THE EFFECT OF DIFFERENT DOSES OF LIQUID VERMICOMPOST APPLICATION ON YIELD AND YIELD COMPONENTS OF SOME POTATO (SOLANUM TUBEROSUM L.) VARIETIES

    Gul, Volkan; Gidik, Betul

This is one of the early studies to produce healthy, yielding, and high-quality tubers from the potatoes grown in Bayburt, an organic agriculture basin, using liquid vermicompost that can supplement organic fertilizers. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of liquid vermicompost applications (0, 3, 6, 9, and 12 L ha-1), which can supplement the stable manure used as bottom fertilizer, on yield and yield components of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) varieties (Agria and Lady Olympia). The research was designed in random blocks with three replications. As a result of the study, it was found that the tuber yield was within the range of 20.24-30.40 tons’ ha-1, the protein ratio was within the range of 1.53-2.51%, and the starch ratio was within the range of 11.98%-15.99%. The liquid vermicompost doses applied to the potato varieties created significant differences in all three parameters. Due to the positive effect of the Agria (3.40 tons/da) variety on the yield and vegetative development of potatoes, It was concluded that 9 L liquid vermicompost application per decare would be beneficial.

Yield, yield components and fatty acid composition of Artemisia dracunculus L. local breeds under organic cultivation conditions

    Göktas, Ozlem; Gidik, Betul

The importance of medicinal and aromatic plants in people's lives is growing due to their various uses and diverse cultivation conditions. This study aimed to determine the yield and yield components and quality features (oil ratio and fatty acid composition according to GC-MS) of six different tarragon (Artemisia dracunculus L.) local breeds grown organically in Bayburt province, Turkey. For this purpose, the data obtained by growing the plants in the experimental area during the two crop years, 2018 and 2019, were evaluated. As for the yield values, the highest values for green herb yield (275.41 kg ha-1), drug herb yield (99.89 kg ha-1), drug-herb percentage (44.00%), green leaf yield (208.97 kg ha-1), green leaf percentage (75.09%) and drog leaf yield (72.48 kg ha-1) were found in the local breed from Bayburt Central location. It was found that the oil percentages, evaluated to determine the quality traits, ranged from 5.39% to 7.02%. The most important fatty acid was alpha-linolenic acid (9.49%-23.1%), followed by linoleic acid (4.18%-13.89%) and palmitic acid (4.05-13.89%). As far as we know, this is the first study investigating tarragon's total oil content and fatty acid composition. The results show that the total oil content of this plant, which has remarkable pharmacological effects, is present in useful quantities compared to the leafy green and does not contain fatty acids that prevent its consumption as food. Therefore, this plant is expected to be used directly in various food products.

EVALUATION OF YIELD AND QUALITY CHARACTERISTICS OF OIL SUNFLOWER (Helianthus annuus L.) VARIETIES CULTIVATED IN SEMI-ARID IRRIGATED CONDITIONS IN THE NORTHEAST OF TURKEY

Gul, Volkan; Gidik, Betul; Sefaoglu, Firat

Sunflower, an oil plant grown in many parts of the world, is capable of growing in many different climatic conditions. It is of great importance to carry out studies on the adaptation of new varieties and to determine the varieties suitable to the ecology of the region in areas where sunflower cultivation is intense. This study was carried out to determine yield and quality characteristics of some sunflower cultivars (SANBROMR, BOSFORA, SYBARBATI, ROSETTA, LG5485, P64LL62, SYGIBRALTAR, P64LC108 P64LE119, P64LP130, P63LE113, 11TR077, ESNIEGARA, ADELYA, and DERAY) under Bayburt providence conditions of Turkey in 2020-2021. It has been determined that there are significant differences between the cultivars for the traits examined. The highest average seed yield (4194.2 kg ha-1) and average linoleic acid content (65.09%) were found for BOSFORA. The highest average oil content ESNIEGARA (48.78%) and average oil yield respectively were obtained from ESNIEGARA (186.02 kg ha-1) and BOSFORA (182.93 kg ha-1) varieties and the highest average oleic acid content was obtained from 11TR077 variety (41.78%). The results of this study emphasized the importance of varieties in sunflower growing. BOSFORA and ESNIEGARA varieties had high yield and quality characteristics in the ecologies of a semi-arid climate.

EFFECTS OF VERMICOMPOST FERTILIZER ON THE YIELD AND OIL QUALITY IN SUNFLOWER (Helianthus annuus L.) VARIETIES

Gul, Volkan; Gidik, Betul; Girgel, Umit

This study was carried out in 2018 on an experimental field of Bayburt University in order to demonstrate the effect of different doses of vermicompost on the yield and oil quality in oilseed sunflower varieties. The experiments were carried out in randomized full-block design with three replicates. In the experiments, it was found that administering 100 kg da(-1) of vermicompost to the sunflowers yielded the best results in terms of grain yield (130.81 kg da(-1)), fat ratio (48.21%). and fatty acids parameters (saturated fatty acid ratio 15.30%. unsaturated fatty acid ratio 84.71%). In conclusion, we are of the opinion that, although there is an insufficient number of studies on oil crops. with the help of similar future studies in which vermicompost and other organic fertilizers are compounded, a humanand environment-friendly organic production can be realized by increasing the yield as well as the quality.

DETERMINATION OF ANTIOXIDANT, ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITIES, PHENOLIC COMPOUNDS OF WILD ROSA L. SPECIES BAYBURT, TURKEY

Gidik, Betul; Akar, Zeynep; Can, Zehra; Sefali, Abdurrahman; Erturk, Omer

Five different rosehip (Rosa L.) species including, Rosa canina, Rosa iberica Stev, Rosa villosa, Rosa beggeriana Schrenk and same kind of but different location Rosa spinosissima grown in Bayburt from Turkey are studied. The wild species of Rosa L. were collected from Rocks and Steps, Field and garden borders. Morphological parameters were measured as fruit and seed weights and fruit and seed size. Ten fruits were chosen randomly for the measurement and take the average of them to determine the weights and size. In our study was determined antioxidant activity, antimicrobial activity and phenolic compounds. As antioxidant activity; total phenolic total flavonoid, condense tannin contents, CUPRAC, FRAP, ABTS. Nineteen standard of phenolic compositions of fruits and seeds were determined. Antioxidant, antimicrobial activities of the extracts were found high levels in rose hip species fruit than seed. Catechin, rutin protocatequic acid and CAPE were principal for all rose hip species fruit but, was not deteceted CAPE Kop Mountain, Yukari Kop Village Rosa spinosissima species. This suggests that the difference in location affects the phenolic content. Pearson Correlation analyze has done with the morphological parameters, GPS data, antioxidant activity and phenolic compounds by using the SPSS software programme version 25.0.
