- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ1Artificial neural network modelling of reactive red 45 Azo dye removal by peroxi-electrocoagulation
Bayar, S.; Erdoğan, M.; Taşdemir, A.; Kaleli, A.; Paloluoglu, C.
In the present study, the Peroxi-electrocoagulation process was employed to remove chemical oxygen demand and the decolorization of reactive red 45 dye wastewater. This process offers several advantages, including the oxidation of dye molecules by hydroxyl radicals and coagulation through iron hydroxide precipitation. The reactor was equipped with six iron electrodes, providing a total surface area of 546 cm2. The effects of applied current (0.3–0.18 A), hydrogen peroxide concentration (100–700 mg/L), initial pH (2.5–5.0), and dye concentration (100–500 mg/L) on chemical oxygen demand and color removal were investigated. Optimum operational conditions were determined to be applied current of 0.150 (corresponding to current density of 0.27 mA/cm2), pH of 3.0, H2O2 concentration of 600 mg/L, and dye concentration of 200 mg/L. Under these conditions, COD and color efficiencies reached 83% and > 99%, respectively. The specific energy consumption under optimal conditions was 33.4 kWh/kg COD with 82.8% COD removal. The findings indicate that increasing the applied current and H2O2 concentration enhances removal performance up to a certain threshold, beyond which no significant improvement is observed. This suggests that the availability of electrogenerated reagents governs the overall reaction efficiency. Additionally, an artificial neural network model was developed to predict COD and color removal efficiencies. The network employed a 4:10:2 architecture and was trained using a backpropagation algorithm. Input variables included applied current, pH, H2O2 concentration, and dye concentration. The model exhibited high predictive accuracy, with R2 of 0.9782 for COD removal and 0.9579 for Color removal, confirming the effectiveness of the ANN in modeling.

The present work aims to investigate the removal of three cationic dyes (Basic Orange 2, Basic Yellow 2 and Basic Violet 3) from aqueous solutions by montmorillonite under various experimental conditions. Cationic dyes were selected Basic Orange 2 (BO2), Basic Yellow 2 (BY2) and Basic Violet 3 (BV3). The effects of pH, initial dye concentration, adsorbent dose, agitation speed and ionic strength, on the removal of dyes were studied. According to the experiments results, it was shown, that maximum removal was achieved in less than 45 min. The results indicate that the montmorillonite can be used as a low cost alternative according to other adsorbents in the removal of dyes from wastewater. The maximum adsorption efficiency levels attained were as follows: 95.849% BO2, 99.562% BY2 and 99.169% BV3 onto montmorillonite at pH: 5.0, 100 mg/L initial dye concentration, 0.75g/L clay dosage, 300 rpm agitation speed, 0 M NaCl ionic strength and 293 K, reaction time of 45 min.

The potential of removing Bomaplex Red CR-L dye from electro coagulation sludge has been investigated for different Bomaplex Red CR-L concentrations with varying adsorbent amount, temperature, pH and stirrer speed. Removal of Bomaplex Red CR-L is found to be high at lower pH values. The maximum adsorption of the dye has been achieved in aqueous solutions using 0.5g of calcinated sludge from electro coagulation at a pH of 2.0 within 20min. The Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models were tested and it was found that the Langmuir equation was fitted better than the Freundlich equation. Maximum adsorption capacity (q m) was calculated as 192.31mg g -1 at 333K. In addition, the adsorption data obtained at various temperatures were successfully applied to pseudo first-order, pseudo second-order and intraparticle diffusion models. The rates of adsorption were found to conform to pseudo second-order kinetics with good correlation (R 2≥0.9997). This study showed that calcinated the sludge from electrocoagulation has a highly adsorbent capacity.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2010Scopus SJRQ1Thermodynamics and kinetic studies of biosorption of a basic dye from aqueous solution using green algae Ulothrix sp.
Doǧar, Çetin; Gürses, Ahmet; Açikyildiz, Metin; Özkan, Esra
This study addresses removal of a basic dye, methylene blue, from aqueous solutions by using dried Ulothrix sp. biomass as biosorbent. The effects of the initial dye concentration, contact time, temperature, solution equilibrium pH, biosorbent dosage, and mixing rate on biosorption of the dye have been investigated. It was found that 30 min is sufficient in order to reach adsorption equilibrium. The amount of methylene blue adsorbed onto Ulothrix sp. increased with increasing equilibrium pH and mixing rate, in contrary, it decreased with increasing temperature and sorbent dosage. The process followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The isosteric enthalpy and entropy values were calculated as -11.8 kJ/mol and 37.5 J/(mol K), respectively. In addition, the results suggest that the physical interactions between sorbent particles and sorbate ions play an important role for the adsorption of methylene blue onto the biosorbent.
