- MakaleYalnız künye2023Scopus SJRQ2Yttrium-substituted Co0.5Ni0.5YxFe2-xO4 ferrites as microwave absorbers by investigating structural, magnetic, dielectric, and absorption characteristics
Teber, Ahmet; Sarac, Mehmet F.
The effect of Yttrium Substitution on Co0.5Ni0.5YxFe2- xO4 (0.0 ≤ x ≤ 1.0) Ferrites as Microwave Absorbers was investigated to include structural, magnetic, dielectric and X-band absorption properties. The main objective of this work is to enhance microwave absorption properties of materials with interesting dielectric/magnetic behaviors by doping rare earth element of Yttrium based on transition metals. The hydrothermal method was used to create Yttrium (Y) substituted nanoparticles, and the effects of Y-ion substitution on the characteristics, structural, magnetic features were examined by XRD, FT-IR, SEM-EDS, TEM-SAED, and VSM, respectively. Electromagnetic properties were obtained from microwave scattering parameters measured via a metal-backed transmission line and Nicholson-Ross Weir techniques using a vector network analyzer (VNA) in conjunction with an X-band waveguide set. Return loss (RL) values of the samples were obtained from the electromagnetic constitutive parameters (permittivity and permeability). According to the XRD measurements, hexagonal crystal structure of ferrite and YFeO3 as secondary phase nanocrystal sizes are between 11 and 67 nm. Refined structural parameters using Rietveld analysis are carried out using the TOPAS refinement program. A good match was observed between the diffraction patterns obtained and calculated by Rietveld analysis. Moreover, the morphological analyses indicate that the relatively small spherical structures of Ni-Co ferrites particles can be seen to change from spherical to hexagonal-shaped with increasing yttrium concentration. The results of the FT-IR study show that the spinel structure has formed as predicted because the expected range of absorption bands is present. According to magnetic measurements, the coercivity (Hc) results show a modest increase in porosity as the Y-content rises. The results revealed that the minimum RL value and bandwidth vary significantly with the amount of Yttrium in the mixture, indicating that the obtained structures will be useful for broadband microwave applications.

- MakaleYalnız künye2022Scopus SJRQ2A study on the effects of nanostructure reinforcement on the failure load in adhesively bonded joints after the subjected to fully reversed fatigue load

Today, adhesively bonded joints are frequently used in the space and aviation industries. Joints used in these sectors are generally subject to dynamic loads due to environmental factors. This study experimentally and numerically investigated the static tensile loads of adhesively bonded joints after fully reversed (combination of tensile and compressive) fatigue loading where nanoadhesives–obtained by adding carbon nanostructures into aerospace grade structural adhesive–were used to bond the joints. Single lap joint specimens were produced using a nanocomposite adhesive obtained by adding 1 wt. % graphene, 1 wt. % carbon nanotubes-COOH and 1 wt. % fullerene C60 nanostructures to a DP460 structural adhesive. AA2024-T3 aluminum alloy and carbon fiber-reinforced composites (CFRCs) with a plain weave fabric (0/90°) were used as adherend materials. First, static tensile tests were applied to these joints to obtain their failure loads and then fully reversed sinusoidal fatigue tests were applied under a constant load amplitude, a frequency of 20 Hz and a load ratio of R = −1. Considering the failure loads obtained from the static tensile tests, 106 fully reversed fatigue loading cycles were applied–which was accepted as an infinite life–at 400 N, 800 N and 1200 N load levels. The static tensile failure loads and energy values absorbed of these joints were obtained and the change in the failure loads and energy values absorbed of the joints subjected to fatigue was investigated. The static failure loads of aluminum joints bonded with nanoadhesive and subjected to fully reversed fatigue loading increased by approximately 5% to 17%, depending on the nanostructure type added to the adhesive. Moreover, it was observed that there was an increase in loading of approximately 3% to 20% for the nanostructure reinforced joints obtained by using CFRCs with [0/90]6 stacking sequence.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2015Optical, Structural and Morphological Characterization of a Zn-Doped GaAs Semiconducting Thin Film Produced by Thermionic Vacuum Arc
Senay, Volkan; Özen, Soner; Pat, Suat; Korkmaz, Sadan
A 780 nm thick Zn-doped GaAs p-type semiconducting film was deposited onto a glass substrate under a high vacuum condition by means of the thermionic vacuum arc technique in a very short period of time (90 sec) using GaAs and Zn pellets as source materials. In order to characterize the produced film, the optical constants and absorbance of the film were measured using optical methods. By using the obtained optical absorbance data, the optical band gap was estimated from the Tauc plot based on the relation (alpha hv)(2) = B(hv - E-g). The refractive index value of the film was 3.73 at lambda = 632.8 nm. The band gap was estimated to be 1.35 eV. According to the results obtained from the FESEM and AFM related studies, the produced film displayed a granular surface morphology with a root mean square roughness of 17 nm. Contact angle measurements of several testing liquids were used to characterize the film in terms of wettability. It was found that the contact angle value was dependent on the liquid used. However, the film was hydrophilic as observed in contact angle measurements.
