Kuzu, Mehmet; Kocaoglu, Fatih
Financial resilience depends on both prevailing pressures and the resources available to maintain financial functions. This study proposes a Global Financial Resilience Index (GFRI) that combines selected structural indicators with the inverse of geopolitical, policy, and market pressures. The formal retrospective sample covers January 2000-June 2026; July-August extensions are reported separately. Fixed-reference standardisation and geometric aggregation produce a transparent capacity-pressure composite, not a measure of environmental, social or intergenerational sustainability. Fixed-basket comparisons retain some capacity improvement, but a balanced five-indicator panel covers only 20 economies and 12.4-16.0% of global GDP. Country selection and calibration alter the pandemic-era ranking. The OECD growth-cycle mean difference is -8.30 points with HAC(12) p = 0.055. Classification AUC is 0.658, with a 12-month block-bootstrap 95% interval of 0.468-0.821, and does not improve on matched stress benchmarks. The incremental explanatory power of industrial production is negligible. Weight simulations and publication-lag tests reveal uncertainty in material construction. The index offers a reproducible description of selected capacity and pressure conditions; the evidence does not support operational policy bands, superior crisis prediction or comprehensive sustainability claims.

Paloluoglu, Cihan; Akmese Tarlan, Yasemin; Bayar, Serkan
In this study, atmospheric Total Suspended Particulate Matter (TSP) concentrations in a semi-urban area of Bayburt Province were evaluated in terms of seasonal variation, temporal behavior with meteorological factors, and air-mass transport characteristics. TSP sampling was conducted using the active sampling method over 118 days during the cold and warm-seasons sampling campaign of 2022. A high-volume air sampler (HVAS) and glass fiber filters (GFFs) were used, and TSP concentrations were determined gravimetrically. The mean TSP concentration was 29.13 +/- 29.39 & micro;g/m(3) in cold-season sampling campaign and 43.69 +/- 27.62 & micro;g/m(3) in warm-season sampling campaign. According to standard tests, the seasonal difference was nominally statistically significant (p < 0.05; Cohen's d approximate to 0.51; Cliff's delta approximate to 0.38). However, this significance did not persist after adjusting for serial autocorrelation in the AR(1) model (p = 0.151). However, this comparison should be interpreted not as validated seasonal climatological data, but as a comparison between intermittent sampling studies conducted within a single calendar year. This is because the transition period from spring to summer was not included in the sampling, and the studies were not repeated from year to year. OpenAir analyses showed that high TSP concentrations were particularly associated with easterly and southerly airflows. No clear weekday/weekend difference was observed, although episodic increases occurred on several days. The first two principal components explained 77.8% of the total variance, while the high TSP loading on PC3 indicated complementary variability. NOAA-HYSPLIT backward air-mass trajectory analyses indicated regional transport pathways in most high-TSP episodes, whereas local atmospheric stagnation was prominent in one episode. Overall, the findings show that TSP variability in semi-urban areas should be evaluated together with seasonal-meteorological variability, potential local emission effects, and regional air-mass transport.

Cakir, Mehmet; Engin, Mustafa Alptekin; Camuzcuoglu, Murat
In this study, waste polypropylene (PP) and magnetite (Fe3O4) mineral-reinforced cement-based pyramidal composite structures were designed, manufactured, and experimentally characterized to reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI) problems in the 3.3–4.9 GHz frequency band for 5G communication systems. Unlike traditional planar concrete surfaces, the aim was to minimize surface reflections and obtain an absorption-dominant shielding mechanism by providing gradient impedance matching through the pyramidal geometry. Although the use of carbon-based nanomaterials is common in the current literature, their high cost and corrosion risks limit their large-scale applications. This study involves the evaluation of waste polypropylene disposal and self-enriching magnetite mineral together. Theoretical analyses were supported by the Lichtenecker Logarithmic Mixing Rule and the Maxwell–Garnett model, and seven different mixing scenarios (S1–S7) were measured using the free-space method with a Libre vector network analyzer. Experimental results showed that the pure concrete sample exhibited predominantly reflective behaviour, with shielding performance improving significantly as the filler ratio increased. The S4 sample, containing 15% PP and 10% magnetite, offered broadband and balanced absorption performance, while the S7 sample, containing 25% PP and 25% magnetite, provided the highest shielding effectiveness with reflection below −10 dB across the entire band and transmission loss reaching −65 dB.

Wetlands are transitional between terrestrial and aquatic environments and have essential ecological functions. Unfortunately, due to anthropogenic activities and climate change, the area covered by wetlands is gradually decreasing worldwide, causing deterioration and loss of their critical and vital ecological functions. One of these degraded wetlands is the Hürmetçi Sazlığı, a nationally important wetland located in the Kayseri Province of Turkey. This study aims to determine the spatial and vertical (depth profile) distribution and the sources of the potentially toxic elements (PTEs) As, Cd, Pb, and Zn in the soils around the Hürmetçi Sazlığı Wetland (HSW) and to evaluate environmental risk factors using various soil quality indicators. According to the results obtained, it was determined that some parts of the wetland soils were significantly polluted in terms of As, Cd, Pb, and Zn. The concentrations (in mg/kg) of these PTEs in the soil around the wetland ranged between 9.12 and 273.9 for As, 0.38 and 1119.46 for Cd, 3.59 and 1807.66 for Pb, and 41.68 and 77,287.5 for Zn. Several soil quality indicators, including the Enrichment Factor (EF), Contamination Factor (CF), Ecological Risk Index (ERI), and Potential Ecological Risk Index (RI), were calculated to determine the quality and pollution levels of the collected soil samples. According to the calculated RI values, 70 out of 77 sites sampled in the area around the HSW are in the “High Risk” class in terms of all studied PTEs. The soil profile samples indicated that the topsoil (0–50 cm) was heavily contaminated by all PTEs, particularly near a zinc processing plant established in 1976. In addition, parts of the wetland further away from the Zn processing plant were also affected by arsenic pollution from geogenic sources, which can be associated with Plio-Quaternary volcanic activity in the region.

Saygın, Muhammet; Say, Serkan; Öztürk, İsmail Yavuz; Gülden, Bahadır; Kaplan, Kadir
This study explores the relationship between teachers’ entrepreneurial behaviors and their creativity-nurturing behaviors, with a particular emphasis on sustainability in education. While previous studies have typically examined entrepreneurship and creativity as separate concepts, often focusing on their individual dimensions, this study underscores the significance of integrating entrepreneurial and creative competencies to promote sustainable educational practices. By highlighting how teachers’ entrepreneurial and creative skills contribute to sustainable education, this study addresses the broader impact these competencies have on meeting the evolving needs and expectations of students, families, and society. This approach supports the development of a more resilient and adaptive education system that can thrive over time. The research involved 1396 classroom teachers from the Mersin province of Turkey. Analysis of the data revealed a strong positive correlation between teachers’ entrepreneurial behaviors and their creativity-nurturing behaviors, indicating that teachers who exhibit higher levels of entrepreneurial traits are more likely to engage in practices that foster creativity or that teachers who exhibit higher levels of creativity nurturing behaviors are more likely to engage in entrepreneurial practices among their students. Thus, the importance of the high-level relationship between entrepreneurial behaviors and creativity-enhancing behaviors in improving sustainability in education has been revealed. This study highlights the need to integrate entrepreneurial skills into teaching practices to support a sustainable educational framework.

Akyol Özcan, Kübra
Food price bubbles are a phenomenon in which the cost of some food items or food commodities climbs quickly and unreasonably before collapsing due to reasons such as speculation, supply and demand imbalances, meteorological occurrences, and governmental actions. Governments and academics keep an eye on food prices to spot and address these bubbles. The aim of this paper is to analyze the food price bubble phenomenon despite the global slowdown by examining its origins, consequences, and policy solutions. The study’s contribution lies in its investigation of the presence of a potential bubble formation in food prices, which have experienced a surge globally and particularly in Turkey in recent years. The research examines the behavior of bubble formation in food prices in Turkey, the FAO, the OECD, and the IMF between 1992 and 2022 using the ADF, SADF, and GSADF tests. These tests can help identify when asset prices deviate significantly from their fundamental values and may be at risk of a sharp correction. The TUR, FAO, OECD, and IMF variables all show distinct bubble formations, with the TUR variable having 130 periods from 1995 to 2006, the FAO having 8 price bubble occurrences, the OECD having 12 different bubble formations, and the IMF having 4 distinct bubble formations. The results indicate the existence of food price bubbles that demonstrate disparities from their inherent values grounded in market fundamentals.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2023Scopus SJRQ1Sustainability Ranking of Turkish Universities with Different Weighting Approaches and the TOPSIS Method
Akyol Özcan, Kübra
The concept of sustainability has become more important, especially as a result of the depletion of energy resources and increasing environmental concerns. UI GreenMetric ranks universities based on sustainability, environmental, and energy concerns, addressing issues of environmental pollution, food and water scarcity, and energy supply. By prioritizing sustainability on their campuses and campuses, universities are working to ensure a more sustainable future for humanity. This study evaluates university sustainability in energy and climate change using the UI GreenMetric ranking, focusing on Turkish universities’ sustainability ranking. It incorporates variables like infrastructure, energy, climate change, waste, water, public transportation, and educational research, using weighting approaches to reveal the most important variables for the country’s universities. The study utilized weighting techniques like CRITIC, entropy, standard deviation-based, and equal weighting approaches to obtain rankings for UI GreenMetric rankings. Entropy and equal weighting methods were found to be closest to the UI GreenMetric rankings. Universities’ rankings were analyzed using the TOPSIS method and four weighting techniques for 83 Turkish universities. For Turkish universities, the CRITIC method yielded the highest weight for energy and climate change variables, while water was identified as the most significant factor for entropy, installation infrastructure, and standard deviation-based weighting techniques.

Karatas, Neva; Ercisli, Sezai; Bozhuyuk, Mehmet Ramazan; Cakir, Ozlem; Necas, Tomas; Ondrasek, Ivo
The northeastern Anatolia region of Turkey is one of the richest plant biodiversity areas in Turkey. This study describes some important tree and fruit characteristics of 20 seed-propagated summer apple genotypes from northeastern Anatolia using morphological and biochemical markers. The genotypes were evaluated morphologically for tree growth habit, ripening date, fruit weight, fruit firmness, fruit shape, fruit color, fruit taste, juiciness and aroma. The biochemical characteristics measured were organic acids, SSC (soluble solid content), titratable acidity, vitamin C, total phenolic content and antioxidant capacity. We found significant differences for most of the morphological and biochemical characteristics. The genotypes exhibited quite diverse harvest dates ranging from 4 July to 16 August. Summer apple genotypes had fruit weight between 101.9 g and 133.5 g. The genotypes had diverse fruit shapes, including round, conic and oblate, and over fruit colours such as pink, red, yellow and green. Genotypes GUM7 and GUM13 stood out for fruit weight, SSC, total phenolic and antioxidant capacity. GUM7 and GUM13 present dissimilarity from the other genotypes. While the first showed a lower average fruit weight, SSC, total phenolic content and antioxidant capacity, the second revealed higher average of fruit weight, total phenolic content, antioxidant capacity and higher SSC. Due to their favorable characteristics, GUM13 can be used for further crosses with genotypes of other groups, which also present favorable characteristics.
