- MakaleYalnız künye2026Scopus SJRQ2Sorting chiral active Brownian particles with radially modulated optical fields
Yücel, Harun
This study presents a numerical investigation of sorting chiral active Brownian particles using radially modulated optical fields. How these factors affect particle trajectories and spatial distributions is examined by systematically varying particle parameters such as self-propulsion speed, angular velocity, and optical fringe modulation. It is found that the average orbit radius of the particle trajectory strongly depends on the ratio of the self-propulsion speed to the average velocity induced by the moving fringe pattern. In particular, the average orbit radius converges to the theoretical orbit radius defined by the ratio of the self-propulsion speed to the angular velocity in the regime where the self-propulsion speed is greater than the fringe-induced velocity. In mixtures of particles with differing chirality, the dynamic response to circular fringe patterns enables effective classification based on motility. These findings suggest that structured light fields can be used to manipulate and selectively sort chiral active particles, which have potential applications in optical micromanipulation and active matter research.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Scopus SJRQ1How to conceptualize the equal sign by middle school students?
Türk, Adem; Öztürk, Mesut
This research examined middle school grade 5–8 students’ conceptualization of the equal sign. The study employed a cross-sectional approach. Eight middle school students studying in official public schools in Turkey participated in the study. The study’s data were collected through a clinical interview that utilized eight open-ended questions, covering topics such as arithmetic, pre-algebra, proportional relationship, and algebra. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the study data. Although previous studies showed that students saw the equal sign as write a result, the results of this research, which is a follow-up study, revealed that students did not think of the equal sign as write a result.

Öztürk, Mesut; Ada Yildiz, Kübra; Charitaki, Garyfalia
In this quantitative study, we investigated the conditional mediating role of students’ mathematical language self-efficacy in the relationship between self-regulation and mathematics anxiety. The study employed a relational research design and included survey data from 706 middle school students attending public schools in Turkey. Findings indicated that both self-regulation and perceived self-efficacy in mathematical language use were significantly associated with mathematics anxiety. Moreover, the effect of self-regulation on mathematics anxiety was significantly mediated by students’ perceptions of their ability to understand and use mathematical language self-efficacy. The indirect effect was negative while the direct effect was positive, indicating a suppression (competitive mediation) effect, whereby self-regulation exerts both anxiety-reducing and potentially anxiety-inducing influences through different pathways. Conditional mediation analysis further revealed that this mediating effect varied as a function of students’ perceived academic support, with the indirect effect being non-significant for students who did not receive support. Measurement invariance across gender and grade level was examined to ensure that the constructs were measured equivalently across groups. These findings highlight the importance of fostering both self-regulation skills and mathematical language proficiency, particularly in contexts where students may lack sufficient support. These findings provide a theoretically grounded and practically relevant framework for understanding mathematics anxiety within inclusive mathematics education contexts.

Rosmarinic acid (RA) is a natural polyphenol with established pleiotropic protective effects. Ifosfamide (IFA) is a potent antineoplastic agent whose clinical utility is severely limited by dose-dependent nephrotoxicity, primarily mediated by its metabolite, chloroacetaldehyde (CAA). This study aimed to investigate whether RA protects against IFA-induced nephrotoxicity and to elucidate the underlying molecular mechanisms. Male Wistar albino rats (n = 7 per group) were allocated into four groups: Control, RA-only (50 mg/kg, p.o., 2 days), IFA-only (a single 500 mg/kg, i.p. dose), and IFA + RA. Serum biochemical markers (urea, creatinine), renal oxidative stress parameters (MDA, GSH, SOD, CAT, GPx), gene expression levels (NF-κB, TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-17 A, ACT1, TRAF6, Caspase-3, Bax, Bcl-2, PTGS2, GPX4, TfR1), and histopathological/immunohistochemical analyses (KIM-1, Nephrin, Caspase-3) were performed 24 h post-administration. IFA induced severe renal dysfunction, marked oxidative stress, and extensive histopathological damage. Mechanistically, IFA initiated a pathogenic cascade activating intrinsic apoptosis and ferroptosis, driven by a self-sustaining IL-17 A-TRAF6-NF-κB inflammatory loop. RA co-treatment (50 mg/kg) significantly reversed all functional, biochemical, and histological damage by strategically breaking this crosstalk, restoring redox homeostasis, and simultaneously restraining both cell death programs. In conclusion, RA protects against IFA nephrotoxicity by targeting the critical inflammation-ferroptosis coupling, positioning it as a highly promising adjuvant candidate for clinical use to mitigate IFA-induced renal injury.

Okur, Süheyb; Bayraktar, Bülent
Background: This study aims to examine the acute neurobiological effects of reciting the Quran from the Mushaf on salivary BDNF, Apelin, and Cortisol levels and their relationship with emotional state. Methods: The study employed a randomized pre-test post-test control group design conducted in Türkiye. The sample consisted of 100 healthy theology students (50 females, 50 males) aged 18–25, proficient in reciting the Quran in accordance with Tajweed rules. Participants were randomly assigned to either the experimental group (reciting the first nine verses of Surah Al-Imran, n = 50) or the control group (standardized passive resting, n = 50). Salivary BDNF, apelin, and cortisol levels were measured using the ELISA technique before and after the intervention. Emotional states were assessed using the Mood Scale and the Psychological Well-being Scale. Results: The experimental group exhibited a statistically significant increase in mean salivary BDNF and apelin levels and a significant decrease in cortisol levels following recitation compared to the passive control group (p < 0.05). In terms of gender, no statistically significant differences were observed in biomarker responses (p >.05). Correlation analysis revealed a significant “biological reciprocity,” where cortisol showed a negative correlation with apelin (r = -0.436, p < 0.001) and BDNF, while correlating positively with negative emotions. Conclusions: Reciting the Quran aloud acts as a rapid psychophysiological intervention that downregulates the HPA axis (reduced cortisol) and upregulates neurotrophic factors (increased BDNF and apelin). These findings suggest that structured recitation functions as a restorative neuroplasticity practice, promoting biological stress resilience associated with psychological well-being.

Glucansucrases catalyze the production of α-glucans using sucrose as substrate with distinct physicochemical characteristics originates from mainly the type of linkages, degree of branching and molecular mass. New forms of α-glucans can be produced by applying specific mutations to glucansucrases. In this study, a single and double mutation at Leu933 and Leu935 sites of glucansucrase E81 was applied and L933I and L933I-L935F sites modified glucansucrase was obtained. Structural characterisation of bioengineered α-glucans revealed that ratio of (1 → 3):(1 → 6) linked α-Glc units altered at L933I whereas no (1 → 3)-linked α-Glc units were presented for L933I-L935F modified glucansucrase detected by NMR analysis. Both bioengineered α-glucans had lower molecular weights in comparison to glucan E81 detected by GPC analysis. TGA and DSC analysis were applied to detect the thermal profiles of bioengineered α-glucans whereas FTIR and XRD analysis were applied to determine the alterations in the structural and physical nature of the bioengineered α-glucans, respectively. Finally, SEM and AFM analysis were applied to explore the morphological modifications of the bioengineered α-glucans. This study provides a better understanding for the potential role of final glucan structures on their physicochemical characteristics. Keywords: glucansucrase; carbohydrate engineering; mutation.

Hypericum Tourn. ex L. species exhibit well-documented neuropsychopharmacological activities, yet the central effects of Hypericum olympicum L. remain unknown. Given the frequent comorbidity of depressive symptoms and pain, this study aimed to characterize, for the first time, the antidepressant-like and antinociceptive profile of H. olympicum in mice. A methanolic extract of the aerial parts (HoE) was prepared, and its major phenolic constituents were identified by LC-MS/MS. At behaviorally active doses, HoE (2.5 and 5 mg/kg, i.p.) did not impair motor coordination in the Rota-rod test, in contrast to diazepam (2 mg/kg, p.o.), indicating the absence of neuromotor confounding effects. In both the tail suspension test (TST) and the modified forced swim test (MFST), HoE significantly reduced immobility, with effects comparable to those of fluoxetine (30 mg/kg, p.o.). In the MFST, increased swimming behavior without changes in climbing suggested a predominantly serotonergic component. HoE also produced marked antinociceptive effects in multiple nociceptive models. It increased response latencies in the hot-plate, tail-immersion, and tail-clip tests, reflecting activity in supraspinal and spinal thermal and mechanical nociceptive processing. In addition, HoE significantly reduced acetic acid-induced writhing, indicating visceral antinociceptive activity. Morphine (10 mg/kg, i.p.) served as the positive control in pain assays. LC-MS/MS analysis indicated the presence of major phenolic constituents, including hyperoside, myricetin derivatives, caffeoylquinic acid derivatives, a luteolin/kaempferol-type glucoside, and a biflavone of the biapigenin/amentoflavone type. These findings suggest that HoE possesses dual antidepressant-like and antinociceptive properties and support its further evaluation for disorders at the affect–pain interface.

This study experimentally investigates the thermal and electrical performance, economic feasibility, and environmental impacts of a hybrid energy system integrated with a parabolic trough collector (PTC) and thermoelectric generator (TEG). In the established system, solar energy is converted into electrical and thermal energy using a steam turbine and TEG. Experimental data indicate that the system operates with an average efficiency of 71.44%, which varies depending on the intensity of solar radiation. The overall energy efficiency of the system is calculated as 14.51%. In the economic analysis, the payback period of the designed system is approximately 5.4 years, while the levelised cost of energy production (LCOE) is calculated to be 0.075 USD kWh−1. The environmental assessment indicates that the system can prevent 356.18 kg of CO2 emissions annually and save approximately 1499.72 L of water. These findings demonstrate that hybrid systems offer an economically and environmentally sustainable and efficient alternative to energy production.

This pioneering study presents the synthesis and comprehensive evaluation of bare and metal-doped Ag₂S nanocrystals (NCs) as multifunctional agents with potential applications in antibacterial, antioxidant, and anticancer therapies. The incorporation of manganese, nickel, cobalt, and zinc into Ag₂S NCs resulted in a notable enhancement of their bioactivity, representing a novel approach in nanomaterial design. The antibacterial assessments revealed that Mn:Ag₂S NCs were the most potent candidate, exhibiting exceptional activity against S. aureus and E. coli, with the lowest MIC values recorded at 1.28 mg/mL and 1.08 mg/mL, respectively. The antioxidant studies demonstrated that the Mn:Ag₂S NCs exhibited remarkable free radical scavenging and ferric reducing capacities, with the lowest IC50 values (22.69 µg/mL for DPPH and 61.31 µg/mL for FRAP) underscoring their potential to mitigate oxidative stress. Importantly, cytotoxicity assays revealed that Ni:Ag₂S and Mn:Ag₂S nanocrystals selectively inhibited the proliferation of human colon cancer cells (HT-29), achieving IC50 values of 61.51 µg/mL and 90.12 µg/mL, respectively. Furthermore, these NCs demonstrate reduced toxicity towards mouse fibroblast cells (L929). This selective cytotoxicity indicates the potential of these agents in targeted cancer therapies, thereby reducing damage to healthy tissues. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to systematically explore the synergistic effects of metal doping on the multifunctional properties of Ag₂S NCs. These findings provide a robust basis for further in vivo studies and offer new avenues for the development of safe and effective nanomaterials in biomedical applications, particularly as antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anticancer agents.

Ayata, Ümit; Peker, Hüseyin; Ulay, Göksel; Çamlıbel, Osman; Atilgan, Abdi
It is known that blue stain causes a loss of price value for Scots pine wood in the wood trade due to the visual defects it creates. In this study, color parameters [red color tone (a*), lightness (L*) value, yellow (b*) color tone, tone angle (h°) value, and chroma (C*) value], whiteness index (WI*) values, and glossiness measurements [at angles of 20°, 60°, and 85°] were compared in Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) wood with normal and blue rot conditions. According to the color parameters obtained, it was determined that the L* value decreased by 11.43%, a* by 79.95%, b* by 28.86%, and C* by 32.75%, while the h° value increased by 17.74%. With the blue coloration, decreases were observed in the 20° glossiness values measured in the ⃦ and ⊥ directions, while increases were observed in the 60° and 85° glossiness values measured in the ⃦ and ⊥ directions. With the blue coloration, decreases of 12.86% in the ⊥ direction and 29.87% in the ⃦ direction in the WI* values were observed. According to these results, it was determined that the wood material with the blue coloration disease had a darker color.

Propolis is a chemically complex bee product whose biological properties depend on its botanical and geographical origin. However, little is known about how gastrointestinal digestion affects its phenolic profile and bioactivity. In this study, twelve propolis samples from eight countries were evaluated for phenolic and flavonoid contents, antioxidant capacity (FRAP, ABTS+•), and urease inhibition before and after simulated gastric digestion. RP-HPLC–PDA identified 26 phenolic compounds showing substantial compositional diversity. Turkish Bolu propolis retained the highest post-gastric FRAP value, while several samples (BBP, AFP) maintained or enhanced urease inhibition. PCA and HCA highlighted origin-dependent differentiation, identifying digestive stability as a key variable for functional potential.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Finite element analysis driven optimization of an electrodynamic levitation system with permanent magnet Halbach arrays
Ozkat, Erkan Caner; Abdioglu, Murat; Ozturk, U. Kemal
This study presents a finite element analysis (FEA)-driven optimization for the design of an electrodynamic levitation (EDL) system incorporating permanent magnet Halbach arrays (PM-HAs). The primary objective is to maximize the net force difference between lift (Fy) and drag (Fx) forces under realistic physical and manufacturing constraints. The nonlinear electromagnetic behavior of the EDL system is modeled using high-fidelity FEA, capturing the complex interaction between the PM-HA and a conductive plate. At each iteration of the population-based optimization algorithm, full magnetoquasistatic simulations are performed to ensure a physically accurate evaluation of key performance metrics. A comprehensive parametric study involving 256 distinct PM-HA configurations reveals a non-monotonic relationship between the number of magnets and levitation performance, highlighting the critical role of magnetic field distribution. Configurations with 9 to 11 magnets achieve the highest net levitation force. The optimization results indicate that the optimal configuration includes four horizontally aligned permanent magnets (PMs) with a width of 74.00 mm and three vertically aligned PMs with a width of 74.67 mm, along with a 7 mm thick conductive plate having a conductivity of 5 ×107 S/m. This design delivers a maximum lift force of 3550 N and a minimum drag force of 279 N at 100 m/s. The findings demonstrate that effective EDL system design requires a carefully arranged magnet configuration rather than a simple maximization of magnet count or size. The proposed FEA-guided framework offers a robust and scalable methodology for the optimization of high-performance Maglev systems.

Köktürk, Seda Nur; Yardımcı, Hülya
Growing concerns over environmental sustainability and health have increased the demand for sustainable diets. Advances in artificial intelligence (AI) offer new opportunities for diet planning. Evaluating the nutritional adequacy and environmental impact of AI-generated sustainable diets is essential. This study aimed to compare the nutritional quality and ecological footprints of sustainable diets created by four popular AI tools (Gemini, Copilot, ChatGPT, and Grok). Each AI tool generated a sustainable diet plan for a healthy adult woman. Diets were evaluated for energy, nutrient content, antioxidant capacity, glycemic index, protein quality, fatty acid profiles, Healthy Eating Index-2015 scores, and ecological footprints. All diets showed low ecological footprints but did not meet energy targets (1800 kcal/day). Gemini had the most sustainable composition. Vitamin B12 was consistently below recommended levels in diets from Gemini, Copilot, and ChatGPT. All diets had adequate carbohydrate, protein, fat quality, and overall diet quality. Carbon footprint associated with protein, energy from protein, cholesterol, pyridoxine, folate, and vitamin C. Water footprint was linked to multiple nutrients, and fruits, meat, poultry, and fish; vegetable intake correlated with carbon footprint. AI-assisted diets have potential for sustainability but nutritional completeness concerns remain, especially for vulnerable groups. Further studies comparing AI and dietitian plans are needed to assess long-term effects.

- MakaleYalnız künye2026Scopus SJRQ3Acute muscle responses according to training level in traditional Turkish archery: an examination of swelling and damage
Kul, Murat; Hazar, Emre Berk
This study aimed to compare acute muscle swelling and echogenicity responses induced by repeated arrow shooting in experienced and amateur traditional Turkish archers, and to examine the influence of training level using ultrasonography. Twenty-four male athletes (12 experienced, 12 amateur) performed 105 arrow shots. Pre- and post-measurements of upper-extremity muscle thickness (MT) and echogenicity were collected. Data were analyzed using repeated-measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) and paired t-tests. Both groups showed significant increases in MT, particularly in experienced archers. Echogenicity increased in several muscles, notably the supraspinatus, brachialis, pronator teres, and brachioradialis. The lack of strong correlation between MT and echogenicity suggests that these parameters reflect distinct acute muscular responses. In conclusion, training level influences acute muscular adaptations to shooting, and certain muscles may require targeted protection to prevent overuse injuries. This study provides the first ultrasonographic evaluation of these responses in traditional Turkish archery.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Scopus SJRQ2Investigation of magnetic levitation performance in Ag-added DyBa2Cu3O7-δ superconductors fabricated by single-direction melt growth (SDMG) method
Doğruer, M.; Abdioğlu, M.; Motoki, T.; Ozturk, U. Kemal
Abstract This study investigates the magnetic levitation and guidance characteristics of Ag-doped DyBa2Cu3O7-δ superconducting bulks, synthesized by the single-direction melt growth (SDMG) technique. The levitation force, vertical stiffness and lateral guidance force are measured at varying cooling heights (CHs) of 5 mm, 25 mm and 50 mm, with a constant working height (WH) of 5 mm for lateral force measurements. DyBa2Cu3O7-δ samples are cooled using liquid nitrogen (77 K) and thermal stabilization is achieved before force data collection. Results show that levitation forces increase with CH, while the levitation force curves exhibit both attractive and repulsive behavior depending on the CH. The lateral guidance force is higher for the Ag2 sample than for the Ag1 sample and decreased as the temperature decreased. Vertical stiffness also increased with CH and decreased as the levitation gap decreased, confirming heightened guidance forces at smaller distances. The flux density distributions, including both lateral ( B x ) and vertical ( B y ) components, are found to significantly impact the levitation and guidance force performance. Specifically, configurations with concentrated B x gradients improved levitation stability, while configurations with distributed B y led to stronger guidance forces. These findings underscore the importance of optimizing the PMG design to balance B x for levitation and B y for guidance in superconducting systems.

Ari-Arat, Ceren; Tutkun, Cansu
The aim of this study was to examine the associations between preschool children’s perceived capabilities, perspective-taking skills, and behavioral intentions toward peers with special educational needs. The sample consisted of 193 preschool children aged 4 to 6 years, selected through convenience sampling from early childhood education centres in Bayburt, Türkiye. A quantitative cross-sectional design was employed. Data were collected using the Child Information Form, the Perceived Capabilities Scale, the Behavioral Intentions Scale, and the Child Perspective-Taking Test. Data collection was conducted in one-on-one sessions over two meetings per child, with an average duration of 18 min. Small but statistically significant positive associations were observed between children’s perceived capabilities and their behavioral intentions across the three peer conditions (r =.283-0.289, p <.01). Small associations were also observed between selected perspective-taking components and behavioral intentions in the bivariate analyses; however, none of the perspective-taking components remained significantly associated with behavioral intentions after the other variables were taken into account. Across the three regression models, perceived capabilities were the only variable that remained significantly associated with behavioral intentions (β = 0.268-0.289, p <.001). The regression models explained a modest proportion of the variance in behavioral intentions (R² = 0.093-0.106; adjusted R² = 0.074-0.087). Exploratory group comparisons indicated selective differences in perspective-taking according to reported experience with peers with SEN; however, these findings should be interpreted cautiously because experience was measured dichotomously and the direct-experience groups were highly unequal. Girls reported slightly higher behavioral intentions toward peers with physical disabilities than boys (t = 2.318, p =.022), whereas no significant age-related differences were observed.
