Köktürk, Seda Nur; Yardımcı, Hülya
Growing concerns over environmental sustainability and health have increased the demand for sustainable diets. Advances in artificial intelligence (AI) offer new opportunities for diet planning. Evaluating the nutritional adequacy and environmental impact of AI-generated sustainable diets is essential. This study aimed to compare the nutritional quality and ecological footprints of sustainable diets created by four popular AI tools (Gemini, Copilot, ChatGPT, and Grok). Each AI tool generated a sustainable diet plan for a healthy adult woman. Diets were evaluated for energy, nutrient content, antioxidant capacity, glycemic index, protein quality, fatty acid profiles, Healthy Eating Index-2015 scores, and ecological footprints. All diets showed low ecological footprints but did not meet energy targets (1800 kcal/day). Gemini had the most sustainable composition. Vitamin B12 was consistently below recommended levels in diets from Gemini, Copilot, and ChatGPT. All diets had adequate carbohydrate, protein, fat quality, and overall diet quality. Carbon footprint associated with protein, energy from protein, cholesterol, pyridoxine, folate, and vitamin C. Water footprint was linked to multiple nutrients, and fruits, meat, poultry, and fish; vegetable intake correlated with carbon footprint. AI-assisted diets have potential for sustainability but nutritional completeness concerns remain, especially for vulnerable groups. Further studies comparing AI and dietitian plans are needed to assess long-term effects.

In this paper, a series of novel hydrazones derived from L-phenyl alanine were synthesized in four steps and employed to inhibit α-glucosidase through kinetic studies, molecular docking, and molecular dynamics analyses. Among the synthesized compounds, 8, 15, and 16 exhibited the strongest inhibitory effects, with IC50 values of 31.08 μM, 24.15 μM, and 19.47 μM, respectively, surpassing the standard inhibitor acarbose (79.63 μM). Molecular docking studies revealed robust interactions, with compound 16 achieving the highest MolDock score of −176.316. Molecular dynamics simulations were conducted to evaluate the binding affinity of compound 16 to the isomaltase enzyme from Saccharomyces cerevisiae (3A4A). The most favorable docking pose was subjected to further analysis through MD simulations under dynamic conditions. The MMGBSA analysis of the simulation cluster indicated a strong binding affinity of approximately −43.06 kcal/mol, highlighting the compound's potential for modulating α-glucosidase activity. These results underscore the potential of bromine and hydroxyl-substituted hydrazones to modulate isomaltase activity, with therapeutic implications for hyperglycemia and obesity management.

Ayazoglu, Rabil; Ekincioglu, Ismail
This paper deals with the following competitive two-species chemotaxis system with two chemicals with a source term of logistic type ut=Δu−χ1∇⋅(u∇υ)+η1u−μ1u2, υt=Δυ−υ+ω, ωt=Δω−χ2∇⋅(ω∇z)+η2ω−μ2ω2, 0=Δz−z+u, (x,t)∈Ω×(0,T) under homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions [Formula presented] and initial conditions u(x,0)=u0(x), υ(x,0)=υ0(x), ω(x,0)=ω0(x), x∈Ω, in a bounded domain Ω⊂RN (N≥1), where the parameters χ1, μ1, μ2>0 and η1, η2, χ2∈R. It is proved that the corresponding initial-boundary value problem possesses a unique global bounded classical solution if one of the following cases holds: (i)χ2≤0, (ii)χ2>0 as well as μ2 is large enough, which partially improves the results of [25].

- MakaleYalnız künye2024Scopus SJRQ2Metacognitive training for algebra teaching to high school students: An action research study
Okumuş, Özlem; Öztürk, Mesut
Metacognition is an essential concept in mathematics education research. Studies indicate that high school students in Turkey must demonstrate expected success in learning mathematics in general and algebra in particular. To this end, the Ministry of National Education has initiated a mathematical mobilization in Turkey. Mathematics mobilization is a project that will adapt the learning of mathematics to daily life skills, making learning more accessible and ensuring that students love this course from an early age. In the initial interviews with teachers as part of this mobilization, teachers stated that high school students needed to exhibit sufficient metacognitive planning and monitoring strategies. Therefore, they required assistance in planning and monitoring their learning processes and motivating them to learn. The literature shows that metacognitive planning and monitoring are effective in teaching algebra. In this context, the research “How can metacognitive strategies be developed in high school students’ algebra learning?” seeks an answer to this problem. Based on preliminary teacher interviews, the researchers created action plans in collaboration with teachers. In the circular model, researchers tested these action plans and revised them. As a result of the cycle being repeated three times, researchers developed a teaching technique based on metacognitive planning and monitoring for high school students. The study's findings demonstrate that metacognitive training taught students metacognitive planning, monitoring, prediction, awareness, and motivation strategies.

Öztekin, Sebahat; Karbancioglu-Guler, Funda
Penicillium digitatum is the primary cause of green mould in mandarins during the postharvest period, mainly controlled through synthetic fungicides. This study evaluated the biocontrol of green mould on mandarin fruit with three antagonistic yeasts (Hanseniaspora uvarum, Meyerozyma guilliermondii, and Metschnikowia aff. pulcherrima P01A016), alone or in combination, by elucidating their possible mechanisms of action. All yeast cultures alone (73.85 % − 80.64 %) and their combinations (78.40 % − 83.18 %) reduced the mycelial growth of green mold in vitro. M. aff. pulcherrima reduced the disease incidence and lesion diameters by 75.5 % and 91.3 %, respectively, demonstrating the highest biocontrolling activity alone. Meyerozyma guilliermondii showed the highest biofilm formation (OD 0.93 ± 0.01) and antifungal activity (71.13 %) through volatile organic compounds (VOCs), while H. uvarum displayed cell-wall degrading β-1,3 glucanase activity together with mycocinogenic and VOCs activity. All tested yeasts showed chitinase, protease, and leucine arylamidase activity. Among dual combinations, M. guilliermondii and M. aff. pulcherrima (M-1) were the most compatible, while M. aff. pulcherrima and H. uvarum (M-3) had the least compatibility. The combined application of these three yeasts resulted in synergistic co-operation, demonstrating the highest biocontrolling efficacy in vitro and in vivo. Integrating multiple mechanisms of action in yeasts could create a hurdle approach for inhibiting green mould in citrus as a green alternative to synthetic fungicides. Thus, our study demonstrated that combining biocontrol yeasts can result in beneficial consortia for the eco-friendly and sustainable management of P.digitatum-caused postharvest diseases of mandarins in both the wounded and intact mandarin fruits.

Ayazoglu, Rabil
This paper deals with the higher dimension quasilinear parabolic-parabolic Keller-Segel system involving a source term of variable logistic type ut=∇⋅(ϕ(u)∇u)−∇⋅(ψ(u)∇υ)+g(x,u), −Δυ=−υ+u, in (x,t)∈Ω×(0,T), subject to nonnegative initial data and homogeneous Neumann boundary condition, where Ω is a smooth and bounded domain in RN (N≥1) and g∈C1(Ω‾×[0,∞)) function satisfies g(x,s)≤ηsk(x)−μsm(x),s>0 with g(x,0)≥0, x∈Ω and η≥0,μ>0 are constants, k,m are measurable functions with 1<k−:=ess infx∈Ωk(x)≤k(x)≤k+:=esssup k(x)x∈Ω<+∞, 2≤m−:=ess infx∈Ωm(x)≤m(x)≤m+:=esssup m(x)x∈Ω<+∞. Positive functions ψ,ϕ∈C2([0,∞)) satisfy νsq≤ψ≤χsq and ϕ≥σsp with p,q∈R, ν,χ,σ>0 when s≥0. It is proved that if q=m−−1 (critical case) and [Formula presented] then there exists a classical solution which is global in time and bounded. Moreover, if q∈(k+−1,m−−1), we obtain that there is a classical solution of the above system uniformly in time bounded without any restrictions on m− and μ.

Chafik, Abdelbasset; Essamadi, Abdelkhalid; Çelik, Safinur Yildirim; Mavi, Ahmet
A novel copper, zinc superoxide dismutase (CuZnSOD) was purified to homogeneity from the liver of an animal well adapted to the stressful living conditions of the desert, the camel (Camelus dromedarius). The biochemical properties of camel liver CuZnSOD were examined. The purified enzyme had a native molecular weight of 28 kDa, as judged by gel filtration chromatography, and showed a single band at 27 kDa on SDS-PAGE, indicating that it is a monomeric protein. Optimal activity of the purified enzyme occurred at 43 °C and pH 6.0, and the activation energy was 1.42 kJ/mol. CuZnSOD activity was strongly inhibited by β-ME, DTT, H 2 O 2 and SDS and slightly inhibited by EDTA, NaN 3 and PMSF. Al 3+ , Ca 2+ , Cd 2+ , Mg 2+ and Zn 2+ stimulated CuZnSOD activity, whereas Ba 2+ , Co 2+ , Fe 2+ and Ni 2+ inhibited it. The purified enzyme contained 0.010 µg of Cu and 0.69 µg of Zn per mg of protein. K m , V max , k cat and k cat /K m values for NBT and riboflavin were 16.27 and 0.16 µM, 20.85 and 21.54 U/mg, 9.65 and 9.97 s −1 , and 0.59 and 62.33 s -1 µM −1 , respectively. Camel liver CuZnSOD exhibited unique biochemical properties compared to those of other CuZnSODs, including lower molecular weight with a monomeric structure, higher optimum temperature, very low E a , very low optimum pH, very low contents of Cu and Zn, and higher affinity, turnover number and catalytic efficiency for riboflavin. These unique properties of camel liver CuZnSOD might be related to the ability of this animal to inhabit stressful desert conditions.

- MakaleYalnız künye2015Scopus SJRQ1Evaluation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in Circassian cheese by high-performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection
Gul, Osman; Dervisoglu, Muhammet; Mortas, Mustafa; Aydemir, Oguz; Ilhan, Eda; Aksehir, Kubra
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) in traditional/industrial smoked and unsmoked Circassian cheeses available in Turkish markets were analysed using solid-phase extraction, followed by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with fluorescence detection. Mean levels of a total of 9 PAHs in smoked traditional and industrial Circassian cheeses were 19.6 and 6.73μgkg-1, while levels in unsmoked traditional and industrial cheeses were 0.77 and 0.49μgkg-1, respectively. The dominant individual PAHs found were naphthalene and acenaphthene. Benzo[a]pyrene, a marker compound representing carcinogenic PAHs, was found in 90% and 30% of traditional smoked and unsmoked Circassian cheeses, 52% and 24% of industrial smoked and unsmoked cheeses, respectively. Correlation statistical analysis showed that benzo[a]pyrene was a good marker for total 9 PAHs in Circassian cheese samples (rB[a]P/sum of 9 PAHs=0.816, p<0.01) as well as the best marker for 5 carcinogenic PAHs (rB[a]P/carcinogenic PAHs=0.904, p<0.01). Risk assessment conducted using daily intakes of sum of 9 PAH levels found in both traditional and industrial smoked Circassian cheese samples showed high risk compared with unsmoked cheeses.
