Sönmez Sari, Ebru; Terzi, Handan
Aim: To understand the experiences and coping strategies of nursing students who were impacted by Turkey's once-in-a-century catastrophic earthquakes in 2023. Background: Nursing students rarely experience a disaster in person, and their imagination can be limited. Methods: This study used a descriptive-qualitative study design. It was conducted with 17 first-year nursing students, studying at a university in the northeastern part of Turkey, who survived the earthquake. A personal information form and a semistructured questionnaire were used to collect the data. The data were collected between March and April 2023 and analyzed using the content analysis method and the MaXQDA programme. Results: The data were grouped into three main themes—“What ‘earthquake’ was and what it is now?,” “Am I aware of the ‘earthquake’ now?,” and “Coping mechanisms and supporting systems”—and categorized into seven subthemes. Conclusions: The experiences of earthquake-affected nursing students emphasized the importance of being prepared for disasters and meeting their emotional needs. Implications for nursing practice and policies: Including specific courses and case studies regarding disasters, whether natural or human-made, in education programs can ensure better prepared nurses. Also, the integration of content about management and coping with such crises into nursing curricula is considered vital.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ2A new approach to solving local fractional Riccati differential equations using the Adomian-Elzaki method
Aydemir, Hilal; Merdan, Mehmet; Demir, Ümit
The Elzaki-Adomian decomposition method (EADM) is intended to serve as an efficient analytical method for the resolution of these original fractional-order Riccati differential equations. This can be accomplished permanently by incorporating the Adomian decomposition method with Elzaki. The local fractional derivative is implemented in this format. Particularly in the context of nonlinear differential equations (ODE), this approach is preferred over digital gaps. Additionally, the method’s convergence. Random individuals with uniform, beta, normal, and gamma distributions are used to select the initial conditions or coefficients of the equations. The variance, confidence interval, and expected value of the solutions that are obtained will be determined. MATLAB (2013a) package software will be employed to display the individuals that were brought together, and the results will be analyzed randomly.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ4Synergistic electromagnetic wave absorbing properties of NiFe2O4/MWCNT composites synthesized via microwave-assisted combustion method in Ku-band
Johari, Mohd Hilmi; Ismail, Ismayadi; Azis, Rabaah Syahidah; Tim, Chan Kar; Nafis, Nur Biha Mohamed; Ertugrul, Mehmet; Karakaş, Ibrahim Hakki
This study investigates the synthesis, microstructural characteristics, magnetic properties, and electromagnetic wave absorption performance of nickel ferrite (NiFe2O4) composites reinforced with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) synthesized via the microwave-assisted combustion (MAC) method. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis confirmed the desired structure of NiFe2O4 and the successful integration of MWCNTs within the NiFe2O4 matrix. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) analysis revealed the entanglement of MWCNTs and their significant impact on hindering particle growth, resulting in a finer particle structure. The reduction in average particle size from 1.317 µm for pure NiFe2O4 to 0.436 µm for NiFe2O4 with 2wt% MWCNT, representing approximately a 66.89% reduction, significantly demonstrates the effectiveness of MWCNTs in limiting particle growth and promoting a more refined particle structure. Magnetic property analyses showed a nuanced interplay between MWCNT concentration and composite behaviour, with the saturation magnetization (Ms) exhibiting substantial enhancement in the NiFe2O4/2wt%MWCNT composite, indicative of effective alignment of magnetic moments. However, a subsequent decrease in Ms at higher MWCNT concentrations (4wt% and 6wt%) suggested potential dilution effects and disruptions in magnetic interactions within the composite. Electromagnetic wave absorption investigations revealed NiFe2O4/4wt%MWCNT as a highly efficient absorber in the Ku-band, with superior impedance matching and a high attenuation constant. The reflection loss (RL) reached a maximum of –17.58 dB at 12.78 GHz, signifying absorption of more than 99% of the incident EM wave in the microwave range. The favourable impedance matching and high attenuation constant contributed to the superior performance of NiFe2O4/4wt%MWCNT compared to pure NiFe2O4 and MWCNT. These findings suggest the potential of NiFe2O4/MWCNT composites for applications in telecommunications, aerospace, and electronics, with opportunities for further optimization and investigation into long-term stability and durability under varying environmental conditions.

- MakaleYalnız künye2025Scopus SJRQ1Analysis of the relationship between school leadership and collective teacher efficacy: a cultural comparison
Kaya, Metin; Demir, Mustafa
This meta-analysis study aims to analyze the relationship between school leadership and collective teacher efficacy in a cultural context. The meta-analysis included a total of 47 studies in different cultures in different countries. The results of the analysis for all 47 studies involved suggested a medium-level relationship between school leadership and collective teacher efficacy. The combined effect size was calculated for all studies according to random effect models (ES =.48). And it is concluded that the power distance and long-term orientation of countries positively predict the relationship between school leadership and collective teacher efficacy. In addition, it is concluded that the individualism tendency of countries negatively predicts the relationship between school leadership and collective teacher efficacy. Moreover, it is determined that the uncertainty avoidance and masculinity tendencies of countries do not predict the relationship between school leadership and collective teacher efficacy. In line with these results, school managers working in countries that have high power distance, collectivity, long-term investment, and limitation tendency should benefit from these opportunities to carry out and complete the school mission. School managers in countries that have low power distance, collectivity, long-term investment, and limitation tendency should develop different strategies.

Sari, Fahriye; Ozel, Sultan Suleyman; Sarilmaz, Adem; Ozel, Faruk; Kus, Mahmut; Ersoz, Mustafa
One of the most effective methods for generating renewable energy is the efficient conversion of photons into electrical energy using environmentally sustainable materials. In recent years, the integration of chalcogenide materials, which exhibit graphene-like semiconducting properties and high charge carrier mobility, into perovskite solar cells (PSCs) has garnered significant attention for enhancing the performance, stability, and eco-friendly nature of these devices. In this study, Cu₂CoSnS₄ (CCTS) nanocrystals were synthesized and utilized as a fully inorganic hole transport layer (HTL) in inverted PSCs. Devices incorporating 6 vol% CCTS achieved a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 10.07 %, and retained 93 % of their initial efficiency after 720 h under inert storage conditions, without encapsulation. This demonstrates a notable improvement in stability compared to conventional PEDOT: PSS-based devices. The optimized CCTS HTL provided better energy level alignment, reduced moisture ingress, and enhanced charge transport. These findings indicate that CCTS is a promising inorganic HTL candidate for efficient and stable PSCs.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ1Death anxiety and death literacy among Turkish patients with chronic diseases: a cross-sectional study
Semerci Çakmak, Vahide; Seven, Ahmet; Sönmez Sari, Ebru
Background: Death anxiety is common in patients with chronic diseases. Death literacy is a novel theoretical framework that enables patients to discuss death, accept it as a natural aspect of life, and get a deeper comprehension of it. However, it is unclear whether there is a relationship between death literacy and death anxiety. Furthermore, death literacy has not been sufficiently researched in Turkish society. This study investigated the levels of death anxiety and death literacy among Turkish patients with chronic diseases and the factors affecting death anxiety. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study. The sample consisted of Turkish patients with chronic diseases (n = 225). The data were collected with the Turkish Death Anxiety Scale and the Death Literacy Index. Pearson correlation, independent samples t test, One-Way ANOVA, and multiple linear regression were employed to analyse the data. Results: There exists a negative moderate correlation between death anxiety and death literacy. It has been determined that the factors that most influence patients’ fear of death are their level of death literacy and gender. These factors explained 12.8% of the variance in death anxiety (R2 = 0.128, F = 3.153, p < 0.001). Conclusions: The results suggest that death literacy level and gender were found to be factors affecting death anxiety of patients. Women have higher death anxiety scores. While the level of death literacy of Turkish patients with chronic diseases increases, their death anxiety decreases. The findings of the study were believed to offer a comprehensive information for healthcare practitioners in the management of such patients.

- BildiriAçık Erişim2025Analysis of Lightning-Induced Electromagnetic Pulses on High Voltage Transmission Lines
Cakil, Turan; Ozen, Sukru; Ates, Kayhan; Cakir, Mehmet
in this study investigates grounding enhancement techniques for power transmission lines, drawing an analogy with electromagnetic shielding methods. If we look at the basic analogy between electromagnetic shielding and grounding, the purpose of shielding is to prevent electromagnetic fields (both electrical and magnetic) from reaching an area or to reduce electromagnetic propagation. Grounding helps maintain signal quality, eliminate static buildup, and ensure the system meets EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) requirements by safely conducting the shield's parasitic potential to the ground. Examples of such structures include single-point grounding or two-point grounding and the use of mesh. The fundamental principle here is to reduce or prevent the interference of parasitic signals into the protected system. The objective is to improve the reliability and efficiency of transmission systems by optimizing grounding performance. Lightning and electromagnetic pulse (LEMP) intensity and current amplitude data obtained from the Turkish State Meteorological Service (TSMS) were used in the analysis. The electrical performance of the line and its resistance to LEMP-induced faults were evaluated through simulations using the Alternative Transients Program - Electromagnetic Transients Program (ATP-EMTP). The Seydişehir-Akseki-Varsak transmission line was selected as a case study. Results show that grounding improvements led to a significant reduction in the number of LEMP-related outages. Guy wires (GWs) enhanced the electromagnetic coupling between phase conductors and improved the dissipation of LEMP currents into the ground, thereby reducing the equivalent ground resistance. Due to the high cost of line surge arresters, the use of low-cost and easily deployable alternatives such as GWs is recommended. Further analysis on 400 kV transmission lines revealed that GW implementation reduced the flashover voltage at insulator terminals by up to 49%. These findings highlight the importance of cost-effective grounding methods in establishing reliable and sustainable power transmission infrastructure.

Gunes, Hüseyin; Bulbuloglu, Semra; Saritas, Serdar
Spiritual well-being may be among the most common feelings felt by living liver donors. The feeling that pushes an individual to good behavior may be spiritual well-being, and the feeling that emerges as a result of achieving goodness may be life satisfaction. In our study, we aimed to analyze the spiritual well-being and life satisfaction of living liver donors and to examine the relationship, if any, between spiritual well-being and life satisfaction. Our descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted with 306 living liver donors (n = 306). In the data collection process, we used a personal information form, the Spiritual Well-Being Scale, and the Satisfaction with Life Scale. In data analysis, we utilized descriptive statistical methods, one-way analysis of variance. Of all living liver donors participating in this study, 37.3% were aged 41–50 years, 73.5% were female, and 53.9% donated their liver to their spouse or child. The predictor variable of spiritual well-being was found to account for approximately 29% of the total variance in the predicted variable of life satisfaction. There was a positive and strong correlation between spiritual well-being and life satisfaction of living liver donors (p < 0.05). Spiritual well-being and life satisfaction of living liver donors are positively affected by each other. In order to provide more psychosocial support to these heroes who disregard their own health and try to save others’ lives, it is best practice to support their spiritual well-being, increase their life satisfaction and develop awareness about these two values. Erdem, Belgin; Kaya, Halil İbrahim; Tulumoğlu, Şener; Coteli, Ebru; Şimşek, Ömer
Fermented foods constitute a valuable source of probiotics for both bacteria and yeasts. To date, however, there has been a limited amount of research conducted on Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Kazakhstania servazzi, Kluyveromyces marxianus and Torulaspora delbrueckii isolated from tarhana. The objective of the research is to identify additional probiotic characteristics other than the leavening activity exhibited by yeasts that were previously isolated from tarhana fermentation. In this study, yeasts were subjected to subsequent acid and bile salt tolerance, bile salt hydrolysis, antagonistic activity, aggregation activity (auto-aggregation and co-aggregation), cholesterol assimilation, folate production, biofilm production, and hemolysis activity. S. cerevisiae PCF122, S. cerevisiae PCF107, and S. cerevisiae PCF134 strains grew at pH 2 and 2,5 but remained at pH 3. Except for S. cerevisiae PCF115 and T. delbrueckii PCF150, all yeasts were found to be 0,5% and 1,0% oxalate tolerant. All yeasts hydrolyze oxalate (bile salt), but only S. cerevisiae PCF115 and T. delbrueckii PCF150 produced EPS. Yeasts also exhibited significant amounts of autoaggregation (46–87%). After 24 and 48 h incubation, all strains assimilated cholesterol at rates ranging from 10,4% to 87,5% and 10,6–91%, respectively. The highest folate production was determined at S. cerevisiae PCF108 (56 µg/mL) and the lowest was at S. cerevisiae PCF110 and K. marxianus PFC120 (18 µg/mL). In conclusion, yeasts that existed in tarhana fermentation showed cholesterol assimilation, folate production, and aggregation activity which are additional probiotic attributes that would have consumer health promotion, beside these yeast leaven the tarhana dough.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ1An Examination of Factors Affecting Pre-service Science Teachers' Perceived Satisfaction Levels in Distance Education
Arici, Faruk; Salar, Rıza; Yilmaz, Rabia Meryem
With the advancement of technology, traditional classroom environments have been increasingly replaced by technology-driven learning settings. This transition has been further accelerated by global crises such as wars, health emergencies, and economic instability, pushing education beyond conventional boundaries. Among these settings, e-learning has significantly enhanced the accessibility and availability of education. This study aimed to examine the relationships between perceived satisfaction, learning outcomes, course structure, course content, instructor role, instructor feedback, and technology quality in e-learning. It also investigated the factors influencing university students' perceived satisfaction in both asynchronous and synchronous e-learning settings. The study involved 247 university students (47 males and 200 females) who participated in a one-year distance education program in science education. After attending synchronous and asynchronous courses for 14 weeks, data was collected. The findings revealed that students did not perceive distance education as more effective than face-to-face instruction. However, with an explained variance of 77%, the proposed model demonstrated that learning outcomes, course structure, course content, instructor role, instructor feedback, and technology quality significantly influenced perceived satisfaction. Among these, learning outcomes, course content, and technology quality had a direct impact. These findings highlight the need for educational institutions to enhance the quality of course content, technology infrastructure, and learning outcomes in e-learning environments to improve student satisfaction and engagement.

Merhan Muğlu, Günay; Şenay, Volkan; Saritaş, Sevda; Abdolahpour Salari, Maryam; Kundakçi, Mutlu
In this study, a Zn-doped iron oxide layer was deposited onto a microscope slide using the magnetron co-sputtering technique with direct current (DC) and radio frequency (RF) sources. We comprehensively characterized the resulting Zn-doped Fe2O3 thin layer, employing techniques such as XRD, Raman spectroscopy, UV–VIS spectrophotometry, SEM, EDX, & AFM. XRD examination showed the nanocrystalline structure in the thin layer under investigation. Based on recorded absorption data, the band gap energy value calculation resulted in a value of 2.23 eV for the thin film. Raman spectroscopy identified peaks possessing Raman shifts from 100 to 1400 cm−1. SEM investigation illustrated a consistently uniform thin film surface characteristic throughout the substrate. Additionally, the AFM study disclosed a small RMS roughness value, indicative of an unrough surface for the Zn: Fe2O3 thin layer. The Fe2O3 thin film doped with Zn employing a 30 W DC voltage demonstrated effective hydrogen sensing capability at 300 °C, achieving notable response and recovery time. This work presents a novel application of Zn-doped Fe2O3 thin films as highly sensitive and stable hydrogen sensors, tailored for high-temperature environments. The unique combination of nanocrystalline structure and Zn doping optimizes the material’s electronic properties, enhancing its responsiveness to hydrogen gas. This approach offers a scalable, cost-effective pathway for developing advanced sensor technologies suited to environmental monitoring, industrial safety, and hazardous gas detection, making it a valuable addition to the field of gas-sensing materials.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ2The Relationship Between Metacognitive Beliefs and Salivary Cortisol, BDNF, and NDNF Levels: A Cross-Sectional Study
Okur, Süheyb; Bayraktar, Bülent; Tosun Köse, Fatma
Purpose: The main objective of this study is to non-invasively investigate the relationship between metacognitive beliefs and cortisol, the primary stress output of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, as well as neurotrophic factors associated with neuroplasticity brain-derived neurotrophic factor and neuron-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF and NDNF). Within this framework, the hypotheses that negative metacognitions would be associated with increased cortisol and decreased BDNF levels, and that cortisol might play a mediating role in this relationship, were tested. Method: The study was designed in a cross-sectional model with 60 university students. Participants' metacognitive beliefs were measured using the Metacognitions Questionnaire-30 (MCQ-30). Salivary cortisol, BDNF, and NDNF levels were analyzed using the ELISA method. Pearson correlation and hierarchical multiple regression analyses were used for data analysis. Finding: The results showed a significant positive relationship between the total metacognition score and cortisol (r = 0.589, p < 0.01) and a strong negative relationship between cortisol and BDNF (r = −0.662, p < 0.01). Hierarchical regression analysis supported a partial mediation model, indicating that dysfunctional metacognitive beliefs have both a significant direct negative association with BDNF and an indirect association mediated by cortisol. In the final model, both metacognition (β = –0.298, p < 0.05) and cortisol (β = –0.281, p < 0.05) were significant factors associated with lower BDNF levels. NDNF showed a positive relationship with BDNF (r = 0.571) but not with other variables. Conclusion: These findings point to a psychobiological model where dysfunctional metacognitive beliefs are linked to suppressed neuroprotective mechanisms like BDNF, both directly and indirectly through HPA axis activation. The results shed light on the potential neurobiological mechanisms underlying the effectiveness of metacognitive therapies.

- Derleme MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ1Thawing frozen foods: A comparative review of traditional and innovative methods
Çalışkan Koç, Gülşah; Özkan Karabacak, Azime; Süfer, Özge; Adal, Samiye; Çelebi, Yasemin; Delikanlı Kıyak, Berrak; Öztekin, Sebahat
Due to the changing consumer lifestyles, the tendency to adopt foods that require less preparation time and offer both variety and convenience has played a significant role in the development of the frozen food industry. Freezing is one of the fundamental food preservation techniques, as it maintains high product quality. Freezing reduces chemical and enzymatic reactions, lowers water activity, and prevents microbial growth, thereby extending the shelf life of foods. The freezing and thawing procedures directly impact the quality of frozen foods. The degree of tissue damage is determined by the freezing rate and the structure of the ice crystals that form during the freezing process. Generally, thawing occurs more slowly than freezing. During thawing, microorganisms, as well as chemical and physical changes, can cause nutrient damage. Thus, the goal of this review is to identify innovative and optimal thawing strategies. In order to save energy and/or improve quality, new chemical and physical thawing aids are being developed alongside emerging techniques such as microwave-assisted, ohmic-assisted, high pressure, acoustic thawing, and so on. In addition to discussing the possible uses of these technologies for the thawing process and their effects on food quality, the purpose of this study is to present a thorough comparative overview of recent advancements in thawing techniques.

Background: Nutrient timing strategies may influence recovery and performance in athletes; however, the effects of ingesting casein protein before sleep versus immediately after exercise remain unclear. This study compared the acute effects of pre-sleep and post-exercise ingestion of casein on high-intensity anaerobic performance in highly trained soccer players. Methods: Twenty-four highly trained male soccer players (mean age: 20.6 ± 1.8 years) were randomly assigned to three groups: post-exercise casein ingestion group (PECIG; n = 8), pre-sleep casein ingestion group (PSCIG; n = 8), and control group (CG; n = 8). Following a standardized high-intensity resistance training protocol, participants consumed 30 g of micellar casein dissolved in 300 mL of water either immediately after exercise or 30–60 min before bedtime. Performance was assessed using the Countermovement Jump (CMJ), the Illinois Agility Test (IAT), and the Running-based Anaerobic Sprint Test (RAST), which were conducted both before and 24 h after the training session. Results: Repeated-measures ANOVA revealed significant group-by-time effects for CMJ (F = 8.21, p = 0.002, η2p = 0.36) and RAST performance variables, including peak power (F = 6.94, p = 0.003, η2p = 0.32), mean power (F = 7.42, p = 0.002, η2p = 0.34), and fatigue index (F = 5.87, p = 0.008, η2p = 0.28). Post hoc analyses showed that PSCIG significantly improved CMJ (Δ = +1.45 cm; p < 0.001, d = 2.04) and RAST mean power (Δ = +125.14 W; p = 0.002, d = 1.55) compared with the control condition. PECIG significantly enhanced RAST peak power (Δ = +205.79 W; p = 0.001, d = 1.64), mean power (Δ = +128.43 W; p = 0.013, d = 1.24), and fatigue index (Δ = +4.12 W/s; p = 0.010, d = 1.29) relative to CG. No performance differences were observed between PSCIG and PECIG timing conditions (all p > 0.05). Conclusions: Both pre-sleep and post-exercise casein ingestion enhanced anaerobic performance in highly trained soccer players, with each timing method favoring different performance outcomes. However, neither strategy demonstrated superiority over the other, suggesting that casein timing may be flexibly applied according to athletes’ preferences and training contexts.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ3Seed morphology of some Eremogone species (Caryophyllaceae) from Türkiye
Tokuşoğlu, Kader Varlik; Armağan, Metin; Bülbül, Ali Savaş
The present research deals with the taxonoy of the genus Eremogone, using morphology of seed; the species occurring in Türkiye are examined. Nineteen characters (qualitative and quantitative) were observed or measured using light microscopy and Scanning Electron Microscopy; statistical analyses considered are PCA and Clustering. The average length of Eremogone seeds was 1756 μm (1168–2569 μm), and the average width was 1148 μm (866–1674 μm). Seed shape, based on the seed length-to-width ratio, ranged from spherical to prolate spheroidal. Seed colors varied from yellowish-brown to dark brown-black. The seed coat surface was covered with tubercles, and the dorsal surface of the seed was covered with papillae ranging from 27 to 146 in length. The identified potential characters contribute to the delimitation of the Turkish species of Ermogone; a diangostic key is proposed.

Background: The importance of dynamic and static stretching exercises on motoric abilities before an athletic performance is well known. However, there is limited information about their effects on balance performance. For this reason, this study aimed to investigate the acute effects of static and dynamic stretching exercises on wrestlers’ balance performance and compare wrestlers’ balance levels according to their wrestling styles. Method: A total of 28 wrestlers who performed dynamic stretching (n = 14) and static stretching (n = 14) protocols voluntarily participated in the study. Data were collected using Togu Challenge Disc 2.0. An independent samples t-test was applied to compare the data that were determined to show normal distribution. Results: When comparing dynamic balance according to warm-up protocols, it was found that there was a significant difference in favor of wrestlers who performed dynamic stretching (p = 0.023). However, no statistically significant difference was found between static and dynamic stretching groups in terms of static balance (p = 0.238). Additionally, while a significant difference was observed in the wrestlers’ dynamic balance scores in both dynamic and static stretching exercises in favor of freestyle wrestlers (p = 0.008; p = 0.022), a significant difference was found in static balance scores in favor of Greco-Roman wrestlers (p = 0.014; p = 0.018). Conclusion: Dynamic stretching exercises were found to support wrestlers’ balance performance more than static stretching. The results showed that the different warm-up protocols applied before training and competition can have different effects on the wrestlers’ performance. Therefore, it is suggested that wrestlers should prefer warm-up protocols including dynamic stretching exercises to optimize pre-performance balance outcomes.
