Objective: With the widespread adoption of e-learning during the COVID-19 pandemic and advances in internet technology, the need for a validated tool to assess student satisfaction has become increasingly important. This study aimed to examine the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the e-Learning Satisfaction Scale (e-LSS). Methods: This cross-sectional, methodological study was conducted with 537 students enrolled in health sciences programs at Erzurum Atatürk University between November 2022 and February 2023. In this study, a non-probability sampling method was used by selecting units that met specific criteria. Content validity was evaluated by expert review of the scale items. Construct validity was assessed through exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Reliability and stability of the scale were tested using the equivalent (parallel) forms method. Results: EFA results showed a Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin value of 0.94 and a significant Bartlett’s test result (χ² = 126.773, p<.001), indicating sample adequacy. Factor loadings ranged from .825 to .354 for the “Content” subscale, .859 to .571 for “Interface,” and .802 to .654 for “Communication.” CFA demonstrated acceptable model fit indices: χ²/df = 4.332, TLI = .915, RMSEA = .079, SRMR = .0481, AGFI = .857, GFI = .896, IFI = .931, and CFI = .930. The final scale consisted of 17 items across 3 subscales. Cronbach’s alpha values were 0.86, 0.86, and 0.83 for the subscales, and 0.93 for the overall scale. Conclusion: The scale was found to be a valid and reliable tool for measuring e-learning.

Aggön, Eser; Agirbas, Ozturk; Alp, Hamit Hakan; Uçan, Izzet; Gürsoy, Recep; Hackney, Anthony C.

Background: The aim of this study was to determine hormonal responses to acute and chronic exposure to static and dynamic strength training programs using resistance bands in boxers. Material and methods: 19 male national boxers participated in the study. Boxers were instructed to perform strength exercises with resistance bands for 3 days a week for 8 weeks involving either dynamic (n=10) or static (n=9) resistance exercises. Blood samples were taken before exercise, immediately after the initial exercise session, and 8 weeks later following the last exercise session. Cortisol, growth hormone, adrenocorticotropic hormone adrenaline and noradrenaline levels were measured. Statistical analyses involved non-parametric analysis with an alpha level of .05. Results: Dynamic strength exercises were effective stimuli to growth hormone, adrenaline and noradrenaline, while static strength exercises provoked cortisol, growth hormone, adrenaline and noradrenaline responses both initially after exercise and after 8 weeks of chronic training. Neither dynamic nor static strength exercises were effective in prompting adrenocorticotropic changes after an exercise session or after 8 weeks of training. Conclusions: We showed that dynamic and static strength exercise protocols using resistance bands both could provoke acute and chronic hormonal responses in boxers similar to more traditional modes of such exercise.

Investigation of Speech Anxiety Levels of Physical Education and Sports Department Students in Terms of Different Variables

    Ucan, Izzet; Ozan, Murat

The aim of this study is to determine the speech anxiety levels of physical education and sports department students and to examine them in terms of different variables. The research was carried out with 202 students (66 female and 136 male) studying in different departments of Erzurum Ataturk University Faculty of Sports Sciences in 2108/2019 academic year. The data related to the study were collected by Speech Anxiety Scale developed by Yaman and Sofu (2013) and the Demographic Information Form determined by the researchers. Frequency distribution was used to determine the students' demographic characteristics, Independent Samples T-test was used to examine the differentiation between two independent variables and speech anxiety and One-Way ANOVA analysis was used to examine the differentiation between more than two variables and speech anxiety. All these tests were analyzed in SPSS 21 package program and the significance level was accepted as p <0.05. As a result of the research, it was determined that there was no significant difference between the students' demographic characteristics, sporting activities and speech anxiety levels. Although there was no significant difference, it was also observed that the male students' total score of speech anxiety was lower than that of female students numerically. It was observed that, regarding the students' family structure variable, those who had a fragmented family, who had a monthly personal income level of over 1501 TL, who studied in the department of management, did sports activities and performed both sports as regards their sports activity type, had numerically a low level of speaking anxiety when compared to other variable groups. In the light of these results, it is suggested that students should be encouraged to participate in sports activities and to engage in different social activities in order to reduce their speech anxiety levels. Apart from this study, it is recommended to investigate using different variables and to determine the variables that may have a positive or negative effect on speech anxiety.

The effect of extreme sports on oxidative stress

Aggon, Eser; Agirbas, Ozturk; Ucan, Izzet; Hackney, Anthony C.

Background & Study Aim: Despite the high risk of extreme sports, participation rates have increased in the last years. Rafting and paragliding are two of the most popular extreme sports. The aim of this study was the effect of rafting and paragliding exercises in males on oxidative stress situation and antioxidant status. Material & Methods: Seventeen male rafters and ten male paragliders voluntarily participated in the study. The inclusion criteria were: non-smoker, no known history of cardiovascular disease, body mass index (BMI) < 30 kg/m2, and no intake of medications or antioxidant supplements. Blood samples were taken at rafting and paragliding practices' a day before and after the sporting activities. The data were statistically analysed with Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney U tests. Results: Rafting activity increased the values of the total antioxidant situation (TAS), paragliding exercises decreased the level of TAS while paragliding increased the level of total oxidative stress (TOS). Differences existed between the group only before activities in TAS values. Conclusions: The specific property of the rafting workout is to stimulate of participants to cope with oxidative stress by activating the antioxidant status. In turn paragliding exercises increase oxidative stress due to the danger element in the sport and perhaps requiring the participants stay at a high altitude, in some situations, during its practice.
