The subject of the research was determined as the place and importance of folk dances in Turkish folklore. The aim of the research is to reveal the place and importance of folk dances and music, which are among the phenomena in Turkish folklore, in Turkish folklore. The method of the research is a descriptive study and the current situation was tried to be revealed by examining the scientific sources obtained through the scanning method. The importance of the research is considered important in terms of revealing the place and importance of folk dances and music, which are an important element of Turkish culture and civilization, in folklore. Folklore and culture are related to each other due to their similar nature. It constitutes traditional products (customs, traditions, language, religion, oral and written and architectural art, sports, literature, etc.) belonging to the national and spiritual elements of a society with a cultural history in a certain period. Folklore, on the other hand, is a science that researches, examines and compiles the cultural products produced in the past by delving into unknown historical depths to which society and which period they belong. Folk dances are also a culture-art phenomenon within folklore. Folk dances, which are among the Turkish folkloric elements, carry the cultural phenomena that the Turkish nation has revealed throughout its five thousand years of life, from its emergence on the stage of history to the present day. Turks have existed in many different geographies in the world and as a result, Turkish folklore has revealed the products of a very rich cultural accumulation. Among these products, folk dances have an important place. Folk dances are distributed in different types according to regions in Turkey. This distribution has brought great diversity to folk dances and contributed to Turkish folklore. As a result, folk dances, as an intangible cultural heritage, contribute to Turkish folklore by showing their presence in Turkey's geography with different types and diversity qualities, especially the rich accumulation that the Turks have acquired from the time period when they appeared on the stage of history until today. In this direction, the research tried to reveal the place and importance of folk dances in Turkish folklore, taking into account the contributions of our folk dances in Turkish folklore.

Assessment, evaluation, and feedback in online education with artificial intelligence-supported tools

    Kayali, Bünyami; Balat, Şener

The increasing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications in educational activities is also evident in online education. By providing personalised and adaptive learning experiences and offering support for teachers by tracking student behaviours to make inferences about student success and performance, AI reduces teachers' workload, allowing them to focus more on educational activities. AI applications especially enable the rapid and easy completion of assessment and evaluation activities, which teachers often spend significant time and effort on. Within this scope, AI-supported tools are used in online education activities to perform automatic assessments, provide real-time feedback, and conduct data analysis and performance evaluation activities. In this context, the aim of the study is determined as the examination of measurement, evaluation, and feedback activities in online education with AI-supported tools.

Analyzing of continuous and discontinuous contact problems of a functionally graded layer: theory of elasticity and finite element method

Yaylacı, Murat; Öner, Erdal; Adıyaman, Gökhan; Öztürk, Şevval; Uzun Yaylacı, Ecren; Birinci, Ahmet

Contact mechanics analysis is crucial because such problems often arise in engineering practice. When examining contact mechanics, the material property of the contacting components is a crucially significant aspect. It is more complex to solve the contact mechanics of systems that are composed of materials that do not have a homogenous structure compared to materials that have homogeneous qualities throughout. While many studies on contact problems with homogeneous materials exist, those involving non-homogeneous materials are scarce in the literature. As material technology improves fast, there will be a greater need to solve such problems. In this respect, analytical and finite element method (FEM) solutions of the continuous and discontinuous contact problems of a functionally graded (FG) layer are carried out in this article. The FG layer in the problem rests on a rigid foundation and is pressed with a rigid punch. From the solutions, the contact length, contact stress, initial separation distance, and beginning and ending points of separation were determined, and the results were compared. It has been concluded that the FEM findings are consistent with the analytical results to a satisfactory degree. This study analyzes contact problem using different approaches and accounts for the influence of body force in a contact geometry that has yet to be reported.

Dynamic Angular Velocity Load-Based Energy Harvesting Analysis for Different Blade Angles and Polarization Directions of Smart Blades

    Uyar, M.

Energy consumption and control of electrical devices in flying electric vehicles with propellers such as drones are important for the continuity of the movement process. With this motivation, the piezoelectric energy harvesting performances of the smart drone propeller and smart wind blades are evaluated in order to obtain electrical energy from lead zirconate titanate (PZT) material placed on the propellers. Initially, the effect of smart wind blades with different blade angles on energy harvesting analysis is examined. The energy harvesting performances of the converse (z polarization) and shearing movements (y polarization) of the PZT material placed on the wind blades are compared under different angular rotational velocities. Then, the power outputs obtained depending on the sensor responses of the smart drone propeller with different resistance gains are evaluated according to the polarization directions. The maximum and minimum power output values obtained from the smart drone propeller at 12,000 rpm rotation velocity are measured as about 0.086 and 0.008 W, respectively. The results show that the energy harvesting performance of the z-polarized smart propeller is more effective than the y polarization, and the amount of energy obtained with the increase in the endpoint vibration amplitudes increases as the rotation speed increases.

Effect of sesame protein/PVA nanofibers on oil separation and rheological properties in sesame paste

    Yuzer, Mustafa Onur; Genccelep, Huseyin

This study aimed to prevent or minimize the oil phase separation that occurs during storage (0-90 days) of sesame paste at room temperature. In order to determine the changes during storage in the sesame paste samples, the zeta potential, rheological properties, and the separated oil ratio were determined. Significant (p < 0.01) effects of applied storage time and additives on the amount of oil separated in sesame pastes were determined. The oil separated in sesame paste samples varied between 3.83% and 16.29%. While the rate of separated oil increased three times in the control group over time, it showed an insignificant (p > 0.05) increase especially in the samples where 2% nanofiber was added. It was determined that the separation of the oil phase from the structure could be prevented up to 24.73% with the addition of SPI and up to 63.02% with addition of SPINL (nanofiber containing protein isolate) compared to the control. Practical applications: During storage, the particles in the sesame paste tend to precipitate, causing oil separation and residue cake, thus negatively affecting the acceptability of consumers. Additives were added in order to prevent or minimize oil phase separation, which occurs in sesame paste stored at room temperature and is not desired by consumers. As additives, nanofibers containing sesame proteins produced by the electrospinning method and sesame protein isolates (SPIs) were added. Added additives acted by preventing the separation of the oil phase from the structure. It has been determined that the addition of SPI to sesame pastes does not completely prevent the problem of oil separation in sesame paste, but is effective in delaying and reducing it. Since the oil decomposition can be reduced, the amount of oil separated and therefore the part that can sink to the bottom will decrease, so sesame paste will be consumed more appropriately and will contribute to the country's economy.

Synergistic Strategies for Overcoming Salt Stress in Strawberry Farming: The Use of Organic Fertilizers and Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR)

Yavuz, Aysegul; Erdogan, Ummugulsum; Turan, Metin; Argın, Sanem; Kocaman, Ayhan

The study was carried out under salt-stress conditions, and three non-microbial commercial organic fertilizers purchased from Humintech GmbH (Grevenbroich, Germany) were applied to the soil for strawberry plants. The three promoters were Fulvagra®, based on fulvic acid, Liqhumus®, based on humic acid, and Microsense Root®, also based on humic acid. Treatment with Fulvagra® resulted in a remarkable 69.90% increase in average fruit weight and a 39.52% increase in yield in strawberry plants. These improvements remained significant when combined with plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR), resulting in a 61.81% increase in fruit weight and a 45.21% increase in yield. Liqhumus® treatment resulted in a significant 49.95% increase in fruit weight and a 39.30% increase in fruit yield. The introduction of PGPR further enhanced these effects by increasing fruit weight by 87.70% and yield by 63.84%. The Microsense Root® treatment showed 31.07 and 61.87% improvements for the respective parameters. In conjunction with this treatment, the use of PGPR produced the most significant results, with increases of 121.14 and 65.37% for respective parameters. These results indicate that the combined use of non-microbial commercial organic fertilizers with PGPR leads to higher efficiency and is promising for sustainable agricultural practices, particularly in improving the resistance of strawberry plants to salt-induced stress.

Afghans ante portas: Looking at immigrants in Turkiye through google's peephole

    Keskin, Savaş; Kömür, Gökhan

Bauman"s approach, conceptualised as "strangers at out door/ante portas", requires a relationship that requires us to look at immigrants from inside the door. This study focuses on how Afghans, who are collectively expected to be hated as the new "dangerous" strangers, appear in Turkiye. The images pro-vided by Google searches become a suffcient "peephole" through which to collectively see and imagine Afghans. This is because the "peephole" metaphor encompasses a symbolic context in which the fear of the "strangers at out door (ante portas)", the desire to see/observe them, and the parallax effect can be symbolically represented at a common root. In the study, by typing "Afghans" and "Afghan Migrants" in Turkish into the Google search bar, the visual (photographic) search results are used to establish relationships with alienation and otherness in the visual representation of Afghan identity.

Enhanced thermal and angular velocity-induced hybrid piezoelectric energy harvesting of smart turbine blades

    Uyar, Mehmet

In this study, an approach is proposed to examine hybrid piezoelectric energy harvesting performances from vibrations induced by thermal and angular velocity loads in order to generate energy from the smart turbine blade. In the proposed method, a smart turbine blade is formed by patching the piezoelectric material to the root surface of the turbine blade. A finite element (FE) model of the smart turbine blade is established and then it is validated with a smart blade model in a reference study to test the reliability and accuracy of the FE method. The defined loads are applied to the smart blade to obtain energy from mechanical vibrations induced by thermal and angular velocity loads. Temperature distribution, voltage, and vibration results obtained from energy harvesting analysis under different thermal and angular velocity loads are presented. In order to investigate the energy conversion efficiency of the energy obtained from the system, the energy harvesting circuit is tested in terms of battery discharge times and power output values. The results show that while the maximum energy conversion in the thermally induced smart turbine blade is 11.9 W, a power output of 12.3 W is obtained from the hybrid energy harvesting mechanism under angular velocity and heat flux loads.

Comparison of Superconducting Properties of Bulk MgB2 Samples with Pyrene Additive Produced by B Powder and C encapsulated B Powder

    Erdem, Özge

In this paper, the advantages and disadvantages of using B powder and C encapsulated B powder as a precursor during the production process of MgB2 with the addition of pyrene (C16H10) were investigated. Two MgB2 bulk samples with the addition of 10 wt % C16H10 of 1 g MgB2 were produced by the in-situ method using B powder and C encapsulated B powder. The C encapsulated B powder as a precursor was prepared by adding 10% C16H10 as a C source. From XRD and SEM analysis, a greater increase in MgO phase and a greater decrease in a-lattice parameter were observed for the sample produced with B, compared to the sample produced with C encapsulated B. The curves of critical current density (Jc) at 5 K showed a similar character for both samples. The Jc values at 5 K in self field were respectively obtained as 1.52 × 105 A/cm2 and 1.90 × 105 A/cm2 for the samples produced by B and C encapsulated B. The decrement ratio of in-field Jc at 20 K was less affected by increasing magnetic field for the sample produced using C encapsulated B due to the relatively higher increase in the irreversibility field (Hirr) and the upper critical magnetic field (Hc2) values. The Jc values at 20 K and 3 T were respectively determined as 1.49 × 104 A/cm2 and 1.93 × 104 A/cm2 for the samples produced with B and C encapsulated B.

Wet mechanochemical surface modification of calcite employing an integration of conventional design and analytical hierarchy process

    Uçurum, Metin; Özdemir, Akın

The demand for ultra-fine mineral powders from various industries requires the applications of wet grinding and surface modification. In this study, wet mechanochemical surface modification of micronized calcite (d50 = 4.92 μm) with stearic acid [CH3(CH2)16COOH] was carried out in a planetary ball mill. The seven parameters were specified: ball filling ratio (%), ball size distribution ratio (10 and 15 mm, %), micronized calcite filling ratio (%), pulp solid ratio (wt%), mill speed (rpm), stearic acid dosage (% of micronized calcite) and modification time (min). Then, these parameters were optimized using a conventional experimental design when maximizing the active ratio (%) as a significant value for coated calcite. Besides, the analytical hierarchy process was applied to observe the importance of each parameter. Stearic acid dosage, mill speed, and micronized calcite filling ratio are the top three parameters affecting the active ratio. Next, size distribution, XRF, XRD, SEM, FTIR, TGA-DTA, contact angle, and whiteness measurements were performed on the micronized calcite (MC) and coated micronized calcite (CMC) samples. The final CMC product had a 99.90% active ratio, 2.49 μm mean (d50) particle size, and 101.66o contact angle. Finally, CMC obtained by the surface modification can be used as a filler mineral.

A comparative anatomical study on leaf and scape of Androsace taxa (Primulaceae): contribution to Androsace taxonomy

Ulcay, Sibel; Sefali, Abdurahman; Yapar, Yakup; Demir, İbrahim; Gıdık, Betül

In the present study, the leaf and scape anatomical features of ten Androsace taxa distributed in Türkiye were defined to contribute to plant identification. Hand sections from both the scape and leaf examined 43 anatomical characters. Principal component analysis (PCA) and hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) were performed for the first time for Androsace. The results show that there are differences as well as similarities between Androsace species. It is noteworthy that Androsace artvinensis forms a separate main group with HCA. In addition, the fact that two of the five basic components are represented by a single variable according to the PCA results suggests that the anatomical characters examined are determinative for Androsace taxa.). In PCA, eigenvalues of PC1 (2.435), PC2 (1.749), PC3 (1.369), PC4 (1.223), and PC5 (1.006) were greater than 1.0. Cortex width, aerenchyma, arrangement of vascular bundles, and four-branched non-glandular hairs are among the important anatomical characteristics of the scape. Leaf cross-sectional shape, epidermis dimensions, glandular hair types, presence of five branched non-glandular hairs, stoma sizes, presence of crystals in the mesophyll, and types are among the qualitative and quantitative anatomical characteristics that attract attention in the leaf. This study examined almost all taxa of the genus Androsace distributed in Türkiye. The results will be important in finding new species among the examined taxa and revealing the anatomical features of the taxa for the first time. They will contribute to other studies on the genus.

A hybrid method for determining the export sector and product for Turkey: Bayesian econometrics and multi-criteria decision analysis

    Ozden, Erdemalp; Yaprakli, Sevda

Developing economies need to support strategic sectors that will transform their productive structures to ensure development. Therefore, the ability of these strategic sectors to produce exportable products is essential. This study follows a different path to determine strategically important export sector and products for Turkey, one of the countries struggling with the middle-income trap for a while. This different path is a hybrid method by combining the results of Bayesian econometrics with the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) method, one of the multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) methods. As a result, the export sector that should be prioritized is transportation, and export products are cars and vehicle parts. By applying the hybrid method in this study to other countries, strategic sectors and goods can be determined.

    Marketing of green energy

    Yilmazel, Sefa Emra

After the 1970s, the issue of green energy started to come to the fore more after the oil crisis (Hartmann and Ibanez, 2012). Thus, consumers were made more conscious about energy consumption, and those who had the opportunity were directed to many types of green energy such as renewable energy sources, solar, thermal, and wind energy (Shi, Wei, and Shahbaz, 2023). Currently, some consumers accept to pay a premium price for green energy. Increasing the number of these consumers will produce important outputs such as protecting nature, preventing the climate crisis, and protecting energy resources in the future (Jabeen, Ahmad, and Zhang, 2021). In this direction, many governments around the world encourage producers of renewable energy and take effective steps. Although it is notsufficient at the moment, it is predicted that much higher amounts of green energy will be produced in the future with the steps taken in this regard (Leijten et al. 2014). Therefore, it will be sufficient not only to increase the amount of green energy production but also to increase the number of consumers directed to green energy. In particular, higher production costs appear to be an important factor that delays consumers' adoption of green energy (Sundt and Rehdanz, 2015; Usova and Velkin, 2018). Apart from price, it is seen that many socioeconomic and psychological variables are effective in consumers'adoption of green energy (Herbes and Ramme, 2014; Xiong, Li, Wang, and Wang, 2020). Among them, there are many elements such as household income, household size, age, attitude, green norms, ecological conservation behavior, and knowledge of renewable energies. Thus, adetailed study is required in order to understand consumers in depth and act in this direction, and raise the awareness of consumers about green energy. Therefore, the aim of this book chapter is to reveal the variables that lead to and prevent consumers from using green energy.

Effect of different carbon sources on exopolysaccharide production of Lactiplantibacillus pentosus KS27 and optimization of production conditions using Box-Behnken designing

    Bekar, Fevzi; Kamiloglu, Aybike

This study aimed to determine the exopolysaccharide (EPS) production of Lactiplantibacillus pentosus KS27 depending on temperature, incubation time, and medium composition and to determine the optimum conditions. Characterization was carried out for the exopolysaccharide produced under optimum conditions. In the study, three different conditions (25 °C, 35 °C, 45 °C) were used for temperature, glycerol, and sucrose as media, and three different periods (24 h, 36 h, and 48 h) were used. It was determined that the solubility of EPS produced under optimal conditions had the highest water content (98 ± 0.01%), while the water binding capacity was also found to be as high as 1970 ± 0.01% and complied with common EPS characteristics. Differential scanning calorimeter analysis showed a gradual deterioration up to 191.88 °C and a slow decline up to 400 °C. FTIR analysis deciphered peak values between 3289 and 517 cm−1, and functional groups were detected. When the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrum was examined, a heterogeneous structure appropriate to the structure of EPS was found by defining the peak entities in three separate regions.

Effect of oxidation on radiation shielding capacity of ZrNbTaMoW Refractory High Entropy Alloys (RHEA) for nuclear reactor applications: Experimental and theoretical assessment

    Sakar, E.; Guler, O.; Alim, B.; Guler, S.H.; Dikici, B.; Lampke, T.

This study presents the production and comprehensive assessment of a Refractory High Entropy Alloy (RHEA) with a ZrNbTaMoW composition for possible usage nuclear reactor applications. The alloy was synthesized using the mechanical alloying (MA) method, and its radiation properties were examined. Elemental powders of Zr, Nb, Ta, Mo, and W were utilized in equimolar quantities during the 120-hour MA process, conducted under a high-purity Ar atmosphere to prevent oxidation. The obtained HEA was then subjected to a mechano-thermal process to transform it into Refractory High-Entropy Oxide (RHEO) for comparing their radiation-shielding performance under oxide conditions. The characterization of the produced alloys through X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and electron dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The photon shielding parameters of the alloys were experimentally obtained for various energies emitted from a 133Ba radioactive source, employing a Canberra UltraLEGe semiconductor detector. Furthermore, theoretical calculations were performed to validate the experimental data and to evaluate the alloys' photon shielding capabilities comprehensively. For this purpose, Phy-X/PSD software was employed to determine mass attenuation coefficients, half-value layer, effective atomic number, and effective electron density. Fast neutron absorption capabilities were determined through the calculation of average absorption cross-sections in the 2–12 MeV energy range. The results showed that the oxidation process significantly diminished the photon absorption capacity of RHEA.
