DETERMINATION OF ANTIOXIDANT, ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITIES, PHENOLIC COMPOUNDS OF WILD ROSA L. SPECIES BAYBURT, TURKEY

Gidik, Betul; Akar, Zeynep; Can, Zehra; Sefali, Abdurrahman; Erturk, Omer

Five different rosehip (Rosa L.) species including, Rosa canina, Rosa iberica Stev, Rosa villosa, Rosa beggeriana Schrenk and same kind of but different location Rosa spinosissima grown in Bayburt from Turkey are studied. The wild species of Rosa L. were collected from Rocks and Steps, Field and garden borders. Morphological parameters were measured as fruit and seed weights and fruit and seed size. Ten fruits were chosen randomly for the measurement and take the average of them to determine the weights and size. In our study was determined antioxidant activity, antimicrobial activity and phenolic compounds. As antioxidant activity; total phenolic total flavonoid, condense tannin contents, CUPRAC, FRAP, ABTS. Nineteen standard of phenolic compositions of fruits and seeds were determined. Antioxidant, antimicrobial activities of the extracts were found high levels in rose hip species fruit than seed. Catechin, rutin protocatequic acid and CAPE were principal for all rose hip species fruit but, was not deteceted CAPE Kop Mountain, Yukari Kop Village Rosa spinosissima species. This suggests that the difference in location affects the phenolic content. Pearson Correlation analyze has done with the morphological parameters, GPS data, antioxidant activity and phenolic compounds by using the SPSS software programme version 25.0.

Fruit and seed macro- and micromorphologies of the genus Matthiola (Brassicaceae) in turkey and their taxonomic value

Kaya, Ayla; Ünal, Murat; Sefali, Abdurrahman; Martin, Esra

Macro- and micromorphological features of fruit and seeds belonging to 12 taxa genera of Matthiola W.T.Aiton were studied via stereomicroscope and scanning electron microscope. In macromorphological studies, the following variables were investigated: The shape, size, and color of fruit and seeds; the length of fruiting pedicel; the structure of the median vein; stigma (horns); and trichome properties and density in fruit. In micromorphological studies, the presence or absence of seed wings, seed coat pattern in disc and wing, and epidermal cell shape in disc and wing were determined. According to our findings, all characters of fruit and seeds are extremely variable and can be used as criteria to distinguish species of the genus.

A study of wild plant species of brassicaceae family in bayburt region of Turkey

Gidik, Betül; Gül, Volkan; Sefali, Abdurrahman

The Brassicaceae (Cruciferae) is one of the most important groups and it has 338 genera and 3709 species around the worldwide. Plant samples of the Brassicaceae family were collected and photographed during the vegetation period of 2017. The plant samples and the photos were taken from their natural habitat between 23 April and 11 August 2017. The locations were determined based on differences in geographical features with variable ecological conditions. 38 genera and 80 species and subspecies were identified from different locations of the study area. Heldreichia bupleurifolia Boiss. subsp. rotundifolia, Aethionema caespitosum, Thlaspi lilacinum, Tchihatchewia isatidea, Bornmuellera cappadocica, Aurinia rupestris subsp. cyclocarpa, Alyssum stylare, Alyssum pseudomouradicum, Alyssum peltarioides Boiss. subsp. peltarioides are endemic taxa for Bayburt.

Karyotype analyses of the genus Matthiola (Brassicaceae) in Turkey

Martin, Esra; Ünal, Murat; Doǧan, Bekir; Altinordu, Fahim; Sefali, Abdurrahman; Kaya, Ayla

In the present paper, karyotype analyses are reported for 12 taxa of Matthiola from Turkey. Matthiola trojana Dirmenci, Satil & Tümen, M. odoratissima (Pall.) R.Br., M. anchonifolia Hub.-Mor., M. montana Boiss., M. fruticulosa (L.) Maire ssp. fruticulosa and M. ovatifolia (Boiss.) Boiss. counted 2n=12 chromosomes, and M. incana (L.) R.Br., M. longipetala (Vent.) DC. ssp. bicornis (Sibth. et Smith) P. W. Ball, M. longipetala (Vent.) DC. ssp. longipetala, M. longipetala (Vent.) DC. ssp. pumilio (Sibth. & Smith) P. W. Ball, M. sinuata (L.) R.Br., and M. tricuspidata (L.) R.Br. showed 2n=14 chromosomes. The idiograms and karyomorphometric data obtained by using Image Analysis System (Bs200Pro). The chromosome number of M. montana was determined for the first time. Also, karyotype asymmetry index such as MCA, CVCL and CVCL were measured for the reconstruction of karyological relationships.

Study of phylogenetic relationship of Turkish species of Matthiola (Brassicaceae) based on ISSR amplification

Doğan, Bekir; Çelik, Mustafa; Ünal, Murat; Sefali, Abdurrahman; Martin, Esra; Kaya, Ayla

Matthiola W.T.Aiton is a taxonomically complex genus in which there are many problems, mostly with Matthiola longipetala and M. odoratissima. Matthiola species native to Turkey were collected from various locations in Anatolia, and their DNA was isolated. Revision studies performed on the basis of molecular data obtained from studies conducted in recent years have made the phylogenetic relationships and systematic positions of the taxa more apparent and reliable. Consequently, the remaining taxonomic problems among the species have been resolved through the use of DNA-based molecular analysis methods, which, unlike phenotype studies, are not affected by environmental factors. The inter-simple sequence repeat (ISSR) fingerprinting method was used in the study because its properties were considered to be more reliable and consistent than those of the randomly amplified polymorphic DNA method. DNA fragments were amplified through the use of ISSR primers. The phylogenetic relationships among the taxa were represe ted on a dendrogram constructed through means of NTSYSpc 2.02 software. The infrageneric and intergeneric phylogenetic relationships between Matthiola and other related genera were also characterized. It was determined that the taxa Matthiola odoratissima and M. ovatifolia are separate but closely related. Moreover, it was observed that the Matthiola longipetala complex forms a separate group within the genera. Clearly, the genera Matthiola, Sterigmostemum, Strigosella, Malcolmia, and Chorispora are phylogenetically differentiated on the dendrogram.
