Investigation of Structural Characteristics and Flock Management Practices of Sheep Breeding Farms: The Alaca District of Çorum Province Example

Bayraktar, Bülent; Aydemir, Seyma; Kotan, Gökşad Cemil; Küçük, Gülben

The aim of this study is to comprehensively examine the structural characteristics and herd management practices of sheep farms in Alaca district of Çorum province and to reveal their current status through a survey conducted on 130 sheep farms. The study revealed that the breeder population in the sector is concentrated in young (18-30 years old) and middle-aged (31-40 years old), with the younger generation actively participating in the sector. The vast majority of breeders view livestock farming as their primary source of income, with a predominant portion of their farms focusing on slaughter and sacrificial animal husbandry. While basic facilities such as resting areas, lighting, and ventilation are largely adequate, the lack of specialized enclosures necessary for modern herd management, such as sick animal pens (48.46%), milking parlors (86.92%), and shearing areas (100.00%), is striking. In terms of herd management practices, the most common age for first mating for females was 15 months. Rams are kept in the flock only during the breeding season in the majority of farms, and the most frequently used breeding method is reported to be free-breeding (pen breeding/pasture breeding). Underweight birth was identified as the primary cause of lamb mortality at 46.92%. Although the vast majority of farms regularly administer official vaccinations, only a small percentage conduct regular hoof checks and care, highlighting deficiencies in preventative herd protection practices. Furthermore, although almost all breeders use village communal pastures or highland pastures, 90.00% of breeders believe pastures are inadequate, primarily attributing this inadequacy to the small size of pasture areas.  In conclusion, despite its young and well-organized Sheep sector in Çorum, it exhibits significant deficiencies in modern herd management infrastructure and preventative herd protection practices, and faces a critical pasture availability problem. Therefore, to ensure sustainability and enhance competitiveness, it is crucial for local governments to encourage pasture improvement and forage production, as well as expand grant/support mechanisms for the development of modern shelter infrastructure.

Econometric Analysis of Causal Relationship Between External Debt and Inflation in Türkiye: Frequency Domain Causality Approach

    Yıldız, Ümit; Bayramoglu, Turgut

The primary objective of this study is to examine the causal nexus between external debt and inflation in Türkiye and to determine whether this relationship is persistent or transitory. Using quarterly data on total external debt stock and the consumer price index for the 2004Q01–2025Q01 period, this study analyzes causal relationships across the short, medium, and long run within the frequency-domain causality framework. According to the empirical results, no causal relationship from inflation to external debt is detected in any period; however, a unidirectional causality exists from external debt to inflation in the short and medium run, although this relationship does not hold in the long run. The study's findings indicate that external debt is a driver of inflation in Türkiye, but the causal relationship is not persistent. These results offer significant implications for anti-inflationary policies and debt management strategies.

Measuring of Metacognition in Problem-Posing: Standardization of the Metacognition in Problem-Posing Scale

Öztürk, Mesut; Sarikaya, İsmail; Albayrak, Mustafa

While research on metacognition in mathematics education has grown recently, it has primarily focused on problem- solving, with little attention given to problem-posing. However, problem-posing also involves complex metacognitive processes that warrant deeper investigation. This study addresses this gap by developing and validating a new instrument to assess metacognition in problem-posing among middle school students. The metacognition in problem-posing Scale is an eight-item measure encompassing three factors: planning, monitoring, and evaluation. The study was conducted using a scale-development design within a survey research framework, and data were collected through a two-stage simple random sampling. Psychometric analyses confirmed the scale’s reliability and its construct validity. The metacognition in problem-posing Scale offers a promising tool for exploring students’ metacognitive engagement in problem-posing tasks and has potential applications in both research and classroom settings.

Exploratory Proteomic Analysis of Rhododendron ponticum Bee Pollen Based on High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry

    Ecem Bayram, Nesrin; Celik, Saffet

Bee pollen is a bee product that is widely preferred by people for its nutritional properties as well as its health-protective properties, and is defined as a ‘superfood’. In this preliminary exploratory study, monofloral Rhododendron ponticum bee pollen was analyzed using a label-free LC-QTOF-MS proteomic approach. According to the results obtained, a total of 37 proteins from the rhododendron plant have been fully confirmed in the pollen sample. Normalized spectrum counting values (NSAF) providing information about the semi-quantitative amount of these proteins were determined to be between 120.84 and 43259.22. Based on these findings, it can be said that the proteomic approach can provide biomarkers for monitoring the botanical source and quality of monofloral bee pollen. However, since no biological or technical replicate study was conducted, the findings obtained are exploratory in nature and should be considered semi-quantitative. To our knowledge, this study is the first to report the protein profile of R. ponticum bee pollen using a proteomic approach.

The Conception of Sunnism and Debates on Sectarian Identity in Farīd al-Dīn ʿAṭṭār’s Manṭiq al-Ṭayr

    Sever, Mehmet

This study examines the life, works, and, in particular, the sectarian identity of Farid al-Din Attar, one of the most influential figures of thirteenth-century Islamic thought and Sufi literature, whose affiliation has long been debated in academic scholarship. Attar’s sectarian belonging has become open to speculation primarily through works such as Mazhar al-Ajaib and Heaft Vadi, which were attributed to him by Shi‘i biographical writers but have been shown by modern research to be apocryphal. Although these claims are generally grounded in the pronounced devotion to the Ahl al-Bayt and the gnostic attachment to Ali evident in Attar’s writings, Mantiq al-Tayr, regarded as his principal masterpiece, provides doctrinal clarity with respect to these debates. The article offers a detailed analysis of the eulogies composed by Attar for the Four Caliphs (the Rightly Guided Caliphs) in the preface of Mantiq al-Tayr. While portraying Abu Bakr as the center of loyalty and Sufi spiritual authority, Umar as the criterion of justice and truth, Uthman as a source in which modesty and knowledge converge, and Ali as the gate of spiritual authority and gnosis, Attar remains faithful to the hierarchical and historical framework of legitimacy upheld by the Sunni Islamic tradition. His understanding of Sunnism is not confined to a narrow juridical framework; rather, it is grounded in a gnostic perspective shaped by the Khurasan-Nishapur milieu, one that places devotion to the Ahl al-Bayt at its core and reconciles the concept of spiritual authority with Sunni creed. As a result, the study demonstrates that although Attar employs a suprasectarian language, he emerges as one of the most significant representatives of the Sunni Sufi paradigm at the level of fundamental belief.

Analysıs of asymmetrıc relatıonshıps between ınflatıon and trade openness ın türkiye: evıdence from the hıdden coıntegratıon test for the perıod 1975-2024

    Yıldız, Ümit

This study analyzes the long-term relationships between inflation and trade openness in Türkiye. Using annual data from 1975 to 2024, the study employs annual percentage change in the consumer price index to represent inflation, and the share of total trade in gross domestic product to represent trade openness. Long-term cointegration relationships between the variables are examined using the Engle & Granger (1987) cointegration method and the Granger & Yoon (2002) hidden cointegration method. The findings from the Engle & Granger (1987) test reveal a long-term cointegration relationship from inflation to trade openness in Türkiye during the relevant period. Meanwhile, the Granger & Yoon (2002) test detects hidden cointegration relationships from the positive and negative components of inflation to the negative components of trade openness. Following the identification of hidden cointegration relationships, long-term coefficients are estimated using FMOLS, DOLS, and CCR estimators. According to the estimation results, a 1-unit increase in the positive components of inflation causes a decrease of approximately 0.26 units in the negative components of trade openness. Conversely, a 1-unit increase in the negative components of inflation increases the negative components of trade openness by approximately 0.22 units. In general, the findings indicate that increases in inflation during the relevant period reduced the contraction in trade openness in Türkiye, while decreases deepened it.

Does Passive Recovery Preserve Shot Speed and Enhance Metabolic Recovery? An Acute Comparison in Female Football Players

Güder, Ferhat; Akman, Onur; Sever, Hasan

This study aimed to compare the effects of active and passive recovery protocols applied after fatigue on performance and physiological responses in female soccer players. Ten female soccer players (n = 10) playing for the Bayburt University women’s soccer team and having at least six years of soccer experience participated in the study. To induce fatigue, a 10 × 20 m repeated sprint test protocol (RSTP) was applied. Using a crossover design, participants completed this protocol in two separate sessions with a 48-hour interval, applying either an active or a passive recovery strategy between sprints. Blood lactate levels were measured before the RSTP, immediately after, and 5 minutes post-exercise, while shooting velocity was assessed before and after the RSTP. The results indicated no significant differences between active and passive recovery conditions in terms of pre-test shooting velocity, resting lactate levels, total sprint time, and ratings of perceived exertion for the first seven repetitions (p > 0.05). In contrast, significant differences in favour of passive recovery were observed for post-test and 5- minute lactate levels, sprint time in the 9th repetition, mean heart rate, and ratings of perceived exertion for the 8th and 10th repetitions (p < 0.05). Additionally, the decrease in shooting velocity following passive recovery was lower than that observed after active recovery. These findings suggest that passive recovery following short-distance repeated sprints may be more advantageous than active recovery in female soccer players in terms of preserving technical performance and reducing cardiovascular and metabolic load.

Thinking Through Russell’s Paradox: Logical, Epistemological, and Pedagogical Transformations in Pre-Service Teachers

    Aksakalli, Ayhan

This study examines how the paradoxical structure of set theory introduced by Bertrand Russell affects the thinking skills and pedagogical awareness of pre-service teachers. Conducted within a qualitative research framework, the study involved 30 mathematics education students enrolled in the faculty of education at a public university. The participants engaged in a multilayered instructional process structured around Russell’s Paradox. Observation notes, individual reflection forms, group discussions, and focus group interviews were used as data collection tools, and the obtained data were analyzed through thematic analysis. The findings reveal that the paradox generated transformations in pre-service teachers at the levels of conceptual rupture, logical reorganization, and pedagogical awareness. It was observed that Russell’s Paradox became not only a theoretical logical construct but also a powerful learning tool that triggered epistemological inquiry. In this context, the study suggests that paradoxes may offer significant contributions to teacher education by fostering critical thinking, developing strategies for coping with contradiction, and supporting the construction of teacher identity.

Development and Validation of the Self-Regulated Teaching Scale (SRTS)

    Akeren, İhsan

Quality education depends on the interaction among the student, the teacher, and the curriculum. Within this process, teachers play a central role in planning instruction, implementing teaching, and evaluating learning. In this context, self-regulated teaching refers to the deliberate regulation of teaching practices across the planning, implementation, and evaluation phases. This study aimed to develop and validate a scale measuring teachers’ self-regulated teaching skills on the basis of Zimmerman’s Self-Regulated Learning Model (Z’SRLM). An exploratory sequential mixed-methods design was employed. Qualitative data from three focus group discussions with 12 teachers were used to generate the item pool, yielding three dimensions: planning, implementation, and evaluation. After expert review and a clarity check with 75 teachers, exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was conducted with 226 teachers and produced a 17-item, three-factor structure. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) with an independent sample of 394 teachers supported the final modified three-factor model (χ²/df = 1.374, CFI = .962, TLI = .955, IFI = .963, RMSEA = .031, SRMR = .038). The correlated three-factor and second-order representations yielded equivalent global fit, and additional model-based indices indicated that the total score retained meaningful psychometric value as a complementary global indicator, although the scale was interpreted primarily at the subdimension level. Criterion-related validity was examined with 207 teachers using the Classroom Management Skills Scale (CMSS), and the correlations were positive and statistically significant (r = .438-.751, p < .001). Internal consistency coefficients ranged from acceptable to high across subdimensions, model-based indices supported cautious interpretation of the total score, and test-retest findings indicated acceptable temporal stability. Overall, the findings support the validity and reliability of the Self-Regulated Teaching Scale for use in research on teachers’ instructional practices.

Investigating the Relationship Between Technology-Related Variables and Middle School Students’ Self-Regulation and Self-Directed Learning with Technology

    Akeren, İhsan; Yetişensoy, Okan

Self-regulation and self-directedness have recently become closely associated with technology. The aim of this study is to examine middle school students’ levels of self-regulation skills and self-directed learning (SDL) with technology in terms of technology-related variables. The study was conducted using the cross-sectional correlational survey design, and the participant group consisted of 468 middle school students. The study revealed that middle school students' self-regulation skills and their levels of SDL with technology significantly varied based on how frequently they used e-learning platforms outside of school, in favor of those who used them more frequently. It was also determined that students' self- regulation skills and their SDL with technology significantly differed based on their purpose of technology use, and students who used technology for educational purposes had significantly higher self-regulation skills and SDL with technology compared to those who used it primarily for communication or entertainment. The study also revealed that middle school students' self-regulation skills did not significantly differ based on their AI usage competence. However, their self-directed learning with technology levels significantly varied by this variable, with higher competence corresponding to higher SDL with technology. Additionally, the analysis showed that there was no statistically significant difference in self-regulation skills or SDL with technology based on levels of access to technology. At this point, it is recommended that students be trained to use e-learning platforms outside of school and to employ technologies for educational purposes in order to enhance their levels of self-regulation and self-directedness. Furthermore, educating children on how to use GenAI tools such as ChatGPT more effectively in their self-regulated learning processes can also be presented as an important recommendation. At this point, it can be argued that, in addition to computer science courses, subjects like social studies that incorporate technology-related content may also serve these purposes.

Preschool Teachers' Awareness of Climate Change: Educational Considerations to Global Issues

Korkmaz, Halil İbrahim; Kahraman, Pinar Bagceli; Tutkun, Cansu; Bayraktar, Vedat; Altin Yontem, Gulden

Climate change is a significant global issue affecting many areas of life, and how this topic is addressed in early childhood is closely related to teachers' awareness and practices. This research is a qualitative study conducted to examine preschool teachers' awareness of climate change and how they reflect this awareness in their classroom practices. Twenty-one preschool teachers participated in the study, and data were collected through semi-structured interviews. The findings show that teachers mostly understand climate change in terms of global problems and observable environmental effects, while focusing on human-induced behaviors and industrialization in their explanations of the causes. Teachers' individual measures are mostly limited to daily practices such as recycling and energy conservation; participation in voluntary and collective environmental activities is low. The vast majority of teachers consider themselves partially adequate in raising children's awareness of climate change and express difficulties, particularly in concretizing abstract concepts, ensuring family participation, and instilling conscious consumption habits. Classroom activities are mostly limited to weather observations and recycling-based activities. These findings reveal significant limitations in the pedagogical deepening of preschool teachers' awareness of climate change; they indicate that teachers need to be empowered with field-specific, practice-based, and pedagogically focused professional support in order for climate change education to be effectively addressed at the early childhood level.

Attitudes of Sport Sciences Students Toward the Use of Humour in Education

    Çakır, Zekai

This study examines pre-service physical education teachers' attitudes toward using humour in education based on various demographic variables. Significant differences were found according to participants' gender, level of physical activity, daily use of humour, family humour climate, academic department, and year of study. Data were analyzed using SPSS 27 through t-tests, ANOVA, and Cohen's d. The reliability of the attitude scale was confirmed with a Cronbach's alpha of .842. The findings indicate that female participants showed more positive attitudes than males. Likewise, individuals who exercise regularly, use humour in daily life and were raised in urban environments exhibited more favourable attitudes toward educational humour. Those interested in team sports also demonstrated more positive attitudes than individual sports participants. A clear trend was observed in which attitudes improved as academic levels increased. These results highlight humour's pedagogical value in the classroom, including enhancing attention, reducing anxiety, improving motivation, and strengthening interaction. Therefore, teacher education programs should integrate content aimed at the ethical and constructive use of humour. The study concludes that humour is a multifaceted instructional tool influenced by individual and contextual factors.

Bayraktar, Bülent; Tekce, Emre; Aydemir, Seyma; Kotan, Gökşad Cemil; Kebapcı, Eren

This study examined the general structure of cattle farming operations enterprises in the central district of Çorum city center and the basic care and feeding practices of breeders based on a survey conducted on 130 cattle enterprises between May and June 2023. Cattle enterprises in Çorum city center are generally small to medium-sized; 43.08% of these operations have a capacity of 11-30 animals, while 71.54% are owned by the breeders themselves. Breeders in these operations are predominantly male (82.31%), with the largest age group being between 31 and 40 years old, at 36.15%. Livestock farming is the population source of income for 83.85% of breeders, and their education levels are increasing, with 32.31% of breeders now high school graduates. Breeders combine family knowledge with information from official institutions and organizations as a source of knowledge and experience, and 58.46% rely on experience in their livestock feeding decisions. Animals are generally fed twice a day, with a 90% mix of roughage and concentrate, while automatic waterers (48.46%) are preferred for providing drinking water. However, since 67.69% of concentrate needs are met externally, there is external dependency, and 81.54% of breeders face a pasture shortage. 60.77% of the barns are located adjacent to or below the house, and reinforced concrete (67.69%) is used as the construction material. Regarding cleaning practices, straw (73.85%) is the most preferred bedding material in the barns, general cleaning is done 1-3 times a year, and manure is removed manually and deposited in the open areas (86.15%). 86.15% of breeders are members of breeder associations, and the most frequently received support is pedigree and preliminary pedigree support (89.23%). 68.46% of enterprises maintain an animal registration system. As a result, cattle enterprises in Çorum have a structure that combines traditional methods with modern practices. The breeders' high organizational awareness and propensity for record keeping indicate that the sector has potential for future growth. However, further improvements are needed in areas such as the use of professional nutrition resources and manure management.

Impact of Phytobiotic Supplementation Administered in Drinking Water on Meat Quality in Heat-Stressed Broilers

    Kaya, Hacer; Kamiloğlu, Aybike

This study evaluated the effects of a phytobiotic additive, hawthorn fruit extract (HFE), administered via drinking water on meat quality of broilers subjected to heat stress (HS). A total of 300 one-day-old broiler chicks were distributed into six experimental groups according to a 2×3 factorial design after a one-week acclimation period, with five replicates of 10 chicks each. Chicks had ad libitum access to feed and water for the duration of the 42-day trial and were exposed to a 24-hour lighting program. HS decreased the b* color value of breast meat while increasing L* and a* values and pH of thigh meat. Cooking loss (CL) of both breast and thigh meat was reduced, whereas water-holding capacity (WHC) remained unaffected. HS did not significantly alter thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances (TBARS), total saturated fatty acids (ΣSFA), or total unsaturated fatty acids (ΣUFA), but decreased monounsaturated fatty acids (ΣMUFA) and increased emulsion stability (ES) and polyunsaturated fatty acids (ΣPUFA). Adding HFE to the drinking water did not influence breast meat pH or color intensity, but WHC improved in breast meat with 0.2 mL/L HFE and in thigh meat at both HFE concentrations. The 0.4 mL/L HFE dose increased ΣSFA and decreased ΣUFA and ΣPUFA levels, while ΣMUFA decreased at both HFE concentrations. Overall, HFE supplementation mitigated several adverse effects of HS, notably enhancing ES and reducing redness of thigh meat. These findings suggest that HFE can be an effective phytobiotic strategy to improve meat quality in broilers under thermal stress conditions.
