The quality and biochemical properties of honey are affected by heating or during storage period. The most important biochemical reaction that occurs in this process is the Maillard reaction. HMF (5-hydroxymethylfurfural) is one of the major intermediate products in the Maillard reaction that can lead to quality reduction in heated honey. In this study, the effect of heating on the antioxidant activity, and colour values as Maillard reaction indicators of three different botanical honeys were investigated; the HMF formation was also determined. Temperatures of 50, 70 and 80 °C were applied on the honeys between 0 and 48 h. Total phenolic content, ferric reducing/antioxidant power and scavenging of 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl free radical assays are used to determine the antioxidant capacity. Results showed that the formation of HMF and the antioxidant properties of honeys were significantly increased during the heating process. Pure HMF compound also showed lower antioxidant activity. The formation of HMF has higher degree of linearity in the fit of the zero order reaction and also it was the highest in the chestnut honey. Furthermore, it was found that as the biochemical value of the honeys increased, the HMF formation decelerated.

Rosa canina seeds (RCS) is considered as a low-cost and promising adsorbent in removal of metal ions; hence, in the present study, we aimed to test the adsorptive removal of Cu(II) ions from aqueous solutions by utilizing RCS in a batch process. After characterization of RCS by using several techniques, the effects of various experimental parameters such as initial pH of aqueous solution, contact time, initial Cu(II) concentration, RCS concentration, temperature, and electrolyte concentration were studied upon the adsorption process. The desorption conditions of Cu(II) ions from the loaded RCS were also evaluated. Maximum Cu(II) adsorption was found to occur at pH 6.0 and the equilibrium was established after 60 min of contact time. The adsorption isotherms were described by means of Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin, and Dubinin Radushkevich models. The adsorption kinetics were analyzed using pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order, Elovich and intraparticle diffusion models and the adsorption data were well described by the pseudo-second-order model. Thermodynamic parameters such as the Gibbs free energy (ΔG), enthalpy (ΔH), and entropy (ΔS) changes were also evaluated and it has been found that the adsorption process was feasible, spontaneous, and endothermic in the temperature range of 278-313 K.

The abundantly available industrial waste product Morus alba L. pomace (MAP) is one of the cost-effective biosorbent for removal of metal ions from aqueous solutions. Hence, in the present study, we aimed to test the ability of MAP to remove Cd(II) ions through batch biosorption process. Firstly, MAP was characterized using several techniques, and then the influence of various experimental parameters such as initial pH of the aqueous solution, initial Cd(II) concentration, contact time, MAP concentration, and temperature were evaluated upon the biosorption process. It was found that the maximum uptake of Cd(II) ions occurred at initial pH 6.0 and optimum contact time was observed as 60 min. Cd(II) ions adsorption on MAP analyzed by the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models and the maximum monolayer biosorption capacity of MAP was found to be 21.69 mg g-1 by using the Langmuir isotherm model. The pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order, Elovich, and intraparticle diffusion models were employed to describe the biosorption kinetics. In order to investigate the thermodynamic properties of the biosorption process, the changes in the Gibbs free energy (â̂†G), enthalpy (â̂†H), and entropy (â̂†S) were also evaluated and it has been concluded that the process was feasible, spontaneous, and endothermic in the temperature range of 5-40 C.

The potential of removing Bomaplex Red CR-L dye from electro coagulation sludge has been investigated for different Bomaplex Red CR-L concentrations with varying adsorbent amount, temperature, pH and stirrer speed. Removal of Bomaplex Red CR-L is found to be high at lower pH values. The maximum adsorption of the dye has been achieved in aqueous solutions using 0.5g of calcinated sludge from electro coagulation at a pH of 2.0 within 20min. The Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models were tested and it was found that the Langmuir equation was fitted better than the Freundlich equation. Maximum adsorption capacity (q m) was calculated as 192.31mg g -1 at 333K. In addition, the adsorption data obtained at various temperatures were successfully applied to pseudo first-order, pseudo second-order and intraparticle diffusion models. The rates of adsorption were found to conform to pseudo second-order kinetics with good correlation (R 2≥0.9997). This study showed that calcinated the sludge from electrocoagulation has a highly adsorbent capacity.

In this work, the carbonic anhydrase was purified from bovine bone marrow and investigated its kinetic properties. Carbonic anhydrase was purified from bovine bone marrow using affinity chromatography by sepharose 4B-L-tyrosine sulphanilamide. During purification steps, the activity of enzyme was measured using p-nitrophenyl acetate at pH: 7.4. Optimum pH and optimum temperature values for bovine bone marrow carbonic anhydrase were determined and then K m and Vmax values for the same substrate were obtained by means of Linewearver-Burk graphics. The purification degree for bovine bone marrow was calculated. The Vmax, and Km values at optimum pH and at 20 °C for the substrate (p-nitrophenyl acetate) were 120.418 uμmol/L min and 2.409 x 103 mM, respectively. The K1 and I50 values for sulfanilamide, KSCN, NaN3 and acetazolamide were determined in bovine bone marrow carbonic anhydrase.
