Metal nanoparticles that are widely studied in optoelectronics, catalysis, medicine, and sensors offer remarkable optical and electronic properties. To address the cost and environmental concerns associated with their synthesis, this study employs an environmentally friendly method using Laureus nobilis extract to produce silver and zinc nanoparticles, which are prominent in nanotechnology. This study includes investigations of factors such as reaction time, AgNO3/laurel ratio, Zn(Ac)2 H2O/laurel ratio and temperature in nanoparticle biosynthesis to optimize the process. The next stage was set to evaluate the photocatalytic performance of these nanoparticles, specifically against the methylene blue dye under dark and UV light conditions. Parameters such as pollutant decomposition, degradation rate, catalyst stability, and nanoparticle recovery were analysed. Structural characterization of the obtained nanoparticles was performed using UV-Vis, FTIR, SEM, and XRD techniques. The photocatalytic results showed significant degradation percentages for LB-AgNP (silver nanoparticles synthesized with Laureus nobilis extract) (97.5%) and LB-ZnNP (zinc nanoparticles synthesized with Laureus nobilis extract) (90.9%). LB-ZnNP showed superior performance. Therefore, LB-AgNP and LB-ZnNP are promising photocatalysts for water purification and the elimination of toxic organic pollutants.

This study aimed to determine the effects of titanium dioxide nanoparticle (TiO2NP) pretreatment on seeds of different safflower cultivars (Balci, Dinçer) under salt and heat stresses. The apparent effects on stress markers (malondialdehyde (MDA), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and superoxide radical (O2 •⁻) content), as well as changes in germination and physiological parameters (radicle and plumula weight and length measurements), were investigated. TiO2NP pretreatment caused an increase in radicle length and plumula fresh weight for the Balci cultivar under salinity. Furthermore, plumula dry weight was alleviated with TiO2NP pretreatment for both cultivars. TiO2NP pretreatment improved plumula dry and fresh weights for both cultivars under heat stress. In addition, MDA content decreased for both cultivars under heat stress but only for Balci under salt stress. The amount of O2 •⁻ radicals positively affected only the radicle for both cultivars under heat stress. This study is the first to document the alleviation of salt stress damage for the Balci safflower cultivar, and protection for both Balci and Dinçer cultivars under heat stress, using 200 ppm TiO2NP pretreatment.

Nanoscale biomaterials are commonly used in a wide range of biomedical applications such as bone graft substitutes, gene delivery systems, and biologically active agents. On the other hand, the cytotoxic potential of these particles hasn't yet been studied comprehensively to understand whether or not they exert any negative impact on the cellular structures. Here, we undertook the synthesis of beta-tricalcium phosphate (beta-TCP) and biphasic tricalcium phosphate (BCP) nanoparticles (NPs) and determine their concentration-dependent toxic effects in human fetal osteoblastic (hFOB 1.19) cell line. Firstly, BCP and beta-TCP were synthesized using a water-based precipitation technique and characterized by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Raman Spectroscopy, and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). The cytological effects of beta-TCP and BCP at different concentrations (0-640 ppm) were evaluated by using 3- (4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl) -2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) assays. The total oxidative status (TOS) parameter was used for investigating oxidative stress potentials of the NPs. In addition, the study assessed the DNA damage product 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-Oxo-dG) level in hFOB 1.19 cell cultures. The results indicated that the beta-TCP (above 320 ppm) and BCP (above 80 ppm) NPs exhibited cytotoxicity effects on high concentrations. It was also observed that the oxidative stress increased relatively as the concentrations of NPs increased, aligning with the cytotoxicity results. However, the NPs concentrations of 160 ppm and above increased the level of 8-OH-dG. Consequently, there is a need for more systematic in vivo and in vitro approaches to the toxic effects of both nanoparticles.
