    Ozen, Nesime Ertan; Kaplan, Kadir

It is aimed to compare the content of mother tongue curriculums at secondary school level in Alberta, Korea and Singapore. In the study, which was designed in accordance with the holistic multiple case study, one of the qualitative research designs, the data collected on the P21 classification were analyzed by descriptive content analysis. When we look at curriculum in general, it has been determined that the learning outcomes of 21st century skills in all of the programs are close to equal distribution in grades. Among the 21st century skills, learning and innovation skills were found to be the skill most associated with learning outcomes for Korea Secondary School Mother Tongue Curriculum, Singapore Secondary School Mother Tongue Curriculum and Turkish Language Curriculum. It is understood that the skills based on learning to learn, problem solving, associating knowledge with previous learning, critical and creative thinking comes to the fore in the learning outcomes, and it is aimed to educate individuals in this direction. It is understood that the learning outcomes related to flexibility and adaptation skills under life and career skills are not included in all programs. In addition, the lack of learning outcomes in initiative and self-direction, productivity and accountability skills in Alberta Secondary School Mother Tongue Curriculum and Singapore Secondary School Mother Tongue Curriculum shows that life and career skills, which are among the 21st century skills, are neglected in these programs.

Does inquiry-based learning model improve learning outcomes? A second-order meta-analysis

Öztürk, Bilge; Kaya, Metin; Demir, Mustafa

This research study aims to utilize a second-order meta-analysis procedure to synthesize the effects of inquiry-based learning model (IBLM) on learning outcomes. An extensive systematic review process resulted in the inclusion of 10 meta-analyses conducted between 2015 and 2022 with minimal overlap between primary studies. The results revealed that IBLM has a medium-level positive effect (d = 0.62) on learning outcomes. The analyses showed that mobile inquiry-based model, learning cycle model and conceptual change text model have high-level positive effect on learning outcomes. Moderator analyses revealed that the effect sizes were not significantly moderated by grade level, content area, location, quality, primary research report type, and publication bias. Limitations, educational implications, and directions for future research are provided.

Learning outcome literacy: The case of five elementary mathematics teachers

    Akdeniz, Dilsad Güven; Argün, Ziya

Learning outcome (LO) literacy is conceptualized as a necessary skill for planning teaching and learning activities effectively. The skill has two main components: understanding and interpreting learning outcomes. The current study aimed to identify learning outcome literacy of elementary mathematics teachers with regard to this conceptualization. It is a case study based on the qualitative design. Participants were 5 mathematics teachers working at different elementary (5th - 8th grade) schools in Turkey. Observations and semi-structured interviews were used for data collection based on 10 learning outcomes selected from algebra and number learning domains in local mathematics curriculum. Content analysis method was used for data analysis. According to the findings, LO literacy can be regarded as a basic teacher competence and it requires the teacher to use the knowledge and skills he/she has. The results showed that participant teachers' LO literacy was insufficient. Considering the interrelation among its components, LO literacy should be developed with all the sub-components for effective teaching of LOs.
