- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ2Recitation Mode Is Associated With Salivary CREB and Cortisol Responses during Qur'anic Recitation
Okur, Süheyb; Topyay, Yusuf; Bayraktar, Bülent
Background: Spiritual practices such as Qur'anic recitation are commonly associated with psychological and physiological regulation; however, their salivary biomarker correlates remain insufficiently understood. This exploratory study examined whether different modes of Qur'anic recitation were associated with changes in salivary cAMP response element-binding protein (CREB), a biomarker related to plasticity-associated pathways, and cortisol, a marker of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis activity. Methods: The sample comprised three nonrandomized, criterion-defined conditions: Passive Control (n = 20; participants unable to read Qur'anic Arabic), Sight-Reading (n = 30), and Memorized Recitation (n = 30). Saliva samples were collected immediately before and after the experimental task or passive rest period. Salivary CREB and cortisol concentrations were quantified using ELISA. Post-task CREB levels were analyzed using ANCOVA with baseline CREB as a covariate. Cortisol responses were analyzed using change scores, Welch's ANOVA, and an additional robust factorial model with HC3 heteroscedasticity-consistent standard errors to evaluate exploratory Condition × Gender patterns. Results: After controlling for baseline CREB levels, experimental condition had a significant effect on post-task salivary CREB, F(2, 76) = 8.16, p < 0.001, η2p = 0.18. Memorized recitation showed higher adjusted post-task CREB levels than both sight-reading and passive control conditions. Cortisol change scores also differed significantly across conditions, Welch's F(2, 40.02) = 30.76, p < 0.001. Both active recitation conditions were associated with cortisol reduction relative to passive rest, with no significant difference between sight-reading and memorized recitation. Although descriptive data suggested a possible gender-related divergence in the memorized recitation condition, the Condition × Gender interaction did not remain statistically significant under robust estimation and was therefore interpreted as exploratory. Conclusion: These preliminary findings suggest that Qur'anic recitation modes are associated with distinct salivary biomarker patterns. Memorized recitation was linked to higher adjusted salivary CREB levels, whereas both active recitation modes were associated with cortisol attenuation relative to passive rest. Because the present design did not include active non-Qur'anic vocalization or neutral reading control conditions, the specificity of these effects to Qur'anic content cannot be determined. Future studies should include active control conditions and larger gender-stratified samples to clarify the mechanisms underlying these biomarker responses.

Aksoy, Dilara Arzugul
This paper aims to provide a comprehensive overview of research on open education through bibliometric analysis. English-language articles published between 1955 and 2024 in the Scopus and Web of Science databases were selected for analysis. A variety of analytical techniques were employed, including descriptive analysis, co-authorship analysis, co-occurrence analysis, and citation analysis. The findings of this study indicated that research on open education steadily increased until 2020, after which it began to decline. The study also revealed that open education research is conducted globally, though it is predominantly concentrated in countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom. Furthermore, the majority of research in open education focuses on massive open online courses, followed by open educational resources. The International Review of Research in Open and Distributed Learning was identified as the journal with the highest number of open education articles across both databases. The research findings discussed in detail, and suggestions for future research are provided. This study offers an overview of open education research, assesses the current state of the field, and provides guidance for future investigations.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ3Mindfulness-Acceptance-Commitment Intervention Effects on Athletic Performance, Passion, and Psychological Well-being in Competitive Tennis Players: A Randomized Controlled Trial
Abidi, Wafa; Fall, Estelle; Chalghaf, Nasr; Ceylan, Halil İbrahim; Muntean, Raul Ioan; Dergaa, Ismail; Candar, Reyhan; Özdemir, Kübra; Çingöz, Yunus Emre; Man, Cristina Maria
While traditional psychological skills training focuses on cognitive control, mindfulness-based approaches emphasize acceptance and present-moment awareness. The Mindfulness-Acceptance-Commitment (MAC) protocol shows promise for enhancing athletic performance; however, limited research has examined its effects on passion and well-being in tennis players. Forty-four competitive male tennis players (M age = 18.1 ± 1.1 years) were randomly assigned to either a MAC intervention group (n = 22) or a passive control group (n = 22). The MAC protocol consisted of seven weekly 45-minute sessions focusing on mindfulness, acceptance, and values-driven behavior. Primary outcomes included tennis serve performance assessed by certified coaches using a standardized 16-serve protocol. Secondary outcomes included mindfulness skills (Mindful Attention Awareness Scale), subjective well-being (Positive and Negative Affect Schedule, Satisfaction with Life Scale), harmonious passion, and obsessive passion (Passion Scale). Intention-to-treat analyses with 44 participants revealed significant improvements in the MAC group compared to controls. Tennis serve performance improved significantly in the MAC group (pre: 13.18 ± 2.19 to post: 15.09 ± 2.45, t(21) = 7.54, p < .001, d = 0.87) but not in the control group (pre: 13.05 ± 2.33 to post: 12.86 ± 2.41, t(21) = 0.78, p = .442, d = 0.08), with a significant between-group difference at post-test (t(42) = 3.71, p = .001, d = 1.12). Mindfulness skills improved substantially in the MAC group (pre: 39.00 ± 4.18 to post: 52.73 ± 3.65, t(21) = 13.76, p < .001, d = 3.28) compared to controls (pre: 43.55 ± 4.75 to post: 44.32 ± 4.12, t(21) = 1.31, p = .203, d = 0.16), with a significant between-group difference (t(42) = 7.16, p < .001, d = 2.16). Harmonious passion increased significantly in the MAC group (pre: 17.27 ± 2.64 to post: 24.05 ± 4.16, t(21) = 6.15, p < .001, d = 2.57) while remaining stable in controls (pre: 17.86 ± 3.75 to post: 16.91 ± 3.61, t(21) = 1.65, p = .114, d = 0.25), with a significant between-group difference (t(42) = 6.40, p < .001, d = 1.93). Obsessive passion decreased in the MAC group (pre: 23.73 ± 3.66 to post: 16.27 ± 2.86, t(21) = 7.54, p < .001, d = 2.04) while remaining unchanged in controls (pre: 18.00 ± 3.85 to post: 18.41 ± 4.04, t(21) = 0.85, p = .406, d = 0.11), with a significant between-group difference (t(42) =-2.02, p = .050, d =-0.61). Subjective well-being improved markedly in the MAC group (pre: 9.00 ± 7.37 to post: 27.09 ± 7.47, t(21) = 8.37, p < .001, d = 2.45) compared to controls (pre: 4.54 ± 5.85 to post: 8.72 ± 6.08, t(21) = 0.65, p = .526, d = 0.71), with a significant between-group difference (t(42) = 6.85, p < .001, d = 2.07). MAC training represents an effective intervention for enhancing tennis performance, psychological well-being, and adaptive passion while reducing maladaptive passion. These findings support the clinical utility of mindfulness-based approaches in tennis psychology and warrant further investigation on a larger scale.

Objectives This study investigated the effect of the puppet-assisted House-Tree-Person Test (HTP-T) on fear and anxiety levels in children undergoing chemotherapy treatment and the factors influencing these outcomes. Methods The study employed a one-group pretest–posttest quasi-experimental design combined with HTP-T analysis. The study was conducted with 29 children aged 5–12 years receiving chemotherapy at the pediatric hematology-oncology outpatient clinics of a university hospital in the Eastern Black Sea Region of Türkiye during the 2022–2024 years. Data were collected using “the Demographic Information Form for Children and Parents, the Children's State Anxiety Scale (CSA), the Children's Fear Scale (CFS), and HTP-T". Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, repeated measures ANOVA, and HTP-T analysis. Results Statistically significant differences were observed in children's mean CSA (F = 3.898, p = 0.026, η2 = 0.122) and CFS (F = 5.313, p = 0.008, η2 = 0.159) scores across the pre-treatment, during-treatment, and post-treatment measurements. The HTP-T analysis revealed that children had difficulty regulating anxiety and fear, expressed concerns about family and environmental events, reported feelings of loneliness, and exhibited strong emotional attachment to their families. Conclusion The study demonstrated that incorporating puppet-assisted HTP-T during chemotherapy contributed to reducing children's fear and anxiety and offered a useful approach for identifying influencing factors. Implications for nursing practice HTP-T, a therapeutic play technique incorporating puppetry and projective methods, may be effective in reducing fear and anxiety among children undergoing chemotherapy.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Modal parameter determination and structural assessment of historical minaret under earthquake and wind loads
Yanik, Yusuf; Demirtaş, Betül; Yurdakul, Muhammet; Aymelek, Abdullah; Türker, Temel
This study presents a comprehensive linear time history of a historical masonry minaret called the Grand Mosque Minaret in Bayburt, employing a finite element (FE) model subjected to five distinct real earthquake acceleration records. Ambient vibration tests were conducted within the framework of operational modal analysis (OMA), utilizing enhanced frequency domain decomposition technique to estimate the experimental modal parameters. The FE model, developed under the assumption of linear elastic material behavior, was updated through a vibration-based model updating technique to accurately represent the dynamic characteristics of the structure. Each seismic record was applied as a base excitation, and the corresponding time-dependent structural responses were computed for initial and updated FE models. The analysis yielded critical engineering parameters, including maximum displacement and minimum–maximum principal stress distributions. The results obtained from the FE analyses were evaluated comparatively. Also in this study, the wind loads of the minaret were determined using the TS 498 standard, and structural wind load analyses were performed on the initial and updated FE models. Drift ratio values of the minaret were calculated for earthquake records and wind loads, and the structural performance of the minaret was evaluated comparatively for both models. It has been found that the structural behavior of the minaret was significantly affected by earthquakes. The drift ratio values remained within the controlled damage limit for wind analyses, while earthquake analyses indicated that the minaret was mostly in the collapse limit. The results show that more effective conservation and restoration strategies for cultural heritage structures can be developed by using both FE and experimental methods.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Scopus SJRQ1Resilience-oriented seismic retrofit of heritage masonry minarets using hybrid base isolation and supplemental damping
Ergun, Mustafa; Tonyali, Zeliha; Kiral, Adnan; Elias, Said
Historic masonry mosques represent a highly vulnerable class of cultural heritage structures whose seismic fragility stems from their complex geometries, heterogeneous material composition, and rigid load-transfer mechanisms. This study presents a resilience-oriented seismic performance improvement of the historic masonry minaret of the Bayburt Grand Mosque, a structure with limited lateral deformation capacity that challenges the applicability of conventional strengthening measures. To address this limitation, a hybrid retrofitting strategy is introduced, integrating lead rubber bearings (LRBs) with supplemental viscous dampers (VDs) at the foundation level. This combined system—implemented for the first time in a historic masonry minaret—aims to enhance energy dissipation and displacement control through a minimally invasive and architecturally compatible approach. Finite element analyses (FEA), coupled with MATLAB-supported optimization routines, were used to calibrate isolator stiffness and damper coefficients. Three configurations were evaluated: fixed-base, LRB-isolated, and hybrid LRB–VD systems. Nonlinear time-history analyses (NTHAs) using the 1992 Erzincan (Otlukbeli) earthquake record quantified displacements, stress–strain responses, and damage progression. Results show that while base isolation mitigates seismic demand, it remains insufficient under restricted deformation capacity. The proposed hybrid system reduces peak horizontal displacements from 22 cm to 12 cm, limits drift ratios below 0.17 %, and lowers maximum tensile stresses from 4.890 MPa to 0.490 MPa—well below the masonry tensile strength of 0.880 MPa. Two iterative analytical design methodologies are additionally introduced to derive effective isolator stiffness and viscous damping coefficients, enabling systematic integration into resilience-focused evaluation frameworks. Overall, the study advances reliability-based, conservation-compatible retrofitting practices for historic masonry minarets and supports sustainable strategies for seismic risk mitigation.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Determination of complex permittivity of a thin low-loss dielectric sample using state-space approach from waveguide measurements
Hasar, Ugur C.; Ali, Husain; Kaya, Yunus
An extraction procedure is proposed for relative complex permittivity () determination of thin low-loss samples positioned/deposited on a supporting substrate material using waveguide non-resonant microwave measurements. Its substrate thickness and sample thickness independence makes it unique extraction method in comparison with the available retrieval methods which are free from either substrate thickness information only or sample thickness information only. Its theoretical model is constructed on the state-transition matrix and state vector through which the link between and measured scattering (S-) parameters is established. Compared with previous works in the literature, a closed form (explicit) expression of is derived for a two-layer (sample on a substrate material) composite structure, thereby eliminating any numerical analysis or tool. Numerical analyses are implemented for validation of the proposed method as well as assessing the effect of noise and any possible air gap between the sample and its substrate. X-band ( GHz) waveguide measurements of a thinner (around 1.00 mm) polyvinyl chloride (PVC) for different measurement scenarios and measurements of a thin zinc oxide film (m) were performed to evaluate the performance of the proposed extraction method against other similar methods in the literature. Our method can find applications for characterization of thin-film, radar-absorbent material coatings, anti-corrosive paints, or thermal barrier coatings where sample thickness (and substrate thickness) can vary from one sample to another from the same batch.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Non-Destructive Intelligent Microwave Sensing of Water Content in Sand–Water Mixtures Using S-Parameter Features and PLS Regression
Çakır, Mehmet
The accurate and rapid estimation of water content in granular materials is important for geotechnical engineering, construction-material evaluation, agricultural monitoring, and non-destructive material assessment. This study presents a controlled laboratory feasibility framework for estimating water content in sand–water mixtures using microwave S-parameter measurements and physically interpretable features. Sixty measurements were acquired from six nominal mixture levels containing 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25% water by mass using a WR-229 waveguide-based fixture over 3.30–4.90 GHz. Descriptors were extracted from the raw and empty-reference-normalized S11 and S21 responses, including extrema, slopes, area-based indicators, band-averaged values, selected-frequency responses, and phase statistics. Ridge regression, partial least squares regression, support vector regression, Gaussian process regression, random forest, and gradient boosting regression were evaluated. The selected PLS model achieved RMSE = 3.56%, MAE = 2.92%, and R2 = 0.826 under leave-one-mixture-level-out group-wise cross-validation, which was used as the primary indicator of generalization to an unseen mixture level. The substantially lower error obtained under repeated-measurement leave-one-out cross-validation primarily reflects within-level repeatability under controlled conditions and should not be interpreted as evidence of universal calibration performance. The results demonstrate that magnitude- and phase-derived microwave descriptors, particularly transmission-based features, provide an interpretable and repeatable framework for water-content estimation under the specific sand type, sample geometry, water source, and laboratory conditions investigated. Further validation using independent preparation batches, different granular materials, measured water conductivity, temperature variation, and field-like conditions is required before practical deployment.

Kul, Murat; Hazar, Emre Berk; Boz, Emre; Uçal, Muhammed Salih
The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of eight weeks of TheraBand-based postural mobility exercises on athletic performance, strength, and proprioceptive senses in traditional Turkish archers (TTA). The study involved 24 male volunteer athletes enrolled at Bayburt University who had at least six months of regular archery training history. Participants were divided into experimental and control groups; the experimental group underwent postural mobility exercises three days a week for eight weeks, while the control group continued only their routine archery training. Data collection included assessments of grip and squeeze strength, back-leg strength, shoulder proprioception, shoulder mobility, and TTA shooting performance. The findings showed that the experimental group achieved significant improvement in all parameters, while the control group showed only limited increases in shoulder mobility and archery performance (p < .05). In conclusion, adding TheraBand exercises to traditional training is recommended as an effective method for increasing archers' muscle strength, joint stability, and performance.

Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are known for their significant anticancer and antimicrobial activities in the field of medicine. In the present study, AgNPs were synthesized using a microwave-assisted green synthesis process, in which Ag(I) ions were reduced by organic compounds extracted from the leaves and stems of Phlomis linearis, an endemic plant which acted as both reducing and stabilizing agents. Although various species of the Phlomis genus have been studied in the literature, the synthesis of the nano-sized biogenic silver with reducing Ag(I) in the extract of the endemic plant P. linearis is reported here for the first study time, along with the evaluations of its bioactive properties. The obtained AgNPs were characterized by optical, structural, morphological, etc. techniques such as Ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy (UV–Vis.), Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), dynamic light scattering (DLS), and photoluminescence (PL). Gas chromatography − mass spectrometry (GC–MS) and FT-IR techniques were used in order to evaluate the biochemical-reduction mechanism. When their antimicrobial activities were determined by the well diffusion method on six bacterial strains, the results showed that P. linearis exhibited antimicrobial activity against all tested bacteria. Additionally, the investigation of the anticancer activity of the particles by using the MTS method on a breast cancer cell line (MCF-7) and a healthy human cell population (human umbilical vein endothelial cells [HUVEC]) revealed that our AgNPs were more cytotoxic toward the cancerous cells compared to the non-cancerous ones (p < 0.001).

We examined the relationships between self-directed learning skills, university belonging, and student engagement in open online and distance learning environments within the framework of Self-Determination Theory. The research was conducted using a correlational survey model. Data were collected from 696 university students enrolled at a large-scale open, online and distance learning institution in Türkiye. We used three instruments measuring self-directed learning skills, university belonging, and student engagement. The data were analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling. The findings indicate that university belonging significantly and positively predicts all dimensions of student engagement. While self-control skills, learning skills, and sustaining the desire to learn significantly explain university belonging, metacognitive awareness and ability to identify sources were found to have no significant effect. Furthermore, it was found that university belonging acts as a significant mechanism in the relationships between self-control skills, learning skills, and sustaining the desire to learn, and student engagement. In this open and distance learning context, student engagement was not explained by individual learning skills alone. University belonging may therefore be one mechanism that partly accounts for the association between self-directed learning and academic participation. The study contributes by testing self-directed learning at the level of its dimensions, by identifying university belonging as a mechanism that partly accounts for its association with engagement, and by situating this model in a large-scale open and distance learning setting.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Scopus SJRQ1Reading intentions, not just behaviours: a NIKOM-informed pedagogical approach for religious education
Çinici, Murat
Religious education (RE) meets a recurring diagnostic problem: a pupil can recite doctrine, join in ritual talk, and give the ‘right’ moral answer while the underlying belief stays untouched. This article introduces the Intention Code Model (NIKOM; Niyet Kodu Modeli) to RE as a disciplined language for that problem. NIKOM is a mechanistic cognitive framework built on conditional IF→THEN ‘codes’ that probabilistically chain, activate, and align bodily and cognitive systems, and can be rewritten. Its central claim–a surface-compliance paradox, whereby observable behavioural change need not indicate code-level change–maps onto Kelman’s distinction between compliance and internalisation. The article sets out NIKOM for an RE readership, positions it among established RE pedagogies, distinguishes it from Gollwitzer’s implementation intentions, and derives a pedagogical stance, dialogue moves, and a developmental proposal for ‘code literacy’, with worked religious and non-religious vignettes for primary and secondary levels. The setting is non-confessional, educational RE; behaviour is no index of belief, and the affective and spiritual dimensions of learning are not reduced to cognition alone. NIKOM is offered as a theoretical synthesis awaiting validation, not a proven method; the article closes with an ethical analysis of ‘rewriting’ pupils’ codes and a research agenda.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1The effect of existing damage on the seismic performance of a historical masonry structure: a site-specific assessment
Tayfur, Bilal; Tunca, Osman; Artar, Musa; Çarbaş, Serdar
This study comprehensively evaluates the structural integrity and seismic performance of a historic masonry mosque, exhibiting significant settlement cracks, through an integrated approach combining field measurements and advanced numerical analyses. The Operational Modal Analysis (OMA) conducted to determine the dynamic characteristics of the structure. Field measurements revealed that the environmental vibrations originating from a nearby tram line causes significant amplitude incrase in one of the main columns. The dynamic characteristics of the structure obtained from field experiments are used to calibrate the numerical model via the Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm. The calibrated numerical model, taking into account the existing cracks in the structure using contact elements, was subjected to nonlinear analysis in the time domain under 11 site-specific ground motion records selected in accordance with the procedures of the Turkish Building Seismic Code. This analysis examined the seismic performance and damage mechanisms of the structure. The findings revealed that while existing settlement cracks contribute to seismic energy dissipation through frictional sliding and gap opening mechanisms, they may also serve as potential failure initiation points under strong ground motions. This study’s integrated approach, combining dual-purpose OMA application and explicit crack modeling with contact elements, constitutes a novel methodological framework for the realistic seismic assessment of historic masonry structures with pre-existing damage.

Background: Aerobic capacity and respiratory efficiency are critical determinants of performance in elite female football, characterized by repeated high-intensity efforts and rapid recovery demands. Halotherapy, involving the inhalation of dry salt aerosol, has been shown to improve pulmonary health; however, its effects on exercise-related outcomes in athletic populations remain insufficiently investigated. This study aimed to examine the effects of a 12-week post-training halotherapy intervention on respiratory muscle strength, pulmonary function, and aerobic performance in elite female football players. Methods: Twenty-eight elite female football players competing in the Turkish Women’s First League were randomly assigned to a halotherapy group (HG, n = 14) or a control group (CG, n = 14). Both groups completed an identical preseason training program, while the HG additionally performed 45 min halotherapy sessions three times per week in a controlled halochamber. Pre- and post-intervention assessments included maximal inspiratory and expiratory pressures (MIP, MEP), spirometric parameters (FVC, FEV1, PEF, MVV), and maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) estimated using the Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test Level 1 (Yo-Yo IRT1), along with total distance covered. A 2 × 2 mixed-model ANOVA was used to assess time and group × time interaction effects. Results: Significant group × time interactions were observed for MIP, MEP, VO2max, FEV1, PEF, MVV, and Yo-Yo IRT1 performance (p < 0.05), with large effect sizes (ηp2 = 0.269–0.924), favoring the halotherapy group. Forced vital capacity (FVC) increased over time in both groups (p = 0.141), with no significant interaction effect. Changes in the control group were comparatively smaller across most outcomes. Conclusion: Post-training halotherapy was associated with improvements in respiratory muscle strength, ventilatory function, aerobic capacity, and intermittent running performance in elite female football players. These findings suggest that halotherapy may be considered as a complementary, non-invasive strategy to support respiratory and aerobic adaptations. Further research is required to confirm these findings and to clarify the underlying physiological mechanisms. Trial registration: NCT07406386; 6 February 2026.

Öktem, Tuncay; Akkuş, Ramazan; Öz, Ümit; Gök, Umut Diyar
Introduction – Folk dances, which are among the most important cultural elements reflecting societies’ historical heritage, ways of life, and shared values, are regarded not only as an art form but also as a functional tool that contributes to an individual’s psychological well-being. Because they are based on physical activity and involve group participation, they can positively impact empathy and anxiety. The primary objective of this study is to examine the psychosocial characteristics of individuals who participate in folk dances, with a focus on the relationship between empathy and anxiety. In this context, folk dance will be discussed from various perspectives in relation to empathy and anxiety. Materials and methods – The study employed the correlational survey model, a quantitative research method. The study included 358 participants interested in folk dances. Data were collected using the Empathic Tendencies Scale and the trait anxiety section of the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory. Statistical analyses included descriptive statistics, a normality test, Pearson correlation, and regression analysis. Results – A negative, significant, and weak correlation was observed between participants’ trait anxiety and their empathic tendencies. Results from the regression analysis reveal that participants’ empathic tendencies significantly predict their trait anxiety, explaining 10.7% of the total variance. Conclusion – In conclusion, folk dance may be considered a factor associated with individuals’ anxiety and empathy levels.

Yarımkaya, Erkan; Bakkaloğlu, Hatice
Individuals with intellectual disabilities and their parents, who encounter many barriers in daily life, may experience even more serious problems when faced with a devastating disaster such as an earthquake. For effective earthquake preparation, it is important to identify these problems before the earthquake. However, studies examining the earthquake experiences of individuals with intellectual disabilities and their parents are quite limited. In this context, the aim of the current study was to explore the experiences of parents of individuals with intellectual disabilities who were affected by the 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquakes in Türkiye. This study used the phenomenological qualitative research design. In this study, there were 16 parents, who have children with intellectual disabilities and participated in face-to-face interviews. Interview data were analyzed thematically. Two overarching themes were found: (1) low level of earthquake preparedness, and (2) inaccessible needs. The findings revealed that the majority of parents of individuals with intellectual disabilities made few preparations for the earthquake, could not access many of their needs during and after the earthquake, and could not find a special unit for individuals with disabilities to explain their problems.

Glutathione reductase (GR) plays a crucial role in maintaining cellular redox balance and is a promising target for ferroptosis-based cancer therapies. In this study, we report the design, synthesis, and comprehensive evaluation of a novel series of 1,2,4-triazole–Schiff base succinate derivatives (AUR-514–518) as potent GR inhibitors. In vitro Mannervik assays revealed vigorous submicromolar inhibitory activity, with AUR-517 emerging as the most effective (IC50 = 0.471 ± 0.032 μM), significantly surpassing quercetin (IC50 = 214.5 ± 18.5 μM). Antioxidant profiling revealed negligible radical scavenging activity; however, modest CUPRAC responses suggest a target-specific mechanism. To elucidate the molecular determinants of inhibition, we employed deep-learning–assisted protein–ligand affinity predictions, molecular dynamics simulations, MM/GBSA free-energy calculations, and dimensional reduction analyses. These computational studies revealed dual binding modes at both the catalytic site and dimer interface, with AUR-517 forming stable interactions with key catalytic residues, consistent with experimental potency rankings. The RMSD/RMSF profiles indicated enhanced conformational stability of GR–ligand complexes, while binding energy landscapes underscored the superior stability of AUR-517. Consequently, these findings establish the AUR series as a new class of structurally validated GR inhibitors, with AUR-517 representing a lead scaffold for the rational development of ferroptosis-sensitizing agents with translational potential in oncology.

Aydemir, Uğur; Yarımkaya, Erkan
This study aimed to examine the effects of parent-child coparticipation in physical activity (PA) on the PA levels and fundamental motor skills (FMSs) of children with autism spectrum disorder. Participants were assigned to one of the following three groups: (a) a parent-child group (n = 14), (b) a child group (n = 13), and (c) a control group (n = 13). After 8 weeks of intervention, the within-group comparison revealed a significant increase in PA levels and FMSs in children with autism spectrum disorder in the parent-child group and the child group (p < .001). The between-group comparison further showed that children in the parent-child group had statistically higher scores for PA levels and FMSs than children in the child and control groups (p < .001). These findings suggest that parent-child coparticipation in PA may be a promising component of family-based interventions to promote PA and facilitate the acquisition of FMSs among children with autism spectrum disorder.
