Kaya, Yasemin; İspirli, Hümeyra; Bozkurt, Fatih; Sağdıç, Osman; Şengül, Mustafa; Dertli, Enes

BACKGROUND: One of the major contributors to postharvest losses in tomatoes is the development of infectious mold diseases. In this study, four distinct biodegradable film formulations were developed incorporating postbiotics derived from Lactiplantibacillus plantarum Y48 and the polysaccharide alternan. The formulations included alternan, sodium alginate and glycerol (AAG), alternan, postbiotic, sodium alginate and glycerol (APAG), postbiotic, sodium alginate and glycerol (PAG), and sodium alginate and glycerol (AG) as a control. The films were characterized in terms of their physical, mechanical, thermal, and morphological properties. To assess antifungal efficacy, tomatoes artificially inoculated with Alternaria alternata were coated with each film and stored at ambient temperature for 8 days. RESULTS: The incorporation of alternan and postbiotics enhanced both the mechanical strength and thermal stability of the films. Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) analysis confirmed the successful integration of the bioactive components into the polymer matrix. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) imaging revealed that postbiotic addition contributed to a rougher and more rigid surface morphology, while alternan improved the structural cohesion of the films. All film formulations exhibited significant inhibitory effects against A. alternata, with the PAG formulation demonstrating the most pronounced antifungal activity. CONCLUSION: These results suggest that the PAG film, enriched with postbiotics, represents a promising biocontrol strategy for mitigating fungal spoilage in tomatoes. In conclusion, this study underscores the potential of combining postbiotics and alternan for the development of active, biodegradable edible films with antifungal functionality for postharvest preservation.

Cuce, Pinar Mert; Guclu, Tamer; Cuce, Erdem; Bouabidi, Abdallah; El Hadi Attia, Mohammed

This study experimentally investigates the thermal and electrical performance, economic feasibility, and environmental impacts of a hybrid energy system integrated with a parabolic trough collector (PTC) and thermoelectric generator (TEG). In the established system, solar energy is converted into electrical and thermal energy using a steam turbine and TEG. Experimental data indicate that the system operates with an average efficiency of 71.44%, which varies depending on the intensity of solar radiation. The overall energy efficiency of the system is calculated as 14.51%. In the economic analysis, the payback period of the designed system is approximately 5.4 years, while the levelised cost of energy production (LCOE) is calculated to be 0.075 USD kWh−1. The environmental assessment indicates that the system can prevent 356.18 kg of CO2 emissions annually and save approximately 1499.72 L of water. These findings demonstrate that hybrid systems offer an economically and environmentally sustainable and efficient alternative to energy production.

Investigation of the Effects of Low-Temperature Thermal Treatment Applied to Graphite in Spent Lithium-Ion Anode Recycling

    Kara, Adem; Temur, Hakan

As the use of lithium-ion batteries (LIB) increases rapidly, recovery of graphite, the main component of the anode, from spent batteries has become important from environmental and economic perspectives. In this study, an acid leaching step followed by thermal treatment under partial atmosphere at a relatively low calcination temperature was investigated to recover graphite from spent lithium-ion batteries. The molecular and chemical structures of the recovered graphite in all spent anode samples were investigated using FTIR, ICP-MS, XRD, SEM–EDX and TEM–EDX. It was observed that organic impurities and volatile components were largely removed after acid leaching and thermal treatment at 750 °C. In addition, it was observed that graphite layers were rearranged and the distance between the layers decreased under the effect of thermal treatment. Partial atmosphere calcination at 750 °C can be considered as a feasible method for graphite recovery, offering energy efficiency and scalability. However, in an efficient calcination, it is necessary to maintain controlled oxygen levels to prevent excessive graphite loss and to perform preliminary acid leaching to reduce metal impurities. In order to best recycle graphite in waste lithium-ion anode recovery, a balance must be achieved between temperature, energy efficiency and material recovery. Considering this balance, a calcination temperature of 750 °C appears to be preferable for recycling.

Enhanced Absorption-Dominant EMI Shielding Performance of Pyramidal Cementitious Composites Incorporating Recycled Plastics and Magnetite Minerals for 5G Applications

Cakir, Mehmet; Engin, Mustafa Alptekin; Camuzcuoglu, Murat

In this study, waste polypropylene (PP) and magnetite (Fe3O4) mineral-reinforced cement-based pyramidal composite structures were designed, manufactured, and experimentally characterized to reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI) problems in the 3.3–4.9 GHz frequency band for 5G communication systems. Unlike traditional planar concrete surfaces, the aim was to minimize surface reflections and obtain an absorption-dominant shielding mechanism by providing gradient impedance matching through the pyramidal geometry. Although the use of carbon-based nanomaterials is common in the current literature, their high cost and corrosion risks limit their large-scale applications. This study involves the evaluation of waste polypropylene disposal and self-enriching magnetite mineral together. Theoretical analyses were supported by the Lichtenecker Logarithmic Mixing Rule and the Maxwell–Garnett model, and seven different mixing scenarios (S1–S7) were measured using the free-space method with a Libre vector network analyzer. Experimental results showed that the pure concrete sample exhibited predominantly reflective behaviour, with shielding performance improving significantly as the filler ratio increased. The S4 sample, containing 15% PP and 10% magnetite, offered broadband and balanced absorption performance, while the S7 sample, containing 25% PP and 25% magnetite, provided the highest shielding effectiveness with reflection below −10 dB across the entire band and transmission loss reaching −65 dB.

Microwave-Assisted Extraction of Pectin from Pickled Cabbage Waste: Process Optimisation, Characterisation and Application in Low-Sugar Jam

    Cebeci Aydın, Fatma; Erten, Tayyibe

This study optimised pectin extraction from pickled cabbage waste using microwave-assisted extraction (MAE), characterised the extracted pectin, and explored its potential for low-sugar jam production. The Box–Behnken design concluded that the optimal conditions are 539 W (microwave power), 116 s (time), and pH 1.5, yielding a pectin yield of 22.53 ± 2.63%. The physicochemical analysis revealed that the microwave-extracted pectin (MEP) was low methoxyl and had a high molecular weight (1.20 ± 0.004 MDa). It was composed of galacturonic acid, arabinose, rhamnose, xylose and glucose. FTIR, 1H NMR and SEM results also confirmed structural characteristics of MEP. MEP was confirmed to have remarkable technological properties, including an emulsion activity of 53.43 ± 2.19% and good stability over 30 days at 4 °C and 24 °C. Moreover, it has an oil-holding capacity of 1.18 ± 0.51 g oil/g pectin and an elevated water-holding capacity (9.36 ± 3.25 g water/g pectin). The application of MEP as a stabiliser in low-sugar jam enhanced viscoelastic characteristics of jam, like apple pectin, and G′ > G″ confirmed the improved shelf-life stability at 25 °C. This study emphasised that microwave-assisted extraction can be a sustainable, time- and energy-saving method for the valorisation of pickled cabbage waste, and highlighted the effect of MEP on the characteristics of low-sugar jam.

Analysis of thermal energy storage in batch processes using phase change materials

Kaya, Nur Efşan; Ceviz, Mehmet Akif; Afshari, Faraz; Mandev, Emre; Köksal, Hüseyin

Batch reactors are widely utilized in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and food industries due to their simplicity, ease of operation, and maintenance. However, efficient energy management remains a key challenge, especially for systems operating under intermittent conditions. While phase-change materials (PCMs) offer potential for improving energy efficiency by storing and reusing waste heat, integrating heat storage within reactors can compromise their volume and design. This study introduces a novel approach by designing and experimentally testing a PCM heat battery positioned outside the reactor to reduce energy consumption cost in batch processes. By focusing on peak load shifting, the PCM heat battery stores thermal energy during off-peak periods, reducing operational costs and enhancing energy efficiency. The results indicate that energy operating costs can be significantly reduced with a PCM heat battery. Specifically, utilizing the PCM battery under a three-time tariff allows for the efficient use of energy stored at night, reducing the energy cost per batch process by approximately 8%, from 1.72 TL ($0.041) to 1.59 TL ($0.037) for facilities starting operations at 08:00. Furthermore, the findings suggest potential applications in systems like solar energy and highlight the benefits of peak load shifting, offering a sustainable and cost-effective solution for energy management in batch processing.

Multidimensional characterization of graphite anode degradation in used lithium-ion batteries under real-life conditions

    Temur, Hakan; Kara, Adem

The degradation of graphite anodes in lithium-ion batteries remains a critical barrier to extending cycle life and enabling efficient recycling. This study employs a multi-technique approach combining XRD, FTIR, SEM-EDS, ICP-MS, and XPS to investigate degradation mechanisms in graphite anodes recovered from commercial spent mobile phone batteries. While unused reference anodes show no significant degradation, spent anodes exhibit surface cracks, porous networks, heterogeneous SEI growth, and pronounced oxygen/fluorine accumulation. FTIR and XRD confirm increased LiF and Li2CO3 formation, indicating electrolyte decomposition and structural breakdown. ICP-MS reveals transition metal migration (Co, Ni, Mn) and current collector corrosion (Cu, Al), which correlate with degradation severity. Surface-sensitive XPS analysis further resolves a progressive degradation pathway: from limited SEI formation in low-degradation samples, through concurrent corrosion and metal crossover in medium-degradation samples, to extensive LiF-rich SEI accumulation in the most degraded samples. These findings are consistent with a self-accelerating chain-reaction mechanism wherein electrolyte decomposition, metal migration, and corrosion synergistically accelerate capacity fade. This study proposes a mechanistic framework for understanding heterogeneous degradation in real-world spent batteries and offers a practical, multi-technique diagnostic tool for recycling and second-life applications.

Valorization of pickled cabbage waste as a novel pectin source: Optimization, characterization

    Erten, Tayyibe; Cebeci Aydın, Fatma

Recovery of food ingredients from agro-industrial by-products has become increasingly essential for sustainable food production through energy saving and lessening the carbon footprint. Pickled white cabbage production generates high amounts of pickled cabbage waste that contain valuable goods such as pectin. This study aimed to evaluate the valorization of pectin from pickled cabbage waste by comparing the conventional (CE) and ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE). The UAE provided 2.14 times higher pectin yield (30.32%) compared to CE (14.14%) while reducing energy consumption and carbon dioxide emission (~ 7 times lower). Pectins obtained from conventional extraction (CEP) and ultrasound-assisted extraction (UEP) had high amounts of galacturonic acid (85.06 ± 1.76%, 87.95 ± 6.99%, respectively) and low degree of esterification (17.08 ± 1.14%, 14.71 ± 0.00%). The monosaccharide compositions of pectin were similar for CEP and UEP, comprising of galacturonic acid, glucose, arabinose, rhamnose and xylose. FT-IR, NMR and SEM confirmed the structural characteristics of pectins, and the effect of ultrasonication. Furthermore, UEP presented superior technological characteristics including water holding capacity (5.29 ± 0.38 g water/g pectin), oil holding capacity (1.58 ± 0.11 g oil/g pectin), emulsion activity (43.61 ± 1.12%) and emulsion stability compared to CEP. These findings show that pickled cabbage waste is a valuable source of low-methoxyl pectins and UAE is a promising extraction method for obtaining high amount of pectin along with reduced processing time and energy consumption. The UAE method using of citric acid instead of hazardous acids also offers environment-friendly method for pectin extraction.

Microwave-assisted extraction of pectin from persimmon: physicochemical properties, structural characterization and greenness assessment

Yılmaz, Özlem; Kutlu, Naciye; Kamiloğlu, Aybike; Elbir Abca, Tuğba

In this study, the microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) of pectin from persimmon was optimized using a Box-Behnken experimental design, with pH, extraction time, and liquid-to-solid ratio as independent variables. The optimization results obtained through response surface methodology indicated optimum conditions of pH 1.78, extraction time of 8 min, and a liquid-to-solid ratio of 125 mL/g, corresponding to a predicted pectin yield of 4.28%. In the validation experiment, the actual pectin yield was determined to be 3.79 ± 0.04%, confirming a good agreement with the model predictions. The degree of esterification, methoxyl content, galacturonic acid and ash contents, water- and oil-holding capacities, antioxidant activity, rheological behavior, and structural properties (FT-IR, DSC, and 1H NMR) of the samples obtained under optimal MAE and conventional extraction conditions were compared. Based on the degree of esterification, both samples were classified as high-methoxyl, with galacturonic acid contents of 41% and 42% for the MAE and conventionally extracted samples, respectively; both values were below the ≥ 65% level specified for commercial food-grade pectin. The ash content was higher in the MAE sample (7.22%) than in the conventionally extracted sample (1.56%). MAE resulted in a pectin-rich complex with a relatively low galacturonic acid content and higher antioxidant activity than the conventionally extracted sample. Furthermore, the MAE sample exhibited higher water-holding capacity but lower oil-binding capacity than the conventionally extracted sample. Rheological analysis showed that the MAE sample exhibited higher apparent viscosity and shear stress than the conventionally extracted sample. FT-IR analysis revealed more pronounced absorption bands in the MAE sample, suggesting structural differences. DSC analysis revealed differences in the thermal behavior of the MAE and conventionally extracted samples. Additionally, 1H NMR analysis supported the presence of characteristic pectic structural features in both samples. The greenness assessment of the method was assessed using the Greenness Evaluation Metric for Analytical Methods (GEMAM), which yielded an overall score of 7.482, indicating a high level of environmental acceptability. Overall, MAE can be considered an efficient and sustainable approach for obtaining a pectin-rich complex with antioxidant activity from persimmon.

Optimization of Antioxidant Recovery from Deep Eutectic Solvent Phase via Back-Extraction Using Taguchi Method

Kamiloğlu, Aybike; Elbir Abca, Tuğba; Kutlu, Naciye

This study investigates the use of deep eutectic solvents (DESs) via ethyl acetate-mediated liquid–liquid extraction and the optimization of the process using the Taguchi method for the recovery of antioxidant compounds from tea industry waste. In the study, choline chloride was used as a hydrogen bond acceptor; lactic acid, glycerol, and ethanol were used as hydrogen bond donors; and different ratios of water (10–30%) were added to reduce the viscosity of the DESs. Ultrasound-assisted extraction results showed that lactic acid-based DESs provided the highest total phenolic content and antioxidant activity due to their ability to break down plant cell walls. However, in the recovery phase carried out with ethyl acetate, it was determined that ethanol-based DESs (ChCl:EtOH) were more effective in transferring antioxidants to the organic phase due to their looser molecular structure. Optimization using the Taguchi L9 orthogonal array revealed the following results: ChCl:EtOH solvent, 2:1 ethyl acetate/extract ratio, 20% water ratio, and 30-min shaking period were determined as the optimal conditions. Under these conditions, the model predicted a yield of 93.34%, and experimental validation revealed a recovery yield of 85.70 ± 1.13%. The results demonstrate that this developed green extraction method offers a sustainable alternative for converting tea waste into high value-added functional components.

Gerçek, Yusuf Can; Baştürk, Fatma Nur; Gıdık, Betül; Abca, Tuğba Elbir; Yurtvermez, Bayram; Fuente-Ballesteros, Adrián; Kutlu, Naciye; Ecem Bayram, Nesrin

Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) have emerged as green alternatives to conventional solvents for extracting bioactive compounds from plants. This study evaluated nine choline chloride–based DESs for recovering antioxidant polyphenols from four parts of the tea plant (Camellia sinensis): seed, bud, leaf, and flower. Total phenolic content, antioxidant activity, and individual polyphenolic profiles were determined, and the greenness of the sample preparation was assessed using AGREEprep. The highest total phenolic content (53.28 mg GAE/g) and antioxidant activity (141.17 mg TE/g) were obtained from leaves using ChCl:formic acid, outperforming ethanol and methanol. Leaves also exhibited the highest total quantified polyphenolic content (up to 95,813 mg/kg DW, corresponding to the sum of the quantified polyphenols), with epicatechin gallate and gallocatechin + epigallocatechin being the major contributors. Flowers and buds showed notable polyphenolic diversity, while seeds contained the lowest levels. Statistical analysis confirmed clear clustering patterns according to plant part and solvent type. AGREEprep evaluation yielded scores up to 0.54, highlighting the environmental benefits of DES-based extraction. We demonstrated that tea leaves were the richest source of bioactive polyphenols, and selected DESs, particularly formic acid–based and ethylene glycol–based, exhibited superior efficiency and sustainability compared to conventional solvents. These findings support the wider adoption of DESs for green, high-yield extraction of pharmacologically important compounds from tea and other medicinal plants.

Upcycling marble waste into construction materials and heavy metal adsorbents via hot-pressed geopolymerization technique

Öksüzer, Nurullah; Uslu, Emin; Gökçe, H. Süleyman

This study presents a sustainable approach to utilizing marble dust waste by producing bifunctional metakaolin-based geopolymers via a synchronized hot-pressing technique. In this study, the environmental footprint was minimized by designing mixtures in which marble waste constituted 50% of the total volume. Three stoichiometric series were investigated by varying the activator modulus (SiO2/Na2O = 3 and 4) and the Si/Al ratio (2 and 3) under two curing temperatures (150 and 300 °C) and three compaction stresses (5, 25, and 50 MPa). Thus, a high-volume industrial byproduct was transformed into a functional component. In this context, it investigated the transformation of industrial products into next-generation materials by using them to produce cementless composite geopolymers for civil engineering and to adsorb heavy metal (Cu2+). As a result of the research, an early compressive strength of 58 MPa was obtained through heat treatment and pressing applied at 300 °C and 50 MPa. This optimum strength was achieved in the SiO2/Na2O = 3, Si/Al = 3 series, whereas excess silica (SiO2/Na2O = 4) and excess aluminum (Si/Al = 2) limited the strength to 16.8 and 35.2 MPa, respectively. Microstructural analyses (SEM/EDS and FT-IR) revealed that marble dust was used as a filler material in the microstructure to produce an N-A-S-H-containing matrix. The produced materials were then ground after their service life and used to purify water containing heavy metals. More than 99.75% of Cu2+ was removed through ion exchange between copper ions used as heavy metals. The residual Cu2+ concentration fell below 0.25 mg/L from an initial concentration of 100 mg/L, and the released Na+-to-adsorbed Cu2+ molar ratio of approximately 1.8–2.3 confirmed an ion-exchange-dominated uptake mechanism. This structural and environmental impact demonstrates that marble waste, which is otherwise discarded as waste, is considered inert, offering an alternative model for the circular economy and environmental applications.

Tayfur, Bilal; Turhal, Uğur; Tozlu, Alperen

The efficient recovery of waste heat from biogas power plants via Organic Rankine Cycles (ORC) is essential for sustainable energy but requires satisfying conflicting thermodynamic and economic objectives. This study addresses the need for robust optimization strategies by evaluating nine recent metaheuristic algorithms to identify the most effective methods for maximizing net power while minimizing system costs. A multi-objective thermoeconomic model utilizing the specific exergy costing method was developed for a toluene-based ORC and optimized using algorithms including Dung Beetle, Snake, and NSGA-II. The optimization reduced the unit electricity cost by 9.1% (from $0.088/kWh to $0.080/kWh), with the Dung Beetle algorithm exhibiting superior convergence (Hypervolume 25.90) and the Snake algorithm demonstrating the best solution uniformity (Spread 1.54) with computational speed (0.084 s). These findings underscore that selecting algorithms based on specific exploration-exploitation characteristics is critical for achieving cost-effective and thermodynamically efficient power generation designs.

Deep Eutectic Solvents as Sustainable Media for Efficient Recovery of Phenolics From Black (Lycium ruthenicum Murr.) and Red (Lycium barbarum Lam.) Goji Berries: Optimization and Functional Evaluation

Gerçek, Yusuf Can; Kutlu, Naciye; Çelik, Saffet; Bayram, Sinan; Çevik, Berke; Baştürk, Fatma Nur; Özmener, Bahar; Ecem Bayram, Nesrin

Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) have been frequently preferred over the past decade as alternatives to conventional solvents for the extraction of bioactive compounds from natural products. Meanwhile, black and red goji berries are widely consumed as functional foods due to their many functional properties reported in the literature. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of different DESs in the extraction of individual phenolic compounds from goji berry (Lycium barbarum and L. ruthenicum) fruits, to determine the most suitable DES, and to optimize the extraction conditions. The DES that provided the highest yield in the extraction of individual phenolic compounds from L. barbarum was determined to be proline:citric acid (DES6 – a total of approximately 33,545 µg/kg), while for L. ruthenicum it was choline chloride:acetic acid (DES3 – a total of approximately 37,496 µg/kg). Rutin was the predominant phenolic compound in both species. DESs provided a higher phenolic yield compared to ethanol and water. In addition, L. ruthenicum exhibited higher total phenolics, flavonoids, proanthocyanidins, and antioxidant activity compared to L. barbarum. These findings reveal that DESs are a green, efficient, and sustainable alternative for the extraction of phenolic compounds from goji berries.

Environmental and economic analysis of industrial waste heat recovery with hybrid heat pump application

    Kazici, Halil İbrahim; Tozlu, Alperen

Today, increasing energy demands and environmental concerns have made energy efficiency a necessity from both economic and ecological perspectives. High energy consumption in industrial facilities increases costs and raises CO2 emissions. Therefore, waste heat recovery and the use of renewable energy are among the fundamental goals of sustainable production. Energy efficiency is important not only for reducing consumption but also for lowering greenhouse gas emissions, protecting the environment, and strengthening the economics of the business. In this context, heat pump technologies, which extract energy from low-temperature sources and make it reusable, stand out as effective, environmentally friendly, and efficient systems in both heating and cooling applications. In this study, waste heat from a cooling tower generated during the production process in an industrial facility was recovered through a water-source heat pump and integrated into the facility's heating system. The heat pump increased the heat energy by using low-temperature water and reused it in the process. During periods when the waste heat was insufficient, the system was supported by natural gas boilers, thus creating a hybrid operating model between the heat pump and the boiler. As a result of the implementation, natural gas consumption and electricity usage were significantly reduced, leading to lower energy costs and a substantial decrease in CO2 emissions, thereby providing notable environmental benefits. The findings indicate that the proposed system achieves an annual natural gas saving of 6,788,251 kWh and a net financial gain of 5,703,864 TL. Additionally, the payback period of the investment is calculated as 2.41 years, demonstrating the economic feasibility of the system. Overall, this case study highlights that the widespread adoption of hybrid heat pump systems in the industrial sector can make significant contributions to Türkiye’s energy transition and carbon emission goals.

An exergoeconomic analysis of a wastewater treatment plant: investigation and optimization of sludge drying—a case study

    Dagci, O.; Tozlu, A.; Berber, A.

The primary parameters in wastewater treatment plant applications are pollutant removal in compliance with standards and energy costs. This study conducts exergy, exergoeconomic, and optimization analyses on the Konya Wastewater Treatment Plant to enhance its energy efficiency. All assessments of the plant were based on actual operational data. Numerical calculations were executed using Engineering Equation Solver software. Exergoeconomic analyses were performed using the Specific Cost Method, while optimization calculations employed the Net Present Value approach. Thermodynamic calculations revealed that the exergy efficiency of the biogas engine was 30.8%, which increased to 39.8% when integrated into a cogeneration system. The overall exergy efficiency of the plant was calculated to be 35.3%, which rose to 58.6% when stabilized sludge was utilized as fuel. During the optimization phase, various drying systems were evaluated, and a hybrid greenhouse-solar-panel drying system was identified as the optimal model. The analyses indicated that the total cost was minimized at the maximum dryness value (70%), suggesting that the greenhouse-type drying system could achieve regional conditions. Compared to thermal and solar energy systems, hybrid systems have been observed to offer significant advantages in first-year costs. Optimization studies reveal that hybrid systems provide 41% greater cost savings in initial investment and operational expenses compared to thermal systems, and 29% greater savings compared to solar energy systems. Meeting the system's energy demand with fossil fuels results in annual emissions of 76,850 tons of CO₂ and 1500 tons of harmful pollutants, equivalent to removing 19,000 cars from traffic or preserving 7300 hectares of forest. Significant soil and ecosystem degradation also occurs. The use of solar energy substantially reduces these environmental impacts, improving air quality and conserving natural resources.

Kutsal, Ümit; Barutçuoğlu, Burak; Sağnak, Yiğit; Toker, Abidin; Çatar, Recep; Çolak, Murat

This study systematically investigates the influence of scandium (Sc) additions at 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3 wt.% on the melt quality, microstructural characteristics, fluidity, and mechanical performance of A356 aluminum alloy under recycling-oriented casting conditions. The alloy charge consisted of 20% primary aluminum and 80% recycled scrap, while the Fe content was maintained at 0.2 wt.%. Melt treatment was performed by rotary degassing using a commercial flux. Melt quality was assessed using the Reduced Pressure Test (RPT) and bifilm index analysis, whereas casting performance was evaluated through an eight-channel fluidity test. Mechanical behavior was characterized by tensile and Brinell hardness testing, and microstructural and phase analyses were conducted using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). To complement the experimental investigation and provide a thermodynamic basis for interpretation, phase stability, solidification behavior, and phase-fraction evolution were examined using Thermo-Calc within the CALPHAD framework. By combining experimental characterization with computational thermodynamic analysis, this study elucidates the effect of Sc content on the processing–microstructure–property relationships of recycled A356 alloys and provides a systematic basis for evaluating Sc modification in high-recycled-content aluminum castings.

Farmers as a consumers: utaut with dual moderated mediation model

    Yilmazel, Sefa Emre

The purpose of the study is to determine the factors that affect the adoption and implementation of clean and energy efficient practices by farmers. For this reason, in line with the model developed within the scope of UTAUT, it was investigated whether two moderator variables (environmental concern, financial benefits) make a difference for clean and energy practices. Data were collected from 400 participants for clean production and 400 participants for energy-efficient production. The data obtained were analyzed with Process Macro model 4 and model 21 developed by Hayes. As a result, it was seen that the UTAUT variables had a significant effect on farmers' adoption intention in both data. In addition, the moderating effect of adoption intention on the relationship between UTAUT variables and usage behavior was proven. Furthermore, the effect of both moderator variables in the study was revealed. While environmental concern has a moderating effect between performance expectancy, effort expectancy and facilitating conditions and adoption behavior in the clean production. Financial benefits has a significant moderating effect between adoption intention and usage behavior for all four of the UTAUT variables in the energy efficient production.
