    Resul Akkaya

EFFECTS OF MOLAR RATIO, FREQUENCY, WATER CONTENT AND TEMPERATURE ON DIELECTRIC PROPERTIES OF DEEP EUTECTIC SOLVENTS

    Kutlu, N.; Yilmaz, M.S.; Erdem, G.M.; Sakiyan, O.; Isci, A.

The aim of the study is to determine the effect of process parameters on dielectric propertiesof deep eutectic solvents (DESs), which have beenwidely used in recent years. In this study, DESs wereprepared using choline-chloride as the hydrogenbondacceptor and glycerol, formic acid and aceticacid as the hydrogen-bond donor. The effect of differentprocess parameters such as molar ratio (1:2, 1:3and 1:4), water content (15%, 30% and 45%), temperature(25, 50 and 75 °C) and frequency on dielectricproperties of the DESs were examined. The highestdielectric constant values were found to be38.13±0.54, 44.96±0.07 and 46.74±0.02 for glycerol, formic acid and acetic acid, respectively for the processconditions of 25 °C temperature, 45% water contentand 1:4 molar ratio (at 2450 MHz). Moreover, forall DESs, it was found that a decrease in water contentresulted in a decrease in both dielectric constant andloss factor values. This can be explained by the absenceof free water molecules which are responsiblefrom dipole rotation mechanism. In light of the results,if DES will be used in microwave processes, formicor acetic acid containing DESs might give moresuccessful results compared to the ones with glycerol

Temperature dependent current- and capacitance-voltage characteristics of W/n-Si structures with two-dimensional WS2 and three-dimensional WO3 interfaces deposited by RF sputtering technique

    Baltakesmez, A.; Tekmen, S.; Güzeldir, B.

In this study, tungsten disulfide (WS2) and tungsten trioxide (WO3) thin films are deposited on n-Si by RF sputtering technique. The optical, morphological and structural characteristics of these films are investigated. The XRD patterns showed that highly crystallinity have been obtained with dominant characteristic diffraction peaks of the WS2 and WO3. The SEM images show that these films are nearly uniform and covered all surface of substrates. Furthermore, the WS2 film has two-dimensional (2D) vertical layers while the WO3 has three-dimensional (3D) structure. From the XPS spectra, it revealed that the peaks confirmed the formation of WS2 and WO3 phases. The Raman spectra presented that different vibrational modes and phases are characteristics of the WS2 and WO3 thin films. Electrical properties of W/n-Si metal-semiconductor (MS) and W/WS2/n-Si and W/WO3/n-Si metal-interfacial layer-semiconductor (MIS) diodes are investigated using current-voltage (I-V) and capacitance-voltage (C-V) characteristics at various temperatures. It was found that I-V and C-V characteristics are strongly dependent on temperature and the interfacial WS2 and WO3 layers are significant roles for the electrical properties of W/WS2/n-Si and W/WO3/n-Si devices.

Innovative trend analysis of total annual rainfall and temperature variability case study: Yesilirmak region, Turkey

    Serencam, Uğur

It is well known that any kind of ordinary hydrometeorological parameter trend may have increasing or decreasing tendency systematically. Various methodologies are developed for possible trend identification such as the well-known Mann-Kendall test and recently Şen innovative trend analysis (ITA) approaches. The former has a set of assumptions, whereas the latter is almost without any restrictive assumption. The main purpose of this paper is to present precipitation and temperature trend behaviors by applying ITA in Yesilirmak drainage basin. Selected observation stations are mainly located at the Black Sea confluence region of Yesilirmak while few others at the middle and upper drainage basins. ITA provided visual inspection with quantitative trend slopes distinctively for low, medium, and high sub-levels with physical interpretations. Based on categorization, precipitation records have significant decreasing trends in low, medium, and high levels as an average − 3.4%, − 3.8%, and − 2.4%, respectively. In contrary to precipitation trend, and consistent to global expectation in climate change, temperature records have significantly strong increasing tendency along the basin. In sub-level of temperature, this strong trend tendencies are detected + 4.6%, + 4.8%, and + 7.2% from low to high ranges, respectively.

Thermal regulation impact of green walls: An experimental and numerical investigation

    Cuce, Erdem

Green walls can be basically defined as climbing plants grown either directly against, or on support structures integrated to external building walls. Similar to other types of green infrastructure, they are in the centre of interest owing to their remarkable benefits such as reducing internal building temperatures, mitigating building energy consumption and facilitating urban adaptation to a warming climate. In this research, thermal regulation feature of green wall systems is experimentally and numerically investigated through a case study conducted in the Jubilee Campus of University of Nottingham. Internal wall temperatures are measured time-dependently for different cases and the results are compared with those of ordinary walls for a reliable and realistic approach. Different sky conditions are also considered within the scope of this research as an independent variable. Experimental results are verified by numerical models carried out in Ecotect. The results reveal that an average of 2.5 °C reduction in internal wall temperature can be achieved via green walls with about 10 cm thick climbing vegetation of Hedera helix, which is very promising.
