- MakaleYalnız künye2020Scopus SJRQ2The relationship between housing prices and inflation rate in Turkey: Evidence from panel Konya causality test
Korkmaz, Özge
Purpose: Human beings need shelter as the beginning of their existence. Same holds true for people who live in Turkey as it is a cultural and traditional reason to be the host and endeavor to buy a home even if one has to pay the debt for years. Another factor that is important for individuals and even for countries is the inflation rate. In this context, the purpose of this study is to investigate whether the 26 regions of Turkey are affected by the inflationary pressure, specifically in the housing price index (HPI). Design/methodology/approach: For this purpose, data from 2010:01 to 2019:01 and the consumer price index (CPI), as well as HPI have been used. The causal relationship between the variables is analyzed by Konya Causality (2006) test. Findings: The key results suggest that HPI causes inflationary pressures in some regions. Research limitations/implications: The study has some limitations in terms of data set and scope. These are as follows: although there are many variables affecting housing prices, this study aims to investigate the causal link between inflation and housing prices. In addition, only the CPI and HPI variables were provided on a monthly basis in the 2010-2019 period for 26 regions due to the aim of making regional propositions in the investigation of this relationship. For these reasons, different macroeconomic variables could not be studied. Originality/value: This study makes the following contribution to the literature. While the majority of existing literature investigates the relationship between housing prices and inflation from an empirical perspective for country, very few studies have been for the sub-regions and also these studies have focused on only some sub-regions. In other words, in the literature review, a study has observed that Turkey has to examine the relationship between the housing price and inflation variables for all sub-regions in particular. To overcome this deficiency in the literature, this study aims to investigate the relationship between housing price and inflation for 26 regions.

Güngör, Okan; Yüksek, Halil İbrahim
The efficiency of photovoltaic (PV) panel systems depends on the structure of the photovoltaic cells and the transfer of energy from the PV panel to load. The focus of this study is energy transfer. The most important component in the energy transfer is maximum power point tracking (MPPT). The MPPT consists of two components: the algorithm for calculation the maximum power and the hardware for power generating. This study investigates how some the DC-DC converters (hardware) impact on the performance of the MPPT under six different environmental conditions by using two different duty cycle calculation methods. Contribution of this study to the literatüre is to analyze the performance of some the DC-DC converters in MPPT by completely eliminating the effect of MPPT algorithms. As a result of this study, while using the Boost converter in MPPT applications, the internal resistance of the PV panel must be equal or smaller than load resistance. However, the Cuk converter can reach to maximum power point in all conditions such as temperature, radiation and load.

- BildiriYalnız künye2020INVESTIGATION OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF VISCOUS DAMPERS CONNECTED TO ADJACENT BUILDINGS ON DYNAMIC BEHAVIOR UNDER SOIL-STRUCTURE INTERACTION EFFECTS
Hatıpoğlu, Yavuz Selim; Düzgün, Oğuz Akın
In this study, the dynamic behavior of two adjacent structures with fluid viscous damper (FVD) was investigated under the influence of earthquake and considering soil-structure interaction (SSI). Adjacent structures with FVD’s were analysed for three different soil types. The modelling and analysis were made in two-dimensional (2D) space by using ANSYS package program. Viscous boundary conditions were used on the boundaries of 2D soil model. The analyses results were obtained in terms of displacement, acceleration, and shear force. The effect of FVD was investigated using different connection types. The damping coefficient of FVD’s was assumed constant in all analyses. When the results of the analysis are examined, it can be seen that FVD’s are effective for seismic response. However, it is necessary to consider the soil-structure interaction. Significant different structural results were obtained between fixed support and three different soil types. For example, in the same model, while the top floor displacement may reduce in Soil Type I, the top floor displacement may increase in Soil Type II. At the end of the study, it was seen that there was no need to connect the FVD to all floors. It was found sufficient to connect a fluid viscous damper only to the top floor (1 FVD) or to the top and middle floor (2 FVD). FVD’s have no effect on buildings with the similar dynamic character. In the analysis for seismic control of adjacent buildings, the effect of soil-structure interaction should certainly be taken into account.

- MakaleYalnız künye2020Scopus SJRQ3An analysis of the role of the social acceptance of University Students' bicycle use in sustainable urban development when epidemics spread
Saatchian, Vahid; Azimkhani, Amin; Honari, Habib; Türkmen, Mutlu
The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of the acceptance of university students' bicycle use in sustainable urban development in Iran when epidemics spread. The research method was descriptivecorrelational, and the investigation was carried out as a field study. The statistical population of the study consisted of university students, 254 of whom were selected by a simple random sampling method to participate in the research. The research instrument was a questionnaire based on the Sustainable Development with a reliability coefficient of 0.83; the social acceptance component was based on the theory of planned behaviour with a reliability coefficient of 0.8. As the results of the investigation have demonstrated, the bicycle plays a significant role in the development of the socialization process of people, and there is a positive and significant relationship between social acceptance and sustainable development (p<0.05). Furthermore, 20% of sustainable development change was achieved through the dimensions of social acceptance (planned behaviour theory). Finally, it can be argued that perceived behaviour in social acceptance is most likely to play a significant role in the emergence of sustainable development by external factors such as encouragements and persuasion of the family, important people, friends, acquaintances, and even by the existing norms in society. Subsequently, as people change their mindset when epidemics spread, they can turn all the behaviours they manifest in their leisure time into a culture development movement.

The present study's main purpose is to determine the current-voltage (I–V) performance of Graphene (Gr) based hetero nanostructure produced on Al2O3/p-Si. Graphene synthesis was carried out using the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) technique on Copper (Cu) foils used as a metal catalyst and transferred onto Al2O3/p-Si using the conventional transfer method. The I–V characteristics of this structure were measured in the dark environment, and the electrical properties of the Gr/Si structure were characterized at room temperature. The rectifying ratio (RR) of the structure was found to be about 103 at ± 3 V. The electrical properties of ideality factor (n), series resistance (Rs), and barrier height (Φb) were examined by using the theory of Thermionic Emission (TE), Norde's method, and Cheung's method. The values of Φb, which were calculated using Norde's method, Cheung's method, and the theory of thermionic emission (TE), were found to be 0.69 eV, 0.71 eV, and 0.68 eV, respectively. The ideality factor was found to be approximately 3.89 according to the theory of TE. The values of series resistance were also determined using the Norde's method and Cheung's two different parameters (dV/dln(I) and H(I)) found to be 9.60 kΩ, 9.12 kΩ, and 5.94 kΩ, respectively.

- MakaleYalnız künye2020Scopus SJRQ2Phy-X/ZeXTRa: a software for robust calculation of effective atomic numbers for photon, electron, proton, alpha particle, and carbon ion interactions
Özpolat, Ö.F.; Alım, B.; Şakar, E.; Büyükyıldız, M.; Kurudirek, M.
The purpose of the present work is robust calculation of effective atomic numbers (Zeffs) for photon, electron, proton, alpha particle and carbon ion interactions through the newly developed software, Phy-X/ZeXTRa (Zeff of materials for X-Type Radiation attenuation). A pool of total mass attenuation and energy absorption coefficients (for photons) and total mass stopping powers (for charged particles) for elements was constructed first. Then, a matrix of interaction cross sections for elements Z = 1–92 was constructed. Finally, effective atomic numbers were calculated for any material by interpolating adjacent cross sections through a linear logarithmic interpolation formula. The results for Zeff for photon interaction were compared with those calculated through Mayneord’s formula, which suggests a single-valued Zeff for any material for low-energy photons for which photoelectric absorption is the dominant interaction process. The single-valued Zeff was found to agree well with that obtained by other methods, in the low-energy region. In addition, Zeff values of various materials of biological interest were compared with those obtained experimentally at 59.54 keV. In general, the agreement between values calculated with Phy-X/ZeXTRa and Auto-Zeff and those measured were satisfactory. A comparison of Zeff values for photon energy absorption calculated with Phy-X/ZeXTRa and literature values for a nucleotide base, adenine, was made, and the relative difference (RD) in Zeff between Phy-X/ZeXTRa and literature values was found to be 2% < RD < 11%, at low photon energies (1–100 keV), while it was less than 1% at energies higher than 100 keV. Highest Zeff values were observed at low photon energies, where photoelectric absorption dominates photon interaction. For electrons, corresponding RD(%) values in Zeff were found to be in the range 0.4 ≤ RD(%) ≤ 1.7, while for heavy charged particle interactions it was 2.4 ≤ RD(%) ≤ 4.2 for total proton interaction and 0 ≤ RD(%) ≤ 8 for total alpha particle interaction. In view of the importance of Zeff for identifying and differentiating tissues in diagnostic imaging as well as for estimating accurate dose in radiotherapy and particle-beam therapy, Phy-X/ZeXTRa could be used for fast and accurate calculation of Zeff in a wide energy range for both photon and charged particle (electrons, protons, alpha particles and C ions) interactions.

Şensoy, A.T.; Gökçe, H.S.
The remarkable increment in radioactivity risks of today's industrial world is required to the efficient design of shielding structures. In the present study, the optimal design parameters of barite concrete shields for providing the highest gamma radiation shielding capability were researched by using a hybrid technique of the Box-Behnken Design based response surface method and Particle Swarm Optimization. Barite aggregate fraction, water-to-cement ratio and cement content of the shields were limited as 0:100 (by weight), 0.30:0.70 (by weight) and 200:600 (kg/m3) in the optimization problem, respectively. The regression equation derived from the regression learning process presented an excellent correlation to define the XCOM linear attenuation coefficients. A nonlinear response surface fitted to the regression equation was used as the validation of the PSO results obtained from MATLAB. The results of this study have shown that the proposed method provides satisfactory predictions for the barite concrete radiation-shielding capability depending on the design parameters. In addition, it was found that the linear attenuation coefficient could be increased by 102% by the design of the best shield according to the poorest mixture.

Yaylacı, Murat; Adıyaman, Gökhan; Öner, Erdal; Birinci, Ahmet
In this study, the continuous and discontinuous contact problems of functionally graded (FG) layer resting on a rigid foundation were considered. The top of the FG layer was loaded by a distributed load. It was assumed that the shear modulus and the density of the layer varied according to exponential functions along the depth whereas the the Poisson ratio remained constant. The problem first was solved analytically and the results were verified with the ones obtained from finite element (FE) solution. In analytical solution, the stress and displacement components for FG layer were obtained by the help of Fourier integral transform. Critical load expression and integral equation for continuous and discontinuous contact, respectively, using corresponding boundary conditions in each case. The finite element solution of the problem was carried out using ANSYS software program. In continuous contact case, initial separation distance and contact stresses along the contact surface between the FG layer and the rigid foundation were examined. Separation distances and contact stresses were obtained in case of discontinuous contact. The effect of material properties and loading were investigated using both analytical and FE solutions. It was shown that obtained results were compatible with each other.

- MakaleYalnız künye2020Scopus SJRQ1D-optimal experimental design for production models in nonstandard experiments
Özdemir, Akın
Robust design is an effective Quality by Design method to reduce product variation by selecting levels of design factors. For a number of situations, a nonstandard design region with linearly limited resources is needed to conduct an experiment. In the literature, little attention has been given to the development of robust design models for the nonstandard design region with a combination of linearly limited resources and a limited number of design points. In this paper, a selection scheme of D-optimal experimental design points is proposed to generate design points using the modified exchange algorithm for the nonstandard design region while specifying linearly limited resources and the limited number of design points. The modified exchange algorithm is able to generate global design points with less time complexity than the improved Fedorov algorithm. In addition, robust design models linking a D-optimal experimental design with quality considerations are proposed in order to obtain optimum settings of design factors for the product. Comparative studies are also presented. Finally, a real-life experimental study shows that the proposed models with the desirability function and the sequential quadratic programming technique achieve greater variance reduction than the traditional counterparts.

Artar, Musa; Daloğlu, Ayşe T.
The effect of soil foundation plays active role in optimum design of steel space frames when included. However, its influence on design can be calculated after a long iterative procedure. So it requires longer computer time and more computational effort if it is done properly. The main purpose of this study is to investigate how these effects can be calculated in more practical way in a shorter time. The effects of semi-rigid column bases are taken into account in optimum design of steel space frames. This study is carried out by using JAYA algorithm which is a novel and practical method based on a single revision equation. The displacement, stress and geometric size constraints are considered in the optimum design. A computer program is coded in MATLAB to achieve corporation with SAP2000-OAPI (Open Application Programming Interface) for optimum solutions. Four different steel space frames including soil structure interaction taken from literature are investigated according to different semi-rigidly supported models depending on different rotational stiffness values. And the results obtained from analyses are compared with the results available in reference studies. The results of the study show that semi-rigidly supported systems in the range of appropriate rotational stiffness values offer practical solutions in a very short time. And close agreement is obtained with the studies on optimum design of steel space frames including soil effect underneath.

Savaskan, Burcu; Abdioglu, Murat; Ozturk, Kemal
In our study as different from the literature, the magnetic levitation force between a bulk MgB2 and two different permanent magnetic guideway (PMG) arrangements, which are Halbach and Conventional PMGs, were investigated in different cooling heights (CHs) and Field-Cooled (FC) condition at the temperatures of 37 K and 33 K. The cylindrical bulk MgB2 superconductor was fabricated by in-situ solid state reaction process with the diameter of 18 mm and the height of 5 mm. The XRD data indicates well developed MgB2 phase and the Jc value was obtained as 68 kA/cm2 at 30 K in the self-field. Experimental results show that MgB2 bulk above the Halbach PMG can exhibit better load capability at all the cooling heights between the bulk MgB2 and the PMG due to a more suitable magnetic field distribution. The maximum levitation force for Halbach PMG corresponds to 16.86 N whereas the conventional PMG shows 9.02 N at 37 K in cooling height of 77 mm. Additionally, the maximum levitation force increases while the CH increases because flux exclusion is more effective for larger CHs. It is considered that the experimental results obtained in study are very useful for future Maglev applications, because there are limited number of studies on magnetic levitation force of MgB2 bulk for different MgB2-PMG arrangements.

Labor migration from underdeveloped and developing countries to developed countries has gained great importance, especially with the acceleration of globalization since the 1980s. The remittances that migrants earn by working in the receiving countries and send to their families have become an important tool for fighting against poverty and supporting economic growth.Migrant remittances, which are more stable than other financial sources, became a primary source of foreign exchange for supporting economic growth of developing countries by financing the current account deficit, reducing poverty, increasing consumption expenditures, and increasing household savings and investments. Remittances, which are an important financial source for developing countries, affect the economic growth in the remittance-receiving country positively or negatively. There is no consensus in the literature about the effect of remittances on economic growth.Remittances take an important place for lowering poverty and supporting economic growth because Turkey is a developing country. In this study, I analyzed a historical background of remittance flows to Turkey. By looking back at the literature, I tried to correlate Turkish remittances to Turkish financial sector development.

Şensoy, Abdullah Tahir; Çolak, Murat; Kaymaz, Irfan; Dispinar, Derya
This study aimed to determine the optimal casting parameters for the maximum fluidity of A356 alloy. Gravity die cast method was used. For this purpose, central composite design (CCD) was performed. The input parameters and their limits for the trial design were selected as pre-heating temperature (100–400 °C), casting temperature (680–760 °C), and cross-sectional thickness (1–10 mm). Using the CCD-based simulation results of the feed distance, a highly correlated full-quadratic regression equation was obtained with the highest R2 (0.99), which then was used as the objective function for the particle swarm optimization (PSO) process. The highest value of the response parameter, flow distance, reached up to 491.19 mm when the input parameters were selected as 400 °C, 760 °C and 10 mm, respectively. The sensitivity analysis has shown that the most effective parameter on the fluidity is the cross-sectional thickness. The response surface method (RSM)-based optimization results have been also validated using the PSO method. Although the higher temperatures have been found to result in better fluidity, there may be some drawbacks to working at higher temperatures such as energy cost and mould life. To determine the optimum input parameters, the RSM model suggested in this study can be modified for any type of casting process. Moreover, especially for a complex-shaped part, the manufacturer can be advised regarding operating conditions such as pre-heating and casting temperatures.

Bioreduction of different biaryl ketones was carried out to their corresponding chiral biaryl carbinols such as (S)-(4-chlorophenyl) (phenyl) methanol (2a), which can be used in the synthesis of L-cloperastine drug, with antitussive, antiepidemic activity and bronchial musculature relaxant characteristics, in gram scale, enantiopure form (>99%) and excellent yields. The selectivity of C. zeylanoides P1 in enantioselective reduction of biaryl ketones was not affected by the steric and electronic effects of substrates. The current method demonstrates an encouraging green chemistry approach for the production of biaryl secondary chiral alcohols of pharmaceutical importance in mild, inexpensive and environmentally friendly process. The present study was aimed at investigating the effects of the dietary use of different doses of Moringa oleifera essential oil (MOEO) on performance parameters, internal organ weights and meat quality in Japanese quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica) exposed to Heat Stress (HS). For this purpose, 320 male day-old quail chicks were used. Seven days of preliminary (physical exercise) and a 35-day fattening period were applied. The animals were divided into 8 groups, each including 40 animals according to temparature (C: 25 °C and SC: 37 °C) and dietary doses (C, 200, 400 and 600). Each group was divided into 4 subgroups, each comprising 10 animals. The consequences of this study showed that, in the stress-free (HSF) groups, while all of the different doses of dietary MOEO positively affected growth performance, feed intake and feed efficiency, in the HS groups, similar positive effects were observed with the use of 200 ppm of dietary MOEO. While no effect was detected on internal organ weights on Days 21 and 42 in the HSF and HS groups, a dose-dependent increase was determined in the intestinal pH value on day 42 in the HS group (p <.05). Additionally, in the analysis of meat quality on the 21st and 42 days compared to the controls, no effect was observed on the meat colour parameters value and TBARS level in the HS and HSF groups. Based on the consequences of this study, it is considered that, MOEO could be used as an alternative product in poultry, at a dose of 200 ppm, to reduce the detrimental effects of HS.HIGHLIGHTS Temperature stress, performance parameters and serious problems in the health of poultry. Moringa olifera helps regulate performance parameters in poultry exposed to heat stress. Since the addition of Moringa oleifera to the diets does not affect the organ weight and meat quality in 21 and 42 days, it does not cause any negative effects for the consumer.

Aryl and heteroaryl chiral carbinols are useful precursors in the synthesis of drugs. Lactobacillus paracasei BD87E6, which is obtained from a cereal based fermented beverage, was investigated as whole cell biocatalyst for the bioreduction of different ketones (including aromatic, hetero-aromatic and fused bicyclic ketone) into chiral carbinols, which can be used as a pharmaceutical intermediate. The study shows that bioreduction of aryl, heteroaryl and fused bicyclic ketone (1–5) to their corresponding chiral carbinols (1a–5a) in excellent enantioselectivity (>99%) with high yields. This study gave the first example for an enantiopure production of (S)-6-chlorochroman-4-ol (3a), which has many antioxidant activity, by a biological method. For asymmetric bioreduction of other prochiral ketones, these results open way to use of L. paracasei BD87E6 as biocatalysts. This paper studies the potential to ensure a numerical solution of nonlinear Riccati differential equations with an effective method, namely operational matrix which is derived by Hermite polynomials with the sense of Caputo derivative. In order to solve the Riccati dif- ferential equations, the complete problem is simplified with the oper- ational matrix obtained. To achieve this goal, the proposed approach converts the fractional differential equations (FDEs) into a set of alge- braic equations. We then construct a matrix with the algebraic equa- tions and extra equations extracted from initial conditions. Therefore, we achieve the solution by solving these algebraic equations given in a matrix sense. In order to show the efficiency of the proposed idea, we show a number of illustrative examples in which the results confirm the applicability of the suggested approach.

During the global financial crisis in 2008, the world trade experienced a large and severe collapse. Between 2008 and 2009, world exports and exports in Turkey decreased by 16% and 22%, respectively. The recent research has shown that the slowdown in global demand and tight financing conditions are the main factors behind this drop in exports. Auboin (2009) has stated that the 10%-15% decline in international trade after the global financial crisis may be due to the decline in commercial finance. In addition, the decline in commercial finance is particularly important for developing countries that have many sectors dependent on external financing. This study examines the reasons of the decline in exports in the world especially in Turkey during global financial crisis and assesses whether the financing constraints have contributed to this collapse. This study considered as a literature review consists of theoretical framework of the relationship between export and export financing. In order to show whether there is an effect of financing in international trade, firstly, research on the financial models is included in the classical models of international trade that show the dependence of international trading companies to financing. In this study, Zn(Al)O thin films were produced using colloidal solution of Zn(Al)O nanoparticles dispersed in polyethylene glycol (PEG). Zn(Al)O mixed metal oxides were obtained by a simple pyrolysis of Zn–Al containing layered double hydroxide materials with different Al content. Survey of textural analysis of Zn(Al)O mixed oxides displayed characteristic peaks of ZnO structure. The calculated ratios of lattice parameters c/a were found to be 1.61 and 1.60 for 3-ZAO and 5-ZAO, respectively. The optical transmittance of the prepared thin films was not significantly affected by the increase in Al content; however, this increase changed the optical band gap from 3.27 eV to 3.33 eV. ZAO thin films, which are both cost-effective with good optical properties, have the potential to be an alternative to those used in many optical devices lately.
