İncele - MakaleAçık Erişim2024Iran’s Sacred Duty: Advocating Palestine in the Face of National Identity Challenges
Gülcan, Nazıfe Selcen Pınar
The Islamic Republic of Iran’s approach to the Palestinian issue since the revolution is characterized by its complexity and intricacy. This article proposes a framework centered on the dynamic interaction between 'self and other' to analyze how identity shapes Iran's policy toward Palestine. Departing from the premise that Iran's foreign policy on this issue is influenced by multiple identities rather than a singular one, the study underscores the notion that these identities can both contest and complete each other. The research seeks the narratives articulated by Iranian elites regarding the Palestine issue. It also handles the Iran decision-maker’s discourses regarding developments after October 7, 2023, and the invasion of Gaza. While the aim is to focus on how Iran’s national identity has been tested and challenged on the Palestinian matter, the analysis also tries to illuminate how elite discourse has reshaped foreign policy narratives.

İncele - MakaleAçık Erişim2024Meta's Challenge with Olives and Watermelon: The Case of Blocking Posts About Gaza
Kizmaz, Nuran
Digitalization stands out as an important factor transforming social structures and forms of communication in today's society. Social media offers a socio-political ground for participatory democracy and an alternative to traditional media in a globalizing world. Recently, Israel's attack on Gaza and the massive genocide in the region have caused a great resonance on the internet and social media. The aim of this study is to examine the censorship mechanisms applied by social media platforms during Israel's attacks on Gaza. The main question of the research is how social media censorship mechanisms affect freedom of expression and digital activism. As a result of the research, it has been observed that since the first days of the war, especially on Facebook and Instagram, posts were removed biasedly, and the accounts of people who frequently posted such posts were slowed down, and their posts were algorithmically blocked from being seen. As a result of this process, users have tried to overcome this situation with visuals such as watermelons and olives, symbols associated with Gaza. Contradicting the idea that alternative new media creates a libertarian space, it created great disappointment and damaged the trust of users. The importance of the research lies in its demonstration of the effects of censorship on freedom of expression and digital activism in social media. The study will examine social media censorship in Gaza in detail through using a literature review methodology and discussing relevant figures. As a result, we will present examples of the efforts of social media users who are algorithmically censored, which we call symbolic subversion, to overcome this situation with symbols.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2024What does Ottoman Palace Cuisine Mean in Terms of the Development of Gastronomy Tourism in Türkiye? Delving into the Turkish Chefs’ Perspectives
Ödemiş, Murat; Nazikgul, Mehmet
The food and beverages served in the palaces of the Ottoman Empire are still practised today and are in demand by gastronomy tourists. The main aim of this study is to examine the practises of the kitchen chefs in 5-star hotel establishments in Antalya regarding the Ottoman palace cuisine, service methods, the sources from which they learned the recipes, the level of appreciation of the guests and the differences in practises between the chefs. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with hotel chefs, and the data obtained were analysed by descriptive analysis and content analysis methods. It was determined that due to financial constraints, some hotels do not produce meals in accordance with their original form. In addition, it was concluded that serving palace cuisine dishes in containers belonging to the period and in an area designated for palace cuisine dishes would contribute positively to the recognition of the Ottoman palace cuisine. While the chefs stated that lamb dishes and baklava are the most popular foods for tourists, Mutancana and Ballı (Honey) Mahmudiye dishes prepared with dried fruits are another important issue that is understood from the interviews that the rich variety of Ottoman palace cuisine is not sufficiently applied in today’s hotel kitchens and some recipes do not reflect the original. There is no other study in the literature investigating the Ottoman Palace Cuisine practises of hotel kitchen chefs in Antalya. From this perspective, this study is original enough to shed light on future research.

Okur, Fatih; Yavuz, Serdar
The primary objective of any nation's economy is to achieve economic stability and a high standard of living. This can be attained through sustainable economic growth. However, global economic competition often brings about challenges, one of which is the increasing demand for energy products driven by population growth. Historically, this demand has been predominantly met by fossil fuels, but due to resource depletion and environmental concerns, there has been a growing interest in alternative energy sources. This shift towards renewable energy has become a global trend. The energy sector serves as a key indicator of a nation's prosperity and development, with renewable energy production, transportation, and costs being vital metrics of development. For Turkey, like many developing nations, investing in renewable energy is crucial for sustainable growth. This study explores the relationship between renewable energy, economic growth, and inflation in Turkey from 1975 to 2022. It examines the process of economic growth in the first part, followed by an analysis of energy dynamics and inflation in subsequent sections. The study employs unit root tests such as ADF and PP, along with the Toda-Yamamoto causality test, using available data. The final results are then interpreted.

Orthorexia nervosa (ON) is a type of eating disorder marked by an excessive preoccupation with eating healthily to preserve and promote health, which surpasses normal levels of concern. This study aims to investigate the correlation between orthorexic tendencies, anthropometric measurements, and several other characteristics among university students. A cross-sectional study was done with a sample size of 307 university students from various departments, consisting of 228 females and 79 males. The data-gathering process consisted of administering a demographic information form and the ORTO-11 questionnaire. Anthropometric measurements, such as weight, height, waist circumference, hip circumference, and chest circumference, were measured. In addition, Body Mass Index (BMI) was calculated. The TANITA BC-418 equipment was used to measure the weight of the participants, while a flexible tape measure was used to measure their height, waist circumference, hip circumference, and chest circumference. The BMI was calculated by the individual's weight (in kilograms) by the square of their height (in meters). The data analysis encompassed the utilization of descriptive statistics, t-tests, variance analysis, and Pearson correlation analysis. A score of 25 or lower on the ORTO-11 scale was categorized as orthorexic, whereas a score higher than 25 was deemed normal. The average age and orthorexia scores of the subjects were 20.81±1.86 and 27.76±4.42 for females, and 21.38±4.14 and 28.11±4.37 for males, respectively. It was determined that 29.3% of the participants were found to display orthorexic tendencies, while the remaining 70.7% did not. There were no statistically significant variations in age, hip circumference, and orthorexia scores across genders (p>0.05). No statistically significant relationship was found between the total orthorexia scores and BMIs of the individuals (r=-.051, p>0.05). ON is associated with psychological and social complications, which in turn contribute to the development of disordered eating patterns. The results of this study indicate that determining the frequency of orthorexic tendencies among university students may contribute to the development of strategies for its prevention.
