Turhan, Fatma Seher; Yayla, Ibrahim Erdogan; Sahranç, Umit; Makas, Samet; Yildirim, Murat

Parenting stress is a critical factor influencing family dynamics, often undermining the quality of coparenting. Exploring the mechanisms through which parenting stress impacts coparenting and the potential mediating role of parental self-efficacy is essential for developing effective family-based interventions. This study aims to examine the mediating role of parental self-efficacy in the relationship between parenting stress and coparenting. The sample consisted of 240 parents (79.6% female) aged 25-58 (M = 36.5). Participants completed the Parenting Stress scale, the Berkeley Parenting Self-Efficacy Scale, and the Coparenting Scale. Parenting stress showed a significant negative association with both coparenting quality and parenting self-efficacy. Furthermore, parenting self-efficacy was found to mediate the association between parenting stress and coparenting. These results highlight the important role of parents' self-efficacy in influencing how stress influences coparenting dynamics. Strengthening parents' confidence in their parenting abilities may help buffer the harmful effects of stress and foster more cooperative, supportive coparenting practices.

Sevgili, Omer; Orak, Ikram; Özel, Sultan Suleyman; Özel, Faruk

The fabrication of Al/NiO/p-Si Schottky diode (SD) was formed using a thermal evaporation system. The structural analyze of NiO using an interfacial layer was conducted using a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and the SEM cross-section revealed a thickness of 0.0345 mu m for NiO interfacial layer. The capacitance-voltage (C-V) and conductance-voltage (G/omega-V) measurements of the fabricated SD were performed in the 50 kHz to 5 MHz frequency range and in the-3 V to +3 V range. The Nicollian-Brews method was employed to calculate the series resistance (Rs), while the high-low frequency capacitance method (CHF-CLF) was used to calculate the surface states (Nss). The value of the Nss was determined to be in the order of 1012 eV-1cm-2. These findings suggest that NiO is a promising alternative to conventional insulating layers in electronic devices.

Physical Activity, Technology Use, and AI Anxiety Among University Students: Associations With Academic Integrity Attitudes

Yaman, Menzure Sibel; Çakir, Zekai; Çatikkas, Fatih; Türkmen, Mutlu; Sengönül, Abdullah; Gönen, Mevlut; Öktem, Tuncay; Güzel, Sema; Yel, Kader

This study examined the associations between university students' physical activity, technology use habits, and anxiety related to artificial intelligence (AI) within an academic integrity context. Since the study did not measure verified misconduct, academic integrity was conceptualised as attitudes and self-reported behaviours. Perceptions of uncited AI use and citation practices were therefore defined as the primary integrity-related outcomes. A survey was completed by 1,018 students (TUHS, AIAS), complemented by focus group interviews with 25 participants. Quantitative analyses (t-tests, ANOVA, regression) indicated that regular physical activity was associated with lower self-reported technology dependence and lower AI anxiety. Non-active female students and younger students (18-22) recorded the highest scores. Daily internet use exceeding six hours and social media-focused engagement were associated with greater dependence and anxiety. Qualitative findings provided explanatory depth: physically active students described a more routine, focused, and self-regulated approach, while inactive students emphasised longer screen time, distraction, and stress. These patterns were consistent with the quantitative results. Overall, the findings suggest that balanced technology use, physical activity, and clear ethical awareness (e.g., citation behaviour) are associated with lower technology dependence and AI anxiety. Integrating digital literacy and ethics training with programmes that encourage physical activity may support responsible technology use and integrity-related awareness in higher education. Findings are interpreted as patterns of co-occurrence rather than causal effects, because the cross-sectional design does not allow directionality.

Morin counteracts KBrO3-induced hepatotoxicity by reprogramming the HOTAIR/MEG3-miR-125b-5p/miR-214-5p axis and suppressing STAT1-associated RIPK3/MLKL necroptotic signaling

Özer, Muhammed Rasit; Özdemir, Selcuk; Küçükler, Sefa; Özkaraca, Mustafa; Kizil, Hamit Emre; Akaras, Nurhan; Mutlu, Huseyin; Kandemir, Fatih Mehmet

Potassium bromate (KBrO3; PB), an oxidative contaminant in ozonated water and bakery products, induces multi-mechanistic hepatotoxicity. Its epigenetic, necroptotic, and metabolic injury dimensions remain poorly characterized. Morin (MOR), a dietary flavonoid with established antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, has not previously been evaluated against PB-induced subacute hepatotoxicity. To characterize MOR's hepatoprotective mechanisms against PB-induced liver injury, focusing on the HOTAIR/MEG3-miRNA epigenetic axis, STAT1-associated RIPK3/MLKL necroptotic signaling, and Glut2/HPGD-AKT/mTOR metabolic signaling. Male Sprague-Dawley rats (n = 28) were assigned to Control, MOR (100 mg/kg), PB (62 mg/kg), and PB + MOR groups for 14 days. Outcomes included hepatobiliary biochemistry, oxidative stress markers, inflammatory mediators (ELISA), lncRNA/miRNA/mRNA profiling (RT-qPCR), immunohistochemistry (RIPK3, MLKL), double immunofluorescence (Glut2/AKT1; HPGD/mTOR), histopathology, and PCA. PB produced marked redox imbalance (up arrow MDA; down arrow SOD, CAT, GPx), NF-kappa B/NLRP3-associated inflammatory mediator elevation, epigenetic disruption (up arrow HOTAIR, down arrow MEG3; up arrow miR-125b-5p/down arrow BCL2L2; down arrow miR-214-5p/up arrow SMAD4), upregulation of STAT1-associated necroptosis-related transcripts and proteins (up arrow RIPK1/RIPK3/MLKL), and metabolic dysfunction (down arrow Glut2, down arrow HPGD; up arrow AKT1/mTOR). MOR restored redox balance, suppressed inflammation, and reprogrammed the miRNA axis while normalizing MLKL (transcript and immunohistochemistry) and AKT1 and partially attenuating RIPK3, mTOR, and STAT1. MOR confers multi-targeted hepatoprotection by restoring redox and metabolic homeostasis, attenuating NF-kappa B/NLRP3-associated inflammation, reprogramming HOTAIR/MEG3-miRNA epigenetics, and attenuating STAT1-associated RIPK3/MLKL signaling, supporting its potential as a dietary hepatoprotective candidate. PB is associated with engagement of the hepatic STAT1/RIPK3/MLKL axis and disrupts the HOTAIR/MEG3-miRNA network-both previously undocumented for this toxicant. MOR partially restores miR-214-5p/miR-466 expression while suppressing their downstream effector SMAD4, consistent with attenuation of pro-fibrotic signaling. Future work should employ multi-dose designs, in vitro mechanistic dissection, sex-stratified analyses, and clinical pharmacokinetic profiling to advance MOR toward translational application.

Exploring the role of rare earth elements doped TiO₂ based photoanodes on the performance of dye-sensitized solar cells

Caliskan, Berrak; Sayan, Enes; Igman, Erdal

This study investigates the synthesis and characterization of rare earth elements (REEs) doped TiO₂ thin films based photoanodes for use in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). For this purpose, TiO₂ films were doped with Ho³⁺, La³⁺, Er³⁺, and Yb³⁺ ions to enhance photoelectrochemical properties. Characterization techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), UV-Vis spectroscopy, BET surface area analysis, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were employed for the structural, morphological, and optical characterization of the synthesized photoanodes and CEs. REEs doping improved the surface morphology and optical properties of TiO₂, in particular, it increased photon absorption in the visible light range. La³⁺ and Ho³⁺ significantly improved photovoltaic performance, achieving power conversion efficiencies of 3.78% and 2.87%, respectively, compared to that of pure TiO₂. These enhancements indicate improved charge transport and light harvesting due to incorporation of REEs. Additionally, replacing the conventional platinum counter electrode (CE) with reduced graphene oxide (rGO) further enhanced performance, offering a low-cost and efficient alternative. The study highlights the combined benefits of REEs doping and rGO integration in improving DSSCs efficiency. These findings contribute to the development of more sustainable, cost-effective solar energy technologies and underline the potential of REEs-doped TiO₂ films and rGO electrodes in advancing next-generation photovoltaic devices.

Comparative investigation of composite-metal lap joints with mono-adhesive and thermoplastic-reinforced mixed adhesive at elevated temperatures

Erbayrak, Engin; Eker, Beril; Colak, Murat

This study primarily examines the strength of a single lap joint having a mixed adhesive overlap consisting of a single adhesive and its thermoplastic reinforced state under varying temperatures. In the single lap joint, Titanium-Boron reinforced A356 aluminum was employed as the metal adherend, while plain woven glass fiber-reinforced epoxy (GFRE) was employed as the composite adherend. In the application of the mixed adhesive overlap, the brittle adhesives were employed in the middle section of the lap joint, while the reinforcement of the thermoplastics was employed on the adhesives at both sides of the lap joint. The single lap joints were subjected to tensile tests at 1 mm/min loading rates under room temperature and 120 °C, which is the melting point of the copolyester. In the numerical analysis, the cohesive zone model was applied in order to define the adhesives; however, elastic isotropic and orthotropic material behaviors were employed for the metal and composite adherends, respectively. Eventually, it is determined that the strength of a mixed adhesive lap joint consisting of a single adhesive and its thermoplastic reinforced state is better than a lap joint made with the mono-adhesive alone. Although literature suggests that mixed adhesive overlaps can be formed using at least two different adhesives (one ductile and one brittle), this study demonstrated that a mixed adhesive zone can be created using a single adhesive and thermoplastic reinforcement.

Policy factors affecting international sporting success in Turkey from the perspective of the SPLISS model

    Ersöz, G.; Kan, M.E.; Yenilmez, M. Ince; Kantar, G.

In recent years, research on elite sport policies has mainly focused on systems in Europe, North America and Australia. This study represents the first qualitative analysis of Turkey within the framework of the SPLISS model, aiming to fill the regional gap in the literature and offer original contributions regarding the model’s cultural and structural adaptability. In this context, the study aims to analyse the policy factors affecting international sporting success in Turkey. A total of 15 individuals–five athletes, five coaches and five sports managers–aged between 21 and 51 and actively involved in sport, participated in the study. A semi-structured interview technique was used, with questions prepared from the SPLISS model perspective, and the data were analysed using content analysis. The findings reveal that financial support for sport in Turkey is inadequate, there is no merit-based system in sports governance, the limited hours and content of physical education classes in schools reduce participation in sport, career support for athletes is insufficient, talent identification projects are dysfunctional, coach education has significant shortcomings and there is a lack of collaboration between sport science researchers and practitioners. The study indicates that Turkey’s sports policies require comprehensive restructuring through reforms in several areas, including equitable financial support, merit-based governance, enhanced collaboration and coordination among sport institutions, long-term strategic planning, strengthening school-based sport, sustainable career support for athletes and fostering stronger cooperation between researchers and practitioners in sport sciences.

Development and characterization of postbiotic-enriched biodegradable films with antifungal activity for tomato storage

Kaya, Yasemin; İspirli, Hümeyra; Bozkurt, Fatih; Sağdıç, Osman; Şengül, Mustafa; Dertli, Enes

BACKGROUND: One of the major contributors to postharvest losses in tomatoes is the development of infectious mold diseases. In this study, four distinct biodegradable film formulations were developed incorporating postbiotics derived from Lactiplantibacillus plantarum Y48 and the polysaccharide alternan. The formulations included alternan, sodium alginate and glycerol (AAG), alternan, postbiotic, sodium alginate and glycerol (APAG), postbiotic, sodium alginate and glycerol (PAG), and sodium alginate and glycerol (AG) as a control. The films were characterized in terms of their physical, mechanical, thermal, and morphological properties. To assess antifungal efficacy, tomatoes artificially inoculated with Alternaria alternata were coated with each film and stored at ambient temperature for 8 days. RESULTS: The incorporation of alternan and postbiotics enhanced both the mechanical strength and thermal stability of the films. Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) analysis confirmed the successful integration of the bioactive components into the polymer matrix. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) imaging revealed that postbiotic addition contributed to a rougher and more rigid surface morphology, while alternan improved the structural cohesion of the films. All film formulations exhibited significant inhibitory effects against A. alternata, with the PAG formulation demonstrating the most pronounced antifungal activity. CONCLUSION: These results suggest that the PAG film, enriched with postbiotics, represents a promising biocontrol strategy for mitigating fungal spoilage in tomatoes. In conclusion, this study underscores the potential of combining postbiotics and alternan for the development of active, biodegradable edible films with antifungal functionality for postharvest preservation.

A NIKOM-Based Conceptual Framework for Spiritual Counseling Services in Turkey: Toward an Intervention Model

    Çinici, Murat

Spiritual counseling has expanded rapidly in Turkiye over the past two decades. Hospitals, prisons, family guidance offices, eldercare facilities, disaster-response systems, and addiction recovery programs now host spiritual counselors as part of routine care. The methodological foundation of these services, however, remains underdeveloped. Using a conceptual review and theoretical integration approach, this article proposes—but does not empirically test—a framework that links spiritual counseling practice in Turkiye to the Intention Code Model (NIKOM), a recently formulated cognitive model that conceptualizes mental life through if–then schemas (codes), their activation, and their alignment with bodily systems. The article reviews the institutional landscape of spiritual counseling in Turkiye, situates NIKOM among adjacent cognitive models, and shows how core Islamic concepts—tawakkul, ṣabr, shukr, tawba, and dhikr—can be interpreted as functions relevant to counseling practice. A standardized five-stage intervention template is proposed and applied to six service domains. The article closes by offering five testable propositions, considering ethical limits, and articulating concrete referral criteria. The proposed framework is theoretically grounded and empirically testable; clinical efficacy is not claimed.

Enhanced freshwater production in prism-type solar stills using a fresnel lens system with comprehensive energy-exergy and cost analysis

Ceviz, Mehmet Akif; Köksal, Hüseyin; Afshari, Faraz; Muratçobanoğlu, Burak

This study presents the development and performance evaluation of a novel prism-type solar still integrated with a Fresnel lens concentration system designed to concentrate solar radiation on an external spiral heat exchanger. Experimental investigations were conducted under two different saline water flow rates of 0.05 and 0.1 kg/min. The performance of system was comprehensively analyzed in terms of fresh water yield, thermal efficiency, exergy efficiency, and economic viability. The heated saline water and resultant vapor were directed into the prism-shaped condensation chamber, where condensation occurred efficiently. The experimental results demonstrated that lower saline water flow rates led to higher water temperatures and enhanced evaporation rates, thereby increasing freshwater productivity. In contrast, higher flow rates resulted in greater accumulation of saline water within the basin, reducing the evaporation rate and thus lowering overall productivity. The proposed design uniquely combines geometric enhancement via a prism-shaped condensation chamber with solar concentration through a Fresnel lens, enabling a dual-effect improvement in energy absorption and condensation efficiency, an approach not previously reported in the literature for solar desalination systems. The system achieved thermal and exergy efficiencies of 22.95 and 15.50%, respectively, at a saline water flow rate of 0.05 kg/min, producing 92 g of clean water in 60 min. Furthermore, the cost analysis conducted indicated a cost of $0.2546 per liter for this scenario.

Climate-driven synchronization of honey bee flight activity and plant phenology in Türkiye: development of a Beekeeping Climate Suitability Index (BCSI)

    Erdoğan, Yaşar; Erdoğan, Ümmügülsüm

Honey bees (Apis mellifera L.) provide essential pollination services that depend on the temporal synchronization between flight activity and plant flowering phenology, both strongly influenced by climatic conditions. However, this relationship remains insufficiently quantified at large spatial and temporal scales. In this study, we quantified climate-driven honey bee flight activity and its alignment with flowering phenology of major nectar plants in Türkiye using ERA5-Land data for the period 1981–2023. Suitable flight days were defined based on temperature (≥12°C) and precipitation (0 mm), and seasonal suitability was evaluated at a monthly scale. A composite Beekeeping Climate Suitability Index (BCSI) was developed by integrating flight activity, flowering overlap and nectar flow window. The number of suitable flight periods ranged between 4 and 7 months (mean ≈5.5), indicating substantial interannual variability. Flight flowering synchrony was low for early-spring species (23–35%) but reached 100% for summer species. BCSI values ranged from 0.44 to 1.00, capturing variability in climatic suitability for beekeeping. These findings demonstrate that climatic variability plays a decisive role in shaping bee plant interactions and provide a quantitative basis for climate-informed beekeeping management.
