Yildiz, Aysun Yurdunuseven; Öztekin, Sebahat; Anaya, Katya
The stability of edible oils significantly influences their quality, safety, and shelf life. While synthetic antioxidants have traditionally been used, the growing consumer interest in food safety and sustainability has shifted focus towards natural alternatives. Plant-derived antioxidants offer a promising solution, enhancing oxidative stability while meeting clean-label demands. This review examines recent advancements in using plant-derived antioxidants, such as extracts, essential oils, and agro-industrial by-products, to inhibit lipid peroxidation and improve edible oils' oxidative and thermal stability. Natural antioxidants from peels, seeds, spices, fruits, and vegetables effectively reduce hydrolysis, polymerization, and secondary oxidation products. Despite their potential, challenges remain, including impacts on sensory attributes, regulatory compliance, and the need for standardized extraction and application protocols. Addressing these limitations can advance sustainable food preservation and encourage the integration of natural antioxidants in the food industry, contributing to a more sustainable economy and shelf life.

Şentürk, Şükrü; Fardad, Fraidoon; Ekincioğlu, Yavuz
The lowest energy structures along with the low lying isomer, stabilities, electronic properties, optical properties and nonlinear optical responses of KnCl (n = 2-7) clusters were studied within the density functional theory. The second order energy difference, dissociation energy and GH-L (HOMO-LUMO gap) point out that KnCl (n = 3, 5, 7) clusters are more stable. The calculated adiabatic ionization energies (AIE) for the KnCl (n = 2-6) clusters are in agreement with the measured ionization energies. The optical properties, namely optical electronegativity and refractive index, depends on the GH-L energy values. The K atom capped planar rhombus geometry of the K4Cl causes the noticeable vibrational frequency shift compared to the rest of IR spectra of the clusters. The first static hyperpolarizability (β o) values are in the range of 2.33 × 103-2.87 × 104 au and the second static hyperpolarizability varies between 5.74 × 106 au and 38.9 × 106 au for the cluster. The nonlinear optical response is due to the superalkali nature of KnCl (n = 2-7) clusters. From computed β vec values, the hyperpolarizability has projection on the dipole moment vector for the superalkalis except the K2Cl and K5Cl. The absorption spectra point out that KnCl (n = 6-7) clusters can be suitable as a NLO material since they have transparency in the deep UV region (λ< 300 nm).

The geometrical structures, stabilities, electronic properties and nonlinear optical response of the halogen doped bimetallic LinClK (n = 1–6) clusters were studied within the density functional theory. Based on the dissociation energy, second order energy difference and GH-L (HOMO-LUMO gap), the LinClK (n = 2, 4, 6) clusters are more stable. According to their ionization energies, the clusters can be classified as a superalkali. From the NBO analysis, the clusters are excess electron systems. The obtained first static hyperpolarizability (o) values are in the range of 1.56 × 104 − 4.33 × 104 au while the second static hyperpolarizability vary within 2.47 × 106 au to 13.9 × 106 au for the LinClK (n = 1–6) superalkalis that are slightly higher than the nonlinear optical response of halogen doped monometallic clusters. More importantly, the Li5ClK is transparent in the deep UV region ( < 300 nm) among the superalkalis indicating that the Li5ClK superalkali can be a candidate structure as new member of NLO materials.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2020Scopus SJRQ3Gge biplot analysis in wild (Pisum sativum l. subsp. elatius and subsp. sativum) and cultivated pea (pisum sativum l.) genotypes in northern and southern turkey
Girgel, U.; Cokkizgin, A.
This research was carried out in the multiple-environment trials (MET) which one is in Bayburt (40°24'05.7"N 40°08'31.3"E) where the Black Sea geographical region located in the north of Turkey and in the Kahramanmaras (37°35'24.8"N 36°48'49.4"E) where the Mediterranean geographical region located in the south of Turkey in 2016 and 2017 years. In this investigation, 6 registered pea cultivars (Bolero, Jof, Karina, Nihal, Reyna and Utrillo) and 2 wild pea genotypes (Pisum sativum L. subsp. elatius and P. sativum L. subsp. sativum) were used. The variance analysis showed a significant difference among Location (L), genotypes (G), genotypes×locations interaction (GL), genotypes×year interaction (GY), year×location interaction (YL) (all significant at P<0.01 level) and genotype×location×year interaction (GLY) (significant at P<0.05 level) interaction in terms of seed yield. Main effect genotypes (G) is explained 24.42% of total variation. This is followed by 18.78% (L), 17.87% (YL) 7.04% (GL), 4.91% (GY), 2.71% (GLY) and 1.12% (Y), respectively. Graphs were drawn according to the results of GGE biplot analysis and yield data of genotypes were evaluated according to these graphs. In accordance with GGE biplot analysis the seed yield first principal component explained 82.81% of the total variation and second principal component explained 17.19% of the total variation.

- MakaleYalnız künye2018Scopus SJRQ1A new method for determination of dynamic stability of self-consolidating concrete: 3-Compartment sieve test
Gökçe, H. Süleyman; Andiç-Çakır, Özge
There are many standard test methods and applications to determine or estimate the workability of fresh concrete mixtures, most of them are focused on highly flowable concrete mixtures. Due to its high flowability, self-consolidating concrete (SCC) is much more vulnerable to segregation compared to conventional concrete mixtures. Thus, researchers have been working on adopting dynamic and static test methods for determination and improvement of segregation stability of those mixtures. In this study, the different segregation test methods presented in the literature were assessed and a novel method, i.e. 3-compartment sieve test, was introduced. The dynamic stability of fresh self-consolidating concrete mixtures was evaluated by the suggested test method after slump-flow and J-Ring tests. In conclusion, the developed new method is recommended for determination of segregation in SCC due to satisfactory concurrency of results with those of visual stability index test (0.67 ≤ R2 ≤ 0.90) and sieve segregation resistance test (0.83 ≤ R2 ≤ 0.90), respectively.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2015Scopus SJRQ1Effect of onboard PM position on the magnetic force and stiffness performance of multi-seeded YBCO
Ozturk, K.; Kabaer, M.; Abdioglu, M.
Abstract In implemented studies before, although some advancements have been achieved in improving on the levitation or guidance force efficiency of YBCOs separately, both of these forces could not been enhanced simultaneously. In our study, we investigated levitation, guidance force and magnetic stiffness properties of multi-seeded YBCO bulk depending on different position of onboard PM in different CHs above a Halbach PMG to obtain larger vertical load capability, stability and relating stiffness values at the same time. The levitation, guidance force and relating stiffness measurements were carried out between multi-seeded YBCO and Halbach PMG depending on the onboard PM positions and cooling heights after the magnetic flux distributions modelling of Halbach PMG with onboard PMs. In this paper, it has clearly seen that the levitation force and the vertical magnetic stiffness values increase in optimal onboard PM position, with negligible lose in guidance force and lateral magnetic stiffness values. It is inferred from this study that reasonable position of the onboard PM according to PMG, the cooling conditions and compatibility of YBCO-PMG arrangement in point of magnetic flux distribution are key parameters for efficiency of the load, guidance force and relating magnetic stiffness of Maglev systems. The results obtained in this study have a potential on improvement of HTS Maglev system electromagnetic force capability.
