Pollen morphology of Eremogone (Caryophyllaceae) in Türkiye

Tokuşoğlu, Kader Varlik; Armağan, Meti̇N; Bülbül, Ali̇ Savaş

The palynological characters of 17 taxa belonging to genus Eremogone Fenzl (Caryophyllaceae) from Türkiye were examined using light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Eremogone pollen in Türkiye is found to have an average size of 31.31 μm (26.62‒36.65 μm), pore sizes ranging from 6.52 to 9.24 μm, inter-pore distances ranging from 9.07 to 12.57 μm, pore numbers varying from 5 to 14 and 5‒30 nanoechini distributed in an area of 10 × 10 µm. The ornamentation was identified as nanoperforate, nanoechinate, or nanofaveolate surface elements in various combinations. Clustering analysis and Principal Component Analyses do not show clear groups, although more similar taxa were brought together through the analysis of pollen micromorphological data rather, the nanoechinate base width, nanoechinate length, and pore diameter length are the most valuable variables for separating the examined taxa.

Androsace artvinensis sp. nov. (Primulaceae): A new species from northeastern Anatolia, Turkey

    Sefali, Abdurrahman; Yapar, Yakup

Androsace artvinensis (Primulaceae) from Artvin province (northeastern Anatolia) has been described as a new species to science. The new species is morphologically similar to A. armeniaca var. macrantha but differs from it by several morphological characters, such as bracts shape, calyx (calyx length and lobes), corolla (corolla length, lobes, and indumentum), hairs, leaves, pollen features, and habitat preference. Diagnostic morphological characteristics, a full description, and a distribution map are provided.

Androsace azizsancarii sp. nov. (Primulaceae): a new species from northeastern Anatolia, Turkey

    Sefali, Abdurrahman

Androsace azizsancarii (Primulaceae) is described and illustrated as a new species from Bayburt Province in northeastern Anatolia, Turkey. Diagnostic morphological characteristics, a full description and a distribution map are provided. The new species is morphologically closest to Androsace albana, A. multiscapa and A. villosa, but it is easily distinguished from these species by indumentum, leaf, flower and seed characters.

Bellevalia bayburtensis (Asparagaceae): a new species from northeastern Anatolia, Turkey

    Yildirim, Hasan; Sefali, Abdurrahman

Bellevalia bayburtensis (Asparagaceae) is described and illustrated as a new species from Bayburt Province in northeastern Anatolia, Turkey. Diagnostic morphological characters, a full description, detailed illustrations, and a distribution map are provided. It is morphologically similar to B. rixii and B. paradoxa, but clearly differs from these species by the leaf shape, the bud and flower colour.

Fruit and seed macro- and micromorphologies of the genus Matthiola (Brassicaceae) in turkey and their taxonomic value

Kaya, Ayla; Ünal, Murat; Sefali, Abdurrahman; Martin, Esra

Macro- and micromorphological features of fruit and seeds belonging to 12 taxa genera of Matthiola W.T.Aiton were studied via stereomicroscope and scanning electron microscope. In macromorphological studies, the following variables were investigated: The shape, size, and color of fruit and seeds; the length of fruiting pedicel; the structure of the median vein; stigma (horns); and trichome properties and density in fruit. In micromorphological studies, the presence or absence of seed wings, seed coat pattern in disc and wing, and epidermal cell shape in disc and wing were determined. According to our findings, all characters of fruit and seeds are extremely variable and can be used as criteria to distinguish species of the genus.
