- MakaleYalnız künye2026Scopus SJRQ2Leakage-safe benchmarking of conventional chemometric and deep learning models for food NIR spectroscopy regression
Akpolat, Hacer; Akpolat, Mehmet Zahid
Near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy is widely used in food systems for rapid, non-destructive estimation of compositional and quality attributes. Although machine-learning and deep-learning models are increasingly reported for spectral regression, practical model selection is often hindered by heterogeneous validation setups and the risk of information leakage during preprocessing and tuning. In this study, we provide a leakage-safe benchmark across nine food-related regression tasks spanning different sample sizes and spectral dimensionalities. Conventional chemometric and regression baselines (partial least squares regression, ridge regression, and support vector regression) are compared with lightweight deep-learning baselines (a shallow artificial neural network and a one-dimensional convolutional neural network) under a unified leakage-safe evaluation framework combining nested cross-validation with acomplementary fixed held-out test-set assessment, fold-wise preprocessing, and repeated training for stochastic models. Performance is summarized primarily using prediction error (RMSE in nested cross-validation and RMSEP on the held-out test set), while the coefficient of determination is retained as a secondary descriptive measure, complemented by cross-validation and fixed held-out-test learning-curve analyses together with model-complexity analysis. Across both validation analyses, ridge regression achieved the largest number of numerical task-level wins, while partial least squares regression and support vector regression remained competitive across multiple tasks. Paired randomization tests following van der Voet further showed that some small numerical differences between models were not statistically distinguishable. Artificial neural network and one-dimensional convolutional neural network baselines did not provide a reliable generalization advantage and showed greater variability in some data-limited settings. From a food-measurement perspective, these findings indicate that well-validated conventional models remain a strong default for routine NIR calibration workflows and non-destructive quality assessment. Deep learning appears most justified when calibration settings provide larger datasets, stronger experimental control, or spectroscopy-specific inductive bias that can translate added model complexity into practical measurement gains. Overall, this study serves as a controlled benchmark and reference for model selection under realistic food-spectroscopy data regimes.

Yayla, İbrahim Erdoğan; Dombak, Kübra; Diril, Sena; Düşünceli, Betül; Çelik, Eyüp; Yildirim, Murat
Background: Problematic digital gaming has emerged as a significant behavioral concern among adolescents, with potential implications for well-being. Understanding the mechanisms through which problematic digital gaming affects life satisfaction and how these mechanisms may differ by gender is important for targeted interventions. Aims: This study aimed to investigate the mediating role of difficulties in emotion regulation and the moderating role of gender in the relationship between problematic digital gaming and life satisfaction among adolescents. Method: The sample consisted of 458 Turkish adolescents (232 females, 50.7%) aged between 14 and 18 years (M = 16.27). Participants completed the Game Addiction Scale for Adolescents—Short Form, the Life Satisfaction Scale, and the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale—8. Results: Problematic digital gaming was found to have a significant negative association with life satisfaction. Difficulties in emotion regulation significantly mediated the relationship between problematic digital gaming and life satisfaction. Furthermore, gender moderated this mediation effect, with difficulties in emotion regulation being more pronounced among males than females. Conclusions: The findings highlight the importance of emotional regulation in understanding the negative impact of problematic digital gaming on adolescents’ life satisfaction, particularly among males. These results suggest the need for gender-sensitive approaches in interventions aimed at improving emotion regulation skills and reducing problematic gaming behavior.

Birinci, Ceren; Kara, Yakup; Gıdık, Betül; Kolaylı, Sevgi; Can, Zehra
To achieve a highly selective and sensitive analysis of phenolic compounds in bee products (honey, bee bread, and propolis), a simultaneous quantification of 25 phenolic compounds was performed using high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with a diode array detector. In the study, various solvents were utilized to enhance the phenolic profile of bee products, including pH 2 and 7 ultra-pure water, diethyl ether, and ethyl acetate. These included non-liquid–liquid extraction, pH 2 with 10 mL of pure water and 20 mL of diethyl ether; pH 2 with 10 mL of pure water and 20 mL of ethyl acetate; pH 2 with 10 mL of pure water, 10 mL of diethyl ether, and 10 mL of ethyl acetate; and pH 7 with 10 mL of pure water, 10 mL of diethyl ether, and 10 mL of ethyl acetate. Additionally, the integration of phenolic compounds identified through the enrichment method was pursued using principal component analysis (PCA). The extraction yields and recovery rates of phenolic compounds can be significantly improved by combining and integrating different extraction techniques. Our results demonstrated that using different solvent combinations significantly improved both the yield and diversity of phenolic compounds extracted from the complex matrices of bee products.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ4Examining the Relationship Between Boxers' Sports Achievement Goals and Sports Anxiety Levels
Akyuz, Hayri; Zeze, Bahar
Purpose. The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between boxers' goal of success in sports and their levels of sports anxiety and to determine whether their goal of success in sports and their levels of sports anxiety differ according to demographic variables. Material & Methods. The research was conducted within the framework of descriptive and relational screening model methods. The population of the research consists of boxers who participated in the Turkish Individual Boxing Championship held in Bayburt province between June 28, 2025 and July 6, 2025. The research sample consists of n: 370 people selected from this population using simple random sampling method. Data collection tools included the "Personal Information Form", the "Sports Achievement Goal Scale (SAGS)", and the "Sports Anxiety Scale-2 (SAS)." Data were analyzed using the SPSS 27.0 program. The normality of the data distribution was assessed using kurtosis and skewness tests, concluding that the data followed a normal distribution. Furthermore, reliability analysis of the scale sub-dimensions and total scores indicated that both were reliable. Descriptive statistics included frequency, mean, and standard deviation; t-tests and ANOVA were used to examine differences between variables; and Pearson Correlation Test was used to analyze relationships between variables. Tukey test was applied for multiple comparisons. Significance value (p<0.05) was considered in the data analysis. Results. According to the t-test results, significant differences were found between the boxers' gender variable and the SAGS total scores and sub-dimensions in favor of male boxers (p<0.05). However, no significant difference was found between the international degree status variable and the scale total scores and sub-dimensions (p>0.05). On the other hand, significant differences were found between the boxers' sport category variable and the SAGS total scores and sub-dimensions in the ANOVA test results (p<0.05). Furthermore, the correlation test results revealed no correlation between the participants' age and sport age variables and the scale sub-dimensions and total scores (p>0.05). In addition, a low-level, negative, and significant correlation was found between the weight class variable and the total scores and subdimensions of the SAGS (p<0.05). Moreover, a low-level, positive, and significant correlation was found between the participants' weekly sport activity duration variable and the "somatic" sub-dimension of the SAS (p<0.05). Conclusions. Finally, low, moderate, and high-level positive correlations were found between the scale sub-dimensions and total scores. In conclusion, it can be said that as boxers' sports anxiety levels increase, their achievement goals in sports also increase. The findings indicate that boxers’ achievement goal orientations are important psychological determinants of competitive anxiety levels. These results provide important practical implications for training planning, psychological support practices, and particularly for rehabilitation-oriented interventions aimed at anxiety regulation. Taking achievement goal orientations into account may contribute to reducing injury risk, supporting recovery processes, and promoting long-term athlete health.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ3Perceived social support and school engagement in sports science students: The moderated mediation of school alienation and social media addiction
Esentürk, Oğuz Kaan; Seçer, Emrah; Yarimkaya, Erkan; İlhan, Ekrem Levent
Introduction and Purpose: This study investigated how sports science university students perceive social support (PSS), its influence on their academic engagement, and the mechanisms that mediate this relationship. Methodology: A total of 466 students (316 males, 150 females) from the Faculty of Sports Sciences participated in the study, which used a relational screening model. Data were collected using the Multidimensional Perceived Social Support Scale, the University Students School Engagement Scale, the School Alienation Scale, and the Social Media Addiction Scale. The measurement model was validated through confirmatory factor analysis, followed by correlation testing and regression analysis using the Bootstrap method to evaluate the study's hypotheses. Results: The analysis identified a positive correlation between PSS and school engagement (SE) (r = 0.45, p < 0.001). In contrast, PSS showed negative correlations with both school alienation (SA) (r =-0.209, p < 0.01) and social media addiction (SMA) (r = −0.113, p < 0.01) (Hypothesis I). Regression analysis using the Bootstrap method revealed a significant indirect effect of PSS on SE via SA (Hypothesis II) [β = 0.181, p < 0.001, 95% Confıdence Interval (CI) = (0.003, 0.039)]. Additionally, SMA moderated the indirect effect of PSS on SE via SA (Hypothesis III) [Situational mediator index = −0.018, Boot SE = 0.001, Boot 95% CI = (−0.003, −0.0001)]. The indirect effect was stronger for individuals with low SMA [Indirect effect = 0.034, Boot SE = 0.182, Boot 95% CI = (0.007, 0.078)] compared to those with high SMA [Indirect effect = 0.018, Boot SE = 0.009, Boot 95% CI = (0.005, 0.0416)]. Conclusion: The findings support all three hypotheses in the study's theoretical framework, confirming the proposed relationships and underlying mechanisms.

AYGÜL, İmdat; AKMEŞE, Osman; SEFALI, Abdurrahman; BALTACI, Cemalettin; ÖZ, Mehmet; FIDAN, Muhammed Said
This study aimed to investigate, for the first time, the phytochemical composition, antioxidant, antimicrobial, and enzyme inhibitory properties of the methanolic extract of Gelasia sericea (Aucher ex DC.) Zaika, Sukhor. & N.Kilian. The extract demonstrated a moderate yield (6.55 g/100 g dry plant material) and was found to be rich in phenolic acids, particularly ferulic acid (17182.97 μg g-1), followed by caffeic acid, protocatechuic acid, and p-coumaric acid. Antioxidant analyses revealed high total phenolic (388.86 mg GA eq./100 g), total flavonoid (74.03 mg QE eq./100 g), and total antioxidant capacity (503.33 mg AA eq./100 g). The extract exhibited remarkable ABTS radical scavenging activity (95.99%, IC50 = 37.59 mg ml-1) and considerable ferric-ion reducing power (974.78 mg FeSO4 eq./100 g). Antimicrobial assays indicated moderate inhibitory effects, with stronger activity against Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis) and the yeast Candida albicans, whereas Gram-negative bacteria were less susceptible. The extract’s MIC values ranged between 0.20-3.25 mg ml-1, and MLC values between 0.41-6.50 mg ml-1, which were higher than those of standard antibiotics. Enzyme inhibition assays revealed moderate activity against carbonic anhydrase II (IC50 = 0.0136 µg ml-1) and weak inhibition of cholinesterases and α-glucosidase, while α-amylase inhibition was relatively more pronounced (IC50 = 13350.00 µg ml-1). Overall, these findings highlight G. sericea as a valuable natural source of phenolic acids and antioxidants, with promising potential for applications in functional foods, nutraceuticals, and phytopharmaceuticals. However, the relatively limited antimicrobial and enzyme inhibitory activities suggest the need for further studies on bioavailability, in vivo efficacy, and compound isolation to optimize its practical applications.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Effects of Moringa oleifera Oil on Adipokine Responses, Inflammation, Oxidative Stress, Bacterial Burden, and Early Survival in CLP-Induced Septic Rats
Ülker, Ufuk; Bayraktar, Bülent; Alr, Mehmet Eray; Kızıl, Sibel; Karan, Tünay; Kotan, Gökşad Cemil; Yeni, Mustafa
Moringa oleifera has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, but its effects in polymicrobial sepsis are incompletely defined. We evaluated M. oleifera oil (MOO) in female Wistar rats subjected to cecal ligation and puncture (CLP). Forty rats were randomized to Control, Sham, CLP, CLP + MOO 100 mg/kg, or CLP + MOO 200 mg/kg (n = 8/group). At 24 h, survival, clinical scores, serum apelin, omentin-1, interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), malondialdehyde (MDA), recoverable bacterial burden, and histopathology were assessed. CLP decreased omentin-1 and increased IL-6, TNF-α, MDA, recoverable Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, clinical severity, and multi-organ injury. At 200 mg/kg, apelin and omentin-1 were 1.15 ± 0.12 and 28.4 ± 3.1 ng/mL, while IL-6, TNF-α, and MDA decreased to 18.4 ± 1.8 pg/mL, 24.1 ± 2.8 pg/mL, and 2.5 ± 0.3 nmol/mL, respectively. Neither organism was recovered above the detection limit. Survival was 62.5% in CLP, 87.5% with 100 mg/kg, and 100% with 200 mg/kg MOO. Within this 24 h model, a single post-CLP oral dose of MOO was associated with lower inflammatory cytokine concentrations and MDA, reduced recoverable bacterial burden, improved clinical and histopathological findings, and higher descriptive survival. Because MDA was the sole oxidative endpoint and no non-septic MOO-only group or molecular redox assays were included, these findings support the attenuation of sepsis-associated lipid peroxidation but do not establish a direct antioxidant mechanism.

Eser, Mustafa; Yazıcı, Cevşen; Kandemir, Ümmühan; Üçel, Umut İrfan; Bozkurt, Mehmet Fatih; Demir Özkay, Ümide; Can, Özgür Devrim
Ivermectin (IVR) is a semi-synthetic macrocyclic lactone widely used against nematodes. Under physiological conditions, its central nervous system (CNS) penetration is limited by P-glycoprotein–mediated efflux at the blood–brain barrier (BBB). Nevertheless, supratherapeutic dosing, BBB-compromising pathologies, concomitant P-glycoprotein inhibitors, or MDR1 variants can enhance CNS entry and precipitate neurotoxicity. To evaluate behavioural and neuroinflammatory sequelae of subacute exposure, rats received IVR (1, 5, or 10 mg/kg; i.p.) once daily for 21 days. Animals were assessed for motor function (activity cage, Rota-rod), affective behaviour (elevated plus maze, modified forced swim test), and cognition (Morris water maze). Assay validation employed diazepam (1 and 3 mg/kg; i.p.), desipramine (30 mg/kg; i.p.), and piracetam (200 mg/kg; i.p.), administered according to their respective protocols. IVR did not alter motor performance or spatial learning and memory across doses. However, 5 and 10 mg/kg reduced the percentage of open-arm entries and increased immobility, consistent with anxiety- and depression-like phenotypes, respectively. At 10 mg/kg, hippocampal immunohistochemistry revealed increased Iba1 and GFAP immunoreactivity within CA1, indicating microglial and astrocytic activation. Quantitative counts demonstrated no significant change in CA1 neuronal number across treatment groups, implying that the observed glial activation occurred in the absence of detectable neuronal loss. Collectively, our data indicate that subacute, high-dose IVR provokes affective behavioural alterations coupled to hippocampal neuroinflammation, while sparing gross motor function and measurable cognitive performance under the present conditions. These findings underscore caution when administering IVR at elevated doses or in settings that compromise BBB integrity and warrant further mechanistic and time-resolved investigation.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ2Exploring the ımpact of metal doping and alternative electrodes on the performance of dye-sensitized solar cells
Calıskan, Berrak; Sayan, Enes; Igman, Erdal
This study explores the synthesis and characterization of metal-doped TiO2 thin films for applications in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Titanium dioxide (TiO2) films were doped with various metal ions such as Ag+, Zn2+, Fe3+, and Co2+, to enhance the photoelectrochemical properties of the photoanode. The films were characterized using various techniques, including X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), UV–Vis spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The doping process was found to influence the morphology, surface area, and optical properties of the TiO2 films, resulting in enhanced light absorption, particularly in the visible range. The effects of metal doping on the performance of the DSSCs were evaluated, showing that Co2+ and Ag+ doping resulted in improved efficiency compared to undoped TiO2, with the Co2+-doped TiO2 achieving the highest power conversion efficiency of 2.85%. Additionally, the incorporation of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) as a counter electrode demonstrated a significant enhancement in DSSC performance, even surpassing traditional platinum-based counter electrodes. The results suggest that metal doping and rGO incorporation offer promising strategies for improving DSSC efficiency. This study highlights the potential of metal-doped TiO2 photoanodes and rGO counter electrodes in advancing the development of cost-effective, high-performance DSSCs for sustainable solar energy applications.

Kaya, Yunus; Hasar, Ugur Cem; Ozturk, Hamdullah; Ozturk, Gokhan
This article presents a polarization converter (PC) that demonstrates linear polarization (LP) to LP (LP–LP), circular polarization (CP) to CP (CP–CP), and LP to CP (LP–CP) conversion performance in microwave C-band (4–8 GHz), X-band (8–12 GHz), Ku-band (12–18 GHz), and K-band (18–27 GHz). The designed converter performs LP–LP conversion in the frequency ranges of 6.414–6.771 GHz, 10.681–12.160 GHz, and 18.093–19.045 GHz, CP–CP conversion in the same frequency ranges (6.414–6.771 GHz, 10.681–12.160 GHz, and 18.093–19.045 GHz), and LP–CP conversion in the frequency ranges of 7.374–9.414 GHz and 13.792–16.777 GHz. It is single-layer, metasurface-based, reflection-type (because it consists of a metasurface-substrate-metal ground adaptation), multi-band (five bands), multi-functional (because it shows all three LP–LP, LP–CP, and CP–CP conversions), ultra-thin (with a substrate thickness of 1.6 mm (0.034λ)), low-profile, and cost-effective (since relatively cheaper and easily available FR4 dielectric material is used). Simulations for the designed PC have been carried out by the 3D full electromagnetic simulation program — the Computer Simulation Technology (CST) Studio Suite. The performance analysis of the designed converter was carried out according to the reflection coefficients in the frequency range of 4–21 GHz. It was fabricated using the traditional printed circuit board production method, and its performance was validated in microwave X-band by free-space microwave measurements. More information about the conversion mechanism of the converter was also provided by parametric study and surface current analysis. It is observed that the PC design, which has wide angular independence (50°), can be configured to be efficiently used in radar cross section (RCS) reduction and stealth applications.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ1The Effect of Self-Regulated Learning-Based Practices on Writing Anxiety: A Curriculum-Focused Mixed Study
Kaplan, Kadir; Akeren, İhsan; Gülden, Bahadır
Anxiety is part of daily life, and when it is not controlled, it negatively affects performance and success. One type of anxiety that students experience at school as a result of the pressures of educational life is writing anxiety. In the current study, the role of self-regulated learning skills in reducing writing anxiety was examined. The fifth-grade self-regulated writing program (S-rWP) was developed, tested, and revised to align with the text types specified in the native language (L1) course curriculum. A multi-stage random sampling method was used to determine the participants to whom the final program would be applied, and the mean pre-test writing anxiety scores of the two groups, an experimental group and a control group, were close to each other. An instructor trained in self-regulated learning strategies conducted the seven-session program to the experimental group for 6 weeks, while in the same period the same curriculum was conducted to the control group using the traditional teaching method, and finally post-test measurements were taken. Quantitative data from the mixed-method study showed that S-rWP was effective in reducing writing anxiety compared to the standard teaching method. Qualitative data were collected through semi-structured interviews with the participants, the L1 teacher and the instructor. The results show that S-rWP is effective in reducing writing anxiety, in line with the quantitative findings. The participants provided information to support the findings through their opinions, and the L1 teacher and instructor provided information to support the findings through their observations. The results appear to stem from the overlap between students’ writing planning, implementation, and evaluation processes and the three stages of self-regulated learning (forethought, performance, and self-reflection). However, despite these positive outcomes, several suggestions for future research are proposed, taking into account the study’s limitations. © The Author(s) 2025. - MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ3Molecular structure, spectral characteristics, and nonlinear optical properties of labetalol: an experimental and computational investigation
Çınar, Mehmet; Can, Sümeyra
Labetalol is an antihypertensive agent that possesses both α- and β-adrenergic blocking properties. This characteristic allows for its clinical use in both chronic hypertension and hypertensive emergencies. In this study, the FT-IR, FT-Raman, 1 H, 13 C, and DEPT-135 NMR spectra of labetalol hydrochloride (Labetalol HCl) were recorded and examined. Furthermore, the pharmacologically active (R, R) stereoisomer of labetalol was theoretically investigated using the B3LYP functional and the 6-311++G(d, p) basis set. The theoretically determined ground-state geometry of the molecule showed excellent agreement with experimental data reported in the literature. Using the obtained optimized structure, the vibrational spectra of the molecule were simulated, and the vibrational modes were assigned by evaluating them together with the experimental data. Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) analysis of the molecule was performed considering experimentally recorded values and calculations for gas phase, DMSO, and chloroform solvent environments, and the chemical shift values for each H and C atom were determined. Using Time-Dependent Density Functional Theory (TD-DFT) and Solvation Model based on Density (SMD) approaches, the UV-Vis spectra of the molecule were obtained in the gas phase and in four different solvent environments (ethanol, methanol, DMSO, and water). To better understand the electronic properties of the molecule, Frontier Molecular Orbitals (FMO), Molecular Electrostatic Potential Surface (MEPS), Hirshfeld surface analysis, Mulliken and Hirshfeld charge distributions, and Density States (DoS) analyses were performed. In addition, the non-linear optical (NLO) properties of the molecule were theoretically calculated, and the results showed that the molecule could be a promising NLO candidate.

Aldose reductase (ALR2), a key enzyme in the polyol pathway, plays a significant role in the onset and progression of diabetic complications, rendering it a critical pharmacological target. In this study, a novel series of twenty-four sulfonate ester-functionalized rhodanine derivatives (compounds 1–24) were rationally designed, synthesized via Knoevenagel condensation, and comprehensively evaluated for their inhibitory activity against ALR2. Spectroscopic and spectrometric methods confirmed the structural integrity of the synthesized compounds. In vitro enzyme inhibition assays revealed that all compounds acted as competitive inhibitors, with several analogues, particularly compounds 6 and 8, exhibiting stronger ALR2 inhibition (Ki = 0.43 µM and 0.48 µM, respectively) than the reference drug epalrestat (Ki = 0.98 µM). Structure–activity relationship (SAR) analysis highlighted the critical influence of para-substituted electron-donating (e.g., methyl) and electron-withdrawing (e.g., nitro, halogen) groups on binding potency. Molecular docking of the most potent inhibitor (compound 6) demonstrated a stable binding pose supported by key interactions, including hydrogen bonding with His110 and π–π stacking with Phe122. In silico ADME profiling confirmed favorable drug-likeness properties for all derivatives. Cytotoxicity studies on L929, A549, and RG-2 cell lines revealed that most compounds were less toxic than the reference drug at lower concentrations, with compound 8 showing a promising cytotoxic profile. These findings position rhodanine–sulfonate hybrids as promising scaffolds for the development of next-generation ALR2 inhibitors for the treatment of diabetic complications.

The Elzaki-Adomian decomposition method (EADM) is intended to serve as an efficient analytical method for the resolution of these original fractional-order Riccati differential equations. This can be accomplished permanently by incorporating the Adomian decomposition method with Elzaki. The local fractional derivative is implemented in this format. Particularly in the context of nonlinear differential equations (ODE), this approach is preferred over digital gaps. Additionally, the method’s convergence. Random individuals with uniform, beta, normal, and gamma distributions are used to select the initial conditions or coefficients of the equations. The variance, confidence interval, and expected value of the solutions that are obtained will be determined. This study investigates the synthesis, microstructural characteristics, magnetic properties, and electromagnetic wave absorption performance of nickel ferrite (NiFe2O4) composites reinforced with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) synthesized via the microwave-assisted combustion (MAC) method. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis confirmed the desired structure of NiFe2O4 and the successful integration of MWCNTs within the NiFe2O4 matrix. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) analysis revealed the entanglement of MWCNTs and their significant impact on hindering particle growth, resulting in a finer particle structure. The reduction in average particle size from 1.317 µm for pure NiFe2O4 to 0.436 µm for NiFe2O4 with 2wt% MWCNT, representing approximately a 66.89% reduction, significantly demonstrates the effectiveness of MWCNTs in limiting particle growth and promoting a more refined particle structure. Magnetic property analyses showed a nuanced interplay between MWCNT concentration and composite behaviour, with the saturation magnetization (Ms) exhibiting substantial enhancement in the NiFe2O4/2wt%MWCNT composite, indicative of effective alignment of magnetic moments. However, a subsequent decrease in Ms at higher MWCNT concentrations (4wt% and 6wt%) suggested potential dilution effects and disruptions in magnetic interactions within the composite. Electromagnetic wave absorption investigations revealed NiFe2O4/4wt%MWCNT as a highly efficient absorber in the Ku-band, with superior impedance matching and a high attenuation constant. The reflection loss (RL) reached a maximum of –17.58 dB at 12.78 GHz, signifying absorption of more than 99% of the incident EM wave in the microwave range. The favourable impedance matching and high attenuation constant contributed to the superior performance of NiFe2O4/4wt%MWCNT compared to pure NiFe2O4 and MWCNT. These findings suggest the potential of NiFe2O4/MWCNT composites for applications in telecommunications, aerospace, and electronics, with opportunities for further optimization and investigation into long-term stability and durability under varying environmental conditions.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Dietary chokeberry (Aronia melanocarpa) supplementation improves colony development, nutritional status, antioxidant defences, and honey production in honey bee colonies
Erdoğan, Yaşar; Erdoğan, Ümmügülsüm
This study evaluated the effects of chokeberry (Aronia melanocarpa) fruit powder as a functional dietary supplement for honey bee (Apis mellifera) colonies, focusing on colony development, antioxidant defences, nutritional status, behaviour, and honey yield under field conditions. A total of 48 colonies were randomly assigned to four feeding treatments (control, 2, 5, and 10 g L−1 chokeberry supplementation), with six colonies per treatment in each apiary (n = 6 per apiary; n = 12 per treatment). The experiment was conducted as a balanced field trial across two apiaries. Colonies were fed sucrose syrup supplemented with chokeberry powder for 21 days. Following the feeding period, colonies were transferred to two high-altitude summer apiaries where colony development, flight activity, defensive behaviour, antioxidant biomarkers, and end-of-season honey yield were evaluated. Results demonstrated that chokeberry supplementation significantly improved colony development, with significant dose effects on brood area and bee-covered frames (both p < 0.001). Flight activity also increased with supplementation dose (p < 0.001), whereas defensive behaviour was not affected. Total antioxidant capacity (TAC), superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) activity, and haemolymph total protein concentration all increased significantly with supplementation (all p < 0.001). End-of-season honey yield was significantly higher in supplemented colonies than in the control group (p < 0.001). Overall, these findings demonstrate that chokeberry fruit powder represents a promising functional dietary supplement capable of improving colony performance through the combined contribution of its nutritional composition and bioactive phytochemicals under practical field conditions.

Herein, novel heterocyclic thiosemicarbazone compounds (Hb1, Hb2, Hb3) containing pyrimidine, imidazole, pyridine, and phenyl rings were synthesized via the condensation method as potential therapeutic agents for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer. The structure of novel heterocyclic compounds was elucidated by using some spectroscopic techniques (organic elemental analysis, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, proton/carbon nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray image, and molar conductance measurement). The antiproliferative activity of novel heterocyclic thiosemicarbazone compounds using CVDK-8 cell viability assay. The viability assay was examined against A549 human non-small cell lung cancer cell line. All heterocyclic thiosemicarbazone compounds exhibited varying degrees of dose-dependent cytotoxic activity against A549 NSCLC cells. The results showed that the pyridine-based heterocyclic compound (Hb3) was the most potent antiproliferative agent, demonstrating a dose-dependent reduction in cell viability at concentrations of 50 µg/mL and higher.
