- MakaleAçık Erişim2018Scopus SJRQ1A novel strategy for probiotic bacteria: Ensuring microbial stability of fish fillets using characterized probiotic bacteria-loaded nanofibers
Ceylan, Zafer; Meral, Raciye; Karakaş, Canan Yağmur; Dertli, Enes; Yilmaz, Mustafa Tahsin
Nanoencapsulation of probiotic bacteria (L. rhamnosus) into poly(vinyl alcohol) & sodium alginate-based nanofibers (VSPBe) and also the production of poly(vinyl alcohol) & sodium alginate-based nanofibers (VS) were successfully obtained. VSPBe and VS nanofibers were used to limit the Total Mesophilic Aerobic Bacteria (TMABc), Psychrophilic Bacteria (TPBc) and also Yeast and Mold count (TYMc) growth in the fish fillet. Dispersion stability (ζ potential −6.29 mV and −7.74 mV, for VS and VSPBe, respectively), thermal decomposition (a reduction in mass of VS and VSPBe at temperatures 50 °C, corresponding to <5% and >5%, respectively) and morphological properties of nanofibers (diameters between 60 nm and 580 nm) were revealed by characterization analysis. Microbiological tests demonstrated that VS and VSPBe were effectively delayed the TMABc and TPBc growth in fish fillets up to 38%. However, the antimicrobial effects of nanofibers were not pronounced for TYM growth in the fish fillet. The viability of probiotic bacteria could be provided after electrospinning process and the use of L. rhamnosus-loaded nanofibers for delaying microbial growth in the fish fillets could be evaluated as a natural/novel technique.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2018Scopus SJRQ2A study on the optical, chemical and dielectric properties of PPCIN thin films derived from essential oil compounds using RF plasma polymerisation technique
Bayram, Ozkan; Simsek, Onder
Polymer-based nanostructured films were produced on various substrates using Radio Frequency (RF) plasma polymerization technique from Cinnamaldehyde monomer which is an organic compound. To fabricate polymer thin film, the pressure, the deposition time and RF power were set to 480 mTorr, 30 min and 15, 20 and 30 W, respectively. The effect of RF power on the optical, morphological and chemical properties of thin films were investigated. The optical, morphological and chemical properties were determined by UV–Vis spectroscopy, Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and FTIR spectroscopy, respectively. The average surface roughness of thin films was detected as 5.7 nm, 3.9 nm and 11.7 nm using AFM depending on the increase in RF power. Using FTIR spectroscopy, the chemical structure of the polymer thin films was compared with that of the monomer material, and it was found that the majority of the functional groups belonging to the monomers also appeared in the thin films. Optical band gap of thin films increased with RF power and these values were determined as 2.83 eV, 3.05 eV and 2.98 eV, respectively. The extinction coefficients and refractive indices of the thin films were measured at 500 nm between 0.00183–0.00522 and 2.40–2.78, respectively.

- MakaleYalnız künye2018Scopus SJRQ2Determination of the optical and chemical properties of aniline doped plasma polymerized cineole thin films synthesized at various RF powers
Bayram, Ozkan
Aniline-doped plasma polymerized cineole (PPCin) thin films were produced on glass substrates by plasma polymerization technique under varying Radio Frequency (RF) power levels. PPCin thin films were produced at 30 min deposition time and at 50, 75 and 100 W RF energies. Surface morphologies of pure and aniline-doped PPCin thin films obtained on glass substrates were investigated by AFM. It was found that the average surface roughness of pure PPCin thin films increased from 0.19 to 30.6 nm due to the dopant effect and RF energies. The optical band gap for pure polymer thin film was 3.65 eV, but with the effect of doping, these value was found to be 3.54, 3.29 and 3.93, respectively, with increasing RF energy. The extinction coefficient and refractive indices of PPCin thin films were calculated as between 0.065 and 0.92 and between 1.24 and 1.57 respectively, at the wavelength of 400 nm. Wettability analyzes of PPCin thin films were also determined using the water contact angle (WCA) measurement and all thin films were found to have hydrophilic character.

İncele - MakaleAçık Erişim2017Exergetic Comparison of Single and Double Effect Absorption Cooling Cycles
Karaali, Rabi
Absorption cooling cycles are environmental and can use solar or waste heat for cooling with very small electric power. This workpresents exergy analysis of a double effect parallel flow and single effect absorption cooling systems for comparison. A computerprogram is developed for the thermodynamic properties of lithium bromide-water solutions by the author in FORTRAN codes forthe exergy analysis. The double effect parallel flow absorption systems have better advantages than the single effect absorption system. The coefficient performance (COP) and the exergetic coefficient performance (ECOP) of the double effect parallel flow absorptionsystems are higher than the single cycles. For the double effect cycle COP and ECOP are found as 1.195 and 0.28, and for the singleeffect cycle COP and ECOP are found as 0.68 and 0.23, respectively. For each component the exergy loss and exergy destruction iscalculated. Most of the irreversibilities are found in the evaporator and in the absorber which about 74 % for the double effect, and 72% for the single effect of the total irreversibility. It is concluded that the performance of the evaporator and the absorber is crucial forthe two cycles. Improving and better design of these two components will directly improve and affect positively the working conditionsand the performance of the cycles.

In this research, logistic villages, especially the logistic village, where will be established in Bayburt, have investigated in order to understand to the economic contributions to the city, region and country, and the development and potential development which will be achieved afterwards. With the model proposal of Bayburt logistic village, we have tried to give an idea about the structure and function of the logistic village which will be established to the local and national interlocutors It is also aimed that our work will be inspired to mainly future research about logistics and logistic villages and Bayburt logistics village works and directory direction. Our research İs basically work İnto the world logistics, logistic of Turkey, logistic in the region and logistics in the Bayburt.Bayburt has a duality in the Eastern Black Sea region in terms of its geographical location, but hard continental climate is dominant. When we take Bayburt province center, Erzurum in the east, Gümüşhane and Erzincan in the west; In the north, it is observed that Trabzon and Rize are in a very strategic position. Therefore Bayburt is a very important center in terms of logistics with the use of the transportation conditions in these areas and the finishing of the tunnels which are constantly under construction from the great targets of our country in 2023. In Bayburt province, dry food storage areas can be established as Logistics. In contrast to the black sea climate in the vicinity, the nemo ran is low and it can create an efficient and sheltered storage area. It canalso create an incentive for employment in the region. Also in our study Methodology; After the descriptive analysis, theFit index intervals were examined within the scope of factor analysis,ANOVA analysis and Structural equation model. The H1, H2, H3hypotheses investigated in our study were evaluated within this scope.STRUCTURED ABSTRACT1-IntroductionIn consequence of globalization and rapid developments intechnology, companies have to be able to optimize speed, flexibility, costand consumer demands in order to survive in a challenging national andinternational competitive environment. Therefore, it is essential thatcompanies deliver their products and services to target markets muchfaster and at an optimum cost than their competitors. There is no doubtthat this competition of companies is a big deal in logistics activities. Asa matter of fact, logistics activities will result in lower costs, higherquality, increased production and customer satisfaction. At the end of allthis, a significant advantage will be gained nationally and internationally. The desire of companies to appreciate these advantages has led to anincrease in the importance of logistics.2-Conceptual FrameworkLogistics management is the full range of administrative activitiesthat meet the two-way flow of goods or supplies between shipment pointsand delivery points in line with customer needs (Tanyaş, 2005: 6).Logistics management is basically the process of planning the flowof goods and services through the various channels of production to theproducer. It is mainly aimed at solving the problems that may beexperienced in this flow process. The nececities for businesses to have alogistics management lies in the need to achieve the following objectives(Erdal ve Çancı, 2009: 47):• Reducing the cost of goods and services• Creating a competitive advantage• Providing added value to the business• Establishing high quality standards• Harmonizing the business with environmental conditions.Logistics management consists of three basic stages. In the firstphase, there is a physical distribution. The physical distribution phaseessentially begins with the acceptance the order. Following the orderacceptance step, order processing, inventory control, warehouse andstock movements are in the line. The second step in logistics managementis to identify the raw materials and materials that will be needed in themanufacturing process. They are transportation, main productionprogram and support for the distribution of goods within themanufacturing process from one warehouse to another. Providing necessary coordination between manufacturing and physical distributionis one of the main objectives of logistics management. Procurement is theprocess of obtaining raw materials and goods by utilising externalsources. Important elements in the procurement process includedetermining the characteristics and boundaries of supply sources, searching for new sources of supply and establishing continuous andsystematic relationships with existing sources of supply. The development of logistics activities can be taken up to the 19thcentury. The birth of Logistics as an industry and trade area is linked tothe Industrial Revolution and modernism process. In this part of thestudy, the development of logistics activities in our country and abroadwill be examined. The history of the first work in the field of logistics dates back tothe 1850s. The logistics economy was written by Lardner in London.Later, economists such as Taussig, Fetter and Handley worked. Between1956 and 1965, the concept of integrated logistics came to light, andDrucker, one of the well-known names in this field, began to gain clarity(Drucker, 1962: 72).The 1980s are a turning point in terms of the logistics sector. Therewas a rapid development and growth in the process. In the 1980s, thenotion of integrated logistics began to gain importance due to the evergrowingrapid growth in the logistics sector (Bowersox et al., 2002: 328).With the 1990s, organizations began to reduce logistics costs.Combination of logistics services and outsourcing strategies have begunto be preferred (Ross, 1998: 96).The development of the concept of logistics in our country is quitenew. Mainly import and export activities, in general large-sc

Kamiloglu, Hakan Alper; Sadoglu, Erol
Cantilever retaining walls are earth-retaining structures commonly used in construction. Conventional methods used to determine the active earth thrust acting on a wall often neglect friction between the soil and wall. This study presents an analytical solution for determining the active earth thrusts acting on a cantilever retaining wall with a short heel and a shear key that supports granular backfill. Three different earth thrusts were considered to be acting on three different parts of the rear face of the wall; the thrusts were derived using the limit equilibrium method. The active earth thrust formulas were also simplified in terms of earth thrust coefficients, unit weight, and wall height. An algorithm was developed to obtain earth thrust coefficients depending on various wall dimensions and internal friction angles and to prepare graphs representing earth thrust coefficients and failure surface angles. The effects of wall dimensions and internal friction angles on the earth thrusts and failure surface angles were determined. Finally, the proposed method of determining earth thrust coefficients was compared with other approaches.

Aggon, Eser; Agirbas, Ozturk; Ucan, Izzet; Hackney, Anthony C.
Background & Study Aim: Despite the high risk of extreme sports, participation rates have increased in the last years. Rafting and paragliding are two of the most popular extreme sports. The aim of this study was the effect of rafting and paragliding exercises in males on oxidative stress situation and antioxidant status. Material & Methods: Seventeen male rafters and ten male paragliders voluntarily participated in the study. The inclusion criteria were: non-smoker, no known history of cardiovascular disease, body mass index (BMI) < 30 kg/m2, and no intake of medications or antioxidant supplements. Blood samples were taken at rafting and paragliding practices' a day before and after the sporting activities. The data were statistically analysed with Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney U tests. Results: Rafting activity increased the values of the total antioxidant situation (TAS), paragliding exercises decreased the level of TAS while paragliding increased the level of total oxidative stress (TOS). Differences existed between the group only before activities in TAS values. Conclusions: The specific property of the rafting workout is to stimulate of participants to cope with oxidative stress by activating the antioxidant status. In turn paragliding exercises increase oxidative stress due to the danger element in the sport and perhaps requiring the participants stay at a high altitude, in some situations, during its practice.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2017Scopus SJRQ3Enhanced Pinning Properties of Laser-Irradiated Bulk MgB2 Superconductors
Erdem, O.; Yanmaz, E.
In order to investigate the effect of laser irradiation on the superconducting properties of MgB2, a pellet-shaped sample was produced and cut into two pieces. The dot-shaped molten patterns, with the distance of 100 µm between them, were formed on the surface of one of the pieces by using an Nd:YVO4 laser. The grains of the irradiated sample were significantly grown due to the laser-induced sintering. The modified surface appeared to have dense and compacted grains as a result of increasing interconnectivity among the superconducting grains. The critical current densities at 5 K in a field of 3 T were found to be 5.38 × 104 and 8.96 × 104 A cm−2 for the reference and the irradiated samples, respectively. The increment of critical current density for the irradiated sample is presumably connected with the changing of pinning mechanism after the laser irradiation. For the irradiated sample which showed a higher value of critical current density at 5 K under high fields, Δκ pinning was obtained as a dominant pinning mechanism, while the normal point pinning was dominant for the reference one. These results point out that the superconducting properties of bulk MgB2 can be changed and improved via laser irradiation in a short time.

Karaali, Rabi; Oztürk, Ilhan Tekin
In this study, some improving methods of gas turbine cogeneration cycles are applied on a simple cogeneration cycle. These methods are preheating air, preheating air and fuel, inlet air cooling by using evaporative cooling and absorption cooling. These cogeneration systems are evaluated with respect to energy efficiency (energy utilization factor), exergetic efficiency, electric and heat power, electric-heat energy rate, artificial thermal efficiency and fuel energy saving ratio and are compared with each other. In these analyses, the thermodynamic parameters such as compressing ratio, air and fuel mass ratio and compressor inlet temperatures of the cycles are used. It is concluded that these parameters can be listed from most effective to least effective as air fuel ratio, pressure ratio and compressor inlet temperature. It is also concluded that the most efficient cycle is found to be the air-fuel preheated cycle for obtaining more electric power and less heat power, and the simple cycle is the most suitable one for obtaining more heat power and less electric power.
