Objective: Problematic online gaming has emerged as a growing concern among young adults, often linked to reduced well-being and increased mental health problems. This study aimed to investigate whether depression, anxiety, and stress mediate the relationship between life satisfaction and problematic online gaming among young adults. Method: A total of 336 Turkish students participated in this cross-sectional study by completing self-reported measures of life satisfaction, depression, anxiety, stress, and problematic online gaming via an online survey. Results: Results indicate that lower life satisfaction related to higher levels of stress and depression, which in turn increase problematic online gaming behaviors. In contrast, anxiety did not have a significant mediating role, since its confidence interval included zero. Conclusions: In conclusion, both direct and indirect associations were found between lower life satisfaction and problematic online gaming, through stress and depression. Anxiety was not found to have a significant mediating effect in this relationship. These findings suggest that interventions aimed at enhancing life satisfaction and reducing psychological suffering could help to prevent such behavior.

Adverse childhood experiences and problematic gambling among young adults: a moderated serial mediation analysis

Problem gambling is a serious public health issue among young adults today and the literature suggests that adverse childhood experiences may be associated with it. Additionally, difficulties in emotion regulation and self-control may contribute to the association between problem gambling and adverse childhood experiences. Sensation seeking and a family history of gambling may also influence these relationships. Hence, we examined the relationship between adverse childhood experiences and problem gambling among young adults. We analyzed the collected data from 579 young adults (18–29 years old, 67.5% male) via an online survey using a cross-sectional research design. More specifically, we tested the serial mediating roles of difficulties in emotion regulation and self-control, as well as the moderating roles of sensation seeking and a family history of gambling. We found a significant positive association between adverse childhood experiences and problem gambling. Both difficulties in emotion regulation and self-control had significant mediating effects. Sensation seeking and family history of gambling moderated the mediating effects, strengthening the pathways leading to problem gambling at higher levels of sensation seeking and in the presence of family gambling history. These findings indicate that emotion regulation and self-control are important psychological processes in explaining the relationship between adverse childhood experiences and problem gambling. They also suggest that high sensation seeking and a family history of gambling may strengthen the relationships.

The research aims to examine the attitudes of individuals who are victims of abuse and those who are not towards marriage in terms of ambivalent sexism. The research study group consists of 718 individuals between the ages of 18–48. Research data were collected with the Inonu Marriage Attitude Scale and Ambivalent Sexism Inventory. As a result of the correlation analysis, it was concluded that the marriage attitude was positively and significantly correlated with hostile and protective sexism. However, since the relationship between hostile sexism and attitudes towards marriage is lower than that of protective sexism, hostile sexism was not included in the model as a control variable. In the covariance analysis, it is seen that protective sexism and sexual abuse predict the attitude towards marriage at a statistically significant level. In addition, when the effect of sexual abuse on the attitude towards marriage was examined by controlling the protective sexism variable, it was found that it was statistically significant without the effect of sexism. According to the findings, it was determined that individuals who were not victims of sexual abuse had higher attitudes towards marriage than those who were victims. Copyright:
