Satir, Selim; Kodan, Hulya
The aim of this study is to reveal the experiences of primary school administrators regarding the functioning of social, cultural, and sports activities in their relationships with out-of-school environmental stakeholders. The study is qualitative in nature and employs a phenomenological research design. The study group consists of school administrators working in primary schools affiliated with the ... District of ... Province during the 2023-2024 academic year. The data were collected using a semi-structured interview form prepared by the researcher. Content analysis was used to analyze the data. The findings indicate that parents contribute in areas such as the provision of tools and materials; however, negative situations were also observed, such as perceiving activities as unnecessary. While the moral support of senior administrators was emphasized, serious problems such as discrimination also came to the fore. The contributions of local governments, such as transportation support, were highlighted; however, issues such as geographical discrimination driven by politics were also noted. Although political parties were found to provide material support to schools, political interference in education was emphasized as a negative experience. In relations with labor unions, material support was highlighted, whereas educational support was emphasized in relations with non-governmental organizations. It was determined that social media contributes positively to the functioning of various activities by increasing visibility, but it also creates negative effects, such as pressure to engage in constant sharing. Various recommendations were presented, including encouraging parents' active participation in social activities and developing support policies to prevent geographical and political discrimination.

This study provides a comprehensive phytochemical, elemental, and spectroscopic characterization of 26 species belonging to the Asteraceae family, several of which are endemic to T & uuml;rkiye and traditionally used in folk medicine. Qualitative screening revealed the widespread presence of flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and carbohydrates, while alkaloids and anthracene heterosides were entirely absent in all taxa. Among the species analyzed, Cichorium intybus, Cyanus depressus, Achillea arabica, and Cirsium davisianum exhibited the richest phytochemical diversity, suggesting strong biological potential. Quantitative evaluation showed that Klasea serratuloides possessed the highest total phenolic content (99.49 mu g GAE/mg extract), followed by Artemisia scoparia and Inula sarana, indicating notable antioxidant potential. Elemental analysis by ICP-MS demonstrated significant interspecies variation, with Centaurea armena, Centaurea arvensis, and Cichorium intybus containing elevated levels of essential macro- and trace elements such as K, Mg, Ca, Zn, and Se, whereas Helichrysum plicatum and Scorzonera ulrichii showed high Co and Se contents. Conversely, trace levels of potentially toxic elements (e.g., Al, U) were detected in some taxa, emphasizing the need for careful evaluation of their pharmacological use. FTIR analysis confirmed the presence of functional groups characteristic of phenolics, flavonoids, tannins, coumarins, and cardioactive heterosides, as indicated by distinct O-H (3200-3600 cm-1), C-H (2850-2950 cm-1), and C=O (1700-1650 cm-1) stretching bands. The combined interpretation of phytochemical and FTIR data underscores the chemical diversity and functional group complexity of these plant extracts. Overall, the results highlight the nutritional and pharmacognostic significance of several Asteraceae species, supporting their potential application in antioxidant, nutraceutical, and therapeutic formulations.

Öztürk, Mesut; Sarikaya, İsmail; Albayrak, Mustafa
While research on metacognition in mathematics education has grown recently, it has primarily focused on problem- solving, with little attention given to problem-posing. However, problem-posing also involves complex metacognitive processes that warrant deeper investigation. This study addresses this gap by developing and validating a new instrument to assess metacognition in problem-posing among middle school students. The metacognition in problem-posing Scale is an eight-item measure encompassing three factors: planning, monitoring, and evaluation. The study was conducted using a scale-development design within a survey research framework, and data were collected through a two-stage simple random sampling. Psychometric analyses confirmed the scale’s reliability and its construct validity. The metacognition in problem-posing Scale offers a promising tool for exploring students’ metacognitive engagement in problem-posing tasks and has potential applications in both research and classroom settings.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Preschool Teachers' Awareness of Climate Change: Educational Considerations to Global Issues
Korkmaz, Halil İbrahim; Kahraman, Pinar Bagceli; Tutkun, Cansu; Bayraktar, Vedat; Altin Yontem, Gulden
Climate change is a significant global issue affecting many areas of life, and how this topic is addressed in early childhood is closely related to teachers' awareness and practices. This research is a qualitative study conducted to examine preschool teachers' awareness of climate change and how they reflect this awareness in their classroom practices. Twenty-one preschool teachers participated in the study, and data were collected through semi-structured interviews. The findings show that teachers mostly understand climate change in terms of global problems and observable environmental effects, while focusing on human-induced behaviors and industrialization in their explanations of the causes. Teachers' individual measures are mostly limited to daily practices such as recycling and energy conservation; participation in voluntary and collective environmental activities is low. The vast majority of teachers consider themselves partially adequate in raising children's awareness of climate change and express difficulties, particularly in concretizing abstract concepts, ensuring family participation, and instilling conscious consumption habits. Classroom activities are mostly limited to weather observations and recycling-based activities. These findings reveal significant limitations in the pedagogical deepening of preschool teachers' awareness of climate change; they indicate that teachers need to be empowered with field-specific, practice-based, and pedagogically focused professional support in order for climate change education to be effectively addressed at the early childhood level.

Kotaman, Hüseyin; Balcı, Aslı; Tutkun, Cansu; Bayram, Zeynep
This study aims to determine the effect of reading augmented reality (AR)-enriched stories related to sharing on children’s altruistic sharing behavior. In recent years, AR applications have been increasingly utilized in early childhood education to enhance engagement and motivation; however, there is limited knowledge about their impact on children’s social and moral development. Addressing this gap, the present study focuses on how interactive, immersive storytelling environments can foster prosocial behaviors, particularly altruistic sharing, in preschool children. A total of 300 children aged 4–6 from 21 kindergarten classrooms participated in the study. The classrooms were randomly assigned to one of three groups: a group that received an AR-enriched sharing storybook, a group that received a non-AR digital sharing storybook, and a group that received a digital storybook unrelated to sharing (control group). The sharing behavior of the participating children was measured before and after the story sessions using a standardized sticker-sharing protocol. Each child was read the story individually, according to their assigned group. The difference between children’s post-story and pre-story sharing behaviors was calculated, and the sharing differences among the three groups were compared using ANOVA. As a result, it was found that the children who listened to the AR-enriched story about sharing showed a significantly greater increase in sharing behavior compared to the other two groups. These findings highlight the potential of AR-supported storybooks as effective pedagogical tools for enhancing altruistic and prosocial behaviors in early childhood education.

Çakır, Özlem; Çınar Topçu, Kübra; Sefali, Abdurrahman; Bayyiğit, İshak; İlhan, Gülçe; Singh, Jyoti
This study compared the antioxidant capacity, total phenolic content (TPC), phenolic composition, lipid oxidation level, and mineral profiles of extracts obtained from four wild hawthorn species (Crataegus tanacetifolia, C. orientalis subsp. orientalis, C. orientalis subsp. szovitsii, and C. monogyna) collected from northeastern Türkiye. Significant interspecific variations were observed in DPPH, FRAP, and CUPRAC assays. While C. monogyna had the highest reducing capacity and TPC, C. orientalis subsp. szovitsii had the highest DPPH activity. Ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry analysis showed that catechin, epicatechin, chlorogenic acid, and quinic acid were the major phenolics, and were particularly abundant in C. monogyna. Despite having a high phenolic content, C. monogyna had the highest malondialdehyde level, indicating that phenolics alone were insufficient to fully inhibit lipid oxidation. Inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry mineral analysis detected high levels of K, Mg, and P in all species. Principal component analysis effectively distinguished the species based on their antioxidant, phenolic, and mineral profiles. Overall, hawthorn fruits were confirmed as valuable sources of natural antioxidants and essential minerals.

İncele - MakaleYalnız künye2026Scopus SJRQ1The Effect of Inquiry-based Science Learning Supported By Augmented Reality On Scientific Process Skills and Academic Achievement in Preschool
Arici, Faruk
Inquiry-based learning (IbL) is widely recognized as an effective pedagogical approach in early science education; however, young learners often struggle to engage with abstract concepts and sustain inquiry processes. Augmented reality (AR) has the potential to address these challenges by enhancing interaction, visualization, and engagement in learning environments. Although previous studies have demonstrated the positive effects of IbL and AR separately, empirical evidence examining the combined impact of AR-supported IbL on preschool students’ academic achievement and scientific process skills (SPS) remains limited, particularly in early childhood science education. This study aimed to investigate the effects of AR-supported IbL, IbL alone, and the current preschool science curriculum on children’s academic achievement and SPS. In addition, participants’ perspectives on learning experiences, skill development, and instructional activities were explored. A mixed-methods design was employed with three groups: AR-supported IbL, IbL-only, and a control group following the existing curriculum. Quantitative data were collected using achievement and SPS assessments, while qualitative data were collected through repeated teacher observations and in-depth interviews conducted throughout the intervention. Results indicated that AR-supported IbL led to significantly higher academic achievement and SPS than IbL alone or the current curriculum. While IbL was more effective than the curriculum-based approach, integrating AR further strengthened inquiry cycles and particularly enhanced measurement, communication, and prediction skills. Observational and interview data supported these findings by revealing increased curiosity, engagement, and active participation. The findings suggest that integrating AR within inquiry-based pedagogical frameworks can substantially improve the effectiveness of preschool science education. Implications are discussed for curriculum design, teacher professional development, and the development of developmentally appropriate AR-supported learning environments.

Kotaman, Hüseyin; Balci, Asli; Kilic, Zeynep Nur Aydin; Tutkun, Cansu
Starting school for the first time can be a challenging transition for young children and their families. This study combined quantitative and qualitative approaches to examine the impact of a virtual school tour on the school adjustment process of kindergarten students who are about to start school for the first time. The study included 18 kindergarten teachers and a total of 359 children, with 176 in the treatment group and 183 in the control group. Children in the treatment group viewed a 6–10 min interactive 360° virtual tour of their school before the school year began, while those in the control group did not receive any preparatory intervention. Children’s school adjustment was assessed three weeks after school entry using the School Adjustment Teacher Evaluation Scale, which measures school avoidance, school liking, cooperative participation, and self-directiveness. Quantitative data were analyzed using the Mann–Whitney U test, and qualitative data were analyzed using thematic analysis. Results showed that children in the treatment group demonstrated significantly lower school avoidance (U = 13266, p =.002, r =.164), higher school liking (U = 11221, p <.001, r =.284), and greater cooperative participation (U = 8541.5, p <.001, r =.860) than those in the control group, with no significant difference for self-directiveness. Qualitative findings supported these results, indicating that the virtual tour increased children’s familiarity with the school, reduced separation anxiety, and facilitated smoother communication between parents and teachers. Teachers reported that participating children entered school “as if it were already familiar,” adapted more quickly, and interacted more readily with peers and teachers. This study contributes to early childhood education by offering a scalable, low-cost, technology-based strategy for easing school transitions. Findings suggest that virtual school tours can be a practical tool for improving children’s early school experiences and enhancing family-school partnerships.

Öz, Mehmet; Fidan, Muhammed Said; Baltacı, Cemalettin; Akmeşe, Osman; Sefalı, Abdurrahman; Aygül, İmdat
Enzyme inhibition activities, phenolic compounds, antioxidant activities, bioactive compounds, antimicrobial activities, and chemical components of essential oil and methanol extracts obtained from the aerial parts of S. cretica subsp. anatolica were investigated. The main phenolic compounds of aerial parts were catechin, oleuropein, and epicatechin. The determined enzyme inhibitor activities highlight the potential of S. cretica subsp. anatolica as a source of bioactive compounds, particularly for carbonic anhydrase and cholinesterase inhibition. The essential oil and methanol extract exhibited remarkable activities against CA-II, AChE, and BChE, although they were less potent than standard inhibitors. The essential oils generally showed stronger antimicrobial activity compared to the 30% methanol extracts across most bacterial and fungal strains, as evidenced by minimum lethal concentration (MLC) and lower minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values and larger inhibition zones. Chloramphenicol used alone exhibited the highest antimicrobial efficacy, with the lowest MIC and MLC values and the largest inhibition zones. The essential oils of S. cretica subsp. anatolica were determined as esters, oxygenated sesquiterpenes, and aldehydes in aerial parts. The main components were found to be hexahydrofarnesyl acetone in the aerial parts.
