Bekir, Seyhan; Yayla, İbrahim Erdoğan; Makas, Samet; Manci, Egemen; Yildirim, Murat
Objective: Problematic online gaming has emerged as a growing concern among young adults, often linked to reduced well-being and increased mental health problems. This study aimed to investigate whether depression, anxiety, and stress mediate the relationship between life satisfaction and problematic online gaming among young adults. Method: A total of 336 Turkish students participated in this cross-sectional study by completing self-reported measures of life satisfaction, depression, anxiety, stress, and problematic online gaming via an online survey. Results: Results indicate that lower life satisfaction related to higher levels of stress and depression, which in turn increase problematic online gaming behaviors. In contrast, anxiety did not have a significant mediating role, since its confidence interval included zero. Conclusions: In conclusion, both direct and indirect associations were found between lower life satisfaction and problematic online gaming, through stress and depression. Anxiety was not found to have a significant mediating effect in this relationship. These findings suggest that interventions aimed at enhancing life satisfaction and reducing psychological suffering could help to prevent such behavior.

Objectives: The present study aims to examine the relationships between social isolation, social support, and life satisfaction in parents with and without children with special needs. Methods: The data for this study were obtained from 422 parents with children. Of the participants, 266 (63.0%) were mothers, and 156 (37.0%) were fathers, with an average age of 39.43 (SD = 7.62; range = 22–65). Convenience sampling was used in this study. When examining the marital status distribution, 386 participants (91.5%) were married, and 36 (8.5%) were single. Furthermore, 203 parents (48.1%) stated that they had a child with special needs, while 219 (51.9%) stated that they did not have a child with special needs. Results: The correlation analysis revealed that all variables are related to each other. Furthermore, structural equation modeling results showed that social support plays a mediating role in the relationship between social isolation and life satisfaction. Conclusions: This research evaluates parents with and without disabled children in terms of social isolation, social support, and life satisfaction, and indicates that social support is significantly more important for parents with disabled children compared to those without.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2025The interplay between university students' needs, maturity levels (personal, familial, and social), and life satisfaction
Akyüz, Ahmet Mutlu; Durmus, Ibrahim
It is essential for young Turkish individuals (university students) to rapidly develop their skills and abilities to take on leadership roles in society. To become well-equipped individuals who contribute to societal welfare and development, these young adults must undergo a healthy adolescent maturity process. Therefore, providing a supportive environment for Turkish adolescents during their maturation is crucial. This study investigates how fulfilling all hierarchical needs (PSN, LBN, ESAN) affects Turkish adolescents' life satisfaction (LS) and their personal (PM), familial (FM), and social (SM) maturity levels. The study sample consists of 397 Turkish university students. The proposed research model was tested using PLS-SEM analysis. The findings indicate that fulfilling all hierarchical needs positively affects life satisfaction. Additionally, life satisfaction serves as a mediator between the fulfillment of hierarchical needs and maturity levels. However, the most fundamental physical and security needs are not adequately met, hindering personal maturity. Furthermore, love and belonging needs and esteem and self-actualization needs positively impact all maturity levels.

Background: Problematic digital gaming has emerged as a significant behavioral concern among adolescents, with potential implications for well-being. Understanding the mechanisms through which problematic digital gaming affects life satisfaction and how these mechanisms may differ by gender is important for targeted interventions. Aims: This study aimed to investigate the mediating role of difficulties in emotion regulation and the moderating role of gender in the relationship between problematic digital gaming and life satisfaction among adolescents. Method: The sample consisted of 458 Turkish adolescents (232 females, 50.7%) aged between 14 and 18 years (M = 16.27). Participants completed the Game Addiction Scale for Adolescents—Short Form, the Life Satisfaction Scale, and the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale—8. Results: Problematic digital gaming was found to have a significant negative association with life satisfaction. Difficulties in emotion regulation significantly mediated the relationship between problematic digital gaming and life satisfaction. Furthermore, gender moderated this mediation effect, with difficulties in emotion regulation being more pronounced among males than females. Conclusions: The findings highlight the importance of emotional regulation in understanding the negative impact of problematic digital gaming on adolescents’ life satisfaction, particularly among males. These results suggest the need for gender-sensitive approaches in interventions aimed at improving emotion regulation skills and reducing problematic gaming behavior.

- Yüksek Lisans TeziAçık Erişim2021Ergenlerin olumsuz otomatik düşüncelerinin, yaşam doyumlarına etkisinin incelenmesi
Emine Ecem Cansever
Elde edilen veriler bağımlı ve bağımsız değişkenler dikkate alınarak, bilgisayar ortamında SPSS 22. 0 (Statistical package for the Social Sciences) paket programı kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir.

Kaya, Metin; Erdem, Cahit
A considerable amount of literature has been published on students’ well-being, but empirical research has yielded ambiguous results regarding the relationship between well-being and academic achievement. Meta-analysis studies on this issue are scarce, and the available studies focus on a single domain of well-being. Meta-analyses investigating students’ general well-being and academic achievement are needed. To this end, we carried out a meta-analysis study on the association between students’ general well-being and academic achievement based on data from correlational studies involving 54,426 participants in 81 independent samples. We report a significant and positive but small effect size based on this dataset. The effect sizes differ significantly in terms of the moderator variables of publication year, age, school level, and publication type, while the correlation is robust across well-being domains, academic areas, scale types, and development levels of countries. Results are discussed and implications are suggested in line with the literature.
