Drawing on self-determination theory, this study examines how EPOCH well-being and resilience mediate the relationship between dissatisfaction with psychological needs and problematic digital gaming. Data were collected via questionnaires from 647 adolescents aged 13-19 (M = 15.80, SD = 1.10), 55.8% of whom were girls, using a convenience sampling method. Structural equation modeling was employed to test the proposed hypotheses. Results indicate a significant positive association between dissatisfaction with psychological needs and problematic digital gaming. Moreover, both EPOCH well-being and resilience were found to mediate this relationship. By highlighting the role of psychological resources in adolescence, this study makes novel theoretical and practical contributions to understanding the associations between psychological need dissatisfaction and problematic digital gaming. This is a cross-sectional study, which limits the generalization of the research results. The participants are adolescents attending middle schools in some rural areas of T & uuml;rkiye, which limits the generalizability of the research results to adolescents in other parts of T & uuml;rkiye and the world. Additionally, research data were obtained through self-report scales. This may lead adolescents to respond in line with their developmental perceptions of social desirability.
- MakaleYalnız künye2023Scopus SJRQ1Extraction Method for Unique Determination of Complex Permittivity From Graphical Analysis of Natural Frequencies
Hasar, Ugur C.; Ozturk, Gokhan; Kaya, Yunus; Alfaqawi, Mona S. S.; Barroso, Joaquim Jose; Ertugrul, Mehmet; Ramahi, Omar M.
A time-domain free-space extraction procedure is proposed to uniquely determine the relative complex permittivity epsilon(r)(omega) based on two sets of natural frequencies of the metal- and air-backed dielectric samples. A graphical analysis is applied for evaluating whether unique epsilon(r)(omega) can be extracted using such natural frequencies. The method is numerically validated using two dielectric samples with different epsilon(omega) for the ideal case (no noise) and under the influence of noise with different signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs).

Hasar, Ugur Cem; Ozturk, Gokhan; Kaya, Yunus; Bute, Musa; Karaaslan, Muharrem; Barroso, Joaquim J.; Ramahi, Omar M.; Ertugrul, Mehmet
An extraction technique is proposed for electromagnetic characterization of metal-backed multilayer metamaterial (MM) structures demonstrating reflection-asymmetric property. It uses recursive scattering parameters for direct and reversed configurations of a multilayer structure. The algorithm was validated by comparing the extracted electromagnetic properties of multilayer structures composed of different MM unit cells with those determined by one-layer-only S-parameter methods. Two-layer and three-layer multilayer structures composed of MM slabs with C-shaped and Omega-shaped rings and an FR4 material were fabricated and measured for experimental validation. A sensitivity analysis was also conducted to quantitatively evaluate the performance of our method against a small air gap between the multilayer structures and the short-circuit termination and between adjacent MM slabs within these structures. Strong agreement was observed between the resulted obtained using our method and measurements.

Field studies using conventional univariate methods fail to detect physiological rhythms (melatonin, cortisol, sleep architecture) that are consistently documented under laboratory-controlled conditions, suggesting that temporal factors operate on systemic organization rather than isolated metrics. Network analysis quantifies conditional dependencies among variables simultaneously, enabling the detection of organizational changes independent of mean-level shifts. As an exploratory proof-of-concept, this study examines whether network comparison methods detect temporal reorganization of psychophysiological integration invisible to conventional repeated-measures analysis in elite athletes; no confirmatory causal inference is drawn. Twelve elite male athletes completed psychophysiological assessments (mood states, subjective well-being, neurocognitive performance, postural control, intermittent endurance) at three lunar phases (New Moon, First Quarter, Full Moon) in a counterbalanced design. Conventional repeated-measures ANOVA detected no temporal effects on isolated variables (all F < 2.87, p > 0.05, eta(2)p < 0.21). Network comparison revealed marked organizational differences: New Moon versus Full Moon networks exhibited distinct architecture (M = 0.31, padj = 0.008) and connectivity (S = 8.42, padj = 0.029). Centrality systematically redistributed from capacity and well-being constructs (New Moon: vigour z = 1.82) to recovery markers (Full Moon: stress z = 2.13). Twelve connections differed significantly, including enhanced stress-confusion coupling (Delta r = +0.39, p = 0.003). This proof-of-concept demonstrates that temporal measurements can exhibit systemic reorganization despite stable component means, resolving apparent contradictions between laboratory-detected physiological rhythms and field-based null findings. Temporal control measurements and multi-cycle replication are required to definitively attribute observed reorganization to lunar periodicity rather than generic temporal variation.

Background: The aim of this study was to determine hormonal responses to acute and chronic exposure to static and dynamic strength training programs using resistance bands in boxers. Material and methods: 19 male national boxers participated in the study. Boxers were instructed to perform strength exercises with resistance bands for 3 days a week for 8 weeks involving either dynamic (n=10) or static (n=9) resistance exercises. Blood samples were taken before exercise, immediately after the initial exercise session, and 8 weeks later following the last exercise session. Cortisol, growth hormone, adrenocorticotropic hormone adrenaline and noradrenaline levels were measured. Statistical analyses involved non-parametric analysis with an alpha level of .05. Results: Dynamic strength exercises were effective stimuli to growth hormone, adrenaline and noradrenaline, while static strength exercises provoked cortisol, growth hormone, adrenaline and noradrenaline responses both initially after exercise and after 8 weeks of chronic training. Neither dynamic nor static strength exercises were effective in prompting adrenocorticotropic changes after an exercise session or after 8 weeks of training. Conclusions: We showed that dynamic and static strength exercise protocols using resistance bands both could provoke acute and chronic hormonal responses in boxers similar to more traditional modes of such exercise.

- Derleme MakaleYalnız künye2023Scopus SJRQ1Nanomaterial and fiber-reinforced sustainable geopolymers: A systematic critical review
Ünal, M. T.; Gökçe, H. S.; Ayough, P.; Alnahhal, A. M.; Simsek, O.; Nehdi, M. L.
Global cement production is associated with a colossal environmental footprint due to its considerable carbon emissions, energy consumption, depletion of natural resources, and waste accumulation. Geopolymer based concretes (GCs) have emerged as revolutionary alternatives to ordinary Portland cement concrete with enormous potential ecological benefits. However, they suffer from deficiencies, such as their brittle behavior under flexural and tensile loads. Using different types of fiber reinforcement and nanomaterial additions in geopolymer composites (GCs) has recently gained considerable attention to enhance various engineering properties, improve crack resistance, toughness, and ductility of the geopolymer matrices. This systematic and critical review analyses the effects of different reinforcing fibers and nanomaterials on the compressive and tensile strengths, modulus of elasticity, and impact resistance of GCs, and highlights the associated microstructural features. It is shown that carbon, basalt, and steel fibers can impart considerable improvement in mechanical strength, modulus of elasticity, and impact resistance of GCs. Furthermore, the introduction of polyethylene fibers has been shown to induce complex cracking behaviors, thereby contributing to the strain-hardening capability of geopolymer matrices. The integration of nanomaterials into GCs has emerged as a powerful strategy for achieving substantial enhancements in mechanical performance. Optimal nanomaterial dosages, typically around 2%, have been identified, with the specific surface area of nanoparticles proving to be a crucial determinant of the resulting mechanical properties. Notably, nano-silica has exhibited pronounced macro-scale reinforcement effects, whereas nano-titanium has displayed the potential to significantly enhance gel micromechanical characteristics. Additionally, synergistic combinations of nanomaterials and fiber reinforcements have led to the development of novel and distinctive mechanical properties within GCs. The synthesis of these findings underscores current best practices, highlights areas requiring further investigation, and emphasizes the need for concerted research efforts to advance the knowledge and implementation of sustainable geopolymers. This review offers a comprehensive analysis of the effects of fiber reinforcements and nanomaterials on geopolymer composites, providing valuable insights for researchers and practitioners.

The aim of this study was to examine the effects of high-intensity plyometric training (HIPT) on some parameters in elite soccer players in the U17. Volunteer soccer players were randomly divided into two groups according to their positions: the regular training (RT) group (age: 16.71 +/- 0.47 years; stature: 163.46 +/- 3.31 cm; body weight: 61.04 +/- 1.59 kg) and the HIPT group (age: 16.64 +/- 0.50 years; stature: 165.60 +/- 3.03 cm; body weight: 59.76 +/- 1.92 kg), and each group included five defenders, five midfielders, and four attackers. While the RT group did only routine soccer training, the HIPT group performed high-intensity plyometric training three days a week in addition to routine soccer training. In the study, body weight, stature, sprint (10 m, 30 m, and 40 m), jump (standing long jump, right and left-limb triple hop) and 5-0-5 change of direction speed test measurements of the soccer players were taken. Skewness and Kurtosis values obtained from the pre-test and post-test measurements were calculated to test whether the normality assumption of the study was met. A mixed measure two-way ANOVA test was used to determine the difference between the pre-test and post-test. The significance was set asp < 0.05. The results indicated that 8-week high-intensity plyometric training provided more improvement in measured performance parameters than routine soccer training. As a result, when the data obtained is examined, it can be said that HIPT had better values in sprint, jump, and change of direction parameters, so plyometric training was more beneficial for anaerobic parameters than routine soccer training in children. It is recommended that the trainers make their plans considering these results.

Fiebor, Alphonse; Cinar, Mehmet; Amsalem, Patrick; Achazi, Andreas J.; Gordeev, Georgy; Bartonitz, Florian; Xin, Fan; Koch, Norbert; Adeli, Mohsen; Paulus, Beate
Controlling the position of the Fermi level at the single-particle level in bulk amount of carbon nanotubes is a key technological bottleneck against their use in building nanodevices for electronics, optics, sensing, bioimaging, and beyond. Here are deployed a novel set of molecules built up from the same building blocks (aniline and methoxy groups attached on a triazine anchor) that efficiently p- and n-dope the nanotubes, depending upon the way they are assembled. Independent computational and experimental investigations consistently confirm the tunability-by-assembly concept of the charge transfer agents. The changes of the electronic density localized on the anchor groups and, upon attachment, the consistent variation of the position of the Fermi level in single-walled carbon nanotubes are monitored. The induced shifts reach several hundreds of meV, ranging from p-doping up to n-doping. This is evidenced by changes in the electronic and vibrational behavior of the nanotubes, as observed by Raman, photoelectron, and photoluminescence spectroscopies.

Hasar, Ugur Cem; Kaya, Yunus; Izginli, Mucahit; Ozturk, Hamdullah; Ertugrul, Mehmet; Ramahi, Omar M.
Metamaterial (MM) slabs in close proximity can couple with one another. This coupling can modify the electromagnetic response of the overall MM structure involving individual MM resonators. The signal flow graph technique along with the ABCD parameters are applied to quantitatively and qualitatively examine this coupling from simulated/measured scattering parameters of cascade connection of closely or largely separated MM slabs. S-parameter measurements of a MM slab constructed by split-ring-resonators were carried out at X-band (8.2-12.4 GHz) to validate our theoretical analysis.

Yang, Huaguang; Yilmaz, Galip; Jiang, Jing; Xie, Jun; Langstraat, Thomas; Chu, Raymond; van Es, Martin; Garg, Priya; Turng, Lih-Sheng
The extremely high molecular weight and molecular entanglement have rendered ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) superior properties. However, poor inter-particle diffusion makes it difficult to pelletize UHMWPE powders for easy processing/handling. A novel tapered die with air cooling was proposed to pelletize UHMWPE and a UHMWPE blend with 5 wt% high-density polyethylene (HDPE) for compression molding and material characterization. The tensile strength of samples prepared with the tapered die outperformed those by the regular die or from virgin powders. The addition of HDPE further improved the tensile strength. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) revealed little chain scission and the lowest amount of oxidation from the tapered die. Intrinsic viscosity (IV) measurements confirmed the negligible chain scission and showed an increment in IV for the UHMWPE/HDPE blend. Multi-angle light scattering with size-exclusion chromatography (SEC-MALS) indicated no change in the UHMWPE molecular weight distribution, but some crosslinking in the blend. Polarized optical microscopy (POM) showed that the HDPE and extrusion led to a finer UHMWPE domain size and better fusion between UHMWPE and HDPE. The combined effect of enhanced molecular chain diffusion, improved consolidation, and lower oxidation using the tapered die led to 40% improvement of tensile strength for the UHMWPE/HDPE blend.

Novel heteroaromatic compounds (Hc1, Hc2, Hc3, Hc4) were obtained, and their structure were confirmed using various spectroscopic methods, including elemental analysis, fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, proton and carbon nuclear magnetic resonance (1H/13C-NMR) spectroscopy, and molar conductance measurement. The biological activities of the heteroaromatic compounds against several Gram-positive (Micrococcus luteus ATCC9341, Staphylococcus epidermidis ATCC12228, Bacillus cereus RSKK863, Listeria monocytogenes ATCC 19111), and Gram-negative bacterial strains (Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC27853, Klebsiella pneumonia ATCC27853, Enterobacter aerogenes ATCC51342, Salmonella typhi H NCTC9018394, Shigella dysenteriae NCTC2966, Proteus vulgaris RSKK96026) were evaluated using the well-diffusion method. In general, the heteroaromatic compounds demonstrated a stronger inhibitory effect against Gram-positive bacteria. Hc1, Hc2 and Hc3 showed the highest inhibitory effect against B. cereus and L. monocytogenes. The compound (Hc4) showed the highest antibacterial activity and antifungal activity against Bacillus cereus and C. albicans, respectively. The cytotoxic activity of the heteroaromatic compounds was assessed against the non-small cell lung cancer cell line (NCI-H460) using the NutriCulture Cell Viability Detection Kit-8 (CVDK-8). Among the synthesized heteroaromatic compounds, Hc3 exhibited significant cytotoxic activity with an IC50 value of 141.3 & micro;g/mL, whereas compounds Hc1, Hc2, and Hc4 did not display significant toxicity at the tested concentrations. The molecular geometry of the heteroaromatic compound (Hc3) was optimized using Gaussian 09 W at the B3LYP/6-311++G (d,p) level of theory. Key structural parameters such as bond lengths, bond angles, and dihedral angles were determined through the same computational framework. Electronic features, including frontier molecular orbitals, global reactivity descriptors, and molecular electrostatic potential surfaces, were analyzed to explore intramolecular charge distribution and predict reactive sites. To evaluate the biological potential of the heteroaromatic compound (Hc3), molecular docking studies were performed. Additionally, drug-likeness assessment based on Lipinski's Rule of Five and ADME profiling revealed favorable pharmacokinetic characteristics. Molecular docking studies revealed that compound Hc3 showed a binding energy of -4.09 kcal/mol against the EGFR target (PDB ID: 1UWH), exhibiting key interactions such as hydrogen bonding and It-interactions with the active site residues. Based on all the results, it can be said that new heteroaromatic compounds have significant potential in the pharmaceutical field.

Bayram, Nesrin Ecem; Gercek, Yusuf Can; Çelik, Saffet; Mayda, Nazli; Kostic, Aleksandar Z.; Dramicanin, Aleksandra M.; Özkök, Asli
In this study, the chemical profile of bee pollen (BP) and bee bread (BB) samples collected from the same beehive were analyzed by LC-MS/MS (liquid chromatography technique coupled with tandem mass spectrometry), providing the identification of 23 phenolic compounds and 42 free amino acids (FAAs). Rutin was the phenolic compound with the highest rate of occurrence in both BP and BB samples. However, concentrations of protocatechuic acid, 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid and kaempferol compounds were significantly higher in BB samples than in BP samples from the same hive probably as result of microbial activity and glycosides degradation. The obtained data revealed that the phenolic profiles of the samples differ not only by the type of a product but also by region. Among FAAs proline was the predominant compound in all the analyzed BP and BB samples followed by L-asparagine (BP samples) and L-aspartic acid (BP and BB samples). A high content of proline can be used as a parameter of sample freshness. Also, Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Cluster analysis proved the possibility of using phlorizin as a chemotaxonomic marker for Rosaceae (Malus or Prunus genus) pollen presence in BP1 sample. In addition, amino acid profile had higher impact on BP and BB sample differentiation due to lower FAAs content in BB samples probably caused by microbial activity. To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first to compare the individual phenolic compounds and free amino acids of bee pollen and bee bread samples with the same botanical origin (predominantly originated from plants belonging to the following families: Asteraceae, Fabaceae, Plantaginaceae and Rosaceae). - MakaleYalnız künye2016Scopus SJRQ1Clarification of magnetic levitation force and stability property of multi-seeded YBCO in point of supercurrent coupling effect
Ozturk, K.; Kabaer, M.; Abdioglu, M.; Patel, A.; Cansiz, A.
In our study as different from the literature, which are mostly related to superconductor fabrication, application and optimization, especially physical origins of bulk supercurrent generation, magnetic levitation and stability properties of the multi-seeded YBCO superconductor are investigated in point of supercurrent coupling effect. Besides the experimental measurements, a simplified simulation of the supercurrent coupling in the multi-seeded bulk YBCO is carried out based on the experimental J(c)(B) data taken from literature and using the critical state method and H-formulation together in COMSOL Multiphysics package, to further elucidate the mechanism of supercurrent generation and guidance force. The bigger guidance force and lateral magnetic stiffness values of PMG-B arrangement with three B-z peaks than the other arrangements with one Bz peak in small cooling height of 5 mm are attributed to the more robust individual intragrain supercurrents, rather than intergrain supercurrent, due to the position coincidence in the z-direction between grains and permanent magnet poles. Additionally, it can be said that PMG-C arrangement with one Bz peak getting to the maximum guidance force value when the cooling height increase from 5 mm to 15 mm, points out for large cooling height the intergrain supercurrents dominate, whereas for the small cooling height the intragrain supercurrents have most effect on the guidance force. Also, performed the supercurrent simulations, using different current flow constraint ratio f (or supercurrent coupling parameter), clearly reproduced the qualitative change in the trapped field profile when the allowed intergrain current compared to no intergrain current (f = 0). It is thought that the presented results, related to the supercurrent generation, coupling mechanism and their effect on levitation and lateral force properties, have utilization potential for researches not only they study on new multiseed superconductor fabrication method, but also they study on superconductor applications. Background: Malnutrition and sarcopenia are highly prevalent in intensive care settings and are associated with adverse clinical outcomes. Aim: The study aimed to evaluate the association between nutritional care, nutritional status, and patient outcomes in intensive care units. Methods: This prospective observational study at a Tunisian tertiary hospital investigated nutritional status and management of 100 intensive care unit patients, each of whom was followed for seven days after ICU admission. Malnutrition Risk was assessed by NUTRIC and MNA scores. The severity of disease was assessed using the APACHE II and SOFA scores. Malnutrition was diagnosed using body mass index and weight loss. Sarcopenia was assessed through grip strength, calf circumference, and psoas muscle area. Nutritional management was evaluated using calculations of caloric and protein intake. Clinical outcomes included the need for intubation, difficulty with oxygen weaning, healthcare-associated infections, and the development of pressure ulcers. Results: The participants had a mean age of 54.85 +/- 17.25 years, with a slight male predominance (53 males, 47 females). Pre-existing metabolic conditions affected 80% of patients, including hypertension (40 patients), diabetes (36), and obesity (18). The primary reasons for admission were respiratory disorders (25%), infectious diseases (23%), and metabolic disorders (16%). The mean APACHE II score was 15.91 +/- 6.84, and the mean NUTRIC score was 3 +/- 1.66; 27% were classified as at high risk of malnutrition. The prevalence of malnutrition reached 50% (28% moderate, 22% severe). Only 31% received adequate caloric intake, while 84% had insufficient protein intake. Malnourished patients required intubation more frequently (50% versus 22.5%; p = 0.014), experienced greater difficulty with oxygen weaning (78.4% versus 48.6%; p = 0.008), and developed pressure ulcers more often (43.5% versus 6%; p < 0.001). Sarcopenic patients showed similar patterns for intubation (51.4% versus 18.9%, p = 0.003), oxygen weaning difficulty (77.5% versus 46.9%, p = 0.007), and pressure ulcers (39.2% versus 6.7%, p < 0.001). Conclusions: Malnutrition and sarcopenia are highly prevalent in intensive care patients and are associated with severe complications, including prolonged mechanical ventilation and pressure ulcer development. Inadequate nutritional support remains common despite known consequences. Early comprehensive nutritional assessment and appropriate management from admission are essential to improve outcomes in critically ill patients.

Royal jelly is one of the most remarkable commercial bee products used in cosmetics, medicine, and as a dietary supplement. This study aimed to determine some quality parameters (amino acid, multi-elemental, total phenolic-flavonoid, 10-HDA, sugar, and moisture content) as well as antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of different royal jelly samples (domestic and non-domestic samples). In this study, royal jelly samples exhibited high antioxidant and antimicrobial activity. 10-HDA values were found to be higher in domestic royal jelly samples (2.17-2.71%) compared to non-domestic samples (0.31-1.71%). Also, it was found that the acidity value varied between 2.57-3.37 mL 0.1 N NaOH/g and 3.87-4.97 mL 0.1 N NaOH/g in non-domestic and domestic royal jelly samples, respectively. L-Proline was the amino acid with the highest rate of occurrence in both domestic (21972.39-35053.00 nmol/g) and non-domestic (19688.31-21711.50 nmol/g) samples. It was determined that the new method developed for amino acid analysis has many advantages over other methods. Chemometrics of principal component analysis (PCA) showed that amino acid profile, elemental profile, and chemical parameters were capable of presenting characteristic and descriptive properties of royal jelly samples. In addition to these findings, Raman spectroscopy combined with chemometrics of hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) was successfully used to distinguish domestic and non-domestic royal jelly samples. The obtained results will provide an important basis for subsequent research on the evaluation of the amino acid content, physicochemical properties, phenolic content, and the antioxidant and elemental profile of royal jelly.
