İncele - MakaleYalnız künye2019A study on the religious traditional communal life style of hutterites that have radical wings of the reform age
Keleş, Hatice
Anabaptists are a movement that constitutes the radical wing of the 16th century reform era. Three comunity has emerged from Anabaptists which are the Hutterites, the Mennonites and the Swiss Brothers. In defending adult baptism, the Anabaptists are separated from the Catholic, Protestant and Orthodox, and are opposed to their leadership in the Christian world. In general, the beliefs of all Anabaptists are almost the same. But there is an important belief that distinguishes Hutterites from other Anabaptists. It is the “community of goods” that is, the common sharing of goods. With these beliefs, the Hutterites believed that the communal life system, that is, the common sharing of goods, was the real life system of Christianity. Thus, they established colonies. The hutterites have attracted attention with their standing for more than 450 years. The hutterites attributed their long standing to the communal life system. Because according to the communal life system, they have trained all members from a young age . In this study, it is aimed to give information about how Hutterites, as a Anabaptist community, implement a system in the colonial life about marriage, family and upbringing. Summary The origin of the hutterites is based on the Anabaptist movement that emerged in Switzerland under the influence of the Protestant Reform in the 16th century. Anabaptists generally have the same beliefs. However, among the Anabaptists, there are different practices. There are three Anabaptist groups that emerged in the 16th century. These groups are Hutterites, Mennonites and Swiss Brothers-Anabaptists. Then the Amish community was formed from the Mennonites. The most important common features of the Anabaptist groups are their strong opposition to the basic status of the Roman Catholic Church and Protestant churches. The distinguishing feature of the anabaptists is their adoption of adult-believer baptism, Jesus’ last supper, non-resistance - peace and simplicity. However, the difference between the Hutterites and the Mennonites and the Amishes is that they accept the common understanding of property and the social lifestyle. In addition, Hutterites, unlike Amish, use technology and follow technological developments. One of the most important aspects of Mennonites and Amishes is that they place colony life instead of nuclear family structure. The hutterites emerged in Moravia, now the Czech Republic. Although Hutterite was accepted Jacob Hutter as the founder of their society, there was a community that had ideas of Hutterites before him. In fact, Hutter organized this community. Hutter, seen as a charismatic and prophetic leader, started the present Hutterit communal system in 1533. The hutterites have attracted much attention as a communal group rather than being an Anabaptist movement. In 1528, they applied their first communal life style, the common sharing of goods. The purpose of these practices is to establish the colony of heaven on earth. According to them, since there will be a colonial life style in heaven, God has ordered all Christians to live colonially in the world. They live in isolation. It is a community with different culture, religious understanding and purpose. The adoption of a communal lifestyle by the Hutterites was reflected in their marriage, family and child rearing. Marriage in hutterites is a union in which both people agree to look at each other. In this association, the second person accepted to obey the first person. The couple now refers to one person, not two. This is a decision made according to God’s will and order. It is not in line with the choices or wishes of individuals. The hutterites have strictly applied monogamous marriage and gender rituals. Deciding on hutterite marriages occurs in several ways. Regardless of the type ofmarriage, marriage is required with the permission of family, preachers and colonial leaders. In particular, a marriage that cannot be approved by colonial leaders cannot take place. Young men are given the right to choose the girls they want to marry. However, girls do not have the right to choose as much as boys. The hutterites do not marry from their own colonies, but are also opposed to the first cousin marriage. Second and third cousin marriages are common, and in most colonies, fourth cousin marriages are the most appropriate. Since the family for the hutterites is accepted as a sub-part of the Bruderhof, the Brotherhood, all major political decisions are determined by the votes of the members. However, the right to vote belongs only to the man who is accepted as the head of the family. The hutterites live in apartments that they have long built. There are several apartments and a family resides in each apartment. However, the dining room and living room are shared and families living in the apartment eat together in the dining room and spend time together in the living room. Since the duty o
