Influence of Hawthorn (Crataegus tanacetifolia) Fruit Vinegar Supplementation on Meat Quality and Gut MicrobiotainHeat-StressedBroilers; [Alıç (Crataegus tanacetifolia) Meyve Sirkesi Takviyesinin Isı Stresi Altındaki Etlik Piliçlerde Et Kalitesi ve Bağırsak Mikrobiyotası Üzerindeki Etkisi]

This study investigated the influence of the consumption of hawthorn (Crataegus tanacetifolia) fruit vinegar (HFV), a fermented product, on meat quality and gut microbiota in broiler chickens under cyclic heat stress (HS). A total of 300 one-day-old male Ross 308 chicks were divided into six groups with five replicates of ten birds, following a 2×3 factorial design with two temperatures (24 and 35°C) and three HFV supplementing levels (0, 2, and 4 mL/L) after one-week acclimation. Broilers in the thermoneutral groups were kept at 24°C, while HS groups experienced 35°C for 8 hours daily from day 21. Feed and water were provided ad libitum under a 24-hour lighting program. HS increased breast pH, reduced b* color value, raised ΣSFA and ΣMUFA levels, and lowered ΣUFA and ΣPUFA ratios. Supplementing 4 mL/L HFV increased breast L* color value and ΣSFA level while reducing ΣUFA ratio. The 2 mL/L HFV dose decreased ΣMUFA and increased ΣPUFA levels. Overall, HFV supplementation improved meat quality and beneficially altered fatty acid composition in heat-stressed broiler breasts. These results suggest that HFV supplementation may be a practical natural additive for broilers under cyclic heat stress and provide new evidence regarding its combined effects on meat quality and intestinal microbiota. Response of probiotics and yeast added in different doses to rations of anatolian merino lambs on fattening performance, meat quality, duodenum and rumen histology[1]; [Z anadolu merinos kuzularının rasyonlarına farklı dozlarda ilave edilen probiyotiklerin ve mayanın besi performansı, et kalitesi, rumen ve duodenum üzerine yanıtı]

This study investigated the effects of dietary probiotics (Lactobacillus reuteri E81 [LRE], Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG [LRG]), yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae S81 [SCS]), and their combined supplementation on fattening performance (BW, DWG, FI, and FCR), meat quality, and rumen and duodenum histology in lambs. The study material comprised ninety 2.5-month-old Anatolian Merino lambs, and the trial was conducted for 70 days. Nine trial groups, each composed of 10 animals, were established. This study demonstrated that, when compared to the control group, the best fattening performance was achieved in the lambs that received 600 ppm of dietary LRE. Neither visceral organ weights nor rumen and duodenum histology was affected in the groups that received the tested feed supplements. Of the meat colour parameters investigated, the L* value was observed to have increased in the groups that were given feed supplements, excluding Groups LRE-600 and SCS-300. It was determined that the probiotic supplements had no effect on the a* and b* colour parameters, but affected the meat pH value. In conclusion, the assessment of the effects of different doses of dietary probiotics, yeast, and probiotic-yeast combinations on performance parameters, visceral organ weights, and meat quality in Anatolian Merino lambs showed that the best results were achieved in the group that received 600 ppm of LRE alone.

This study investigated the effects of the addition of Lactobacillus reuteri E81 (LRE) into rations of chukar partridges (Alectoris chukar) fed under heat stress (HS) conditions on fattening performance and meat quality. This study included 256 chukar partridges aged 1 day. The study comprised an adaptation period of 7 days and a fattening period of 35 days and included 8 different groups with 32 animals in each group. Each group was further divided into four subgroups with eight animals in each subgroup. At the end of the study, the best results in terms of fattening performance in the non-HS groups were obtained in the LRE 600 ppm group and in the HS groups, SLRE 200 ppm had the best effect on average live weight and average live weight increase, whereas SLRE 400 ppm had the best effect on FCR (p<0.05). The analysis of the samples collected from chukar partridges on day 21 showed that, there was no effect on the colour parameters and Thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) level in the LRE in the HS and non-HS groups, whereas the meat pH level decreased in the SLRE 400 ppm group (p<0.05). The analysis of the samples collected on day 42 showed that there was no effect on colour parameters in the HS and non-HS groups. TBARS level decreased at the dose of LRE 200 ppm in the non-HS group, and the meat pH level decreased in both HS and non-HS groups (p<0.05).

Influence of lactobacillus reuteri on internal organ weight, performance and meat quality of Japanese quail (Coturnixcoturnix japonica) under heat stress; [Einfluss von lactobacillus reuteri auf das gewicht der inneren organe, die leistung und die fleischqualität Japanischer Wachteln (Coturnix coturnix japonica) unter Hitzestress]

    Tekce, E.; Bayraktar, B.; Aksakal, V.; Dertli, E.; Kamiloğlu, A.; Çinar Topçu, K.; Kaya, H.; Takma, C.; Yasulergezer, N.

In the present study, the effects of Lactobacillus reuteri E81 (LRE) supplemented at different doses (200, 400 and 600 mg/kg) into the diets on performance, meat quality and internal organ weights of Japanese quail (Coturnixcoturnix japonica) were investigated under heat stress (HS) conditions (37°C). For the experiments, 448 one-day old quails were used. Seven days of training (physical exercise) and a 35-day fattening period were applied. On day 7 of the trial, 8 groups [4 under control temperature of 25°C (CT): control (C), LRE-200, LRE-400 and LRE-600 and 4 under HS: control (HSC), SLRE-200, SLRE-400 and SLRE-600] were formed, each group consisting of four replicates with 14 quail each. At the end of this study, the CT group fed 400 mg/kg LRE showed the best performance results, whereas no effect was found for groups under HS in comparison to the control group (HSC). Samples taken on the 21st and 42nd day revealed that addition of probiotics in the CT and HS groups induced no effect on weight of the internal organs (p > 0.05). Analysis of meat quality on the 21st day showed that LRE caused an increase in pH in both the HS and CT groups. Further, 400-mg/kg LRE supplementation induced an increase in thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) in the group under HS. In the CT groups on day 42 no effect of LRE was found on colour parameters or on the TBARS value, except for a decrease in the pH value in the LRE supplemented groups compared with the control. In HS groups a decrease in the L* value and an increase in the TBARS value was found compared to CT groups (p < 0.05), but there was no effect on other colour parameters or pH value. In conclusion, in the present study supplementation of different doses of LRE E81 to quail diets had no effect on performance, internal organ weight or meat quality under HS.
