Tosun, Murat; Cengiz, Mahir Murat; Erdoğan, Yaşar; Turan, Metin
In this study, seventeen floral honey samples collected from Türkiye’s Çoruh Valley were examined and a total of 59 parameters were analyzed to evaluate their quality attributes. Accordingly, hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF), diastase activity, fructose, glucose, sucrose, total fructose + glucose (F + G), the fructose/glucose ratio (F/G), color and δ13C isotope values were determined together with amino acid profiles, organic acid composition, mineral contents, and phytohormone profiles. All chemical and biological data were evaluated using multivariate statistical approaches, including Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Pearson correlation analysis and Hierarchical Clustering Analysis (HCA), to characterize similarities and differences among the samples. The analytical results demonstrated that honeys from this region comply with established quality standards and exhibit natural purity, balanced chemical composition, and favorable nutritional properties. The detection of diverse phytohormone types and concentrations across the samples, as revealed by the analyses, indicates a rich biochemical signature originating from plant sources. This finding also highlights the functional properties, biological value, and nutritional significance of these honeys. Overall, the results confirm that the floral honeys obtained from Türkiye’s Çoruh Valley are high-quality products in terms of both chemical and biological properties.

Cengiz, Mahir Murat; Erdoğan, Yaşar
In this study, it was investigated the stinging, robing and swarming tendencies of Buckfast, Carniolan, Caucasian and Erzurum honeybee genotypes in Eastern Anatolian conditions. In the 2015 production period, a total of 40 colonies,10 from each of Buckfast, Carniolan, Caucasian and Erzurum genotypes were used in the study. Caucasian genotype was the most gentle with 6.22±0.65 pcs/colony average number of stings, while Erzurum genotype was the most aggressive with 12.12±1.08 pcs/colony average number of stings. As a result of analysis of variance applied to average numbers of stings genotypes, the difference between the genotypes was found to be very significant in terms of tendency to stinging. In terms of tendency to robing, the Buckfast genotype ranked first with 1.57±0.17 pcs, while the Carniolan genotype had the lowest trend of robing with a value of 0.62±0.16 pcs. In terms of swarming tendency, the difference between the genotypes was statistically significant.

In this study, wintering ability and some physiological properties of Buckfast, Carniolan, Caucasian and Erzurum honeybee genotypes were investigated in Eastern Anatolian conditions. During the wintering season of 2014, a total of 48 colonies, 12 from each of Buckfast, Carniolan, Caucasian and Erzurum honey bee genotypes, were taken from the equilibrated colonies of Langstroth type wooden hives for wintering. In the 2015 production period, a total of 43 colonies,11 from each of Buckfast, Carniolan, Erzurum genotypes and 10 from Caucasian genotype were used in the study. In the production season, the average number of combs covered with bees in genotype groups were found as 11.72±0.63, 12.17±0.62, 9.52±0.51 and 10.72±0.55 per colony, and the average brood areas were found as 2713.7±237.9, 2797.6±238.3, 2036.5±166.4, 2364.3±197.2 cm2/colony (19.04.2015-4.10.2015). The difference between the groups was found statistically significant (P<0.01) in terms of number of combs covered with bees and brood areas. Averarage honey yields were determined as 28.08±2.37, 29.94±2.17, 19.28±2.13 and 23.36±2.15 kg/colony, respectively. The difference between groups in honey yield was found statistically significant (P<0.05).

- MakaleYalnız künye2016Sustainability Organic Agriculture and Livestock Production with Respect to European Union in Eastern Anatolia and East Black Sea Regions
Altun, Hilal Ürüşan; Haşimoğlu, Sümer; Aksakal, Vecihi; Cengiz, Mahir Murat; Erdoğan, Yaşar; Bayram, Bahri; Dellal, Gürsel
The majority of farm households in Turkey and especially the Eastern Anatoliaare still based on low-input semi subsistence agriculture and livestock production. Despite a slow decline in recent years, agriculture and livestock production remains a major employer in Turkey and it is a significant contributor to the country's gross domestic product, GDP. Whist Turkey is one of the EU candidate countries, is self sufficient in food production and Turkish agriculture is poorly structured inefficient, with farming in the Eastern Anatoliabeingmainlysubsistencefarming. Yet,thesetraditionalruralstructures combined with poor access to low level of education and low level of off-farm unemployment problem makes the situation more complicated and unsustainable. The best way to promote sustainability, better and higher production of Eastern Anatolian and rural Turkey is to invest in the local people, villages through improved, continuing and effective agricultural and livestock programs in particular.Investment in human capital especiallyintheruralareasleadstomoreemploymentopportunitiesthrough entrepreneurship and innovation in organic agriculture and livestock production. A holistic approach to developing and improving supply chains could unlock the potential forsophisticated,state-of-the-artorganicagricultureandlivestockproducersand businesses in the region to become EU and global players. Eastern Anatolian livestock producers and the farmers have the ambitions to take part in future progress because the region is naturally organic not by design but default. It is for sure that present potential of the region has not been fully determined and utilized. EU has greatly benefited from previous enlargements economically, politically and socially. When European Union (EU) and Turkish Government relations considered and accession of Turkey to EU would be the logical consequence of the previous accessions. The screening on chapter 11 (Agriculture and rural development) is one of the important criteria and Turkey is working on to meet these benchmarks.
