- Derleme MakaleYalnız künye2021Investigation of the Effect of Inoculant and Casting Temperature on Fluidity Properties in the Production of Spheroidal Graphite Cast Iron
Çolak, Murat; Kaya, Sinan
Working with liquid metal makes the casting method very advantageous, but also presents some difficulties. One of the common challenges in the casting process is that the liquid metal may not fill the mold cavity completely. This is mainly due to the contact of the liquid metal with the mold surface in the mold cavity, the high heat transfer coefficient of the mold material, and the undercooling and solidification of the liquid metal during liquid movements. For this reason, the fluidity of the liquid metal is important for robust casting production. The fluidity is affected by many factors such as mold properties, casting temperature, and alloying elements. In this study, it is aimed to investigate the fluidity characteristics of GGG60 alloy. For this purpose, the effects of casting temperature, different inoculants, and different inoculant quantities were used in the new mold design, which has different cross-sectional thicknesses. The distance of the alloy in the cavities was also compared with FlowCast Casting simulation software.

- MakaleYalnız künye2022Optimization of Asymmetric Bioreduction Conditions of 2-methyl-1-phenylpropan-1-one by Lactobacillus fermentum BY35 Using I-Optimal Design-Based Model
Aksuoğlu, Selmani; Özdemir, Akın; Serencam, Hüseyin; Dertli, Enes; Şahin, Engin
The bioreduction of prochiral ketones offers efficient access to chiral secondary alcohols, which are potentially beneficial precursors for producing many biologically active compounds and natural products. This bioreduction process can be affected by different parameters when whole-cell of biocatalysts such as Lactic Acid Bacteria strains are applied. In this context, this paper proposed an I-optimal design-based model to optimize culture parameters such as temperature, pH, incubation period, and agitation speed for asymmetric bioreduction of 2-methyl-1-phenylpropan-1-one (1) with Lactobacillus fermentum BY35 as a biocatalyst while achieving the highest conversion rate (cr) and enantiomeric excess (ee). The optimum settings of the four culture parameters and the cr and ee values were found using the proposed optimization model as follows: pH = 6.5, temperature = 25 °C, incubation period = 38.5 h, agitation speed = 200 rpm, the ee value = 98.78%, and the cr value = 98.92%. After the validation of the process, the cr and ee values were found to be > 99% and > 99%, respectively, while using the optimum operating conditions from the optimization model. Thus, the results of the optimization model are consistent with the results of the validation experiment. It is also noted that this paper is the first to optimize culture parameters using the proposed I-optimal design-based model for an asymmetric reduction.

- MakaleYalnız künye2021Development of a Fuzzy Exponentially Weighted Moving Average Control Chart with an α-level Cut for Monitoring a Production Process
Kaplan Göztok, Kader; Uçurum, Metin; Özdemir, Akın
Statistical quality control is a useful approach that applies to statistical techniques for monitoring a production system. These charts are effective to monitor the process under certain conditions. On the other hand, the fuzzy set theory is an appropriate tool to deal with an uncertain situation. This paper is fourfold. First of all, triangular fuzzy numbers with an α-level cut technique are used for each sample. The α-level cut technique is sensitive to satisfy the process requirement. Second, a fuzzy exponentially weighted moving average (FEWMA) control chart is proposed with the α-level cut technique. The proposed FEWMA detects small shifts under uncertain situations while using a unity technique for samples. Third, the fuzzy target-focused process capability index (FCpm) index is proposed to measure the fuzzy process performance. Then, a case study is presented to monitor a pumice block plant using the FEWMA control chart with the α-level cut and measure the process performance with the FCpm index. Comparative studies are also presented. By using the proposed FEWMA control chart with the α-level cut, the accuracy and the flexibility of control specification limits are reported for the case study.

- MakaleYalnız künye2022Improvement of mechanical and transport properties of reactive powder concrete using graphene nanoplatelet and waste glass aggregate
Arslan, S.; Öksüzer, N.; Gökçe, H.S.
In this study, the use of graphene nanoplatelet (GNP) and waste glass aggregate (WGA) was investigated to improve the mechanical and transport properties of reactive powder concrete (RPC), which is an ultra-high strength concrete type. The co-addition of 0.14% GNP and 30% WGA resulted in a significant increase in the compressive strength of RPC from 192.9 to 258.9 MPa and flexural strength from 16.2 to 38.7 MPa. In the study, the most significant improvement (138.6%) was obtained for the flexural strength values of RPC. Considering the strength aspects, the relevant amounts of GNP and WGA enable production of RPC ensuring a conducted electrical charge of less than 100 Coulombs; that is, with negligible chloride ion permeability. Accordingly, the highest improvement (59.8%) after flexural strength was found for the resistance of the specimens against chloride ion penetrability. In conclusion, the findings of this study show that eco-efficient production of RPC with superior mechanical and durability characteristics can be achieved using GNP and WGA, with lower cement consumption per unit value of these studied characteristics, reaching 59%.

The design and synthesis of hydrazone derivatives are increasing in popularity day by day due to the significant biological activities of this scaffold. In the present study, twelve novel isonicotinic hydrazide-hydrazone analogues were synthesized by the condensation reaction of isonicotinic hydrazide with benzaldehyde possessing sulfonate moiety. The structures of the novel compounds have been characterized in detail using spectroscopic techniques. All compounds have shown inhibitory effects against the AChE enzyme at rates ranging from 21.00 to 59.48%. Among them, compound 5 has exhibited the best inhibitory effect of 59.48% against AChE at a concentration of 0.1 mM. Furthermore, to determine how effective the novel compounds are as antioxidants, FRAP and DPPH studies were also carried out. FRAP values in compounds 1–12 were found to range from 26.989–3415.556 µmol FeSO4.7H2O/mg. They also displayed moderate antioxidant potential in the range of SC50=0.03–87.32 mg/mL compared with the control Trolox (SC50 =0.004) in DPPH radical scavenging activities. It was seen that the AChE inhibition percentages of the compounds were in the range of 23.04–58.10% at 0.1 mM concentration. This is the first research on the synthesis, antioxidant and enzyme inhibition properties of these compounds.
