- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Seasonal and Meteorological Variability of Total Suspended Particulate Matter (TSP) in the Semi-Urban Atmosphere of Bayburt: An Integrated Assessment Based on OpenAir, PCA, and HYSPLIT
Paloluoglu, Cihan; Akmese Tarlan, Yasemin; Bayar, Serkan
In this study, atmospheric Total Suspended Particulate Matter (TSP) concentrations in a semi-urban area of Bayburt Province were evaluated in terms of seasonal variation, temporal behavior with meteorological factors, and air-mass transport characteristics. TSP sampling was conducted using the active sampling method over 118 days during the cold and warm-seasons sampling campaign of 2022. A high-volume air sampler (HVAS) and glass fiber filters (GFFs) were used, and TSP concentrations were determined gravimetrically. The mean TSP concentration was 29.13 +/- 29.39 & micro;g/m(3) in cold-season sampling campaign and 43.69 +/- 27.62 & micro;g/m(3) in warm-season sampling campaign. According to standard tests, the seasonal difference was nominally statistically significant (p < 0.05; Cohen's d approximate to 0.51; Cliff's delta approximate to 0.38). However, this significance did not persist after adjusting for serial autocorrelation in the AR(1) model (p = 0.151). However, this comparison should be interpreted not as validated seasonal climatological data, but as a comparison between intermittent sampling studies conducted within a single calendar year. This is because the transition period from spring to summer was not included in the sampling, and the studies were not repeated from year to year. OpenAir analyses showed that high TSP concentrations were particularly associated with easterly and southerly airflows. No clear weekday/weekend difference was observed, although episodic increases occurred on several days. The first two principal components explained 77.8% of the total variance, while the high TSP loading on PC3 indicated complementary variability. NOAA-HYSPLIT backward air-mass trajectory analyses indicated regional transport pathways in most high-TSP episodes, whereas local atmospheric stagnation was prominent in one episode. Overall, the findings show that TSP variability in semi-urban areas should be evaluated together with seasonal-meteorological variability, potential local emission effects, and regional air-mass transport.
- MakaleYalnız künye2021Factors influencing e-books' continuance intention in the mobile environment
Bölen, Mehmet Cem; Yildirim, Serkan; Yildirim, Gurkan
The identification of factors that affect people's continuous use of e-books on their mobile devices is critical for e-book publishers, e-reader manufacturers and academic researchers. This study proposes a research model that extends the expectation-confirmation model by incorporating perceived enjoyment and facilitating conditions to get a deeper understanding of continuance intention to use e-books in the mobile environment. The structural equation model (SEM) was used to analyse data which were collected from 1,663 e-book readers by an online survey. The results indicate that satisfaction, perceived enjoyment, perceived usefulness and facilitating conditions influence continuance intention significantly. Furthermore, users' confirmation of expectations has a positive effect on perceived usefulness, perceived enjoyment and satisfaction. Surprisingly, perceived usefulness does not have a significant effect on satisfaction. Based on these findings, the theoretical and practical implications, limitations, and recommendations for future research are also discussed.

- MakaleYalnız künye2011Scopus SJRQ4A systematic investigation on cryptognathid mites (Acari: Cryptognathidae) of Kelkit Valley (Turkey)
Dönel, Guldem; Dogan, Salih
In this study; cryptognathid mites collected from Kelkit Valley have been evaluated systematically. Three species belonging to the genus Cryptognathus Kramer, 1879 and six species belonging to the genus Favognathus Luxton, 1973 have been determined. Of these; Favognathus distortus (Kuznetsov, 1974) is new record for the Turkish fauna. In the introduction of the paper given on original description of this species, it has been mentioned that femur I has three setae as for all the species dealt with in the paper, but shown four setae on femur I in the figure. Khanjani & Ueckermann (2008) agreed to femur I with three setae in their identification key for all Favognathus. In Turkish specimens it has been determined that femur I bears four setae. One of the species determined from the research area, Favognathus kamili sp. nov., is new to science. The new species is similar to Favognathus dakotoensis (McDaniel & Bolen, 1979) and F. ochraceus (Summers & Chaudhri, 1965) in general appearance; however it can be distinguished from them by the anterior edge of hood smooth, dorsolateral punctations smaller size than centrals, coxa-sternal region without striae and reticulum, tc on tarsus II similar. Furthermore, it was decided that the Turkish specimens named as Favognathus orbiculatus (Livshitz) by Koc & Ayyildiz (1999), Dogan & Ayyildiz (2004), Akyol (2007) belonged to Favognathus kamili sp. nov. and these specimens subsequently were transferred to this new species. Additionally, the males of Favognathus bafranus Dogan, 2008 and the deutonymph females of Cryptognathus lagena Kramer, 1879 and Cryptognathus ozkani Dogan & Ayyildiz, 2001 have been found for the first time in this study.

Akin, Ozlem; Efeoglu, Hasan
In this study, a memristor structure known as a missing circuit element was produced. This study consists of a total of six samples in both thin film and device form with different arrays of BST film and CeO2 film on SiO2/Si substrate. The effects of different arrays and device forms of these two films on memristive behavior were investigated. It was observed that the structures exhibited memristive behavior due to the difference in ion mobility in films with different dielectric constants. It was also observed that the structures changed their memristive behavior in the annealing process performed at different temperatures. It was observed that the memristive behaviors examined imitated the connection strength of artificial synapses, and they are suitable for the production of multi-bit memristors or analog memristors suitable for the creation of artificial neuromorphic networks.

Yapici, Irem Senyer; Arslan, Rukiye Uzun; Engin, Mustafa Alptekin
The objective of this study is to enhance the accuracy of diabetes diagnosis through the utilisation of machine learning techniques and resampling methods. The imbalanced nature of diabetes datasets presents a significant challenge for traditional classification algorithms, which often struggle to accurately predict results. In order to enhance the efficacy of the model, a comparative analysis was conducted to assess the performance of a range of over-sampling and under-sampling techniques, including SMOTE, ADASYN, Borderline SMOTE, SVM SMOTE, Random Under Sampler, Near Miss, One Sided Selection, Neighbourhood Cleaning Rule, Edited Nearest Neighbours, Instance Hardness Threshold, AllKNN and Tomek Links. The aforementioned techniques were then applied to the Decision Tree, Random Forest, K-Nearest Neighbours, AdaBoost, Extra Tree Classifier, and machine learning classifiers, and their performance was evaluated using the accuracy, recall, precision, F-Score, and AUC-ROC performance metrics. The SVMSMOTE resampling technique was identified as the most successful method, achieving 99.06% accuracy when used in combination with the decision tree classifier. The findings demonstrate that the incorporation of resampling techniques markedly enhances diagnostic proficiency and yields more dependable forecasts. This research makes a significant contribution to the field of medical informatics, providing a robust framework for diabetes diagnosis and offering valuable insights into the application of machine learning healthcare.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2020Scopus SJRQ2Removal Kinetics of Olive-Mill Wastewater in a Batch-Operated Aerobic Bioreactor
Kul, Sinan; Nuhoglu, Alper
This study involves the removal of the olive-mill wastewater (OMW), which is a significant pollutant, in a batch reactor under aerobic conditions by mixed cultures. It also includes comparison of different substrate inhibition models, calculation of kinetic parameters, and testing the merit of the chosen mathematical model with respect to OMW concentration and changes with time. Average initial microorganism concentration (X0) in the batch reactor was 100 +/- 15 mg L-1. During the study the treatment of OMW with initial chemical oxygen demand (S0) concentration between 10 and 1,000 mg COD L-1 was investigated. Maximum specific growth rate (mu max) was reached with 130 mg COD L-1 initial concentration and 3 h experimental duration produced 57.17% chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal efficiency. Other experiments with increasing initial concentration increased COD removal duration, with 927 mg COD L-1 initial concentration regressing to 8.88% removal efficiency after 3 h. The biokinetic equations of Aiba, Haldane, Tseng, and Yano and Koga were chosen to relate S0 concentration to specific growth rate (mu) and the biokinetic parameters in these equations were calculated. The most appropriate biokinetic equation was the Haldane model in terms of R2 value and the Haldane equation parameters 0.43 h-1, 45.34 mg L-1, and 207.97 mg L-1 were calculated for mu max, half-saturation constant (Ks) and inhibition constant (Ki), respectively. Also, a mathematical biokinetic model including the Haldane equation was used to test the OMW removal performance and it was seen that the chosen model was well able to reflect system behavior. After the calibration of mu max, the most-sensitive parameter of the Haldane model, to 0.22 h-1, the model gave a better fit for all tested conditions.

- MakaleYalnız künye2025Scopus SJRQ3Beyond the Third Way- Reconstructing Class Consciousness through Marxist Educational Theory
Aksakalli, Ayhan
This article explores how Third Way policies have weakened class consciousness in education and how a Marxist model of education offers a powerful alternative to this weakening. By blending neoliberal approaches with social democracy, the Third Way promotes individualistic and market-oriented reforms in education, which have been found to deepen class inequalities and weaken class consciousness. These policies make the education system an instrument of capitalist ideology and hinder the achievement of social justice. The article argues that the Marxist model of education has the potential to reverse this weakening and rebuild class consciousness in education. This model is built on collective consciousness, the importance of critical pedagogy and the need for democratization in education. Education should be transformed from a system that prioritizes individual achievement into a tool for social justice. The research analyzes in detail the destructive effects of neoliberal education policies on class structures and demonstrates that Marxist education offers an effective solution to these inequalities. As a result, it is emphasized that the education system should be restructured as a tool to strengthen class consciousness and ensure social transformation.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2023How Does Cynicism Mediate Spiritual Leadership and Organizational Commitment? The Case of Turkish and Indonesian Universities
Battal, Fetullah; Ibrahim, Azharsyah
This study seeks to determine the role of cynicism in the relationship between the perceived spiritual leadership of university employees and their organizational commitment. Because of the international nature of the problem at hand-university staff in Turkey and Indonesia who are engaged in ongoing educational activities-a comparison strategy predicated on cultural differences was favored. The study utilized correlation analysis and normal distribution determination in SPSS, and structural equation modeling in AMOS to reveal regression relations. Findings suggest that academics in Turkey and Indonesia are more committed to their institutions when they have a positive perception of the organization's spiritual leadership. Likewise, when university employees perceive cynicism in the organization, their commitment to spiritual leadership and the organization reduces. In other words, cynicism appears to partially mediate the relationship between spiritual leadership perception and organizational commitment in both countries.

- MakaleYalnız künye2023Criticism of Wāhhabism in Jamil Sidqi al-Zahāwi's al-Fajr al-Sādiq
Inal, Ibrahim Hakki; Sever, Mehmet
Wahhabism, which emerged in the mid-18th century, is a movement that draws attention with its reactivity in Islamic thought. The views of its founder, Muhammad b. 'Abd al-Wahhab, were built to deny the centuries-old religious understanding of the Muslim community, based on a bida'-centered thought. In this direction, Wahhabism has transformed the elimination of institutions and structures that it regards as signs of disbelief into a structural character. This study examines the critical treatise on Wahhabism by the Iraqi poet Jamil Sidqi al-Zahawi (d. 1936), who was disturbed by its activities in Iraq. Zahawi wrote al-Fajr al-Sadiq to reveal the historical origins of Wahhabism and criticise its political and religious activities, and tried to explain the unknown aspects of this religious movement. The work, in terms of its content, has examined the issues that occupy the agenda of Muslim society such as shirk (polytheism), bida' (heretical innovation), tawassul (request), and takfir (excommunication). The work, which is a refutation, draws attention as an important source in scholarly studies on Wahha-bism in terms of its content. In this study, the theoretical and historical criticism put forward by Zahawi will be tried to be revealed by using the textual analysis method. According to Zahawi, Wahhabism is a movement instrumentalised for political rather than religious pur-poses. The sociological basis of this structure, which is based on Kharijite thought, is based on tribalism and contains reactionism against the other.
- MakaleYalnız künye2021MORPHOMETRIC ANALYSIS TO INFER HYDROLOGICAL BEHAVIOUR OF CORUH RIVER BASIN (NORTHERN TURKEY) USING GIS TECHNIQUE
Yildirim, Umit
Morphometric analysis is a very practical approach for evaluating hydrological processes for watersheds. The combination of morphometric, geological, and geomorphological characteristics of the river basin helps to gain further insights in forecasting hydrological phenomena (such as flooding, soil erosion, and groundwater potential). In this study, the morphometric analysis of the Coruh River Basin was conducted using GIS to establish effective water management. Firstly, the basic morphometric parameters (basin area, basin length, basin perimeter, stream order, stream number, and total stream length) were calculated for both CRB and its subbasins. Then, characteristic morphometric parameters (drainage density, drainage texture, form factor, length of the overland flow, topographic wetness index, and stream power index) were determined. Results showed that the infiltration capacity of the subsurface material was low, and the surface runoff was slow in the subbasins located close to the CRB's outlet. Therefore, these subbasins are more sensitive to flooding, erosion, and landslides compared to others. Soil erosion and thus sediment loss is higher in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th subbasins, and the groundwater potential is higher in headwater areas of the basin. This study revealed that the GIS-based morphometric analysis is beneficial to implement water management tool at the watershed scale.
