Analysis of the relationship between school leadership and collective teacher efficacy: a cultural comparison

    Kaya, Metin; Demir, Mustafa

This meta-analysis study aims to analyze the relationship between school leadership and collective teacher efficacy in a cultural context. The meta-analysis included a total of 47 studies in different cultures in different countries. The results of the analysis for all 47 studies involved suggested a medium-level relationship between school leadership and collective teacher efficacy. The combined effect size was calculated for all studies according to random effect models (ES =.48). And it is concluded that the power distance and long-term orientation of countries positively predict the relationship between school leadership and collective teacher efficacy. In addition, it is concluded that the individualism tendency of countries negatively predicts the relationship between school leadership and collective teacher efficacy. Moreover, it is determined that the uncertainty avoidance and masculinity tendencies of countries do not predict the relationship between school leadership and collective teacher efficacy. In line with these results, school managers working in countries that have high power distance, collectivity, long-term investment, and limitation tendency should benefit from these opportunities to carry out and complete the school mission. School managers in countries that have low power distance, collectivity, long-term investment, and limitation tendency should develop different strategies.

Turkish validation of the CompACT: assessing psychological flexibility among emergency aid and disaster management students

Çınar, Öznur; Oral, Vildan; Turan, Melikşah; Cengiz, Ekrem

Psychological flexibility is a central construct in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and an important protective factor for mental health, particularly among individuals expected to function effectively under high stress and uncertainty, such as those in emergency aid and disaster management. Despite its relevance for this population, no Turkish version of the Comprehensive Assessment of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Processes (CompACT) had been available. The present study aimed to perform a cross-cultural adaptation of the English version of CompACT into Turkish and to evaluate its psychometric properties in emergency aid and disaster management students. The study was conducted in two phases: translation and cross-cultural adaptation, followed by psychometric evaluation in a sample of 302 students. Data were analyzed using SPSS v.21 and AMOS v.22 through exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, reliability analyses, test-retest analysis, and correlational validity testing. The exploratory factor analysis (EFA) showed that the CompACT consisted of three factors (Openness to Experience, Behavioral Awareness, and Valued Action) explaining 75.848% of the total variance, comprising 20 items. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) showed that the three-factor model provided the best fit to the data (χ²/df = 2.590, CFI = 0.963, TLI = 0.956, RMSEA = 0.073). The scale demonstrated satisfactory internal consistency (overall alpha = 0.843) and temporal stability (test-retest r > 0.70 across all subscales), and its expected negative associations with the Acceptance and Action Questionnaire-II (r = −0.365) and the Depression Anxiety Stress Scales-21 (r = −0.403) supported its criterion-related validity.

Effective communication is essential for medical students in terms of patient interaction, teamwork and professional success. This study examines the effect of doing sports on the communication skills of medical students. Three hundred forty-five medical students participated in the study and their communication skills were assessed using the Effective Communication Skills Scale. The findings revealed a significant difference between Turkish and English students in terms of 'Using I Language' skills. In addition, when the students' beliefs about the physical, physiological and psychological benefits of sports were compared with the sub-dimensions of the scale, statistically significant differences were found in the sub-dimensions of "Ego Enhancing Language" (p = 0.011), "Empathy" (p = 0.047) and "Using I Language" (p = 0.005). When the relationship between the class levels of the students and the sub-dimensions of the scale was examined, significant differences were observed in the sub-dimensions of 'Ego Enhancing Language' (p = 0.001), 'Active Listening' (p = 0.011) and 'Using I Language' (p = 0.007). The findings show that doing sports is essential in improving medical students' communication skills and suggest that encouraging sports in the medical education process may be beneficial in enhancing communication competencies.

Advancing perovskite solar cells: Inorganic CCTS hole-transporting material for enhanced efficiency and stability

Sari, Fahriye; Ozel, Sultan Suleyman; Sarilmaz, Adem; Ozel, Faruk; Kus, Mahmut; Ersoz, Mustafa

One of the most effective methods for generating renewable energy is the efficient conversion of photons into electrical energy using environmentally sustainable materials. In recent years, the integration of chalcogenide materials, which exhibit graphene-like semiconducting properties and high charge carrier mobility, into perovskite solar cells (PSCs) has garnered significant attention for enhancing the performance, stability, and eco-friendly nature of these devices. In this study, Cu₂CoSnS₄ (CCTS) nanocrystals were synthesized and utilized as a fully inorganic hole transport layer (HTL) in inverted PSCs. Devices incorporating 6 vol% CCTS achieved a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 10.07 %, and retained 93 % of their initial efficiency after 720 h under inert storage conditions, without encapsulation. This demonstrates a notable improvement in stability compared to conventional PEDOT: PSS-based devices. The optimized CCTS HTL provided better energy level alignment, reduced moisture ingress, and enhanced charge transport. These findings indicate that CCTS is a promising inorganic HTL candidate for efficient and stable PSCs.

Death anxiety and death literacy among Turkish patients with chronic diseases: a cross-sectional study

Semerci Çakmak, Vahide; Seven, Ahmet; Sönmez Sari, Ebru

Background: Death anxiety is common in patients with chronic diseases. Death literacy is a novel theoretical framework that enables patients to discuss death, accept it as a natural aspect of life, and get a deeper comprehension of it. However, it is unclear whether there is a relationship between death literacy and death anxiety. Furthermore, death literacy has not been sufficiently researched in Turkish society. This study investigated the levels of death anxiety and death literacy among Turkish patients with chronic diseases and the factors affecting death anxiety. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study. The sample consisted of Turkish patients with chronic diseases (n = 225). The data were collected with the Turkish Death Anxiety Scale and the Death Literacy Index. Pearson correlation, independent samples t test, One-Way ANOVA, and multiple linear regression were employed to analyse the data. Results: There exists a negative moderate correlation between death anxiety and death literacy. It has been determined that the factors that most influence patients’ fear of death are their level of death literacy and gender. These factors explained 12.8% of the variance in death anxiety (R2 = 0.128, F = 3.153, p < 0.001). Conclusions: The results suggest that death literacy level and gender were found to be factors affecting death anxiety of patients. Women have higher death anxiety scores. While the level of death literacy of Turkish patients with chronic diseases increases, their death anxiety decreases. The findings of the study were believed to offer a comprehensive information for healthcare practitioners in the management of such patients.

The impact of ChatGPT-integrated reading activities on the reading attitudes and habits of middle school students

Kaplan, Kadir; Özen, Nesime Ertan; Özcan, Halil Ziya

This study examines the impact of the artificial intelligence tool ChatGPT on middle school students' attitudes and reading habits during a brief intervention. Twenty-six students from a middle school in Türkiye—13 in the experimental group and 13 in the control group—took part in an eight-session, four-week quasi-experimental study. Both quantitative and qualitative data were collected using a sequential explanatory mixed-methods approach. Data was gathered and analyzed using the Attitudes and Habits towards Reading Scale, the Digital Literacy Scale, and focus group interviews. Preliminary results indicate that students in the experimental group had better reading habits and attitudes than those in the control group. After the ChatGPT intervention was implemented, the experimental group's students showed a significant improvement in their positive attitudes toward reading. However, the experimental group also showed an unexpected increase in negative reading attitudes, warranting further investigation. Three primary themes, covering both the advantages and disadvantages of the application, were identified from the student interview data. These results highlight how artificial intelligence (AI) technologies present a potentially novel way to boost reading motivation in educational settings. However, to use these technologies effectively, educators and students must acquire more knowledge and skills. Longer-term studies with larger sample sizes are also required to validate these initial findings.

Stimulating Pro-Environmental Behavior Through Social Media Marketing in Environmental Organizations

    Bilgin, Yusuf; Çetinkaya, Ali

Environmental organizations have increasingly utilized social media platforms to highlight issues related to climate change and environmental challenges, raise public awareness, foster engagement on environmental matters, cultivate a positive corporate image, and promote environmentally sustainable consumption practices. However, there is a lack of empirical evidence regarding the influence of these organizations' social media marketing strategies on their followers. The study aims to investigate the effect of environmental organizations’ social media marketing activities on brand image, online word-of-mouth communications, and the pro-environmental behaviors of followers. A quantitative approach was used in the research, and data were gathered through online questionnaires from 529 users who actively follow ten well-known environmental organizations on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn in Türkiye. The theoretical model and hypotheses were tested with Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The social media marketing components of environmental organizations were defined as awareness, interaction, timeliness, customization, and advertising. As a result of the analysis, it was revealed that the social media marketing components of environmental organizations' awareness, timeliness, and interaction have a positive effect on the pro-environmental behaviors of the followers. At the same time, these components have a significant effect on brand image and online word-of-mouth in environmental organizations. In addition, it has been demonstrated that brand image and online word-of-mouth in environmental organizations significantly affect on the pro-environmental behaviors of the followers. The findings suggest that social media serves as an effective platform for environmental organizations to enhance their brand image and promote pro-environmental behavior. However, these organizations face challenges regarding the effectiveness of advertisements and the personalization of communication on these platforms.

A Meta-Analysis of Self-Management Strategies to Enhance Educators’ Teaching Performance

Aydin, Orhan; Ari-Arat, Ceren; Sulu, Mehmet D.

This meta-analysis examines the effectiveness of self-management strategies in enhancing the teaching performance of educators, with a focus on special education contexts. Thirty-six studies, including peer-reviewed articles and gray literature, were evaluated for methodological rigor using the What Works Clearinghouse (WWC) Design Standards. Of these, 26 studies meeting the standards with or without reservations were further analyzed using descriptive review, meta-analysis, and moderator analysis. Findings revealed self-monitoring is the most frequently used self-management strategy. Among the educators included in the studies, the majority were special education teachers. Effect sizes were calculated using Tau-U for all 26 studies, between-case standardized mean difference (BC-SMD) for 25 studies, and performance-criteria-based effect size (PCES) for 13 studies reporting a mastery criterion. The overall Tau-U indicated a very large effect size of 0.88 (CI95 = [0.74, 1]), and BC-SMD resulted in a large effect size of 0.87 (CI95 = [0.77, 0.98]). The PCES showed an overall effective effect size of 1.15 (CI95 = [1.07, 1.23]). Moderator analysis revealed behavior-specific praise, and fewer years of teaching experience were associated with higher teaching performance effect sizes compared to other relevant categories; however, years of teaching experience and higher teaching performance were positively associated when using BC-SMD calculations. Detailed findings along with corresponding recommendations are discussed. © Hammill Institute on Disabilities 2026. Optimization of Antioxidant Recovery from Deep Eutectic Solvent Phase via Back-Extraction Using Taguchi Method

Kamiloğlu, Aybike; Elbir Abca, Tuğba; Kutlu, Naciye

This study investigates the use of deep eutectic solvents (DESs) via ethyl acetate-mediated liquid–liquid extraction and the optimization of the process using the Taguchi method for the recovery of antioxidant compounds from tea industry waste. In the study, choline chloride was used as a hydrogen bond acceptor; lactic acid, glycerol, and ethanol were used as hydrogen bond donors; and different ratios of water (10–30%) were added to reduce the viscosity of the DESs. Ultrasound-assisted extraction results showed that lactic acid-based DESs provided the highest total phenolic content and antioxidant activity due to their ability to break down plant cell walls. However, in the recovery phase carried out with ethyl acetate, it was determined that ethanol-based DESs (ChCl:EtOH) were more effective in transferring antioxidants to the organic phase due to their looser molecular structure. Optimization using the Taguchi L9 orthogonal array revealed the following results: ChCl:EtOH solvent, 2:1 ethyl acetate/extract ratio, 20% water ratio, and 30-min shaking period were determined as the optimal conditions. Under these conditions, the model predicted a yield of 93.34%, and experimental validation revealed a recovery yield of 85.70 ± 1.13%. The results demonstrate that this developed green extraction method offers a sustainable alternative for converting tea waste into high value-added functional components.

Effect of Graviola Oil Extract on Anti-obesity Effect and Adipokine (Apelin and Adiponectin) Response in High Fat Diet-induced Obese Rats

    Erkılıç, T. Orkun; Bayraktar, B.

Background: This study aims to investigate the anti-obesity effect of GOE with adipokine (apelin and adiponectin) response at different doses (100 and 200 mg/kg) of GOE in normal healthy and obese rats with High-fat diet (HF). Methods: In this study, 36 adult male Wistar albino rats, aged between 8-10 weeks, were used. 6 groups were created, with 6 rats in each group: Control (C), Rat group without GOE and HF application, G100 (GOE 100 mg/kg group given with oral gavage route of administration (OGRA), G200 (GOE 200 mg/kg group given with OGRA), HFC (HF control group): no HF and no GOE group), HF100 (rats receiving HF were 100 mg/kg graviola oil extract added to their diet), HF200 (rats receiving HF were 200 mg/kg graviola oil extract added to their diet). Blood samples were taken from the tail vein (vena caudalis) of all on days 0 and 60 of the study. Apelin and adiponectin levels in the serum samples were measured by ELISA method. Result: In the present study, a significant increase (p<0.01) was observed in the mean serum apelin level in the HF groups at the end of the 60 day after HF induction, while a significant decrease (p<0.01) was also detected in the adiponectin level. On the other hand, when examined in terms of BW, the most significant decrease due to GOE addition in the HF groups, i.e. the anti-obesity effect, was determined in the HFG200 mg/kg group (p<0.01). As a result, it was concluded that GOE may be safe and beneficial when administered at a dose of 200 mg/kg in obesity-induced rats.

Analysis of Lightning-Induced Electromagnetic Pulses on High Voltage Transmission Lines

Cakil, Turan; Ozen, Sukru; Ates, Kayhan; Cakir, Mehmet

in this study investigates grounding enhancement techniques for power transmission lines, drawing an analogy with electromagnetic shielding methods. If we look at the basic analogy between electromagnetic shielding and grounding, the purpose of shielding is to prevent electromagnetic fields (both electrical and magnetic) from reaching an area or to reduce electromagnetic propagation. Grounding helps maintain signal quality, eliminate static buildup, and ensure the system meets EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) requirements by safely conducting the shield's parasitic potential to the ground. Examples of such structures include single-point grounding or two-point grounding and the use of mesh. The fundamental principle here is to reduce or prevent the interference of parasitic signals into the protected system. The objective is to improve the reliability and efficiency of transmission systems by optimizing grounding performance. Lightning and electromagnetic pulse (LEMP) intensity and current amplitude data obtained from the Turkish State Meteorological Service (TSMS) were used in the analysis. The electrical performance of the line and its resistance to LEMP-induced faults were evaluated through simulations using the Alternative Transients Program - Electromagnetic Transients Program (ATP-EMTP). The Seydişehir-Akseki-Varsak transmission line was selected as a case study. Results show that grounding improvements led to a significant reduction in the number of LEMP-related outages. Guy wires (GWs) enhanced the electromagnetic coupling between phase conductors and improved the dissipation of LEMP currents into the ground, thereby reducing the equivalent ground resistance. Due to the high cost of line surge arresters, the use of low-cost and easily deployable alternatives such as GWs is recommended. Further analysis on 400 kV transmission lines revealed that GW implementation reduced the flashover voltage at insulator terminals by up to 49%. These findings highlight the importance of cost-effective grounding methods in establishing reliable and sustainable power transmission infrastructure.

Investigation of life satisfaction and spiritual well-being of living liver donors in Turkey

Gunes, Hüseyin; Bulbuloglu, Semra; Saritas, Serdar

Spiritual well-being may be among the most common feelings felt by living liver donors. The feeling that pushes an individual to good behavior may be spiritual well-being, and the feeling that emerges as a result of achieving goodness may be life satisfaction. In our study, we aimed to analyze the spiritual well-being and life satisfaction of living liver donors and to examine the relationship, if any, between spiritual well-being and life satisfaction. Our descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted with 306 living liver donors (n = 306). In the data collection process, we used a personal information form, the Spiritual Well-Being Scale, and the Satisfaction with Life Scale. In data analysis, we utilized descriptive statistical methods, one-way analysis of variance. Of all living liver donors participating in this study, 37.3% were aged 41–50 years, 73.5% were female, and 53.9% donated their liver to their spouse or child. The predictor variable of spiritual well-being was found to account for approximately 29% of the total variance in the predicted variable of life satisfaction. There was a positive and strong correlation between spiritual well-being and life satisfaction of living liver donors (p < 0.05). Spiritual well-being and life satisfaction of living liver donors are positively affected by each other. In order to provide more psychosocial support to these heroes who disregard their own health and try to save others’ lives, it is best practice to support their spiritual well-being, increase their life satisfaction and develop awareness about these two values. A Single-Source Pilot Study of Machine Learning-Assisted Microwave S-Parameter Screening for Glucose Syrup and Water Adulteration in Grape Molasses

Engin, Mustafa Alptekin; Cakir, Mehmet; Cakil, Turan

Grape molasses, known as pekmez in Turkish, is a traditional concentrated fruit product that may be adulterated with cheaper sweeteners or water. This study evaluated broadband microwave S-parameter measurements as a rapid, non-destructive screening approach for detecting glucose syrup substitution and water dilution in grape molasses. Nine physical mixture groups were prepared, including pure grape molasses, glucose syrup–substituted mixtures at 5–30%, pure glucose syrup as an endpoint reference, and water-diluted mixtures at 10–30%. For each group, five consecutive technical measurements were recorded using a Libre vector network analyzer connected to a WR-229 waveguide-based two-port setup over 3.30–4.90 GHz. All mixtures were prepared from a single commercial grape molasses source and a single glucose syrup source; the results should therefore be interpreted as pilot-scale, single-source evidence rather than a generalizable screening method. Glucose syrup substitution produced a systematic upward shift in S11 resonance frequency. In the practical 0–30% range, S11 resonance frequency showed a strong linear relationship with glucose syrup content on the calibration data (R2 = 0.9955; inverse prediction error = 0.72 percentage points), though this reflects calibration fit rather than independently validated prediction accuracy. Water dilution produced stronger S21 attenuation. The detection principle is based on the complementary use of S11 resonance behavior for glucose syrup substitution and S21 transmission loss for water dilution. In group-blocked point-wise classification, the Ensemble Bagged Trees classifier achieved 88.79% accuracy and a macro-F1 score of 0.874. These results indicate that S11 and S21 provide complementary proof-of-concept indicators for controlled-mixture screening of grape molasses adulteration.

Modulation of stress and neuroplasticity biomarkers via rhythmic vocalization: a controlled study on NDNF, cortisol, and monoamines

    Okur, Süheyb; Bayraktar, Bülent

Background: The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of reciting the Quran (from Mushaf) on serotonin, dopamine, NDNF, and cortisol levels in relation to mental well-being. Methods: This study was conducted on a sample of university students who know how to read the Quran in Türkiye, selected by a non-probability method, with a pre-test-post-test control group and a longitudinal design; the assignment to the groups was also done randomly. The research was carried out with 72 university students (36 female, 36 male), aged 19–30, who know how to read the Quran and do not have any health problems. Two groups were formed: a 36-person experimental group and a 36-person passive resting control group. The Mental Well-Being Scale and a personal information form were used to evaluate the participants’ well-being status. Salivary serotonin, dopamine, NDNF, and cortisol levels were examined using the ELISA technique in samples taken before and after the experimental group recited verses 195–200 of Surah Al-i Imran aloud. Number, percentage, mean, Pearson correlation, and ANOVA tests were used to evaluate the data. Statistical significance was accepted as p <.05 for all analyses. Results: A significant group-time interaction was found (p <.05). Compared to the passive resting control group, the experimental group showed statistically significant increases in salivary serotonin, dopamine, and NDNF levels, and a significant decrease in cortisol levels. However, a critical dissociation was observed: despite this neuroprotective biomarker profile, the control group reported statistically significantly higher post-intervention mental well-being scores than the experimental group (p <.05). This suggests that the acute cognitive load and performance anxiety associated with the recitation task may temporarily mask physiological benefits in self-reports. Conclusions: A brief (5-minute) ‘Tartil’ recitation of the Quran demonstrates immediate, positive neurobiological effects by reducing stress hormones (cortisol) and increasing reward- and neuroplasticity-related biomarkers (dopamine, serotonin, NDNF). However, this did not immediately translate to higher self-reported well-being, suggesting the relationship between the neurobiology of recitation and its perceived psychological effects is complex and potentially confounded by factors such as performance anxiety or cognitive load in an experimental setting. Clinical trial number: Not applicable.

Identification of additional probiotic attributes in yeasts isolated from tarhana fermentation

Erdem, Belgin; Kaya, Halil İbrahim; Tulumoğlu, Şener; Coteli, Ebru; Şimşek, Ömer

Fermented foods constitute a valuable source of probiotics for both bacteria and yeasts. To date, however, there has been a limited amount of research conducted on Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Kazakhstania servazzi, Kluyveromyces marxianus and Torulaspora delbrueckii isolated from tarhana. The objective of the research is to identify additional probiotic characteristics other than the leavening activity exhibited by yeasts that were previously isolated from tarhana fermentation. In this study, yeasts were subjected to subsequent acid and bile salt tolerance, bile salt hydrolysis, antagonistic activity, aggregation activity (auto-aggregation and co-aggregation), cholesterol assimilation, folate production, biofilm production, and hemolysis activity. S. cerevisiae PCF122, S. cerevisiae PCF107, and S. cerevisiae PCF134 strains grew at pH 2 and 2,5 but remained at pH 3. Except for S. cerevisiae PCF115 and T. delbrueckii PCF150, all yeasts were found to be 0,5% and 1,0% oxalate tolerant. All yeasts hydrolyze oxalate (bile salt), but only S. cerevisiae PCF115 and T. delbrueckii PCF150 produced EPS. Yeasts also exhibited significant amounts of autoaggregation (46–87%). After 24 and 48 h incubation, all strains assimilated cholesterol at rates ranging from 10,4% to 87,5% and 10,6–91%, respectively. The highest folate production was determined at S. cerevisiae PCF108 (56 µg/mL) and the lowest was at S. cerevisiae PCF110 and K. marxianus PFC120 (18 µg/mL). In conclusion, yeasts that existed in tarhana fermentation showed cholesterol assimilation, folate production, and aggregation activity which are additional probiotic attributes that would have consumer health promotion, beside these yeast leaven the tarhana dough.

Depression and psychiatric help-seeking as joint outcomes: a Bayesian multilevel analysis of household-level dependence

Camadan, Fatih; Yıldız, Mehmet Selim; Şahin, Hatice Büşra; Urak, Faruk; Börekçi, Taha Berkay; Bilgiç, Abdulbaki

Background: Depression and the utilization of psychiatric services (PSU) are complex mental health outcomes shaped by a wide range of individual, familial, and socioeconomic factors. However, within the context of Türkiye, limited attention has been devoted to the simultaneous modeling of these outcomes and to the systematic examination of their shared household-level determinants. Methods: This study conducts a concurrent analysis of two binary outcomes—self-reported depression and receipt of professional psychiatric care within the past 12 months—using data from a nationally representative household survey. The analytical sample comprises 22,742 individuals nested within 10,028 households across Türkiye. A Bayesian multilevel bivariate logistic regression model was employed to account explicitly for the hierarchical structure of the data, with individuals nested within households. Household-level random intercepts were specified for both outcomes, and the correlation between the latent processes underlying depression and PSU was directly estimated. Weakly informative priors were adopted, and model estimation was performed using the No-U-Turn Sampler (NUTS), an efficient variant of the Hamiltonian Monte Carlo algorithm. Results: The results reveal pronounced clustering of both depression and PSU at the household level. A strong positive correlation between household-level random effects indicates that individuals experiencing depression are substantially more likely to utilize psychiatric services within the same family context. At the individual level, men are significantly less likely than women to report depressive symptoms or to seek psychiatric care. Tobacco and alcohol use are positively associated with depression risk, whereas adequate rest and healthier lifestyle behaviors exhibit protective effects. Increases in body mass index (BMI) are associated with a higher likelihood of depression. In contrast, active employment and higher household income are linked to reduced depression risk. Additionally, a range of sociodemographic and economic characteristics exert significant effects on both depression and PSU. Conclusions: These findings demonstrate that depression and psychiatric service utilization (PSU) are shaped not only by individual-level characteristics but also by shared familial and structural factors. The results underscore the need for mental health policies that move beyond narrowly individual-centered frameworks and instead adopt holistic strategies that incorporate household dynamics and broader socioeconomic conditions.

An Examination of Factors Affecting Pre-service Science Teachers' Perceived Satisfaction Levels in Distance Education

Arici, Faruk; Salar, Rıza; Yilmaz, Rabia Meryem

With the advancement of technology, traditional classroom environments have been increasingly replaced by technology-driven learning settings. This transition has been further accelerated by global crises such as wars, health emergencies, and economic instability, pushing education beyond conventional boundaries. Among these settings, e-learning has significantly enhanced the accessibility and availability of education. This study aimed to examine the relationships between perceived satisfaction, learning outcomes, course structure, course content, instructor role, instructor feedback, and technology quality in e-learning. It also investigated the factors influencing university students' perceived satisfaction in both asynchronous and synchronous e-learning settings. The study involved 247 university students (47 males and 200 females) who participated in a one-year distance education program in science education. After attending synchronous and asynchronous courses for 14 weeks, data was collected. The findings revealed that students did not perceive distance education as more effective than face-to-face instruction. However, with an explained variance of 77%, the proposed model demonstrated that learning outcomes, course structure, course content, instructor role, instructor feedback, and technology quality significantly influenced perceived satisfaction. Among these, learning outcomes, course content, and technology quality had a direct impact. These findings highlight the need for educational institutions to enhance the quality of course content, technology infrastructure, and learning outcomes in e-learning environments to improve student satisfaction and engagement.

Apak, Ömer Ceyhun; Taş, Muhammed; Güneş, Erkan

This paper examines the serial mediating role of emotional solidarity and perceived concern in the impact of community commitment on support for tourism development. The study is designed within the framework of the relational survey model, which is one of the quantitative research designs. The data were collected from the residents of Bayburt (Türkiye), one of the destinations in the early stages of tourism development. The residents participating in the study were informed that it was voluntary. Thus, the study was conducted on a total of 423 samples. SPSS and PROCESS macros Model 6 were used to analyze the data in the study. As a result of the study, community commitment and emotional solidarity were positive, and perceived concern was negatively related to support for tourism development. In addition, it was determined that emotional solidarity and perceived concern significantly mediate the effect of community commitment on support for tourism development.

The Role of Techno-Ethical Classroom Behavior and Metacognitive Experiences Over Time in Students’ Artificial Intelligence Addictions

    Durmus, Ibrahim

The study aims to identify the factors that may influence university students’ artificial intelligence addiction in educational activities. The study sample consists of 415 students currently studying at Bayburt University. The snowball sampling method was used in the research. In the study, an electronic survey was conducted with university students. The research surveys were distributed to students attending face-to-face education at various departments of Bayburt University by academic staff (or educators). Students participated in the study voluntarily. In the research application, statistical analysis programs such as SPSS, SPSS Process Macro, and AMOS were utilized. The study was designed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The analyses revealed relational outcomes of the research variables, along with the demographic information of the students. In the analyses, results for both direct effect hypotheses and moderator effect hypotheses were also presented. The study explores the relationships between negative classroom behavior from a techno-ethical perspective, positive and negative metacognitive experiences related to the passage of time, and artificial intelligence addiction. The results of the study indicate that negative classroom behavior from a techno-ethical perspective increases students’ artificial intelligence addiction. The students’ negative techno-ethical classroom behavior reduced their positive metacognitive experiences related to the passage of time. At the same time, increased their negative metacognitive experiences related to the passage of time. Students’ positive and negative metacognitive experiences associated with time also increased their artificial intelligence addiction. It was observed that many students dedicated more than two hours, or between two and one hour, to artificial intelligence and its applications in their daily activities. In the relationship between negative techno-ethical classroom behavior and artificial intelligence addiction, the daily usage time of artificial intelligence played a moderating role. The daily usage time of artificial intelligence strengthened the relationship between negative techno-ethical classroom behavior and artificial intelligence addiction. There was also a moderating effect of positive metacognitive experiences related to the passage of time in the relationship between negative techno-ethical classroom behavior and artificial intelligence addiction. The student’s educational status and gender were found to have moderating effects on the relationship between negative techno-ethical classroom behavior and artificial intelligence addiction.

Adverse childhood experiences and problematic gambling among young adults: a moderated serial mediation analysis

Yayla, İbrahim Erdoğan; Makas, Samet; Dombak, Kübra; Bekir, Seyhan; Çelik, Eyüp; Arpaci, Ibrahim; Baloglu, Mustafa

Problem gambling is a serious public health issue among young adults today and the literature suggests that adverse childhood experiences may be associated with it. Additionally, difficulties in emotion regulation and self-control may contribute to the association between problem gambling and adverse childhood experiences. Sensation seeking and a family history of gambling may also influence these relationships. Hence, we examined the relationship between adverse childhood experiences and problem gambling among young adults. We analyzed the collected data from 579 young adults (18–29 years old, 67.5% male) via an online survey using a cross-sectional research design. More specifically, we tested the serial mediating roles of difficulties in emotion regulation and self-control, as well as the moderating roles of sensation seeking and a family history of gambling. We found a significant positive association between adverse childhood experiences and problem gambling. Both difficulties in emotion regulation and self-control had significant mediating effects. Sensation seeking and family history of gambling moderated the mediating effects, strengthening the pathways leading to problem gambling at higher levels of sensation seeking and in the presence of family gambling history. These findings indicate that emotion regulation and self-control are important psychological processes in explaining the relationship between adverse childhood experiences and problem gambling. They also suggest that high sensation seeking and a family history of gambling may strengthen the relationships.
