vulnerability, the predictions of the resource curse theory may not be observed in every case.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1The Role of Women's Labor Law and Business Freedom in Achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in OECD Countries
Isik, Cem; Ongan, Serdar; Isik, Olcay; Aydin, Rahman; Imamoglu, Ilyas Kays
Business freedom (FR) and women's labor law (WLL) are critical in achieving the SDGs. This research aims to test the effect of these two factors on the SDGs while also considering economic growth and energy efficiency, framing the analysis within the legal, economic, and environmental dynamics of the SDGs holistically. Fourier-augmented PANIC, cross-sectional dependence tests, panel OLS, bootstrap quantile regression, and panel Granger causality tests are applied for this aim. The OLS and bootstrap quantile regression analyses indicate that while FR negatively affects SDG at lower quantiles, these effects turn positive in higher quantiles. This can mean that in countries with high institutional quality, the freedom to do business becomes a tool for supporting sustainable economic development. The WLL has positive effects on SDGs in all quantiles except the 20th quantile. This result clearly shows the decisive role of women's labor rights and legal protections in driving sustainable development. The Granger causality test also supports these results: FR and WLL have a positive Granger causality effect on the SDGs. Additionally, while GDP positively affects SDGs in all quantiles, renewable energy efficiency negatively affects SDGs at low quantiles and has a positive impact at higher quantiles.

Isik, Cem; Ongan, Serdar; Kuziboev, Bekhzod; Imamoglu, Ilyas Kays; Amin, Azka
This study investigates the impact of corporate social responsibility (CSR) on energy security (ENSEC) for 34 developed countries. It offers a new institutional perspective by linking CSR to ENSEC within the framework of sustainable development. MMQR, PLFC, and DID methods are used for this analysis. The MMQR results indicate that CSR enhances ENSEC across all percentiles (10%-90%) in both aggregate and disaggregated analyses, across the social, environmental, and governance dimensions. Moreover, the PLFC model's findings reveal that CSR promotes ENSEC in aggregate, regardless of income level. However, in the disaggregated estimates from the PLFC model, the social dimension of CSR has no effect on ENSEC, whereas the environmental and governance dimensions continue to have a positive effect on ENSEC. As for the impact of China's energy investment, only China's fossil energy investment ensures ENSEC. These findings provide important policy insights by empirically validating the role of CSR in addressing long-term energy risks.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Measuring Sustainability Under Uncertainty: Introducing Net ESG (N-ESG) Performance
Ongan, Serdar; Isik, Cem; Aydin, Rahman; Imamoglu, Ilyas Kays; Alvarado, Rafael; Ahmad, Munir
This study examines the reliability of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) scores in uncertain environments by introducing a new indicator, Net ESG (N-ESG), for the first time. This new index was calculated by subtracting a new ESG-based sustainability uncertainty index (ESGUI) from ESG scores. This study employed Pedroni (2004) and Westerlund (2007) tests, as well as the DOLS method, for 12 developed countries from 2002 to 2020. It analyzed the impact of economic, geopolitical, climate, and energy price-related uncertainties on both ESG and N-ESG through eight different models. Empirical findings indicate that a 1% change in CPU, GPR, EPU, and OPU indices increases ESG by 0.048, 0.355, 0.111, and 0.044 units, respectively, while the same rate of change decreases N-ESG by -6.501, -18.756, -8.972, and -8.193 units, respectively. These results can be interpreted as ESG scores may not fully reflect the true performance of companies in times of uncertainty, while N-ESG provides a more accurate representation of sustainability practices. These results suggest that policymakers should focus their sustainability policies not only on increasing ESG scores but also on preserving the true value of ESG by reducing uncertainty effects.

Introduction The global prevalence of stroke is increasing, highlighting the critical importance of effective post-stroke rehabilitation. Although boccia was originally designed for individuals with special needs, its potential benefits for stroke rehabilitation, particularly regarding task-related changes in ultrasound-observed muscle characteristics, have not been thoroughly investigated. Purpose This study aimed to examine the association of an 8-week boccia-based intervention with changes in upper extremity muscle thickness and grip strength in individuals with hemiparesis following stroke. Methods A total of 22 stroke survivors were randomly allocated to a boccia group (Boc, n = 12) or a control group (Ctrl, n = 10). While the control group received conventional physical therapy for eight weeks, the boccia group participated in both physical therapy and boccia-based intervention three times per week. Upper extremity muscle thickness and grip strength were assessed before and after the intervention. Results In the control group, a significant increase was observed only in the triceps brachii muscle thickness. In contrast, the boccia group demonstrated statistically detectable increases in forearm muscles (flexor digitorum profundus, flexor digitorum superficialis, pronator teres, and brachioradialis), triceps brachii muscle thickness, and grip strength. Conclusion Incorporating boccia-based intervention into the rehabilitation programs of individuals with hemiparesis after stroke may be associated with broader upper extremity muscle involvement and concurrent improvements in grip strength. These findings should be interpreted as exploratory and hypothesis-generating.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Does Climate Change Vulnerability Cause Energy Vulnerability in Sustainable Development?
Isik, Cem; Ongan, Serdar; Kuziboev, Bekhzod; Imamoglu, Ilyas Kays
Climate change and energy security are two fundamental vulnerability areas that interact with each other and hold critical importance for sustainable development goals. This research aims to fill the research gap by investigating the effects of climate change vulnerability (CCV) on the energy vulnerability (EV) relationship, which has not been adequately addressed in the literature, using a large panel dataset covering 74 countries and employing various methodological approaches (MMQR, PLFC, DID). The results of the MMQR model indicate that CCV increases EV across all quantiles. According to the results of the PLFC model, it is revealed that CCV on EV varies depending on the economic development level of countries. This effect is higher in low-income countries. The study also employs the DID model to examine the impact of China's foreign energy investments on countries' EV. According to this model, China's fossil-based energy investments, particularly those in the energy sector, increase the EV of countries. While economic development reduces EV across all quantiles, financial development reduces it in the lower and medium quantiles (25% and 50%); urbanization reduces it in the medium and higher quantiles (50% and 75%). All results show that the interaction between EV and CCV is a multidimensional and dynamic process. Accordingly, policymakers should develop integrated strategies that consider environment and energy policies, economic development, investment type, and environmental risks. Lastly, policymakers should consider energy investments from China not only as a tool for their country's economic growth, but also in terms of energy security and sustainability.

- MakaleYalnız künye2026Scopus SJRQ1Economic, Environmental, Social, and Governance (ECON - ESG) Strategies For Sustainable Development: Theory and a Holistic Evidence From Germany
Isik, Cem; Ongan, Serdar; Aydin, Rahman; Imamoglu, Ilyas kays
To achieve the SDGs, in addition to environmental (E), social (S), and governance (G) indicators, economic components should also be evaluated holistically. In this context, this research aims to test the time series characteristics of the indicators in the ECON-ESG structure, which is created by integrating the economic dimension into the ESG framework for Germany. For this purpose, linear and nonlinear structures, Fourier-based stationarity tests, and Bai-Perron multiple structural break tests were employed to examine the linear and nonlinear structures, stationarity cases, and structural breaks of various ESG and economic indicators (ECON). Findings show that many indicators are nonstationary, undergo structural changes over time, and exhibit nonlinear dynamics. The results indicate that sustainability policies should focus not only on indicator levels but also on the behavioral patterns and vulnerabilities of these indicators over time. In this regard, policymakers need to develop a holistic perspective on the economy and ESG, focusing on long-term and flexible policy designs. The study also offers important implications for how the ECON-ESG framework can serve as a model for both national and international markets, particularly in Germany, a developed and leading country in terms of sustainability. Therefore, the proposed ECON-ESG framework offers both theoretical and practical roadmaps for policymakers, firms, and investors to create long-term ESG strategies in support of the SDGs.

Background: Perioperative immunonutrition, including arginine and omega-3 fatty acids, has been proposed to support postoperative recovery by modulating immune function. Aim: To evaluate the effects of perioperative arginine and omega-3 supplementation on postoperative infectious complications, mortality, hospital length of stay, intensive care unit duration, and inflammatory markers in patients undergoing gastrointestinal cancer surgery. Methods: In this Pilot Open-Label randomized trial, 35 adult patients scheduled for elective gastrointestinal cancer surgery at Salah Azaiez Institute were randomly assigned to receive either perioperative immunonutrition (n = 18; three daily capsules of omega-3 and one sachet of Arginine+ for 7 days preoperatively and 7 days postoperatively) or standard care (n = 17). Primary endpoints were postoperative infectious complications and 1-month mortality. Secondary endpoints included hospital length of stay, ICU duration, and postoperative biochemical markers. Results: No statistically significant differences were observed between groups in 1-month mortality (p = 0.324), hospital length of stay (median 7 vs. 7 days, p = 0.392), or ICU duration (median 5 vs. 6 days, p = 0.601). Urinary tract infection (5.9% vs. 11.1%, p = 0.939) and wound infection rates (5.9% vs. 11.1%, p = 0.581) were comparable. Importantly, postoperative C-reactive protein and other inflammatory markers did not differ significantly between groups (CRP: 165 vs. 175 mg/L; intergroup p = 0.798). Conclusions: In this trial, perioperative immunonutrition with arginine and omega-3 fatty acids did not improve postoperative clinical outcomes or inflammatory markers in patients undergoing gastrointestinal cancer surgery. At the administered dose and within a small, heterogeneous cohort, immunonutrition did not provide additional benefit beyond standard care. Larger, adequately powered multicenter trials with optimized dosing are required to clarify its role in gastrointestinal oncology.

This study provides a comprehensive phytochemical, elemental, and spectroscopic characterization of 26 species belonging to the Asteraceae family, several of which are endemic to T & uuml;rkiye and traditionally used in folk medicine. Qualitative screening revealed the widespread presence of flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and carbohydrates, while alkaloids and anthracene heterosides were entirely absent in all taxa. Among the species analyzed, Cichorium intybus, Cyanus depressus, Achillea arabica, and Cirsium davisianum exhibited the richest phytochemical diversity, suggesting strong biological potential. Quantitative evaluation showed that Klasea serratuloides possessed the highest total phenolic content (99.49 mu g GAE/mg extract), followed by Artemisia scoparia and Inula sarana, indicating notable antioxidant potential. Elemental analysis by ICP-MS demonstrated significant interspecies variation, with Centaurea armena, Centaurea arvensis, and Cichorium intybus containing elevated levels of essential macro- and trace elements such as K, Mg, Ca, Zn, and Se, whereas Helichrysum plicatum and Scorzonera ulrichii showed high Co and Se contents. Conversely, trace levels of potentially toxic elements (e.g., Al, U) were detected in some taxa, emphasizing the need for careful evaluation of their pharmacological use. FTIR analysis confirmed the presence of functional groups characteristic of phenolics, flavonoids, tannins, coumarins, and cardioactive heterosides, as indicated by distinct O-H (3200-3600 cm-1), C-H (2850-2950 cm-1), and C=O (1700-1650 cm-1) stretching bands. The combined interpretation of phytochemical and FTIR data underscores the chemical diversity and functional group complexity of these plant extracts. Overall, the results highlight the nutritional and pharmacognostic significance of several Asteraceae species, supporting their potential application in antioxidant, nutraceutical, and therapeutic formulations.

Background: Tennis requires repeated high-intensity efforts with brief recovery periods, placing significant demands on cardiac autonomic regulation and neuromuscular performance. Ramadan intermittent fasting alters sleep, nutrition, and hydration patterns, potentially affecting match responses, particularly in adolescents. Methods: Sixteen male International Tennis Federation (ITF) junior players completed a within-subject repeated-measures study during mid-Ramadan and 15 days post-Ramadan. Each performed a standardized two-set outdoor match under both conditions. Heart rate variability (HRV), countermovement jump (CMJ), blood glucose, hydration markers, and rating of perceived exertion were assessed at baseline (T0), between sets (T1), and post-match (T2). Sleepiness, chronotype, fatigue, and recovery were evaluated via validated questionnaires. Results: Match play reduced lnRMSSD (p < 0.001, eta p(2 )= 0.775) and increased LF/HF (p < 0.001, eta p(2)= 0.234), indicating sympathetic dominance. During Ramadan, parasympathetic activity was lower (p < 0.001, eta p(2)= 0.269), and CMJ performance was reduced (p = 0.010, eta p(2)= 0.085). Blood glucose showed a Period & times; Set interaction (p = 0.020,eta p(2) = 0.114). Sleepiness, fatigue, and perceived recovery were significantly impaired (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Ramadan intermittent fasting reduces vagal activity and impairs neuromuscular performance in adolescent tennis players. HRV-guided training, optimized nutrition, and sleep management may help mitigate these effects.

Aim: Female athletic performance is shaped by the convergence of menstrual-cycle timing, circadian rhythms, fatigue, and ergogenic supplementation; yet no prior study has examined these factors simultaneously in a sport-specific setting. This study investigated the independent and combined effects of acute caffeine ingestion, calendar-based testing window, time of day, and match-induced fatigue on psychophysiological, cognitive, and physical performance in trained female volleyball players. Methods: Thirteen elite eumenorrheic female volleyball players (age: 24.23 +/- 4.06 years) completed a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover protocol comprising 12 sessions corresponding to all combinations of testing window (menstrual, follicular, luteal), supplementation (caffeine 6 mg & centerdot;kg(-1) vs. placebo), and time of day (08:00 h vs. 18:00 h). Assessments included the Epworth Sleepiness Scale, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, Spiegel questionnaire, Profile of Mood States, Hooper Index, Stroop task, Countermovement Jump (CMJ), Modified Agility T-Test (MAT), and Reactive Agility Test (RAT), administered before and after a one-hour simulated match. Results: Significant main effects of testing window, caffeine, time of day, and fatigue state were observed across all outcome domains (all p < 0.05). Caffeine reduced daytime sleepiness (F(1,12) = 23.84, p < 0.001, eta p(2) = 0.665), enhanced vigor (F(1,12) = 114.10, p < 0.001, eta p(2) = 0.905), and improved MAT performance (F(1,12) = 33.27, p < 0.001, eta p(2) = 0.735). The follicular window was associated with superior cognitive, neuromuscular, and mood-related outcomes relative to the menstrual and luteal windows. Exploratory higher-order interactions suggested condition-specific caffeine benefits for MAT, RAT, and CMJ, particularly in afternoon post-fatigue conditions; these patterns require replication in larger samples. Conclusions: Acute caffeine ingestion improved several psychophysiological, cognitive, and neuromuscular outcomes in trained female volleyball players, with effects that varied across calendar-based testing windows, time of day, and fatigue state. Individualized supplementation strategies incorporating cycle timing and circadian context remain investigational; prescriptive recommendations require replication in larger, hormonally verified samples before clinical or applied adoption.

Ongan, Serdar; Özdemir, Dilek; Imamoglu, Ilyas Kays; Isik, Cem
Conflicts in controlling or using natural resources, arising from geopolitical risks (GPR), which have become a new normal today, can damage natural ecosystems and threaten sustainable development. In this context, GPR can turn the positive impact of supporting independent variables on sustainable development (SD) into a negative one. This research investigates the moderating effects of GPR on SD through renewable energy consumption (REN) and economic complexity (EC) in 25 oil-producing countries with relatively higher oil-reserve-related risks between 2000 and 2021. The panel quantile regression analysis reveals. (i) While using REN individually improves SD in countries with high SD (in the 80th and 90th quantiles), this improving effect turns to a worsening effect due to its interaction with GPR, which shows the moderating impact of GPR. (ii): While EC individually improves SD across all quantiles, these improving effects persist in countries with low SD (in the 10th, 20th, 30th, and 40th quantiles) even when complexity interacts with GPR, showing that GPR has no moderating impact on SD. Therefore, policymakers should investigate why the interaction of REN with GPR worsens SD in highly sustainable countries and redevelop regulatory renewable energy policies accordingly.

Drawing on self-determination theory, this study examines how EPOCH well-being and resilience mediate the relationship between dissatisfaction with psychological needs and problematic digital gaming. Data were collected via questionnaires from 647 adolescents aged 13-19 (M = 15.80, SD = 1.10), 55.8% of whom were girls, using a convenience sampling method. Structural equation modeling was employed to test the proposed hypotheses. Results indicate a significant positive association between dissatisfaction with psychological needs and problematic digital gaming. Moreover, both EPOCH well-being and resilience were found to mediate this relationship. By highlighting the role of psychological resources in adolescence, this study makes novel theoretical and practical contributions to understanding the associations between psychological need dissatisfaction and problematic digital gaming. This is a cross-sectional study, which limits the generalization of the research results. The participants are adolescents attending middle schools in some rural areas of T & uuml;rkiye, which limits the generalizability of the research results to adolescents in other parts of T & uuml;rkiye and the world. Additionally, research data were obtained through self-report scales. This may lead adolescents to respond in line with their developmental perceptions of social desirability.

Field studies using conventional univariate methods fail to detect physiological rhythms (melatonin, cortisol, sleep architecture) that are consistently documented under laboratory-controlled conditions, suggesting that temporal factors operate on systemic organization rather than isolated metrics. Network analysis quantifies conditional dependencies among variables simultaneously, enabling the detection of organizational changes independent of mean-level shifts. As an exploratory proof-of-concept, this study examines whether network comparison methods detect temporal reorganization of psychophysiological integration invisible to conventional repeated-measures analysis in elite athletes; no confirmatory causal inference is drawn. Twelve elite male athletes completed psychophysiological assessments (mood states, subjective well-being, neurocognitive performance, postural control, intermittent endurance) at three lunar phases (New Moon, First Quarter, Full Moon) in a counterbalanced design. Conventional repeated-measures ANOVA detected no temporal effects on isolated variables (all F < 2.87, p > 0.05, eta(2)p < 0.21). Network comparison revealed marked organizational differences: New Moon versus Full Moon networks exhibited distinct architecture (M = 0.31, padj = 0.008) and connectivity (S = 8.42, padj = 0.029). Centrality systematically redistributed from capacity and well-being constructs (New Moon: vigour z = 1.82) to recovery markers (Full Moon: stress z = 2.13). Twelve connections differed significantly, including enhanced stress-confusion coupling (Delta r = +0.39, p = 0.003). This proof-of-concept demonstrates that temporal measurements can exhibit systemic reorganization despite stable component means, resolving apparent contradictions between laboratory-detected physiological rhythms and field-based null findings. Temporal control measurements and multi-cycle replication are required to definitively attribute observed reorganization to lunar periodicity rather than generic temporal variation.
