Balci, Murat; Gündogdu, Omer
In this study, some physical properties of a laminated composite beam were estimated by using the inverse vibration problem method. Laminated composite plate was modeled and simulated to obtain vibration responses for different length-to-thickness ratios in ANSYS. A numerical model of the laminated composite beam with unknown parameters was also developed using a two-dimensional finite element model by utilizing the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. Then, these two models were embedded into the optimization program to form the objective function to be minimized using genetic algorithms. After minimizing the squared difference of the natural frequencies from these two models, the unknown parameters of the laminated composite beam were found. It is observed in this study that the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory suppositions approximated the real results with a rate of %0.026 error as the thickness of the beam got thinner. The estimated values were finally compared with the expected values and a very good correspondence was observed.

Erdem, Suat
In the Islamic Law, Iddet means the disappearence of the marriage principles with the ending of the marriage because of any reasons and the time must be waited for another marrige by the woman. Iddet can be classified in two with regard of the causes of the action giving rise the divorce as the iddet of divorce and death, and it also can be subjected to a classification for the time of iddet as menstruation, pregnance and periodical iddet. As it is impossible to make a marriage proposal to a woman who is waiting the time of iddet directly or indirectly, there is an agreement on the subject of the impossibility of making a marriage proposal to a woman directly. As it is not possible to make a marriage proposal to a woman waiting iddet of death directly, an indirect proposal is possible only with an agreement. There is an agreement among the Islamic Lawyers on the subject of canceling the marriage which has taken place notwithstanding the ban, but the agreement isn't available about the marrige of the same couple after the time of iddet.

An effective, simple, low cost and accurate sorption-spectrophotometric platform for the extractions and subsequent quantifications of Cd(II) and Pb(II) ions in food and environmental samples has been described in this dissertation. The separation and preconcentration of the analyte ions were accomplished by solid phase extraction method based on the adsorption of their N-(4-methylphenyl)-2-{[(4-phenyl-5-pyridin-4-yl-4H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl)thio] acetyl} hydrazinecarbothioamide (MFPTAHK) complex on Amberlite XAD-8 resin in a mini column. The developed method was systematically investigated in different set of experimental parameters that influence the separation and preconcentration of Cd(II) and Pb(II) ions. The precision of the method was determined by reproducibility studies and expressed as relative standard deviations (RSD %) which were less than 4% for both analyte ions. The limits of detections (LODs) for Cd(II) and Pb(II) ions based on the three times the standard deviation of the blanks (N:10) were found to be 0. 31 ?g L-1 and 0. 86 ?g L-1, respectively. The developed SPE procedure was utilized for the simultaneous extraction and determinations of Cd(II) and Pb(II) ions levels in rice, cracked wheat and red lentil as food samples and various water samples.

(Graph Presented) The 2-amino-4-chloro-6-methoxypyrimidine abbreviated as ACMP have been investigated by both the experimental and theoretical methods; through this work we provide the essential fact about the structural and vibrational insights. The optimized molecular structure, atomic charges, vibrational frequencies and ultraviolet spectral interpretation of ACMP have been studied by performing DFT/B3LYP/6-311++G(df,pd) level of theory. The FT-IR, FT-Raman spectra were recorded in the region 4000-400 cm -1 and 4000-50 cm-1 respectively. The UV absorption spectrum of the compound that dissolved in ethanol and water solution were recorded in the range of 200-400 nm. The scaled wavenumbers are compared with the experimental values. The difference between the observed and scaled wavenumber values of most of the fundamentals is very small. Based on the UV spectrum and TD-DFT calculations, the electronic structure and the assignments of the absorption bands were carried out. The 1H, 13C and DEPT 135 nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) chemical shifts of the molecule were calculated using with the Gauge Including Atomic Orbital (GIAO) method and compared with experimental results. Besides, molecular electrostatic potential (MEP), frontier molecular orbitals (FMO) analysis were investigated using theoretical calculations.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2013Scopus SJRQ1Reference-plane invariant transmission-reflection method for measurement of constitutive parameters of liquid materials
Hasar, Ugur Cem; Barroso, Joaquim José; Kaya, Yunus; Ertugrul, Mehmet; Bute, Musa
We propose a new transmission-reflection method for measuring constitutive parameters of liquid samples inside an asymmetric measurement cell (a sample over a low-loss holder in vertical position inside an empty waveguide section). We derived reference-plane invariant expressions for constitutive parameters measurement of liquid samples from reference-plane dependent scattering parameters. In addition, we also applied a simple approach for unique determination of transformation factor and reference-plane distances. After, we also investigated how the performance of the proposed method could be improved by performing a differential uncertainty analysis. From this analysis, we found the following key results: (a) the accuracy of the proposed method could be enhanced for low-loss liquid samples by using thicker samples, and (b) the effect of constitutive parameters and the length of the (low-loss) sample holder on constitutive parameters measurements of liquid samples by the proposed method is a key parameter in increasing the accuracy of the measurements. Finally, we performed constitutive parameter measurements of distilled water and methanol to validate the proposed method and compared the proposed method with similar methods in the literature. From the measurements, we note that our method is especially useful for liquid sample measurements when the reference-plane transformation factors are not known a priori and/or if the measurements are carried out over a high frequency range.

Sert, Durmus; Aygun, Ali; Torlak, Emrah; Mercan, Emin
Backround: In this study, hen eggs which were experimentally contaminated with Esherichia coli ATCC 25922 were used. Contaminated eggs were washed statically (S5 to S30; 0 kHz) and by ultrasonic waves (U5 to U30; 35 kHz) for given applications of time (5, 15 and 30 min), then the eggs were stored at 22°C for 14 days. Results: Depending on the time of ultrasonic application, a significant increase in egg shell strength (P < 0.01) was recorded. The highest value of the Haugh unit (67.93, 1 day) was observed on the eggs which were washed by ultrasonic waves. Yolk width values of ultrasonic washed eggs diminished. E. coli was completely removed by 30 min of ultrasonic application. During storage E. coli growth was not detected on the eggs which were washed by ultrasonic waves except the eggs in U5 group (2.04 log CFU eggshell-1) on the first day of storage. Conclusion: Depending on the time of ultrasonic application a significant increase in egg quality parameters (shell strength, albumen height, Haugh units, and yolk height) were observed. The application of ultrasound led to a significant reduction in E. coli numbers on egg shells.

The diffraction mechanism is used for field prediction in both light and shadowed regions. Slope and amplitude diffraction coefficients are vital to predict the field strength at the receiver accurately. In this paper, amplitude and slope diffraction coefficients for one of the ray theoretical models, the slope uniform theory of diffraction with convex hull (S-UTD-CH) model, are analyzed. Moreover, diffraction coefficients are given for knife-edge and wedge structures.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2013Scopus SJRQ1Comparison of the effects of different types of tube inserts on two-phase flow instabilities
Omeroglu, Gokhan; Çomaklý, Omer; Karagoz, Sendogan; Karsli, Suleyman
Turbulence promoting inner elements such as rings, wings or winglets, twisted tapes, etc., is widely used in single- and two-phase flows. In this experimental work, the two-phase flow instabilities of forced convection boiling in a horizontal tube with ring- and twisted-tape-type inner elements inside are investigated. In order to analyze the two-phase flow of water, the experiments were conducted under a constant system pressure of 7.5 bar, and a constant heat input of 24 kW was applied to the outer surface of the circular test pipe with constant exit restriction. Three different inlet temperatures (Ti = 15, 25, and 35°C) were used to see the effect of inlet sub-cooling, and the mass flow rate was decreased from 110 to 20 g/s to obtain the characteristic curve. Two different pitch ratios for both the ring and twisted tape were evaluated in terms of stability. The results were evaluated in terms of appropriate variables for both the tube with insertions and the smooth tube. The analysis shows that the pressure drop increases with decreasing mass flow rate for all cases. The presence of the inner elements in the test pipe causes the boundaries of the oscillations to narrow in comparison with smooth tube. On the other hand, with the increase in the effective diameter of the test pipe the boundaries of the oscillations broaden. For each type of insertion, the increase of the pitch ratio makes the system less stable.

Cinar, Mehmet; Yildiz, Nihat; Karabacak, Mehmet; Kurt, Mustafa
The optimized geometrical structure, vibrational and electronic transitions, chemical shifts and nonlinear optical properties of 2-(4-hydroxyphenylazo)benzoic acid (HABA) compound were presented in this study. The ground state geometrical structure and vibrational wavenumbers were carried out by using density functional (DFT/B3LYP) method with 6-311++G(d,p) basis set. The vibrational spectra of title compound were recorded in solid state with FT-IR and FT-Raman spectrometry in the range of 4000-400 cm-1 and 4000-10 cm-1; respectively. The fundamental assignments were done on the basis of the recorded spectra and total energy distribution (TED) of the vibrational modes. The 1H and 13C NMR spectra were recorded in deuterated DMSO solution, and gauge-invariant atomic orbitals (GIAOs) method was used to predict the isotropic chemical shifts. The UV-Vis absorption spectra of the compound were observed in the range of 200-800 nm in ethanol, methanol and water solvents. To investigate the nonlinear optical properties, the polarizability, anisotropy of polarizability and molecular first hyperpolarizability were computed. A detailed description of spectroscopic behaviors of compound was given based on the comparison of experimental measurements and theoretical computations.
