- MakaleAçık Erişim2024Scopus SJRQ1AC transport loss analysis of HTS stack busbars for all-electric aircraft with harmonics and DC offset considerations
Abdioglu, Murat; Gautam, Gaurav; Zhang, Min; Yuan, Weijia
This paper presents a study of the current carrying capacity and AC loss of high-temperature superconducting (HTS) stacks to be used in busbar applications for all-electric aircraft. A 2D model was developed using COMSOL Multiphysics with a T-A formulation for detailed analysis. The study began by applying a stable 20 kA DC offset current to the HTS stacks to simulate practical operating conditions. Firstly, the behaviour of the critical current was studied under self-field conditions for stacks with different numbers of HTS tapes and spacing. Secondly, AC ripple currents were introduced with DC offsets, and the effects of 3rd and 5th harmonic distortions (HD) were studied. The results show that configurations with 40 tapes and gaps of more than 2 mm are considered suitable for safe current transport under DC conditions. On the other hand, increasing the tape spacing leads to an increase in the safe transport current ripple due to the reduced magnetic field interaction within the stack. In addition, the transport loss decreases as the air gap increases due to the reduction in the self-field, whereas it increases as the number of strips increases. The influence of the 3rd HD on the transport loss is minimal at a ripple current of 1% and slightly noticeable at 2%. However, it becomes more obvious as the ripple current approaches the critical value. Remarkably, even cases with equivalent total HD show significantly higher transport losses when characterised by higher 5th HD than their counterparts with 3rd HD. This comprehensive analysis provides valuable information on the performance characteristics of HTS stacks in all-electric aircraft busbar applications and offers important insights for the development and optimisation of these systems in practical aerospace applications.

- MakaleYalnız künye2024Scopus SJRQ2Analyzing of continuous and discontinuous contact problems of a functionally graded layer: theory of elasticity and finite element method
Yaylacı, Murat; Öner, Erdal; Adıyaman, Gökhan; Öztürk, Şevval; Uzun Yaylacı, Ecren; Birinci, Ahmet
Contact mechanics analysis is crucial because such problems often arise in engineering practice. When examining contact mechanics, the material property of the contacting components is a crucially significant aspect. It is more complex to solve the contact mechanics of systems that are composed of materials that do not have a homogenous structure compared to materials that have homogeneous qualities throughout. While many studies on contact problems with homogeneous materials exist, those involving non-homogeneous materials are scarce in the literature. As material technology improves fast, there will be a greater need to solve such problems. In this respect, analytical and finite element method (FEM) solutions of the continuous and discontinuous contact problems of a functionally graded (FG) layer are carried out in this article. The FG layer in the problem rests on a rigid foundation and is pressed with a rigid punch. From the solutions, the contact length, contact stress, initial separation distance, and beginning and ending points of separation were determined, and the results were compared. It has been concluded that the FEM findings are consistent with the analytical results to a satisfactory degree. This study analyzes contact problem using different approaches and accounts for the influence of body force in a contact geometry that has yet to be reported.

Yeti̇şensoy, Okan; Karaduman, Hıdır
The aim of this research is to investigate the educational potential of AI-powered chatbots in Social Studies learning-teaching processes. The study was conducted using embedded design, evaluated within the framework of mixed methods research. The study group consists of 78 6th-grade students studying in three different classes, along with one teacher who implemented the practices and guided the process. During the experimental phase of the study, lessons in the experimental group were taught by the practitioner teacher using an AI-powered chatbot named “SosyalciBot”. Meanwhile, lessons in two control groups were taught following the constructivist approach. At the end of the process, it was determined that the experimental group students’ post-test and permanency test scores were significantly higher than the control group students’ scores in both post-test and permanency test. In the semi-structured interviews, both students and the practitioner teacher provided positive evaluations of the pedagogical and design features of the chatbot, indicating that these features positively impacted the learning-teaching process. They also identified some shortcomings while offering suggestions for improvement. Based on the study findings, it is evident that chatbots have a high potential to contribute to Social Studies education. However, to fully harness this potential and achieve optimal effectiveness, further advancements and refinements in chatbot technology are required. At this point, it is recommended to conduct theoretical or applied studies focusing on developing chatbots with high communication capacity and explore innovative and constructive ideas regarding the integration of chatbots into educational environments.

Kurt, Mehmet Ali; Yalçın, Sezen; Güler, Cüneyt; Güven, Onur; Yıldırım, Ümit
Wetlands are transitional between terrestrial and aquatic environments and have essential ecological functions. Unfortunately, due to anthropogenic activities and climate change, the area covered by wetlands is gradually decreasing worldwide, causing deterioration and loss of their critical and vital ecological functions. One of these degraded wetlands is the Hürmetçi Sazlığı, a nationally important wetland located in the Kayseri Province of Turkey. This study aims to determine the spatial and vertical (depth profile) distribution and the sources of the potentially toxic elements (PTEs) As, Cd, Pb, and Zn in the soils around the Hürmetçi Sazlığı Wetland (HSW) and to evaluate environmental risk factors using various soil quality indicators. According to the results obtained, it was determined that some parts of the wetland soils were significantly polluted in terms of As, Cd, Pb, and Zn. The concentrations (in mg/kg) of these PTEs in the soil around the wetland ranged between 9.12 and 273.9 for As, 0.38 and 1119.46 for Cd, 3.59 and 1807.66 for Pb, and 41.68 and 77,287.5 for Zn. Several soil quality indicators, including the Enrichment Factor (EF), Contamination Factor (CF), Ecological Risk Index (ERI), and Potential Ecological Risk Index (RI), were calculated to determine the quality and pollution levels of the collected soil samples. According to the calculated RI values, 70 out of 77 sites sampled in the area around the HSW are in the “High Risk” class in terms of all studied PTEs. The soil profile samples indicated that the topsoil (0–50 cm) was heavily contaminated by all PTEs, particularly near a zinc processing plant established in 1976. In addition, parts of the wetland further away from the Zn processing plant were also affected by arsenic pollution from geogenic sources, which can be associated with Plio-Quaternary volcanic activity in the region.

- MakaleYalnız künye2024Scopus SJRQ1Dynamic Angular Velocity Load-Based Energy Harvesting Analysis for Different Blade Angles and Polarization Directions of Smart Blades
Uyar, M.
Energy consumption and control of electrical devices in flying electric vehicles with propellers such as drones are important for the continuity of the movement process. With this motivation, the piezoelectric energy harvesting performances of the smart drone propeller and smart wind blades are evaluated in order to obtain electrical energy from lead zirconate titanate (PZT) material placed on the propellers. Initially, the effect of smart wind blades with different blade angles on energy harvesting analysis is examined. The energy harvesting performances of the converse (z polarization) and shearing movements (y polarization) of the PZT material placed on the wind blades are compared under different angular rotational velocities. Then, the power outputs obtained depending on the sensor responses of the smart drone propeller with different resistance gains are evaluated according to the polarization directions. The maximum and minimum power output values obtained from the smart drone propeller at 12,000 rpm rotation velocity are measured as about 0.086 and 0.008 W, respectively. The results show that the energy harvesting performance of the z-polarized smart propeller is more effective than the y polarization, and the amount of energy obtained with the increase in the endpoint vibration amplitudes increases as the rotation speed increases.

- MakaleYalnız künye2024Scopus SJRQ2Effect of sesame protein/PVA nanofibers on oil separation and rheological properties in sesame paste
Yuzer, Mustafa Onur; Genccelep, Huseyin
This study aimed to prevent or minimize the oil phase separation that occurs during storage (0-90 days) of sesame paste at room temperature. In order to determine the changes during storage in the sesame paste samples, the zeta potential, rheological properties, and the separated oil ratio were determined. Significant (p < 0.01) effects of applied storage time and additives on the amount of oil separated in sesame pastes were determined. The oil separated in sesame paste samples varied between 3.83% and 16.29%. While the rate of separated oil increased three times in the control group over time, it showed an insignificant (p > 0.05) increase especially in the samples where 2% nanofiber was added. It was determined that the separation of the oil phase from the structure could be prevented up to 24.73% with the addition of SPI and up to 63.02% with addition of SPINL (nanofiber containing protein isolate) compared to the control. Practical applications: During storage, the particles in the sesame paste tend to precipitate, causing oil separation and residue cake, thus negatively affecting the acceptability of consumers. Additives were added in order to prevent or minimize oil phase separation, which occurs in sesame paste stored at room temperature and is not desired by consumers. As additives, nanofibers containing sesame proteins produced by the electrospinning method and sesame protein isolates (SPIs) were added. Added additives acted by preventing the separation of the oil phase from the structure. It has been determined that the addition of SPI to sesame pastes does not completely prevent the problem of oil separation in sesame paste, but is effective in delaying and reducing it. Since the oil decomposition can be reduced, the amount of oil separated and therefore the part that can sink to the bottom will decrease, so sesame paste will be consumed more appropriately and will contribute to the country's economy.

The study was carried out under salt-stress conditions, and three non-microbial commercial organic fertilizers purchased from Humintech GmbH (Grevenbroich, Germany) were applied to the soil for strawberry plants. The three promoters were Fulvagra®, based on fulvic acid, Liqhumus®, based on humic acid, and Microsense Root®, also based on humic acid. Treatment with Fulvagra® resulted in a remarkable 69.90% increase in average fruit weight and a 39.52% increase in yield in strawberry plants. These improvements remained significant when combined with plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR), resulting in a 61.81% increase in fruit weight and a 45.21% increase in yield. Liqhumus® treatment resulted in a significant 49.95% increase in fruit weight and a 39.30% increase in fruit yield. The introduction of PGPR further enhanced these effects by increasing fruit weight by 87.70% and yield by 63.84%. The Microsense Root® treatment showed 31.07 and 61.87% improvements for the respective parameters. In conjunction with this treatment, the use of PGPR produced the most significant results, with increases of 121.14 and 65.37% for respective parameters. These results indicate that the combined use of non-microbial commercial organic fertilizers with PGPR leads to higher efficiency and is promising for sustainable agricultural practices, particularly in improving the resistance of strawberry plants to salt-induced stress.

- MakaleYayıncıda açık erişim2024Scopus SJRQ1Enhanced thermal and angular velocity-induced hybrid piezoelectric energy harvesting of smart turbine blades
Uyar, Mehmet
In this study, an approach is proposed to examine hybrid piezoelectric energy harvesting performances from vibrations induced by thermal and angular velocity loads in order to generate energy from the smart turbine blade. In the proposed method, a smart turbine blade is formed by patching the piezoelectric material to the root surface of the turbine blade. A finite element (FE) model of the smart turbine blade is established and then it is validated with a smart blade model in a reference study to test the reliability and accuracy of the FE method. The defined loads are applied to the smart blade to obtain energy from mechanical vibrations induced by thermal and angular velocity loads. Temperature distribution, voltage, and vibration results obtained from energy harvesting analysis under different thermal and angular velocity loads are presented. In order to investigate the energy conversion efficiency of the energy obtained from the system, the energy harvesting circuit is tested in terms of battery discharge times and power output values. The results show that while the maximum energy conversion in the thermally induced smart turbine blade is 11.9 W, a power output of 12.3 W is obtained from the hybrid energy harvesting mechanism under angular velocity and heat flux loads.

Çelikel Taşci, S.; Bayraktar, B.; Bülbül, A.S.; Sait, A.; Korkmaz, S.
Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of STZ (Streptozotocin) and Rambutan peel extract (RPE) on serum visfatin and cardiac response in experimental Type 2 diabetic rats. Methods: In this study, 64 adult male Wistar albino rats, aged between 8-10 weeks, were used. 8 groups were randomly selected, each containing 8 rats as Control (C), R100 (RPE 100 mg/kg group given with oral gavage route of administration (OGRA), R200 (RPE 200 mg/kg group given with OGRA), R300 (RPE 300 mg/kg group given with OGRA); Diabetes Control (DC): STZ 50 mg/kg i.p administered group, DR100 (D+100 mg/kg JPE), DR200 (D+200 mg/kg JPE), DR300 (D+300 mg/kg JPE). The study lasted a total of 31 days, including adaptation (7 days), induction of diabetes (3 days) and trial period (21 days). Blood samples were taken from the tail vein (vena caudalis) of all subjects on days 0 and 21 of the study. Visfatin and cTnI levels in the serum samples were measured and evaluated by ELISA method. Result: While the increase in mean serum visfatin and cTnI levels in diabetic groups was seen mostly in DC groups, the most significant decrease in mean serum visfatin level due to the addition of RPE was determined in DR100 groups (p<0.01). As a result, it was concluded that the administration of 100 mg/kg RPE in rats had no adverse effects. It was concluded that RPE, which has a cardioprotective effect by regulating the visfatin response that plays a role in the development of diabetes, may be useful in supporting the impaired cardiovascular system function that occurs in diabetes.

Çelik, Saffet; Gerçek, Yusuf Can; Kutlu, Naciye; Bayram, Sinan; Kırkıncı, Seran; Ecem Bayram, Nesrin
In this study, different deep eutectic solvents (DESs) were used for vitamin extraction from bee pollen. The DES combination with the highest total amount of individual vitamins was choline chloride: ethylene glycol (molar ratio 1:2). The response surface method was then used to optimize the extraction conditions. The independent variables used for optimization were ultrasonic power, time, and temperature, while the dependent variables were the total individual amino acids, total individual phenolic compounds, and total individual vitamin contents. Spectrophotometric analyses and antimicrobial activity were also determined in the extracts. In addition, AGREEprep, ComplexGAPI and BAGI tools were used to evaluate the greenness of the method. The results obtained with DES were compared with water, ethanol, and methanol extracts, which were considered control groups. As a result of optimization, the optimum conditions were found to be 75 % for ultrasonic power, 71.5 min for sonication time, and 40 °C for ultrasonic bath temperature. The model's composite desirability value (d) was found to be 0.81. The predicted value and the experimental values were close to each other. Furthermore, the most dominant vitamin in DES extracts was ascorbic acid, the most dominant amino acid was proline, and the most dominant phenolic compound was myricetin. The amounts of these compounds were higher than those obtained from water, ethanol, and methanol extracts. The spectrophotometric analysis results obtained higher yields with DES compared to the control groups. Antimicrobial activity analysis showed that pollen extracts prepared using choline chloride: ethylene glycol had a weak inhibitory effect for Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria but not yeast-like fungal strains. In conclusion, DES has been successfully used to extract vitamins and other bioactive compounds from bee pollen. The results obtained showed that DESs can be an alternative to organic solvents for the extraction of vitamins, which are among the minor components of bee pollen. Besides, the potential of the application different DESs for more efficient extraction of vitamins and components with important pharmaceutical properties from bee pollen needs to be evaluated in detail.

Erdem, Özge
In this paper, the advantages and disadvantages of using B powder and C encapsulated B powder as a precursor during the production process of MgB2 with the addition of pyrene (C16H10) were investigated. Two MgB2 bulk samples with the addition of 10 wt % C16H10 of 1 g MgB2 were produced by the in-situ method using B powder and C encapsulated B powder. The C encapsulated B powder as a precursor was prepared by adding 10% C16H10 as a C source. From XRD and SEM analysis, a greater increase in MgO phase and a greater decrease in a-lattice parameter were observed for the sample produced with B, compared to the sample produced with C encapsulated B. The curves of critical current density (Jc) at 5 K showed a similar character for both samples. The Jc values at 5 K in self field were respectively obtained as 1.52 × 105 A/cm2 and 1.90 × 105 A/cm2 for the samples produced by B and C encapsulated B. The decrement ratio of in-field Jc at 20 K was less affected by increasing magnetic field for the sample produced using C encapsulated B due to the relatively higher increase in the irreversibility field (Hirr) and the upper critical magnetic field (Hc2) values. The Jc values at 20 K and 3 T were respectively determined as 1.49 × 104 A/cm2 and 1.93 × 104 A/cm2 for the samples produced with B and C encapsulated B.

Uçurum, Metin; Özdemir, Akın
The demand for ultra-fine mineral powders from various industries requires the applications of wet grinding and surface modification. In this study, wet mechanochemical surface modification of micronized calcite (d50 = 4.92 μm) with stearic acid [CH3(CH2)16COOH] was carried out in a planetary ball mill. The seven parameters were specified: ball filling ratio (%), ball size distribution ratio (10 and 15 mm, %), micronized calcite filling ratio (%), pulp solid ratio (wt%), mill speed (rpm), stearic acid dosage (% of micronized calcite) and modification time (min). Then, these parameters were optimized using a conventional experimental design when maximizing the active ratio (%) as a significant value for coated calcite. Besides, the analytical hierarchy process was applied to observe the importance of each parameter. Stearic acid dosage, mill speed, and micronized calcite filling ratio are the top three parameters affecting the active ratio. Next, size distribution, XRF, XRD, SEM, FTIR, TGA-DTA, contact angle, and whiteness measurements were performed on the micronized calcite (MC) and coated micronized calcite (CMC) samples. The final CMC product had a 99.90% active ratio, 2.49 μm mean (d50) particle size, and 101.66o contact angle. Finally, CMC obtained by the surface modification can be used as a filler mineral.

In the present study, the leaf and scape anatomical features of ten Androsace taxa distributed in Türkiye were defined to contribute to plant identification. Hand sections from both the scape and leaf examined 43 anatomical characters. Principal component analysis (PCA) and hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) were performed for the first time for Androsace. The results show that there are differences as well as similarities between Androsace species. It is noteworthy that Androsace artvinensis forms a separate main group with HCA. In addition, the fact that two of the five basic components are represented by a single variable according to the PCA results suggests that the anatomical characters examined are determinative for Androsace taxa.). In PCA, eigenvalues of PC1 (2.435), PC2 (1.749), PC3 (1.369), PC4 (1.223), and PC5 (1.006) were greater than 1.0. Cortex width, aerenchyma, arrangement of vascular bundles, and four-branched non-glandular hairs are among the important anatomical characteristics of the scape. Leaf cross-sectional shape, epidermis dimensions, glandular hair types, presence of five branched non-glandular hairs, stoma sizes, presence of crystals in the mesophyll, and types are among the qualitative and quantitative anatomical characteristics that attract attention in the leaf. This study examined almost all taxa of the genus Androsace distributed in Türkiye. The results will be important in finding new species among the examined taxa and revealing the anatomical features of the taxa for the first time. They will contribute to other studies on the genus.

Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that male gender, younger age, enhanced psychological well-being, and positive religious coping were identified as factors contributing to a reduction in postsurgical pain levels. Conclusion: The study's results indicate that surgical intervention serves as a significant variable influencing psychological well-being and religious coping among older adult patients.
