Fatty acid compositions and quality of egg and performance in laying quails fed diet with hesperidin

Özbilgin, Abdullah; Kara, Kanber; Gümüş, Recep; Tekçe, Emre

This study investigates the effects of hesperidin on eggs’ internal and external quality parameters, the fatty acid in egg yolk, and the nutrient content adding different amounts of hesperidin to the quail diets. A total of 150 Japanese quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica) were divided into three groups (0% hesperidin group (n = 5 × 10) (control group; HES0), 0.1% hesperidin group (HES1), and 0.2% hesperidin group (HES2)) with five replicates. It has been found in the analysis that hesperidin did not affect the weight and thickness of the shell from the external quality parameters of the egg (P > 0.05), but in terms of the HES1 and HES2 groups, the weight of the egg increased compared to the HES0 group, while the fracture resistance of the shell decreased (P < 0.05). Eggs’ internal quality parameters have shown that the egg white width (P < 0.05) and the yolk diameter (P < 0.01) increased in the HES1 and HES2 groups, and the length of white decreased (P < 0.05). It has been found that n-6 (linoleic acid) and n-3 (docosahexaenoic acid) fatty acid values increased significantly according to hesperidin dosage (P < 0.05) from the parameters of the composition of fatty acids of the eggs. As a result, it is believed that hesperidin added to the diet has a generally positive effect on the fatty acid composition and internal and external quality parameters of the eggs and would be appropriate to use it as a feed additive.

Students’ Well-Being and Academic Achievement: A Meta-Analysis Study

    Kaya, Metin; Erdem, Cahit

A considerable amount of literature has been published on students’ well-being, but empirical research has yielded ambiguous results regarding the relationship between well-being and academic achievement. Meta-analysis studies on this issue are scarce, and the available studies focus on a single domain of well-being. Meta-analyses investigating students’ general well-being and academic achievement are needed. To this end, we carried out a meta-analysis study on the association between students’ general well-being and academic achievement based on data from correlational studies involving 54,426 participants in 81 independent samples. We report a significant and positive but small effect size based on this dataset. The effect sizes differ significantly in terms of the moderator variables of publication year, age, school level, and publication type, while the correlation is robust across well-being domains, academic areas, scale types, and development levels of countries. Results are discussed and implications are suggested in line with the literature.

Impact of Managers’ Innovation Perception on Innovation Activities and Innovation Strategies in Hotel Businesses

Karakaş, Ayhan; Bilgin, Yusuf; Yildiz, Muhammed Raşit; Bilgin, MH; Danis, H; Demir, E; Can, U

The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of managers’ innovation perceptions on innovation activities and innovation strategies in hotel business. The research also examined the relationship between innovation types applied in hotel businesses and innovation strategies. Quantitative method was used in the research. The universe of the research constitutes hotel businesses operating in the Western Black Sea Region. Survey data were obtained using questionnaire technique. As a result of the analysis, it is determined that the innovation perceptions of the managers of the hotel businesses has an effect on the types of innovations applied in the businesses. Nevertheless, it has been determined that business managers’ perceptions of innovation have no meaningful effect on innovation strategies applied to the business. In other words, it has been reached that the innovation strategies of the businesses are determined by the variables other than the innovation perceptions of the managers. The research also find that there is a relationship between innovation types applied in hotel businesses and innovation strategies.
