Global Financial Architecture Under Geopolitical, Financial and Policy Pressures: A Capacity-Pressure Index of Financial Resilience

    Kuzu, Mehmet; Kocaoglu, Fatih

Financial resilience depends on both prevailing pressures and the resources available to maintain financial functions. This study proposes a Global Financial Resilience Index (GFRI) that combines selected structural indicators with the inverse of geopolitical, policy, and market pressures. The formal retrospective sample covers January 2000-June 2026; July-August extensions are reported separately. Fixed-reference standardisation and geometric aggregation produce a transparent capacity-pressure composite, not a measure of environmental, social or intergenerational sustainability. Fixed-basket comparisons retain some capacity improvement, but a balanced five-indicator panel covers only 20 economies and 12.4-16.0% of global GDP. Country selection and calibration alter the pandemic-era ranking. The OECD growth-cycle mean difference is -8.30 points with HAC(12) p = 0.055. Classification AUC is 0.658, with a 12-month block-bootstrap 95% interval of 0.468-0.821, and does not improve on matched stress benchmarks. The incremental explanatory power of industrial production is negligible. Weight simulations and publication-lag tests reveal uncertainty in material construction. The index offers a reproducible description of selected capacity and pressure conditions; the evidence does not support operational policy bands, superior crisis prediction or comprehensive sustainability claims.

ECONOMIC POLICY UNCERTAINTY AND HOUSING INVESTMENTS: AN EMPIRICAL VAR ANALYSIS FOR THE EURO AREA (EA-19)

Tunçay, Cenap Mengu; Akar, Nuri Cagri

The housing sector is considered one of the key factors of macroeconomic fluctuations. Consequently, analyzing the scale of housing investments within economies and identifying the primary drivers influencing these investments is of major importance. Since one of the variables determining investments is uncertainty, and housing investments are affected by uncertainty, it is important to determine to what extent uncertainty has an impact on housing investments. While many studies have examined the effect of uncertainty on housing prices and returns, the effect on housing investments has rarely been discussed. The dynamic impact of Economic Policy Uncertainty (EPU) on housing investments remains nearly unmentioned in the Euro Area-19 (EA-19). According to Real Options Theory, uncertainty leads to investment delays. If this relationship holds for the housing market, new construction investments should fluctuate in response to uncertainty, meaning that dwellings, which can serve as a proxy indicator for housing investments, may be affected by uncertainty. Therefore, this study investigates the relationship between the Europe-wide EPU Index and the EA-19 Dwellings Index by using monthly data (1994 M2-2023 M8). In the literature, this study is the first article to investigate the dynamic relationship between EPU and housing investments for EA-19 by performing Vector Autoregression (VAR) analysis. Based on the VAR analysis, the EPU index produces virtually no statistically significant effect on the dwellings index in the EA-19, although a unidirectional Granger causality from EPU to housing investment is detected. Based on this result, it is also possible to claim that political uncertainties in the EA-19 may not be one of the reasons for economic fluctuations due to housing investments. This study contributes to further research in this field, as it is the first study analyzing the effect of EPU on housing investments in the EA-19.

    Yİ-DARBOUX SLANT HELICES ON SURFACES

Tosun, Ceyda; Kocayigit, Huseyin; Aydin, Tuba agirman

In this study, a new class of surface curves, namely Yi-Darboux slant helices, is investigated. The conditions under which a surface curve is a iY-Darboux slant helix with respect to the Osculating Darboux (OD), Normal Darboux (ND), and Rectifying Darboux (RD) frames are established, and several characterizations are obtained. In particular, necessary and sufficient conditions are derived in terms of the curvature functions associated with these frames. Furthermore, relationships between iY-Darboux slant helices and classical helices and slant helices are established for special surface curves, including geodesics, asymptotic curves, and lines of curvature. Concrete examples on conical and cylindrical surfaces are also presented to illustrate the theoretical results.

The Role of the Amālfi Qasida in the Transmission of Māturfidfi Thought and Its Classıcısm

    Sever, Mehmet

This article analyzes the role of Ab & umacr;'l-Hasan `Al & imacr; al-& Umacr;sh & imacr;'s (d. 575/1179) Em & amacr;l & imacr; Qasida (al-Qas & imacr;dat al-l & amacr;miyya / Bad'al-Am & amacr;l & imacr;) in the transmission and canonization of M & amacr;tur & imacr;d & imacr; thought within the Ahl al-Sunnah tradition. Although Maturidism was systematized by Im & amacr;m M & amacr;tur & imacr;d & imacr; (d. 333/944) in the Hanaf & imacr; intellectual environment of Transoxiana, the survival of only a limited portion of his works meant that the school's doctrines were carried mainly by later scholars and concise didactic texts. Among these, the Em & amacr;l & imacr; Qasida became one of the most effective instruments for teaching, memorizing, and stabilizing M & amacr;tur & imacr;d & imacr; creed across centuries and regions. The study situates the Em & amacr;l & imacr; within the broader M & amacr;tur & imacr;d & imacr; textual heritage, alongside major works such as Hak & imacr;m al-Samarqand & imacr;'s al-Saw & amacr;d al-a`zam, Ab & umacr;'l-Mu`& imacr;n al-Nasaf & imacr;'s al-Tamh & imacr;d and al-Tabsira, al-S & amacr;b & umacr;n & imacr;'s al-Bid & amacr;ya and al-Kif & amacr;ya, and `Umar al-Nasaf & imacr;'s al-`Aq & amacr;'id. While these extensive treatises provide systematic theological exposition, the Em & amacr;l & imacr; offers, in 67 verses, a tightly structured summary of core doctrines. It addresses themes such as divine unity and attributes, the createdness of the Qur'& amacr;n, ru'yat All & amacr;h, human acts and divine justice, prophecy and miracles, the virtues of the Rightly Guided Caliphs, the status of the Companions, the nature of faith and takf & imacr;r, death, resurrection, and eschatology. Its allusive use of had & imacr;th material reflects al-& Umacr;sh & imacr;'s training as a traditionist and reinforces the poem's pedagogical utility. The text also preserves the polemical voice of the Samarqand-based Hanafi-M & amacr;turidi tradition, especially in its criticisms of Mu'tazili positions. The article employs historical-textual analysis combined with a reception-history approach. By examining commentaries, glosses, and translations in Arabic, Ottoman Turkish, Persian, and Urdu, and by identifying the geographical origins of commentators, the study reconstructs the poem's diffusion from Central Asia to Syria, Egypt, Anatolia, the Balkans, and the Indian subcontinent. The Ottoman period emerges as a crucial phase in which the Em & amacr;li became widely taught, memorized, and commented upon. In particular, its inclusion in the curricula of the reformed D & amacr;r & uuml;'l-Hil & acirc;fe madrasas as the introductory text for teaching tawhid illustrates its institutionalized role as a representative statement of M & amacr;turidi creed. Based on this reconstruction, the article argues that the Em & amacr;li Qasida functioned not only as a concise catechism but also as a canonical marker of M & amacr;turidi identity. Its constant reproduction, commentary, and even polemical modification by opponents signal that it achieved the status of a classic-a text perceived as indispensable for the articulation of Hanafi-M & amacr;turidi orthodoxy. The commentary tradition shows how different regions and periods reinterpreted the same core text, thus revealing both continuity and controlled adaptation within the M & amacr;turidi intellectual world. In conclusion, the article suggests that the Em & amacr;li Qasida remains essential for understa As a concise yet richly layered doctrinal text with a vast commentary tradition, it offers a coherent entry point for re-establishing a foundational M & amacr;turidi canon within contemporary studies of the History of Islamic Sects.

Comparison of Eating Behaviours, Anthropometric Measures, and Malnutrition Risk in Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder and Other Developmental Disabilities

Esgin, Ozge; Ari-Arat, Ceren; Yilmaz, Gulsum; Hamitoglu, Aysun

Purpose This study examined differences in eating behaviours, anthropometric indicators, and malnutrition risk among children aged 5-16 years with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other developmental disabilities (DD), including Down syndrome, developmental language disorder, and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Methods This study was carried out using a cross-sectional design and included 220 children attending special education and rehabilitation centres: 97 autistic children (girls: 26, boys: 71) and 123 children with other developmental disabilities (DD; girls: 44, boys: 79). The DD group comprised children with Down syndrome (n = 52, 42.3%), developmental language disorder (n = 58, 47.2%), and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD; n = 13, 10.6%). Results Autistic children differed from children with other developmental disabilities in both growth patterns and eating behaviour profiles. Height-for-age z-scores were higher in children with ASD than in those with Down syndrome (DS) and developmental language disorder (DLD) (p=.01). Autistic children showed higher Food Fussiness scores than children with DS (p<.05). Associations between eating behaviours and BMI-for-age varied according to diagnostic group (all interaction p<.05). In other developmental disability groups, eating behaviours also varied according to BMI-for-age categories and malnutrition risk (p<.05). Among autistic children, malnutrition risk was associated with higher Food Responsiveness and Slowness in Eating scores (p<.05). Conclusion This study showed that eating behaviours, anthropometric measurements, and malnutrition risk vary among children with ASD and diagnostically distinct developmental disability subgroups, underscoring the importance of individualised, diagnosis-informed nutritional assessment and monitoring.

Reading comprehension self-efficacy and mathematical problem-solving in primary education: a serial mediation model through mathematical reasoning and critical thinking

    Filiz, Tunahan; Kaplan, Kadir

Introduction Mathematical problem-solving is fundamental for academic success and real-life challenges and involves more than procedural and computational skills. As most primary school mathematics problems are text-based, reading comprehension self-efficacy may be closely associated with students' performance in mathematical problem-solving. Grounded in Albert Bandura's social cognitive theory, this study examined the associations between reading comprehension self-efficacy and mathematical problem-solving, focusing on the sequential indirect associations involving of mathematical reasoning and critical thinking. Methods A quantitative, correlational research design was employed. The sample consisted of 518 fourth-grade students from 14 provinces across seven regions of T & uuml;rkiye. Data were collected using validated scales measuring reading comprehension self-efficacy, critical thinking, mathematical reasoning, and mathematical problem-solving skills. Data were analyzed using correlation analysis and regression-based mediation analysis. Results The findings revealed that mathematical reasoning and critical thinking partially accounted for the association between reading comprehension self-efficacy and mathematical problem-solving. The findings indicated significant indirect effects through critical thinking skills (beta = 0.18, K2 = 0.23), mathematical reasoning skills (beta = 0.04, K2 = 0.19), and the sequential pathway from mathematical reasoning to critical thinking (beta = 0.01, K2 = 0.03). Although the sequential mediation effect was statistically significant, its effect size was relatively small compared with the individual mediation effects, particularly that of critical thinking skills.Discussion These results highlight the interconnected roles of foundational cognitive processes in relation to higher-order mathematical problem-solving skills. The study contributes to the literature by emphasizing the relevance of considering reading comprehension self-efficacy, mathematical reasoning, and critical thinking as interconnected factors in early mathematics education.

Asymmetric Nexus Between Gold and Bitcoin: New Evidence from Hidden Cointegration Approach

    Yildiz, Umit

The main objective of this study is to investigate the symmetric and asymmetric linkages between gold, a traditional investment instrument, and Bitcoin, often referred to as the digital gold of cryptocurrencies, and to determine their direction and magnitude. Forthis purpose, the study examines cointegration relationships amongthe variables using weekly data from January 2, 2022, to April 5, 2026. According to the Engle & Granger (1987) cointegration test, there is no long-term relationship between the variables. However, the Granger &Yoon (2002) hidden cointegration test determined hidden cointegration relationships from the gold's positive components to the Bitcoin's positive components and from the Bitcoin's positive components to the gold's negative components. Subsequently, longterm coefficients are estimated using FMOLS, DOLS, and CCR estimators. The results show that a 1% increase in gold's positive shocks leads to approximately a 0.92%-0.95% decrease in Bitcoin's positive shocks. A 1% increase in Bitcoin's positive shocks results in approximately a 0.08%-0.10% increase in gold's negative shocks. The estimation results show that increases in gold prices significantly constrain the rise in Bitcoin prices, but the impact of Bitcoin price increases on gold price decreases remains limited. Finally, the findings demonstrate that gold's market-making capacity as a traditional investment vehicle is stronger than that of modern financial investment vehicles.

Analyzing IPO Performance on Borsa Istanbul: A Hybrid Econometric and Machine Learning Framework (2013-2025)

    Ayberkin, Doruk

This study examines the determinants of the performance of initial public offerings (IPOs) conducted by 237 firms across 38 sectors on the Istanbul Stock Exchange between 2013 and 2025, using a hybrid analytical framework. To analyze the impact of sector characteristics, firm-level financial indicators, supply structure, and market timing on the returns of USD-denominated IPOs, this study combines heteroskedasticity-resistant ordinary least squares (OLS) regression with tree-based ensemble machine learning algorithms (random forest, XGBoost) and benchmark models (support vector regression, artificial neural network). The distributional characteristics of returns from IPOs highlight the use of nonlinear modelling techniques characterized by high positive skewness (5.12) and excess kurtosis (45.24). Our findings reveal significant sectoral heterogeneity. According to the findings, the Financial Services and Fisheries sectors showed statistically significant superior performance, while the Metal Mining, Insurance, and Construction sectors underperformed. Transportation and Storage exhibited the highest point estimate but did not reach conventional significance levels. The XGBoost machine learning model, with an R 2 of 0.869 and a mean absolute error (MAE) of 17.87, achieved superior single-split prediction accuracy compared to the OLS method, which yielded an R 2 of 0.220. However, cross-validation analyses indicated that all models exhibited limited out-of-sample generalizability (best CV R 2 = 0.04). The Diebold-Mariano test, conducted to compare prediction performance, confirmed that the artificial neural network (ANN) model provided a statistically significant improvement over the OLS method (DM = 2.121, p = 0.034). The SHAP value analysis used in the models reveals how each feature affects the final predictions, the relative importance of each feature, and the model's dependence on feature interactions. It identifies the IPO price (USD), the USD/TRY exchange rate, and the size of the supply as the most effective estimators with economically significant nonlinear interactions. The study aims to demonstrate the comparative advantages and limitations of ensemble learning under abnormal financial data conditions by presenting detailed sectoral evidence across 38 sectors. In this way, it aims to contribute to the IPO literature in emerging market economies by offering viable policy recommendations for investors, issuers, and regulators in Turkish capital markets.

    Ari, Sinan

In this study, in which the perceptions of artificial intelligence of primary school teachers and the use of artificial intelligence in the life science course were examined, explanatory sequential design, one of the mixed research methods, was used. While 318 primary school teachers took part in the quantitative dimension of the study, 15 primary school teachers took part in the qualitative dimension. Artificial intelligence perception scale was used in the quantitative dimension of the study, and a semistructured interview form prepared by the researcher was used in the qualitative dimension. At the end of the study, it was determined that the perceptions of primary school teachers about artificial intelligence were generally positive, according to the graduation status variable, the teaching and learning perceptions of postgraduate teachers about artificial intelligence were higher, there was a significant difference in favor of women according to the gender variable, and in terms of seniority variable, the perceptions of teachers with 1-5 years of experience about artificial intelligence were higher. It has been revealed that primary school teachers can use artificial intelligence applications in all learning areas in the curriculum and that they use these applications mostly to create studentcentered and interactive learning environments. At the end of the research, postgraduate and in-service trainings on artificial intelligence were recommended for primary school teachers.

Seasonal and Meteorological Variability of Total Suspended Particulate Matter (TSP) in the Semi-Urban Atmosphere of Bayburt: An Integrated Assessment Based on OpenAir, PCA, and HYSPLIT

Paloluoglu, Cihan; Akmese Tarlan, Yasemin; Bayar, Serkan

In this study, atmospheric Total Suspended Particulate Matter (TSP) concentrations in a semi-urban area of Bayburt Province were evaluated in terms of seasonal variation, temporal behavior with meteorological factors, and air-mass transport characteristics. TSP sampling was conducted using the active sampling method over 118 days during the cold and warm-seasons sampling campaign of 2022. A high-volume air sampler (HVAS) and glass fiber filters (GFFs) were used, and TSP concentrations were determined gravimetrically. The mean TSP concentration was 29.13 +/- 29.39 & micro;g/m(3) in cold-season sampling campaign and 43.69 +/- 27.62 & micro;g/m(3) in warm-season sampling campaign. According to standard tests, the seasonal difference was nominally statistically significant (p < 0.05; Cohen's d approximate to 0.51; Cliff's delta approximate to 0.38). However, this significance did not persist after adjusting for serial autocorrelation in the AR(1) model (p = 0.151). However, this comparison should be interpreted not as validated seasonal climatological data, but as a comparison between intermittent sampling studies conducted within a single calendar year. This is because the transition period from spring to summer was not included in the sampling, and the studies were not repeated from year to year. OpenAir analyses showed that high TSP concentrations were particularly associated with easterly and southerly airflows. No clear weekday/weekend difference was observed, although episodic increases occurred on several days. The first two principal components explained 77.8% of the total variance, while the high TSP loading on PC3 indicated complementary variability. NOAA-HYSPLIT backward air-mass trajectory analyses indicated regional transport pathways in most high-TSP episodes, whereas local atmospheric stagnation was prominent in one episode. Overall, the findings show that TSP variability in semi-urban areas should be evaluated together with seasonal-meteorological variability, potential local emission effects, and regional air-mass transport.

Improvement of machine learning-based diabetes diagnosis via resampling techniques

Yapici, Irem Senyer; Arslan, Rukiye Uzun; Engin, Mustafa Alptekin

The objective of this study is to enhance the accuracy of diabetes diagnosis through the utilisation of machine learning techniques and resampling methods. The imbalanced nature of diabetes datasets presents a significant challenge for traditional classification algorithms, which often struggle to accurately predict results. In order to enhance the efficacy of the model, a comparative analysis was conducted to assess the performance of a range of over-sampling and under-sampling techniques, including SMOTE, ADASYN, Borderline SMOTE, SVM SMOTE, Random Under Sampler, Near Miss, One Sided Selection, Neighbourhood Cleaning Rule, Edited Nearest Neighbours, Instance Hardness Threshold, AllKNN and Tomek Links. The aforementioned techniques were then applied to the Decision Tree, Random Forest, K-Nearest Neighbours, AdaBoost, Extra Tree Classifier, and machine learning classifiers, and their performance was evaluated using the accuracy, recall, precision, F-Score, and AUC-ROC performance metrics. The SVMSMOTE resampling technique was identified as the most successful method, achieving 99.06% accuracy when used in combination with the decision tree classifier. The findings demonstrate that the incorporation of resampling techniques markedly enhances diagnostic proficiency and yields more dependable forecasts. This research makes a significant contribution to the field of medical informatics, providing a robust framework for diabetes diagnosis and offering valuable insights into the application of machine learning healthcare.
