Bulbuloglu, Semra; Sarıtaş, Serdar; Güneş, Hüseyin; Kapikiran, Gurkan

In our study, we aimed to examine the effect of nursing care satisfaction on the pain and anxiety levels of patients who underwent orthopedic surgery. This descriptive study was conducted with the participation of patients who underwent surgery in the orthopedic clinic of a training and research hospital, and they were in the early postoperative period. Patient information form, Newcastle Satisfaction with Nursing Scale and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory were used in data collection. In this study, we found that 41.2% of the orthopedic patients were between the ages of 36 and 50, and 60.4% of them were women. Both nursing care satisfaction and anxiety levels were found to be higher in women than men (p<0.05). The highest satisfaction rate was found among patients aged 18-35 years old, and the highest anxiety level was found in patients over the age of 66. In our study, we found that higher anxiety levels increased pain intensity, and a high level of nursing care satisfaction could be seen in various pain and anxiety levels. Our study showed that nursing care satisfaction was affected by pain and anxiety in patients who underwent orthopedic surgery. In addition, it showed that pain and anxiety trigger each other. Clinicians should be aware of the negative effects of pain and anxiety on postoperative recovery. Strategies to increase nursing care satisfaction should be developed.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Pyoverdines: A Hidden Threat in Apitherapy Applications

    Bayram, Sinan

Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a Gram-negative rod-shape bacterium, is one of the most common pathogens in nosocomial infections and this pathogenic species draws attention with its high prevalence rate in patients with septicemia. Pyoverdines are fluorescent siderophore produced by some Pseudomonas species such as P. aeruginosa and Pseudomonas fluorescens. These siderophores support biofilm production in these microorganisms and also plays a role as a virulence factor. In this study, anti-Pseudomonas activity of 10 different honey samples was evaluated by agar well diffusion (AWD) method. In addition, minimum inhibition concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) values of these honey samples were determined via microbroth dilution method. The obtained results showed that only oak honey and chestnut honey have negligible scale low anti-Pseudomonas activity. In addition, it was observed that other honey samples did not have an inhibitory effect against these pathogens. Finally, the promoting property of pyoverdine siderophore production of these honey samples was evaluated and it was concluded that all honey samples stimulated pyoverdin production at a concentration ½ w/v.

Assembly Line Worker Assignment and Balancing Problem by Considering Labor Cost

    Yılmaz, Hamid

Assignment of worker appears as a new problem in the literature for assembly lines (AL) where the workforce is heterogeneously located. The difference of this line balancing from the traditional line is that the assembly task times of the workers to be assigned to the stations differ from each other. Especially assembly lines issues are generally a labor-intensive type of production. Therefore, for assembly line problems, balancing activity should be done considering the labor costs. Thus, the proposed solutions will be able to produce more realistic results for real life. For this purpose, in this study, a mixed-integer mathematical formulation is presented for assembly line worker assignment and balancing problems by considering the objective function of minimizing labor costs and cycle time. The efficiency of the proposed model and the improvements have been demonstrated by solving test instances in the literature.
