TOURIST DECISION-MAKING WHEN SELECTING A DESTINATION: AN ANALYTICAL HIERARCHY PROCESS ANALYSIS OF CONSUMPTION VALUES

Turk, Bahar; Yildiz, Tugba; Dursun, Mehmet Tahir

Within the context of tourism-related activities, numerous factors may influence a traveller's choice of destinations. Therefore, it is crucial to understand which factors will mostly influence destination selection. It is common knowledge that in a destination selection process, people are likely to visit sites they believe are worthwhile. The Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) was used in the study, and the data were collected from twelve experts, including six academicians of tourism and destination marketing, and six tour guides with more than ten years of experience in the sector. The research aims to determine the priority order of consumption values in determining the preferences of tourists for the destinations they have selected. The results show that epistemic value was the most important factor in determining a tourist's choice of destination. Moreover, it was found that the following dimensions, namely functional value, i.e., worth the money, emotional value, i.e., feel secure, social value, i.e., meet friendly and hospitable people, epistemic value, i.e., providing novelty experiences, and conditional value, i.e., personal safety have also been given priority. By identifying the priorities of a tourist in the destination selection process, it is envisaged that tourism businesses operating in tourist destinations will be able to provide better value-added activities, such as in food and beverage, lodging, entertainment, and travel agencies. In providing theoretical and empirical information for those involved in the sector, a more efficient process is thus ensured. With the help of this knowledge of what is expected of tourists as consumers, it will be easier to develop comprehensive strategies and solutions.

Measuring the Effectiveness of Post-Earthquake Social Policies Using the Intuitionistic Fuzzy SIWEC Method: The Case of the February 6 Kahramanmaraş Earthquakes; [Sezgisel Bulanık SIWEC Yöntemi Kullanılarak Deprem Sonrası Sosyal Politikaların Etkinliğinin Ölçülmesi: 6 Şubat Kahramanmaraş Depremleri Örneği]

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of social policies implemented in the aftermath of the February 6, 2023, Kahramanmaraş earthquakes. The research employed the Intuitionistic Fuzzy SIWEC technique, a multi-criteria decision making method. Eight experts with substantial field experience evaluated seven main criteria and forty-four sub-criteria. The findings indicate that social policies—particularly in the "food and basic needs" category (covering clean drinking water, hygiene products, the food supply chain, food safety, and the provision of special nutritional needs) and, more broadly, policies within the "health and education services" category—have been implemented successfully. In contrast, under the "employment and social security" category, efforts to combat informality, provide vocational training, grant tax exemptions, and support SMEs were deemed inadequate. Similarly, within the "basic infrastructure and public services" category, notable deficiencies were identified in urban planning and construction, in ensuring transparency and fairness in public social policies, and in restoring telecommunication and internet infrastructure. In addition policies targeting vulnerable groups and psychosocial support services were found to be relatively neglected.

Identification of groundwater potential zones using gis and multi-criteria decision-making techniques: A case study upper coruh river basin (ne Turkey)

    Yıldırım, Ümit

In this study, geographic information system (GIS)-based, analytic hierarchy process (AHP) techniques were used to identify groundwater potential zones to provide insight to decisionmakers and local authorities for present and future planning. Ten different geo-environmental factors, such as slope, topographic wetness index, geomorphology, drainage density, lithology, lineament density, rainfall, soil type, soil thickness, and land-use classes were selected as the decision criteria, and related GIS tools were used for creating, analysing and standardising the layers. The final groundwater potential zones map was delineated, using the weighted linear combination (WLC) aggregation method. The map was spatially classified into very high potential, high potential, moderate potential, low potential, and very low potential. The results showed that 21.5% of the basin area is characterised by high to very high groundwater potential. In comparison, the very low to low groundwater potential occupies 57.15%, and the moderate groundwater potential covers 21.4% of the basin area. Finally, the GWPZs map was investigated to validate the model, using discharges and depth to groundwater data related to 22 wells scattered over the basin. The validation results showed that GWPZs classes strongly overlap with the well discharges and groundwater depth located in the given area.

Some approaches to multi criteria decision making based on exponential operations of simplified neutrosophic numbers

    Şahin, Rdvan; Liu, Peide

Simplified neutrosophic set (SNS) is a powerful tool that attracts the attention of many scholars in dealing with uncertainty and vagueness. A SNS is based on a combination of simplified neutrosophic numbers (SNNs), whose its basic components are characterized by a truth-membership degree, an indeterminacy-membership degree and a falsity-membership degree of an object in evaluation data. Aggregation operators used to synthesize simplified neutrosophic information is commonly not very effective in case where the criteria weights provided by decision makers are in form of SNNs rather than exact real numbers. In this paper, we propose two new operational laws in which the bases are positive real numbers and interval numbers, respectively and the exponents are SNNs, and discuss some of their desired properties. Then we apply them to derive two weighted exponential aggregation operators, such as the simplified neutrosophic weighted exponential aggregation (SNWEA) operator and dual simplified neutrosophic weighted exponential aggregation (DSNWEA) operator. Additionally, two approaches for multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) problems under the neutrosophic weight data are explored by applying these aggregation operators. At the end of the study, a convenient example is provided to demonstrate the availability and effectiveness of the proposed methods.
